The Bull Inn in Rother

Popped in to the Bull Inn on the off-chance to find somewhere for dinner, and the staff were really welcoming. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and a really nice separate dining area. The food was really good, and thanks so much to Dan for looking after us so well.

The food was out of this world, cook by the fantastic Tim. So fresh and really good Portion sizes. He was a lovely man came out to meet us. The bar staff were just amazing, we had 2 children with us 9 and 10. One of which has adha and autism but the staff were so understanding and just spoke to her like she was normal which made her so at easy. It was just a wonderful night, due to the great hospitality received. Thank you honestly can't wait to come back.

Excellent lunch - simple “pub grub” but well prepared and plenty of it. Dan, who looked after us, was a delight - helpful, friendly and efficient; a credit to the place.

The staff were nice enough and it was clean. But other than that, everything else was pretty dismal. The service was slow, it was really expensive for what it was, my husbands burger was not cooked though and no mention that is how they serve them, the kids chicken burger I ordered was just a dry chicken breast not breaded or battered, they put crispy onions on a kid mac and cheese meal and the ice cream didn't taste of anything and came with lemon when asked for it plain. We left the main part on two of the meals, the chicken "burger" and the beef burger, and weren't asked if anything was okay. We didn't complain at the time as the kids wanted desert, and I never 100% trust any establishment after you've complained. Also they don't do roasts. It was a waste of a meal out, I wouldn't go back!

Very disappointed. I had high hopes but they were dashed quite quickly. Firstly the pint of bitter my husband ordered tasted like vinegar. We then ordered our food. It is a strange menu as you order your meal and then you order your sides - at a high cost. Example: A burger (of any description) costs in the region of £14. You then order a side (chips / dirty fries / salad etc. ) for £4 - £8 and a sauce for £1 - so your burger and chips with sauce costs £20 and it's not outstanding or any different to any cafe in the area. We waited a long time for our meals (we were told of a staff shortage so we accepted their apology). My husband found that he had no sauce in his burger but our daughter's burger had been drenched in pesto. Our friend had ordered a burger which was quite rare inside. He was told that this was the way the burgers were served, that it had been tested with a probe and was perfectly cooked - just not the way he likes his food. I had a hallumi burger which consisted of a thin slice of hallumi in a brioche roll with lettuce and a slice of tomato. On reflection the meal was not worth the money.

Great pub with excellent service

Went in last night, first time in years. The food was great as was the service. Also good value for a table of 7 including a small child. Good choice of gluten free options too.

A great place in every aspect. Great location, great service and great food. Staff are welcoming and the pub/restaurant is welcoming. Would definitely recommend.

I would recommend this place to stay if you are in Battle for a short time. The people working are super friendly and nice. You have complimentary tea and water in the room. If you need to refill, you have extra outside in the corridor that you can pick up. The rooms are clean and nice. The only point down for the place is that some of the rooms face the main street. You have a lot of traffic noise because that road is quite busy all the time. If you have an issue with that, maybe ask to be put in one of the rooms on the back if available. Also, the parking is a bit of a headache, so check well before going there.

A Great New Year spent with the friendly owner and friendly attentive staff at the Bull Inn. Our room was well equipped with a comfortable bed and a delightful view of the high street. We did sample the food which was very nice, with big portions. Would definitely stay again.

Lovely stay at the Bull Inn. All the staff were so friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble was lucky enough to catch a great live band too on the night we stayed. Breakfast was amazing!!

Been to the Bull on various occasions and generally 5 out 5 with food, and service. However, I went with the in-laws a few days ago, and the fish and chips was burnt, gammon was tough, eggs were rubbery and the burgers weren't very flavoursome. I will be trying the resturant again in the near future, as this occasion was the only bad situation I've encountered. Therefore, I am guessing a new or temporary chef.

We had booked a meal not really knowing what this pub was like. We really enjoyed the food and the staff were lovely. Pub atmosphere was friendly and warm.

An absolute shambles we waited. 1 1/2 hours for our food to arrive I had the turkey it was a small plate, only three turkey slices,no stuffing, it was warm , roast potatoes over done and hard , and the Brussel sprouts few to number were rock hard altogether a small plate if food, other people in our group had similar plates. We are a small group that suffer from Parkinson's any additional stress adds to our Tremors most of my party were disappointed

Amazing expereince with the very professional team at The Bull Inn serving up a super Christmas meal for our big group! Maddie in particular has been a huge help throughout the planning stages... as we were walking from St. Leonards! Every question was met with a speedy and positive response. We all had a great time and the food was delicious! Highly recommended.

Highly recommend staying here for a weekend away to soak up all Battle has to offer. Staff are so friendly, loved our relaxing room and the food is delicious too. Thank you for a lovely stay!

We came here for a last minute lunch (walked past the week before and I couldn't stop thinking about how good the food smelt). The food was absolutely fantastic!! We had an incredibly juicy bacon cheeseburger, dirty nachos with chilli and a kids Mac and cheese! We all left very full, very happy and in a slight food coma! The staff were lovely and the atmosphere was very friendly! Definitely recommend!!

Don't bother! What a disappointment. Had Welsh Rarebit, didn't taste like cheese as it was so mild.

