The White Buck in New Forest

We had a family Sunday for a table of 11. Never been before and a beautiful looking place. Arrived 10 minutes early but seated straight away which was great as we had young hungry children with us. This unfortunately was where the good service ended. Sat quite near the waitress station and till we were in prime vision for multiple members of staff (of which there were a lot) and they walked past our table regularly. However we had to ask at every stage… please can we order drinks, please can we order food, please can we look at the dessert menu etc… Even when we asked for the dessert menu they didn’t clear the plates which had sat empty for some time. We didn’t feel particularly wanted and more like an inconvenience. The food itself was ok, never one for high hopes for a mass produced roast I was pleasantly surprised although for the price it’s quite small and ideally would’ve been slightly warmer. Desserts again were not particularly hot but ok. Having not been asked if we wanted more drinks than the original first order we sat with empty glasses for some time. Leisurely is good, but attentive it wasn’t which was a real shame. Not sure we’d rush back.

Decided to have lunch out and visit the White Buck inn after a drive through the New Forest at its best. Friendly welcome and great service from Julie. Fixed price menu was varied and tasty with generous portions. A very pleasant and relaxed time. Will definitely return

Ideally suited for meeting up with friends from Bridport. Extremely well looked after by young Julie. The Pappadele with Rabbit was superb. Other mains were Fish & Chips, Half a Chicken and Sea Bream. All good. Rice Puddings, Ice Cream to follow. Espresso and Macchiato covered the Coffees. Only a single negative. What a hidden gem in the UK's New Forest. A visit from Australia with friends from Verwood. The ambience was welcoming. A large beer garden gleaming in sunshine. The food was excellent, empty plates always a good sign. The bar and wait staff were amazing, friendly and happy to engage in conversation. Conveniences were bright and clean. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and a few drinks. My husband was very happy to have a London Pride, which he hasn't been able to find in Australia lately. I loved the Silent Pool gin glasses. Very impressive. Thanks for a great experience. Don't hesitate to visit this pub, you won't be disappointed.

Went here for Sunday lunch to celebrate a family birthday, service was very slow, had to ask to order drinks, took 1 hour for roasts to arrive, then 2 meals didn’t arrive and had ask where they were. Had to ask for the bill then they hadn’t deducted the deposit I’d paid. Need to improve their service.

We went here as a family group of seven for Sunday Lunch. The pub was very busy and only outside seating was available but the weather was favourable and the garden pleasant. Several of us ordered a roast. The roasts were excellent; several of our group saying that this was the best Sunday Roast that they had had in a very long time. There were lovely roast potatoes, a good range of vegetables that were well but not over, cooked and excellent meat. The meat was succulent, tasty and tender (beef and chicken). The service was also excellent and quick although I did hear staff telling people who arrived later that there was about an hour's wait for food.

Lovely setting both inside and out. Food (Sunday lunch) was great and couldn't ask for more. The place is a little pretentious and some of the staff working there that evening were a little rude not to customers but as they spoke amongst themselves. Bitching is fine but please do this in the kitchen out of the way. They stood near the kitchen door and bitched constantly about customers. Not good...... If you've had a long day dont take this out on the customers when they simply ask for something.

The White Buck had been recommended to us. We booked for a birthday celebration. Unfortunately the service was terrible. It's a nice location. Food was ok.

We eat here regularly when visiting family, but won’t be going again. Had a great meal with excellent service. Fish was cooked perfectly. But, on the way out we spotted a dog sitting up to the table, on an upholstered chair that couldn’t be wiped down. It had its nose on the table, apparently eating. This was in the bar area so dogs are allowed but surely this is going too far?

Having had bad experiences with food previously here of which i left a review... (still awaiting contact from management as they said in their comments by the way) we thought we would give it one last go as the girls enjoyed playing in the garden. Lunch choice isn't great so opted for a sandwich and my partner had to choose a salad off the restaurant menu. When our food finally arrived I was very dissapointed in what I got. My bread was hard and looked like was out a packet of sliced bread and I had about 8 chips with it. Quick forenote about the pic attached... the tomato and salad was off my daughters burger to make my meal more substantial. This cost £10 and was totally over priced and a rip off. As I said this is our third and final time going here, which is a shame as the setting, garden and Interior is very nice. Service, management and food let's this place down massively.

