It was a late lunch so we just shared a cheese and chutney baguette. It came with fries and a small green salad. Firstly, it was a good job we only wanted one to share because it was £11.99. The baguette was nothing special. Quite limited in cheese which was cheaply grated to make it look more. The worst thing was the fries. A horrible brown colour, looked like they had been overcooked or recooked. Sure they were also done in oil that was used for everything and well past its useable date. They were just short of disgusting. My wife wouldn’t eat them because they smelt and tasted of fish. Shame because staff were friendly and drinks fine with what could be a nice beer garden (there was some rubbish waiting to go to the top by the looks of it). Probably won’t be go again and certainly not to eat.

Terrible experience. We arrived at 8:00 pm and we’re looking forward to a meal as the place looked fab and we had just arrived on holiday. However on arrival at the bar when we asked for a menu the guy behind the bar said “ we’re not doing food now!” To which I replied “ but the board outside said you serve food until 9:00!”. He replied “ well we’ve been busy today !” A you believe it !!!!!!!! I was at a loss for words but what I should have said is “ surely with the board outside advertising food until 9:00, surely that’s breaking trade descriptions. Appalling attitude !

There is a bit of a wait but it is worth it for this freshly cooked, mouth watering food.

We ate here twice this week whilst we were on holiday in the local area over half term. Very much enjoyed. Service was a little slow on the first occasion (I had to go and find someone to take the order) but on the second occasion that we visited - excellent - a very attentive male waiter who even ran out of the building to return our daughter’s coat which she had forgotten - thank you so much. Food was excellent - good portion sizes (although adult French toast could have been a touch larger for £9.50) but overall, delicious, well priced food and a very good breakfast selection. We will certainly return.

I last visited the Woolpack when it was under the old ownership in fact left a very positive review last time but on my latest visit under new ownership I was left very disappointed the Sunday lunch was just OK Pork quite dry vegetables not great 1 piece of cauliflower (really) and exspensive for what it was it used to be a more of a traditional Sunday lunch with plenty of vegetables and meat done to a T and good value I appreciate prices have needed to rise a bit please offer good value for money, on a final note the service was very good very attentive.

This pub was great, the food was delicious and the staff were fantastic! We had dinner for a birthday celebration, so there were a lot of us, including kids and a baby, and they couldn't have been more hospitable. Shaun made us feel very welcome, whilst Bart and Toby waited us with perfect manners, despite the constant back and fourth with sauces and sides for the kids. Nothing was too much trouble for them! If you want great pub grub, with excellent service, this is the place for you. 5 stars!

Wonderful roast dinner the service was fantastic but felt for the staff after hearing the constant raging from what I believe was the chef otherwise our experience was delightful . Highly recommend the Compass Inn for a fantastic Sunday Roast .

Building and Rooms lovely. Room was excellent in terms of size, appointment, cleanliness and comfort of bed (unfortunately it was a bit stuffy; noisy when kitchen fans were on; and, strangely, no-where to hang towels). Unfortunately, the Downstairs (bar and Restaurant) is tired and has a 'grubby pub' feel; e.g. crockery not clean, 'restaurant' waiting staff were super friendly but not knowledgeable nor efficient. Barman actually quite brusque and pulled cork from £30 bottle of wine out of sight of table and plonked on the table like a bottle of ketchup.

I’ll start with the positives: the staff were very friendly, they allow dogs in the bar, and it’s a good location. But MY GOD the food was unbelievably poor, both in quality and value. £24.95 for a roast that contained three slithers of meat, three tiny cold roast potatoes, one slice of carrot, one slice of cabbage, a small parsnip, and a stone cold Yorkshire pudding. And that was the “upgraded” Duo roast, with two meats. There was more empty space on the plate than food, which is hardly how a roast is supposed to look. A Black Forest knickerbocker glory was £10.50, and was just an average size ice cream portion. It was a family table of 10, with two impatient three year olds, so we didn’t send the food back, but certainly on another occasion would’ve done. Don’t eat here. Bad.

Take away delivery not to be trusted. Long story but one which combines incompetence with bad arrive and out right lying … I love this place as a restaurant ,.. but the delivery drivers are incompetent (unable to use google pins, apple pin , what three words location words) - and fail to communicate when they are struggling to find an address. In 2025 unacceptable

Had three different mains and three different starters on our two visits here, all were excellent. Both had the same desert both times as it was that good. Elise, Damien and Hattie were all very helpful in the Samphire restaurant and I must say have struggled with understanding some previous reviews. The bar is set up as you would expect with a 4 star hotel with waiter service and drinks at a slightly steeper price, which compared to a pub can be seen as slow and a little expensive. Horses for courses as I would say.

Great view. Popped in for lunch on Friday. Fairly quiet. On asking for 2 latte's with Soya Milk. The lady at the till just looked at me and said "can't do that at the moment" no explanation no offer of alternatives, just looked at me blankly. My daughter overheard and asked her if you had any hot drinks and she said "oh yes you can have americano" To be honest the way she spoke to me gave the impression there were no hot drinks. My daughter noticed the coffee machines were being worked on so assume thats why there was no latte's etc. But had to work that out ourselves! The same older lady brought our pastys over and just plonked them on our table without even a smile or a nod. We're very friendly, hate to think how difficult customers would be treated! Other members of staff seemed lovely and the food was fine although very expensive. The view is definately the selling point.
