Absolutely appalling experience. Arrived with my family for a quiet drink at 9pm, only to be turned away because there were “more than 5 of us.” No explanation, no flexibility — just hostility. Instead of handling it politely, the miserable owner locked the door behind us with other customers still inside. It felt like a passive-aggressive power move rather than a genuine policy enforcement. Never have I been treated with such unwelcoming behaviour from a supposed public house. Avoid if you value basic hospitality and respect.

Wow, just wow. Probably the best pub Sunday roast I’ve ever had. The most amazing warm welcome, fabulous service and every element of the food was amazing! Locally sourced, high quality produce prepared and served to the highest standard. I highly recommend a visit.

Really appreciated the several vegan options on the menu. I opted for the vegan fish and chips which was delicious, and it was good to be offered a dessert that wasn’t the usual default fruit sorbet (apple crumble with vegan ice cream). There are plenty of options for meat eaters too. Nice atmosphere and dog friendly. Would happily go back.

Fantastic dinner here after recommendation to go. Exquisite food cooked beautifully. Locally sourced. Incredible oysters, sea bream, belly pork. Will definitely come again. Duesnt look much from the outside but worth the trip for the restaurant chef and menu.

My husband said the oysters were amazing and my vegetarian Sunday roast was one of the nicest I have had, all really well presented and tasty. Very dog friendly and our dog was brought water and treats straight away. The chap who served us was really friendly, as was the chef.

We just had lunch at the owl. Staff were very friendly and they accommodated our little 4month puppy by reserving us their private small room. We ordered their sunday roast (pork and chicken) - very big portion. Although it simply had boiled/steamed veggies. Happy with the service, quick and efficient. It gets quite busy so make sure to book early on.

Went to the owl today to have food and watch the grand national with my boyfriend, service was lovely, pub was beautiful and food was absolutely amazing, the sweet chilli pork was 10/10 I ordered a second portion it honestly was Cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back

The Owl is a pretentious disaster with its ridiculous ‘no babies’ policy. Families beware: they’d rather you starve than let your kid coo. Loud drunks? Fine. A baby? Unacceptable. Hypocritical, soulless, and awful. Zero stars.

Me and my friends came down for dinner yesterday and it was amazing. The food! The service! The drinks! We couldn’t fault it. We are in Camber for the weekend and all agreed we would make the trip back from London just for dinner here!

Best ever food hadn't had something quote like it in ages had pork belly bites and fries top notch my brother had muscles fries and olive bread he said was lush and my other family had seabreem apparently was astonishing and finally grandad had feathered beef with mash which apparently was also top notch. WOULD RECOMEND

We've just had an amazing stay at The Owl Inn. Every member of staff was really warm, welcoming and friendly. They couldn't have done more to make our Valentine's Day really special! The atmosphere in the bar was perfectly set up, they clearly put some thought into the evening. Food was incredible, little arancini to start was a lovely touch. Really fresh fish and happy to talk about their local beers. Thank you for a really memorable stay. We'll be back.

Had a meal here last month and the food was so lovely and you can tell it’s all freshly made to a high standard. The service was quick and efficient and the staff were all very welcoming. Would definitely go back again.

No fun allowed. Just wanted drinks and bar snacks in an almost empty pub (we actually wanted to sit in the empty pub garden) and was turned away as no one under 14 allowed in

There is no way this is a 5-star restaurant as the reviews suggest. I had a mixed roast (which was practically all fat) for £29. I've had far better mixed roasts for £20 at better quality restaurants. They didn’t ask how we’d like the roast beef cooked or offer any sauces, and the gravy was very limited. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Wow, lovely gastropub. Our second night in Camber and the food was so much better than in a hotel 5mins away (begins with a G). We got such a warm welcome from Peter and great service all evening. The food... amazing. Prawns and chorizo, pork belly with sticky sauce, and scallops in a pureed curry sauce. All were very good and very good value. I just wish The Owl was close to home as we'd be weekly visitors... (I know some reviews take issue with the no kids rule. But we rather enjoyed the adult only patrons rule. And yes, we have children and grandchildren, but that doesn't mean it isn't nice, sometimes, not to have the little ones around)

Out of season, absolutely dead and wouldn’t allow us to have lunch because we were accompanied by a sleeping 1 year old! No under 5s in the family area, and no under 16s elsewhere. Understand it in peak season, but ridiculous to turn down best part of £100 when you’ve got no other customers.