It seems as though a lot of thought has gone into making this venue stylish and welcoming, and it has an element of "Country Lodge" going on. The menu was appealing and the food we ordered was REALLY nice. The prices are similar to the more basic British pubs like Harvesters and Beefeaters, but the food is more refined and more like restaurant food. The staff were very attentive and looked after us well - again, it was more like a restaurant experience. We go here fairly often, either for a drink, or for a meal and it always feels like a treat, even though it's not expensive. We love this place!!

Being local, eaten Sunday lunches many times these last 30 years at the White Buck with family/friends. It was the "go to" place, recommended many times. Always completed the feedback request, though never any request from them in return from Fullers to address my issues. Booked two weeks in advance, Sunday lunch for 24 March. 2 + 1 mature small dog. The day prior, I was advised the time originally requested and accepted, was unavailable. Accepted a later timing. On arrival, a long queue of patrons awaiting. Shown to inside area where the seat which was badly damaged, stuffing showing. Our server Sienna, excellent. Drinks/food order done. When the Roasts arrived, plates were cool and the food cool/lukewarm. Sent back. On re-arrival the outside of the plate was hot; the food cold. This is the third time in three months where Sunday lunch has been unacceptable to eat because of being cold. Thank you Fullers for the 10% discount from a £60 bill for cold Roast food which was sent back as inedible. Perhaps next time? No there will not be a next time, three strikes and you're out. New Forest venues rely on local support throughout the leaner months after tourists have been and gone. A great pity the White Buck have forgotten that "customers make pay day possible".

Had breakfast at the white buck yesterday morning, exceptional service from Dawn and Julie and beautiful food, very family friendly especially with the added bonus of the mobile farm (just for yesterday) thank you for looking after us so well we will be back!

Good food, lovely staff but need more of them. Food was great but slow service once they became busy as they needed more staff. Really enjoyed the food, good for children and dog friendly

A delightful country pub. Dog friendly. Ample free parking. You can choose to eat in the bar area or the restaurant. On our arrival we were seated promptly with menus to browse. Our server, Julie, was very friendly and efficient. A jug of water was on the table before we had even requested it. Excellent server. We ordered soup of the day, sea bass mains. Both courses were presented very well, hot and tasted delicious. Compliments to the chef. Fullers offer Laverstoke Park Farm ice cream made from buffalo's milk. This local ice cream is delicious. Recommend trying the salted caramel ice cream. The ambience in the very pleasant restaurant was warm, calm but quietly buzzing with conversation. A delightful lunchtime dining experience. We will be returning.

Great lunch, excellent food, excellent service, excellent surroundings, excellent waitress Meg. We were so well looked after, the table was nicely set up for our occasion. This is a quality New Forest site of valuable tradition.

Visited here on a midweek lunchtime in January. Fairly quiet, which is to be expected this time of year. Greeted by a lovely young man “Will” who looked after us very well throughout our visit. Decor inside is rustic bringing a warmth to the ambiance. We were seated in a dog friendly area towards the rear/side. Food was all good. We had Bugers/Risotto, and a portion of crispy squid, although not amazing. Finished with a coffee and a mini desert. I would happily revisit.

We have dined here a quite a few times now and always had great food and service but this time the food wasn’t great & service a bit off in places! Pretty disappointed as it’s such a nice place but not sure we will return now!

Stayed recently, wrong room for our requirements, food was poor and staff were rude, complained to the so called manager and their response was shocking.

We met up with old friends here for a mid week dinner. Everything about it was perfect from the comfy sofas in the bar lounge to the excellent food and service. Will definitely visit again the next time we are in the UK. Thank you for a very memorable evening.

I waited nearly 2 hours for my main! Majority of the food was clearly from the local cash and carry! The manager was also very rude and uninterested is the poor experience his customers were receiving. We ended up going to McDonalds in the end after giving up hope of having a dessert being served in the same day. Very expensive for average pub grub, avoid if I was you reading this.

