Fantastic food, great service, nice atmosphere. First time going since the new owners and it's great now.

Fantastic pub, will definitely be coming back! Came here today with my mum & dog and was served by Mary- who was a diamond. She was very attentive to us and made sure to get a water bowl for my little dog on this hot day. Great service, thanks again! Will spread the word & be back for a quiz night 👍

First time going under the new ownership and the food was excellent. We got 4 tapas plates to share and they were all excellent, the duck pancakes and the squid were so so good.

Second time I've been (1st time for bar menu and second for main menu) and it was amazing both times, the food was cooked to perfection (kudos to the chefs!!), service was fast and very friendly and welcoming. Id definitely go again and highly recommend!! Was a tad pricey but most of our party of 6 did have 3 courses 🙂

Fantastic find! We went for tapas which were as good if not better than Barcelona! Wine was superb. Honestly, best gastro pub in the area. Loved loved loved! Thank you to our lovely waitress Ellie who recommended the best cheeseboard and wine to tidy up a superb day. Everyone should come here!!

I believe under new Ownership, we popped in for a random Friday night meal on passing, the service was great, very friendly, and the food was amazing, a little step up for “just pub grub” well priced and amazing taste! Worth a visit.

Not sure if we caught them on a bad day comparing our experience with that of the others that have previously reviewed, but our visit today was total rubbish. We had a table of 11 booked, we had to change the booking time by 3 hours at quite late notice which they were more than happy to help with, so kudos for that, thank you. On arrival everything was fine, sat out at the back room where there was room for all of us, which again was fine as we had quite small children with us so it got us and them out of the way. We ordered our food in 3 different orders, the starters of the adults to come out the same as the mains for the kids - however some of the adults starters and mains came out at the same time, sent the roast dinner back otherwise it would have been cold by the time we’d have rushed our starters. When some of the roasts came out later on, we had to ask for two to go back into the microwave as they were barely warm, which is already annoying. We had one vegan roast, one veggie roast and a lamb. The vegan and the veggie came out identical and I had to clarify if the Yorkshire pudding on the vegan roast was actually vegan, I was told it was. Then was told they would check and came back to me saying no it wasn’t. So why put it on there? Don’t advertise something as vegan when it isn’t. It’s really annoying and to be honest massively unprofessional. One star is for moving the time of the booking and being really nice about it. One star for having a great outside area for the kids. It’s a really nice pub but I won’t be coming back.

They need to hire a new cleaner, sticky tables, cobwebs and dead flys absolutely everywhere

I Was in the area. Unfortunately they don't serve food on a Tuesday. However the lady was super polite, friendly & welcoming. Just what you want from a pub.

Late Sunday lunch, roasts were excellent, veg and potatoes well cooked.

Absolutely perfectly delicious roast dinner.really friendly and polite staff, brilliant family run pub atmosphere with an inflatable bouncy in a well confined safe space. The menu isn't complicated or overly large which shows their commitment to getting what they do just right.

Made to feel very unwelcome.Extremely disgruntled barman.I felt he couldn't be bothered. Table was all sticky. Not impressed.

We were looking for a pub lunch and spotted this as we were driving and just pulled in. Welcomed by friendly staff and found a table for the 4 of us (2 adults and 2 children). Service was quick although the staff did forget a few things, like clearing the menus away and asking how my wife liked her steak and what sauce she wanted. I feel that these were just minor things though as they did explain that the kitchens were new so I expect just a few minor teething points. So no drama 😊 The food tastes great. I had the fish and chips and the fish was cooked perfectly, soft and flakey and crisp batter. The steak was cooked medium and my wife loved it. Overall a lovely Saturday pub lunch and I'd definitely come again. Cheers.

1st visit this year. Father's day lunch. All the roasts were superb. Dad wanted his beef well-done, was not a problem. Becky was a very welcoming host. We'll be back k soon.

Very good meal. The menu was limited but all the roast meals our party had were lovely. The variety and quality of the vegetables served was excellent. Also the real ale was smashing. Well done

Went for a roast with the family on Sunday and was able to sit in their lovely beer garden! Food was excellent and you could see the garden was under renovation but its going to look fab you can see the hard work thats gone into it. Kids had fun and we got to relax in the sun with yummy food. We will be back for sure!