Stopped in for a drink with the dog after a walk on the beach. It was quiet but staff and, a group who seemed like the regulars, were friendly and welcoming. We booked a table for dinner the next evening. Dinner was delicious. We both had fish main courses and a side of veggies and everything was fantastic. Great range of drinks and the staff made us feel so welcome. We brought our dog and they had recorded that on the booking and thought about where to sit us. A must visit if you're in Camber.

The food was amazing! We had a great experience from the moment we walked in. The staff were warm and welcoming. Our evening was made even better knowing that children were not permitted - this made the overall atmosphere that much more enjoyable.

Unbelievable dogs under the age of 5 okay in restaurant but not children. However I will add the two times I have dined there (once with a dog) it has been excellent.

Were turned away because we had a four-week old baby in a pram, didn’t even allow us to sit on the benches out the front and have a drink, despite it being near empty. Supposedly they can’t accommodate prams and don’t have baby-change facilities (which we didn’t need). Despicable treatment of parents.

Excellent food! Really fresh seafood - everyone enjoyed their food in a party of 10 people. Great service from a great genuine pub.

Walked by with our sleeping 4 month old baby in a pram. Wanted to sit outside on a bench and have a quick cup of tea and were turned away because of our baby, despite the place being almost empty. Not very friendly. Had the same experience at the Gallivant down the road, left us with a bad impression.

We absolutely loved our meal! Family of 6 with two well behaved dogs - the service was brilliant, the food yummy and the welcome warm and friendly. We were so lucky to spend an evening here. Thank you!

Stumbled across The Owl last Monday whilst looking for somewhere to sit with our boxer dog. Walked in and was immediately made to feel welcome, and was offered an option of two side areas for us to sit with the dog. Ended up going outside shortly afterwards as the weather had brightened up so we were probably a bit of a pain. We hadn't planned to eat, but the menu looked amazing so we went for it. Was lovely and chilled in the front garden area. Oysters. Amazing. Catch of the day (haddock). Amazing. Mussels. Amazing. Rhubarb crumble. Utterly amazing! So pleased we popped by and can't thank our server enough for bringing everything all the way round the front each time to serve and clear away. Our boxer girl is very nervous so having a little calm area made the visit so much easier. We will see you again in the near future, keep up the good work all ❤️

Only used the pub and it was great with great fish n chips

I am in the fortunate position of having frequented The Owl on a number of occasions and I have never been disappointed. As a party of six we dined in The Owl recently and had an array of dishes from the menu, starters and main courses. The service was outstanding and the food was fabulous. I would 100% recommend anyone visiting Camber Sands to have a meal and drinks in The Owl. I promise you it won't disappoint.

The Owl was a perfect find for us, as we are staying just by the beach in an airbnb and wanted a nice lunch to celebrate an event as a family but were told by the Gallivant which we're staying next to that they would not accommodate children under 16. Thankfully the Owl were happy to take us and the ladies there provided amazing and flexible service. They were happy to accommodate all our requests and changing minds but also made really helpful pro-active suggestions which is just an indication of their kind service. It's a beach-side pub/bar vibe with lovely tables outside in the sunshine and plenty of space indoors but don't expect white linen tablecloths. Having said that, the service is well up there just because they are so kind and caring. Also, importantly, the food is brilliant, with great specials and locally-sourced food from land & sea. I wouldn't hesitate to go back next time we're in town.

It was a warm but very cloudy July day in Camber when we popped into The Owl for lunch so the resort and the pub were exceptionally quiet. We made up our own Meze dishes from the starter menu. Food was well presented and and fresh and good. Staff were happy and efficient. Would recommend.

A great first dining visit to The Owl and what a great pub it is. Attentive, friendly, proffesional owners and staff. This pub has a really nice vibe and attention to each guests individual situation is catered for. Biscuits, water and a quiet area was offered to us with our dogs, It is apparent how much the owners care about your experience as a diner. A well thought out tasty menu with locally sourced produce great choice of beverages. 👏👌

Cannot share my dining experience as we were not allowed in due to being with an infant. So apparently they are pet friendly but not children friendly, what?? Very disappointed by this very strange encounter but would be nice and fair towards anyone advertising this as well! There is nowhere saying that children are not welcome to this establishment.. but happy that we were not allowed in as we read the reviews after and the food is not as great as the very high prices are!

