The best restaurants in Eastern Rother Rother South East

Disappointing evening - we were looking forward to our night out at the Owl as it had been recommended. We asked whether we could bring our 2 teenage kids and were reassured that this was fine - pub was not busy but we were sat in a room at the back with 2 other families with small children … there was no music on (unlike the rest of the pub) so the room lacked atmosphere and the other children were noisy - it was like sitting in a nursery and like second class citizens. Staff didn’t even come in very often so didn’t check we had drinks when we’d finished them or that food was ok. Shame as it’s expensive and the food was good but we stayed for one course and left to get dessert and a second drink elsewhere as it wasn’t relaxing / enjoyable. When you have older kids and have ‘done’ that noisy small children stage it’s disappointing to be separated into a room specifically for small children. Either make it no children / higher age limit / have areas for older and younger kids. As we left we did see a child (younger than mine) in the bar area so I’m not sure why we were seated in the back room- I think the landlady could have worked out we may not have enjoyed the back room when she seated us.

A bit hidden behind hedges, easy to miss. Parking is gravel, but firm-ish. Motorcycles could use a foot or pad for side-stand. Friendly staff and comfortable atmosphere. Food good, and prices are acceptable. Tea & coffee lovely. All round a nice dropin Cafe.

Only passed by for a drink and some snack. Lovely staff. Good grub and nice drinks

Great night out for a 60th drink

We had planned to walk in the neighbouring nature reserve and use their cafe but it was heaving due to half term. We decided to drive to Winchelsea beach and access the reserve from there. So we stopped for lunch here instead. It was busy and it didn’t have picture windows/ view but it had a better menu. There was more choice at reasonable prices. The staff were welcoming and thanked us for our custom. From now on this will be our cafe of choice when walking in the reserve.

Incredibly dissapointing. The menu promises flavours of Greece, however does not deliver on this promise. £10 buys you 3 small tiger prawns. The pita wasnt warm or toasted just straight out of the packet, the halloumi was undercooked and rubbery. The Greek salad lacked oregano, and just had 2 olives in it! Moving onto the drinks, £16 buys you 1 pint and 1 aperol, worst still, it costs £2.90 for HALF a lemonade (from a soda gun, not even bottled!)

We went for a takeaway. Popped in earlier to enquire whether or not they were able to cook some food that was dairy free for our son. Normally Indian restaurants can’t or won’t do this.at this Indian restaurant they immediately helped us so we came for a takeaway and it was excellent. My boy had his first curry for a long time and he really enjoyed it. Thank you to all the team at the Indian restaurant. Swung in here for a couple of large portions of chips this afternoon after a rather blustery walk on the beach! The place was deserted, but I can imagine it gets much busier! Price was £4.90 for a large chips which is probably about right for the location, fish meals were £10-£15 which again is probably about right. Chips were pretty nice, on the thinner side but very tasty, not too greasy. You could do your own salt and vinegar - which is a massive plus for us! The chip shop is attached to a cafe next door, which we were allowed to sit in - doubt this is the case in the summer but was nice for now! Overall a lovely experience, would recommend!

I’m relieved to see this establishment has closed its doors. My experience there was one of the worst I've ever encountered, especially considering I live in the area and never expected to face such blatant racism in my own community. The owners, Jimmy and Carol, were never friendly right from the start, and it's astonishing that they managed to operate this restaurant for so long. I had often walked past it without giving it much thought, but this time I was with a few friends and thought we would give it a try. Unfortunately, the way we were treated was nothing short of appalling. We stood in the middle of the dining area for at least 15 minutes without even a greeting. It’s hard to believe they could miss us, as there were four of us waiting. The waitstaff glanced at us several times but never made the effort to approach. I can’t help but wonder if our Asian descent played a role in their indifference. Despite the available seating, we chose to wait out of respect. I sincerely hope they never reopen a restaurant. If they do, I hope they learn a valuable lesson in customer service.

Just had a sit down meal in here and was most pleasantly surprised how good it was ! £42 for 2 people , both of us had a starter and main plus a beer each ! The dum Phukt main dish is DIVINE !! I ate that with Kashmiri rice and it was the nicest curry I’ve had in a long time ! It was quiet for sit down meals but orders came in regularly over the phone I would highly recommend a visit to this curry house if you are in the area

To be honest I had no real idea of what The Bell would be like when I booked it. The location was convenient for a function we were attending elsewhere. What a revelation, this place is amazing. You have to consider that the "project " is ongoing, but this doesn't impact on anything. The standards are great. Service, welcome and the whole experience was amazing. While entering the bedroom, the standard of which it had been decorated and furnished to was just way above what you could have expected. Only down side was that we were only staying the one night.

Such a splendid place for a great lunch... we were so impressed that we went on two consecutive days! The first lunch was a stunningly good steak and ale pie. Lovely service and lovely food...and the temptation was there to return for a Sunday roast.... Romney lamb a great vegetable selection and apple crumble for dessert. Very caring service and highly recommended. Th establishment also houses a rather splendid butchers shop and an excellent delicatessen, both of which we've sampled and would highly recommend. Wonderful

Just had the most amazing flat white coffee, sausage in a bap and real black forest gateaux, beautiful inside and out with reasonable prices for exceptional food and service
