The Camber Castle in Rother

Great little find whilst out and about away from our holiday resort, warm welcome, dog friendly with reasonable priced beers, nothing else needed, will be returning over the next few days, highly recommend.

Lovely friendly staff was there for karaoke night great atmosphere, enjoyed the entertainment more than the resort we were booked into. The landlord went well above and beyond to make us feel welcome and the locals made us feel so welcome, we will defo take the time out of our annual holiday to visit as we enjoyed the atmosphere so much. You don't often see this anymore.

Great local pub. Popped in for a few drinks with friends whilst on holiday. Really friendly owner and good atmosphere too. Would definitely recommend

What an amazing place had a week on holiday and popped in to the castle camber and what a lovely friendly pub. I was only there for a bit and already felt so welcomed like a 'local' subsequently we went another 3 times in the evening after what an atmosphere definitely recommend it to anyone thank you Pete and staff

A proper breakfast here after a long walk along the beach with the dogs. Dog friendly family pub, just what the community need👍👍 Gonna have to pop back again to try a main course or 2 at some point😍

Decidedly less attractive and busy since my last visit several years ago. Almost empty despite the sunny weather though some tables outside did have customers. Selection of draught beers has declined to a poor level.

This was the central part of the strip, very friendly and welcoming. From the instant, I walked in. Bar staff was very friendly, and I will definitely recommend this to others who are planning to have a breakaway here. I would really hope they get their food menu up and out there in the market for people to enjoy.

A bit run down and scruffy looking on the outside but very friendly people and free parking if you tell them your number plate at the bar.

Amazing meal, you get great quality food for such a small price paid £40 for a meal for me my partner and 4 children, and the burgers are one of the nicest we've tasted, thank you camber Castle

dont waste your time, the parking is con. spent £10 on the beach car park, drove down after for a drink, saw this pub, signs said free for customers. A week later im hit with a £60 parking fine. Tried to appeal which has been refused. Now told if i appeal again I will have to pay £100 if rejected. 2 drinks at the pub has cost me over £70 at this place... AVOID

I was here in February. It was my first time in Camber Sands. I came down there with a friend who has a holiday home there. The staff was absolutely amazing, they made me feel really welcomed. Going back to Camber in June and will definitely be visiting this pub again.😊

Shame they got rid of the food, it was the best part of this otherwise trashy pub.

Really tasty food, lovely staff, quite quick to be served and big portions. Don't let the exterior put you off, the diner is calm and quite lovely. We were recommended by another person staying at pontins and we weren't disappointed. Make sure if you park your car in the carpark, that you enter your reg when you walk in to avoid a ticket (parking is free). Location is about 10 seconds from leaving pontins on the left. We will return!

The pub is now under new management and we have been lucky enough to have live groups each weekend for the last 4. They have installed a new Jukebox, pool table and fruit machine. Definitely worth calling in to see the changes.

Ok, it isn't the quaintest pub, but the staff are lovely and welcoming...and it has the cleanest toilets I've seen in years!

Not very busy, remember to put your car registration in the machine when you arrive get into the bar

Worst food and customer service I have ever had to experience. Vegetables wher raw, beef was like chewing leather, gravy was like water and the didn't even offer a full refund. Only after 20 minutes of arguing that they agreed to partially refund our money 😡

Very friendly helpful staff, free parking for patrons , kitchen was closed for 2 weeks, but the beer was cold

During my visit to the area of Camber Sands a local pointed out this lovely establishment and being that it was the only local establishment that serve breakfast before 10 I wasn't spoilt for choices. At first Appearances it doesn't come across as much however the staff and food was excellent.

Beware! If you bring a car you will get fined for parking in their own car park! I have never been to a pub where you have to pay to park. Utterly ridiculous. Won’t be back as the meal has now cost me £189! There should be signage in the pub to address this.

Really fresh, hot food, fabulous service and even better the staff have a sense of humour which goes along way with me. It was a relaxed environment considering the mayhem that's down the road...

We hadn't booked, walked straight in got a table. Food was really nice, good hearty dinner and generous portions.

Friendly welcome. Easy to order we were 5 and were served shortly after. Portions are perfect (adults and children). Place is big and they got lota of parking spaces.

Very friendly staff and good food. What else do you need? We arrived a group of 22 adults and children super hungry for breakfast. They prepared all the orders pretty quickly and in good quality without any mistakes. Thanks for feeding the hungry crowd!

I’ll be honest we did not try the food so can’t rate that, but we did pop in for drinks and received possibly the worst customer service experience i’ve ever received, and I live in South London where nobody has any manners! But the lady who served us in the Camber castle, was just rediculously rude. She definitely should not be in a job where she has to work with customers face to face. On arrival to this venue, we walked in front door where the member of staff in question was directly infront of us, she didn’t greet us or even say hello, she just stared at us in silence asif to say “what?” . After about ten seconds of us just looking at eachother, I realised we weren’t going to be greeted, so I asked if we could come in for a drink. She pointed to a room for us to go in, we found a table & we ordered our drinks from this female staff member at the bar. She again did not say a word to us, just stood at bar looking at us waiting for us to order. She took our orders and shuved them across the bar in silence. Cokes were given in a can, not offered a glass or anything. Just had the coke cans slammed down on the bar. She at no point said please or thank you or asked if we wanted a glass. She just had really stand off ish energy, and a really grumpy look, asif we were an inconvenience to her. We also ordered a cup of tea which was bought over to table and put down and she walked off AGAIN without a word. This lady was actually just rude. Im not a snobI dont expect much, but a hello? Or how can I help you? Or thank you? Or would you like a glass? That’s the minimum you expect from ordering drinks in a bar. She did not greet us at the door. Or say goodbye when we left. Or acknowledge us at all, other than shuv drinks at us. She was very frendly to the table of men nearby who appeared to be locals. Ofcourse it’s important to have good relationships with locals, but we were visiting and were planning on staying for a few drinks, maybe even a meal later on, and planned to visit a few times as nice break from holiday park. They missed out on alot of potential business from us, from being so rude. Really wouldn’t recommend going here unless you want to be treated like you’re an idiot. I will say however. The venue was clean! Not sure why they were all going into toilets together but lets assume that it was to clean it :)