Absolutely perfect Sunday roast at the Owl last weekend. Super friendly welcome and service, great restaurant and bar areas with feel-good music (not overbearing), noticed the cleanliness too, inventive starters and meal prepared with care, amazing chocolate cheesecake, expertly-served local ales. Will have to come back for the cocktail menu, esp. the "Bloody Double Mary"!

Everything was lovely. Staff were very pleasant and nice, food was delicious. Would absolutely revisit and definitely recommend it. 10/10

Sea food pasta was cold I think cooked from frozen not nice at all. The fish and chips were ok, someone in our group also ordered a burger and it was supposed to be chargriled and it came out like charcoal the manager the boss wasn't very customer friendly, at £27.00 to £42.00 pounds for a dish u would think he would take more pride in his food ,a glorified fish and chip shop don't expect more with hard chairs and sticky tables ... be yr own judge.

Strolling though Camber and thought we’d sit outside for a drink, interrogated at the bar as to who we were sat with, another member of staff insisted that we had a pram, refused to serve us. Not even busy, not even warm, and people inside looked miserable. Would highly recommend Rye Bar & Grill next door, staff amazing, food great, all round brilliant vibe.

Friendly with great beers, other drinks and good food and snacks. Regularly updated range of ales. Longmans Sussex bitter is a favourite . it's worth a visit for food or drinks.

We had a great dinner at The Owl last Friday - scallops, sides of vegetables and rhubarb crumble - all excellent and good value. Our waitress was super friendly and so helpful. Definitely recommend this pub for food, drinks and staff!

Went to The Owl for a lunch. The location is good, right next to the beach. The staff are welcoming and friendly. The place is also dog friendly. Everything was fine except the food I had. I ordered Grilled pork chop and it came pan fry, which was made me quite disappointed as pan fry pork is disgusting. All the rest is nice. My partner ordered Classic Moules Mariniere and it was delicious and large portion.

Delicious scallops on the normal menu as well as specials for Rye Scallop Week and just the best Sunday roast for miles. Love the new sharing board where you have a selection of the meats and plenty of veg.

Delicious dinner. Great staff and very welcoming to dogs. Will be coming back.

Turned up unannounced on one of the busiest days of the year and the team found us a table, food was amazing and service good even finding some food for our dog. Will definitely be returning

Good food - slightly on the pricey side but good nevertheless. Went here off season so nice and quiet. Superb customer service from the staff and manager. Glad we came here (recommended by many).

Every few months I return to this page to read the negative reviews from entitled parents. I wish more restaurants had the same "no small children" policy. There are abundant other places for children to run around annoying fellow diners, making a mess while their parents ignore it and let the poor staff deal with the chaos. Maybe try Pizza Express. Owner dude should be nicer though. Hugs 💕

Went in on a Friday night and thought the service and drinks were fantastic. There was a guy behind the bar with black hair who was super helpful. However I went in on the Saturday and was pretty disappointed with the food. For the price I was expecting big things but the scallops I got were burnt and bland. The sauce for the mussels was also super bland and flavourless. We got some roasted veg which was supposed to be glazed with honey but was not and simply sat in oil the whole time. So drinks were nice but food wasnt that great.

3 times a year we stay in Camber. The Owl is consistently good service and quality food. It's quite expensive for the area, but don't mind paying for quality. In the summer months, or more than 4 anytime, I would recommend booking in advance. Will return next year.

Visited for Sunday lunch today. We had a sharing plate with roast pork and beef. One of the best roasts we have had. Would definitely recommend.

We came to the Owl for lunch today after a long wet walk in Camber Sands. The staff were very friendly and found us a nice table to sit at. They were very accommodating of our dog and made a big fuss of her as well as bringing her a bowl of water an treats. The food was excellent, very generous portions and everything was absolutely delicious, especially the mussels. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting to go there for a drink and some really tasty food. Thanks again We didn't go to the hotel so can't comment on that.

Very helpful employees brilliant food and very relaxing

We had an amazing dinner at the Owl, some of the best food we’ve had in a while. We had 3 courses and cannot fault the food at all. The staff were super friendly and provided great service, they made us feel so welcome. Initially we just went for a drink one evening, but ended up booking for dinner the following day because the staff and vibe was so friendly and inviting!! It’s also dog friendly which is a plus (he loved the steak!). Contrary to many of the negative reviews, as a group of adults we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere due to the lack of children running around.