Fantastic atmosphere in this pub, friendly locals and a very well run traditional pub! Good events put on to keep things Intresting (the Sea Shanty evening was a lot of fun!) Staff were helpful and friendly, will be visiting again soon!

A tradition pub. Good beer and good atmosphere. Battle is a great place to visit.

First class service, can't be beat for the genuine welcome and friendlyness. The room and ensuite we're lovely and supplied with plenty of tea/coffee and bathroom supplies. Slept well. We were in room 2. Food was delicious that we ate at the bar and reasonably priced. The bar was full of locals who were readily willing to tell us of the history of the Inn. We had a great night out in the bar plus a live band too who were very good. No negatives at all, definitely going to return. Thank you for a great stay.

Lovely place ,lovely friendly staff. The food was hot and plentiful, the drinks were what you'd expect. We visited Battle for the day and called in for lunch . Nice atmosphere throughout.

Great afternoon meal, stopped here after not being able to find somewhere for a meal. Good selection of food, wife has chicken Caesar salad 🥗 which was full to the brim to the top of the bowl and I had cheese burger which was great homemade tasted good. Good selection of drinks and good value for money. Staff friendly and helpful

Great ambience at the pub and all three meals were excellent. Fish and chips, nachos and soup of the day are all recommended.

So on arriving at your bar restaurant we were greeted by a lovely young lady that asked us to wait just a second while we waited for another person to greet us and ask our names, the first impression was that everyone was very pleasant and we felt quite comfortable. The person booking us in looked us up on the iPad and then said I'm really sorry I'm not sure what what room your in let me check on the group what's app. There were some alarm bells ringing however we are we are reasonable people so we accepted this and waited. After a couple of minutes the person dealing with us found out which room we were in and took us up a flight of stairs and showed us in. On first impressions the room looked like it had been recently done up but to be honest a poor standard. The most notcible thing was that the room was at an angle, it slanted at every angle, you could tell because the skirting boards were at different heights, the dressing table was physical wonky and the bed I almost rolled off off during the night. And just to mention the bed a again it was really noisy, creaking every time you moved and upon looking we discovered that there were loose screws. Also there is a step into the bathroom which caught me out twice and should be addressed. Upon looking up and down the street for local restaurants were decided the food was quite limited in battle high street, so we decided to eat where we were staying and I have to say this was our biggest mistake. I ordered the prawn cocktail and BBQ wings and my partner ordered the nachos. My prawn cocktail arrived with no source and I had to ask for lemon, the chicken wings were bland and pink in the middle(I have photos) the only saving grace was that the nachos were ok. But for the prices you charge and food that we received we were not satisfied. Although I will say that the did take off the price off the food we were not satisfied with there was no offer of an alternative so we both went to be bed hungry, in fact coming down for crisps because we were so hungry. The fact you charge £14 a burger and expect another £4 for fries is ridiculous. And the same for breakfast(which should have been included) you get breakfast for £10 but doesn't include drinks but if you pay £12.50 you get coffee and tea, this is obviously a rip off. The saga continues!! Although you are a busy bar especially as I can appreciate on a Saturday I was kept up until 12.40am by what appears to be staff members that you employ, shouting and swearing while we were both trying to sleep Surly as an owner you would respect the people that were paying £110 a night to get good night sleep or not as it feels. And just to rub insult to injury when we left there was no one to say goodbye, did you have a nice stay all we got was a couple of guys outside smoking and when we did leave he went back inside to see if we had left a key. I emailed the manager and the response did not once mention an apology which made our experience more disappointing, a sorry goes a long way sometimes, Overall do not stay here if you want any type of customer service.

Stopped off on a rainy Wednesday with mum, dad and the dog! None of us were starving but all a bit peckish. Very dog friendly and lovely , friendly professional young staff! There were a few people sat at the bar when we arrived - more people in for lunch when we left, we had Welsh rarebit which was gorgeous. Delicious FAT chips which were perfect and a very very generously sized prawn cocktail. Will definitely be back!

This pub is much improved since my last visit a couple of years ago. The menu is simplified, the prices are more realistic and the food is perfectly fine now, which is very nice to see. The staff and the beer continue to be the highlight.

The staff were very pleasant and friendly. The food was decidedly average, from a very limited menu. Despite being assured that the steak and ale pie, the sole occupier of the specials board, was homemade, it very clearly wasn’t, and it was inexplicably served on a piece of paper. It tasted fine, although nothing special, and was served with some nicely cooked, but rather unremarkable steamed/boiled vegetables. The beef chilli looked nice, but was bland, and I swear the guacamole was from a jar.

Great atmosphere, warm and friendly staff. Lovely food at good prices. Dog friendly and very welcoming, they spoilt our little Jack Russell Tll, Trevor something rotten.

We popped in today and had a great experience and consumed some lovely food. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly and worked very hard to make the visit great.

What a beautiful pub. Walked in and was greeted by the very friendly bar staff. Was told we could sit where ever we would like. She even pointed out that the fire had been lit so we decided to sit by it. The menu had good choices. We went for BLT’s When it came it looked great. So much bacon..