The Railway has a limited Sunday menu of 3 meat roasts or a Squash veggie option.The pork roast was decent .I would definitely recommend the chocalate brownie and ice cream for dessert

Food was great and the chef is very good. 2 of the front of house staff were friendly. However that's where the positive comments end. Loud music even from the function room coming from the garden, doors slamming in the breeze, no table service (despite being a pub / restaurant), shouting from the small number of customers, lots of flies in dining area and the drinks (coke) tastes watered down. There is no atmosphere, the music was way too loud almost as loud as a night club, we felt very uncomfortable with the loud customers and atmosphere and wanted to leave. The price is very reasonable however I will definitely be avoiding this place.

First visit but enjoyed it. The food, (we had fish and chips) was excellent and plenty of it. It was a sunny day so we were able to eat outside ☀️ We were surprised at how quiet it was for a Saturday and Bank Holiday weekend but that was even better for us Will definitely go there again 😊

Great pub next to battle station Good food

Our first visit and proved very friendly pub. We each enjoyed an excellent Friday night fish and chips. Special thanks to Becky for her bright and bubbly waitressing. Very dog friendly, as our lab/staff cross Betty would testify!

Best pub ever! Becky and Nathan are the most fantastic bar staff in the world. Great service, friendly and lovely and went completely above and beyond. I left my bag on the platform at Battle and they sorted getting it back for me and kept it safe for me while I made my way back. When I got to the pub they were just so bloody lovely. Fantastic humans and they pour a good Guiness too. If you're ever there and see a lady called Hannah (who leapt into action to get my bag) get her a Malibu. She's a legend. Love this place. Will be back. THANK YOU!

My hat goes off to Byron’s chef, the lamb shank was superb. Won’t bother eating in any other pub in battle anymore… Keep it up.

First time customer and what a gem. The staff were really friendly and the food was out of this world. Gorgeous baked camenbert and homemade soup. My son said it was the best steak he'd had. I had a chocolate brownie to die for. Well done guys, we had a great birthday celebration and will definitely be back. Oh and the music was banging. Highly recommended x

Love the staff and grate food with fire

Had lunch here today with a friend. We thought it was quite expensive. We had jacket potatoes which were small and a bit overdone. Not really value for £9.50, even with a salad. A coffee was £3

Excellent meal, outstanding staff

This is one of those places you want to keep secret so it doesn't get too busy ☺️. But I have to acknowledge their food, service and overall feeling via this review. I have been a number of times here, I used to eat regularly at another local pub until a friend introduced this place to me. The food is really really good, the friendly staff are amazing and the pub is clean and well presented. Their menu is varied and often their specials are worth checking out.

We had a wonderful time today at the breakfast with Santa. Thanks to all the staff who looked after us so well. It was great to have a gluten free option provided with no hassle too.

Brilliant service very welcoming family pub, went with a family of 9 food was amazing. The Santa express was so magical my children was amazed and a lovely way to end Christmas Eve. thank you, we will definitely be returning.

We had a family meal for 9 people on Christmas eve, the food was excellent and the staff were very attentive. I had the burger and it was cooked to perfection, all the food arrived at the same time and was prepared to a high standard.

Just been there tonight for a Christmas meal with friends. England was playng France in the world Cup, so the bar was under prezsure. This young lady, I think her name was Evie, served us. I think she is the landlords daughter. Now we work in the retail catering business, and this young lady could run rings round most people I have met. What a credit and a pleasure to be taken care of by her,watch out folks, she will be running a pub soon. Highly recommended.

Nice pub with nice gardens and kids play area which is really good in the warmer periods. It has a lot of TVs and a warm fire in winter.