I think you should be aware that we received an incredibly unethical parking fine last Summer. We paid for the whole day. Received a text to say we had given an incorrect vehicle number. Returned immediately to pay for the whole day which was successful that time. Only to receive a parking fine for 100 pounds months later for apparently paying too late?Despite paying for the whole day and the technical error not being our fault!? Objectively completely unreasonable. Citizens Advice now having to help - that is a lot of time and stress now for what we thought was a nice day out.

We stopped here for lunch on 14th September and got a parking ticket. Nobody at the bar offered advice about some sort of registration for parking when having a meal, although we registered for the covid 19 with name, postcode and telephone number at the bar, and having proof we ate and paid for the food there at the time stated, the appeal against the parking fine was rejected. For a pub car park to have a camera with vehicle registering system giving accurate times seems a bit OTT. So beware. The drinks were OK, but the sandwiches were only average using flannel bread.

Food good although due to current situation not as much choice. Staff friendly & helpful . Manager put Tom & Jerry on the TV for our grandson.😊

Food very nice, service with a smile,even when busy

Visited Camber Sands Pontins in July 2020 and as expected was quite limited with facilities and things to do, during these Corona Virus times. Came across this local pub and was instantly greeted with a smile and helpful entrance, involving necessary Covid information and help filling in the requested government form. Very friendly people and staff, they welcomed myself and my partner with open arms. Unfortunately we never ate there, but based on our experience of having a few drinks and spending a few evenings there, I would highly recommend a visit to this establishment.

They do a smashing pie and mash here, proper liquor too!

Having driven around for a few hours trying to find a pub with space to eat at, I discovered The Camber Castle with room aplenty. I didn't take long to find out why. Tired, hungry and with rain starting to fall, I made a dash for the entrance, not realising I'd gone in the exit thanks to a one way system. The room didn't look like much of a restaurant or pub and more like a disco hall and I had doubts they'd serve food. Anyway I'd made an easy mistake. I was met with hostility from a punter, who told me, gesturing with an empty pint glass to go in the other way. I left and returned in the entrance a metre or 2 from where I'd arrived. I hadn't had a chance to ask whether they served food or whether they had space to seat my family of five before the same angry punter told me to use the hand sanitiser, which I hadn't seen, as it was tucked to the right hand inside the entrance on a table I wouldn't have seen unless the external walls had been made of glass. This wouldn't be a problem but for the attitude I was given - I just needed to ask a question and leave to get my family from the car. A member of bar staff stepped up to the bar and explained the rules rather abruptly. At this point I'd quite forgotten I just wanted to ask whether there was room for my family. I said I don't appreciate being spoken to the way his customer or he had spoken to me and he said he didn't appreciate the way I was speaking to him. Rude staff defending a rude customer probably cost The Camber Castle 5 customers, but I consider it a near miss. Edit, part 1: Corrcted 'landlord' in original post with 'A member of bar staff' as this was an incorrect assumption on my part (my apologies). Edit, part 2: Following a reply to this review from the owner, I feel I should clarify that I take the restrictions and requirements around COVID-19 very seriously and that there is no way I would deliberately defy an establishment's processes, which by necessity vary by establishment based on layout, risk assessment and capabilities. This was only the second restaurant I'd been in since lockdown begun, so perhaps a spirit of cooperation would have been warranted. I'd suggest also that while instructions might well have been written on the doors, they were wide open and not the most obvious, especially when dashing though the rain, keeping 2 metres from the few customers packing up outside. I feel that the staff and the customer who addressed me had failed to acknowlege that I'd probably made a mistake and managed to alienate a potential customer by taking entirely the wrong attitude. Manners cost nothing.

Food was not really worth the price, you could taste the burger itself was a cheap frozen burger, and just a handfull, literally 14 fries, for £10, just not worth it,

The place was empty when we visited. Kids loved the pastas. We had burgers and it was good. Not too much of the atmosphere there, but was early still. Staff was lovely and attending. Clean as a 3 stars, pretty ok.

Excellent alternative to Rye Bar

A well needed roast dinner enjoyed after a long weekend at pontins. Staff were friendly and the food was great, and the price was reasonable.

Spacious pub with lots of seating both indoor and outdoors. Very convenient location since it's a short 5min walk from the beach. They've got a fairly big parking lot as well which is free for customers, you just have to register. It looks like it's fairly popular with the locals with lots of regular activities like bongo and such. Can't comment on the food since we just had a couple of beers.

Magic place went there for a wedding reception, the people who ran the place are great very friendly and welcoming the food thay prepared for the reception was lovely, would definitely recommend this place