Wir waren in dem Restaurant essen. Der Burger war sehr gut und die Pommes knusprig. Die Karte hat auch vegetarische Gerichte. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich. Sind sehr tierlieb. Das Restaurant liegt direkt vor den Dünen.

Lovely atmosphere, and good beer

We visited the owl on Saturday with our two miniature dachshunds and they made us feel so welcome and the vegan fish and chips were amazing definitely recommend anyone to go here.

Absolutely tasty food and generous portions. Maybe could have ordered a few less delicious because was so full in the end, but then would have missed out on the ones we did not order. Service was brilliant, and a walk along the dunes after the meal was lovely. I highly recommend the pub.

These guys are excellent at what they do. The service and quality is amazing. We are big foodies from London. And for 2 nights in a row we were so impressed by the menu, the quality, and the portions. You guys deserve to do so well. Thanks for looking after us and our slightly nervous dog. Just had the best week in Camber and The Owl was our local and it was fantastic!! A great pub, run by lovely people serving top quality food and drinks. Our group was aged from 9 to 83 years old and there was something for everyone. On the 1st day I had fabulous oysters, my Dad and husband had the burger (huge and tasty). A few others had the mussels and everyone said they were the best they'd had so I had to go back and have them myself, absolutely amazing again!! Thank you everyone at The Owl we loved it. Xxxx

Every time we go to the beach at Camber, we never miss a visit here. The service and food are faultless. Also, during our last visit, our dog accidentally drank sea water and unfortunately vomited in the restaurant, but the staff showed no annoyance at all and kept asking if our dog was okay. We will definitely visit here again and absolutely recommend it to anyone who with furry family members!

Most certainly worth 5* review. Service is friendly and relaxed. Food is generous and cooked to perfection. Quite possibly the best calamari I have ever had. Easy walk along the beach to get there from Parkdean Really hope to go again while in the area.

We left feeling quite disappointed by the food, given the high prices. The focaccia was really dry and stodgy, served with a pot of sunflower oil. Mains of Sea Bass and Pork were “ok” but really under-seasoned and generally just average - at average pricing it would have been absolutely fine but at £27/main course we felt it just wasn’t worth it. Which is a shame because the decor is lovely, the staff are so friendly and service was really good. The food was well presented, just let down by taste sadly. I have never negatively reviewed a restaurant like this before; my wife and I just feel really let down by the pricing vs quality.

Popped in for a coffee. We were made very welcome on a Sunday lunchtime, when they may have preferred us to be ordering food. Friendly service including a bowl of water and treats for the dogs. Really nice coffee. The menu looked tasty with a lot of fish. Would like to go back.

Just went for a meal so can't comment on the rooms. The food was ok but nothing special, was not impressed with the service, main course arrived in good time but the staff were not intentiv, gave up waiting to be asked if we wanted desert or anything else, missed a trick in my opinion we would have had desert and coffee and gone back the next night, but we left.

Had a lovely vacation one of the main reasons was the Owl restaurant,five of us had a few absolutely lovely evenings of good honest food,friendliness,relaxation the main reason why people have holidays brilliant,remember liking the bill,roll on next summer !

I don't think I will ever visit this venue, and nor would I want to! The poor telephone service I received from a lady over the phone was awful. For starters, they do not accommodate under 5's and when asked why the lady got very shirty over the phone stating "it's in our policy". Considering they are located by the seaside where families are 90% likely to visit if in the area, to not accommodate young children is beyond me personally. So I requested the woman recommend me somewhere locally, she said "I have the Dunes Bar or it would require a trip into Rye." When I asked could she recommend me somewhere in Rye, the lady made it such a task! She suggested the George or the Standard followed by there are lots of places to eat in Rye. I was on holiday and I don't know the area, so a recommendation from a local would have been good. Clearly too much for this woman, the Owl lacks good customer service and people skills. Discriminating against young families, without giving any reason either. I strongly do not recommend anyone with a family go to this place.

Rang to check availability for 2 adults and one child. They do not accommodate under 5s so I asked if they could recommend somewhere that does and clearly that was a taboo as the lady on the phone proceeded to get very short and abrupt with the answer of rye has loads of places. (Great when you’re not from around here)

Was a really enjoyable night the staff were so helpful three of us were dairy free and one gluten free they were so helpful with our needs plus we had a dog and the pub cattered for our dog as well a great place to go and we are back in camber in August and will return.