Visiting on a somewhat busy Friday night we were welcomed by the bar staff. The pub has a mixture of a bar only area, bar area with tables and a large restaurant area situated at the far end of the building. We visited on a rather cold night but there was a welcoming large fire in the bar seated area. Having not booked we were asked if we’d like the restaurant which initially appeared a good option as the bar area was full. However it was a little chilly and empty so we opted to return to the seated area and wait for a table. The bar staff were very accommodating and offered us some seats to await a table which came quickly. The menu was large with specials posted on a board with a good overall choice of items. Food arrived quickly and was served hot and full of taste. I would offer a full 5 starts except there were a few pointers. Our table was located next to the doors Leading to the restaurant area. One door however had been damaged earlier which caused it remain open leaving a nasty chill to roll into the room around our legs. The landlord was very good and attempted to resolve the issue but it did somewhat make the area a little uncomfortable for a short while. The premises appears to have had some remedial work completed in the last year with new owners taking over. This however appears to have not followed through to both male or female toilets. Such a shame as with a revamp of the facilities it would be a lot more pleasant. Overall, 5 stars for staff, couldn’t fault them, 5 stars for food and welcome and bar area, but 4 stars for facilities and the annoying draft. Looking forward to perhaps visiting when it’s warmer to make the most of the restaurant and outdoor area.

Lovely little pub, right next to Battle station. Perfect for a lunchtime bite and really snuggly in the winter, with a lovely real roaring fire. Thank you, I’ll be back!

Lovely meal and friendly service

Lovely atmosphere great staff and amazing food. Had lamb rump which was perfectly pink and my wife had lambs liver which was so soft and the seasonal veg was so fresh. Best we've had. We will be going back.

Popped in for a quick drink while waiting for our train. Quick service and plenty of seating. The seats themselves were very comfortable, definitely a place with staying for a while in mind. The seating outdoors was surprisingly comfortable being essentially a covered bench. Staff were very friendly too and didn't have to wait at all for service.

Amazing pub! Hayley and Byron have created a fantastic family pub that is welcoming and a great atmosphere. The food is incredible and the staff are friendly and helpful. They have some brilliant events and different live bands. We are now regulars thanks to these guys and can’t recommend the pub high enough.

Really enjoyed my first visit. Food good. Staff friendly. All lovely and clean. Downside not a great carpark.

Girls night out. Not been into the Railway since the change of hands. Was a little wary when the member of staff started rattling the list of what they didn't have available and my hear sunk. Sat down with the girls and Sam came over with menus. He was lovely and we eventually ordered. I have to say I had the Thai Salmon and it was very good. Sam and the young lady( sorry through all the chatting we didn't get your name) we a real asset to the pub.

Nice pub good beer friendly staff

This pub is pleasant and the staff are polite, food was good mostly. The things that let it down on my visit are the really bad cheesy chips that tasted triple deep fried and were super greasy. Most importantly, the reason for the 3 star instead of 4, is because of the 30 to 40 large flies landing on the drinks and sometimes food. Fix the fly problem and don’t serve gross chips !

Visiting Battle for a small getaway and found The Railway on Google. Could not be happier with the whole experience of having a pub lunch. Wonderful, friendly and helpful staff. Absolutely stunning food and a well presented, tidy garden and building. Thanks guys! James. :)

Very friendly family pub restaurant. Lovely garden with children's play area. The food is excellent perfectly cooked lamb, beautiful home style pie and an extraordinary good green curry. Plenty of choice in the menu including vegetarian options. Staff are friendly, asked and catered to allergies.

Asked about Sunday lunch prices, barman had no idea and asked the landlord who said it depends on what meat is on the menu anything from £13/14 to £16-20, not much help really and the loud radio didn't help either!

Very nice good play area for children

This is hands down the best veggie roast that I have ever had. My wife had the beef roast and was more than impressed. The staff were excellent and worked their socks off, as it was very busy (completely understand why it was packed). The food was amazing and you will not leave here hungry. Well worth a visit and we will be returning in the very near future. Value for money as well. Just excellent! Visited a second time and the meal was excellent again. The only criticism we do have is that even when the bar is quiet and the restaurant is busy with minimal staff, the waiting staff are left to run their socks off while bar staff have a leisurely time serving the odd customer or preparing drinks for orders. Would be good to see other staff supporting the waiting staff when it is busy!

Lovely country pub, couple mins walk from Battle Station. Good choice lagers plus couple real ales and great food menu. Also good friendly service. First time in there as a convenient meet with couple friends, won't be the last! Definitely recommend!

Big improvement on last year...

Big disappointment. One gin glass for whole pub! One type of tonic! What's advertised on their menu on their website you can't have and menu we were given, half not available, so you can have fish and chips, curry (but careful as they don't know if its spicy or not) steak or burger! Half puddings not available so only got choice of 3! No coffee! Such a shame