This restaurant serves great food which is freshly cooked. It is excellent value in an idyllic location in the New Forest. Staff are extremely helpful, polite and conscientious. Would highly recommend

The atmosphere is great, and the staff friendly. Food is good, though overpriced considering quality and quantity in our view. We were astounded by the length of time it took for our orders to arrive. Drinks were swiftly delivered, but starters took 40 minutes (focaccia and squid - hardly lots of preparation work) and mains another 25 minutes which for a family with two children can be very frustrating. Many tables were empty so not a particularly busy evening either. We were offered no waiver on the service charge, which was disappointing as we queried the delay with the waitress so they did know.

Sadly, we were disappointed with this venue. My sister ,who as a local recommended it to us,but as she had not been there for years, said the food had gone downhill from what it used to be.They did enjoy their steak pies, but the mash let the meal down as tasted like packeted mash,or heated up frozen mash without any butter taste in it. My burger was OK but overcooked to my liking, maybe my fault as should have specified not to be so well done! The chips were great and a lovely sauce on the bun. For the price I would have expected a bit more, like some coleslaw for instance on the side and not just lettuce and tomato.We ordered two glasses of red wine to go with our main course, but sadly these did not arrive until after we had eaten it and I had reminded the waitress of the order. She explained that there were not enough staff here to deal with this. The service was also OK as very friendly and trying to be accommodating as possible, so I did not waver the extra service charge on my bill. A lovely building and surroundings so just hope that they improve on the food quality!

This was average, it was very expensive and they forgot our cauliflower cheese! It also has on the kids menu that it comes with pigs in blankets, it did not, we had to order a side of them. We went there last year and it was better then. I he adults and kids menu is the same size the adults food is ten Pounds more. The staff is still nice and friendly though.

Went for Sunday roast 1 member of my party is coeliac there was no options for roast as the lady couldnt confirm if the roast was gluten free told me to refer to menu which had no option for gluten free other than starters. after appealing to the waitress she disappeared to the kitchen where they agreed to do a Childs chicken burger minus the bun but had to be 2 portions so charged twice? Ok we went with this to not embarrass the young lady with coeliac disease. when it came out it was half a chicken breast smaller than a sachet of ketchup. I had the pork which was nice but on 2 slices so more of a starter portion. not enough trained staff nor tactile around someone with serious dietary needs! Left disappointed as the queue to raise this as a complaint was so long couldn't raise the complaint so that why we are on here AVOID !

Everything about our visit was brilliant. Warm welcome, attentive staff (in particular Chloe), amazing food. Nothing negative to say about our visit and we will definitely visit again 😊

We were holidaying at a cottage nearby and went for dinner with the family. We got a nice table on the terrace (there is also a very nice beergarden with tables on the lawn). This pub/restaurant is nicely set in the New Forest, surrounded by woods and with a really nice garden. We had the river test smoked salad with radish, fennel, grapefruit and dill for 9.95 and the roasted heritage carrot, avocado & pomegranate salad with toasted cashew nuts for 7.95. It was delicious and we liked the freshness and fruity flavour. For the mains we went for burgers and chips for the kids (8.95 each - reasonably sized), and the chalcroft farm beef burgers with Gouda, lettuce, tomato, red onions and triple-cooked chips for 18.50 with added guacamole (+2.50). The burgers were really good and juicy, would definitely recommend them! I was impressed with the white wine (Frontier) and my wife enjoyed a Pimms. The staff was very friendly, also with the kids and we will definitely visit again!

I really liked the staff. Hotel and food. I was disappointed with the standard of sausage and bacon at breakfast. For such a lovely place the quality of sausage and bacon was just not right. Staff very helpful and attentive. Fullers have better sausages in pub grub. Streaky bacon on a British breakfast is just not right. This could be great.

Had two brilliant meals at The White Buck. First Sunday lunch …nut roast and wonderful veg was delicious. Then an evening meal of smoked trout salad and sea bass, again wonderful food. The service is also amazing (the staff are well informed on allergies) and nothing was too much trouble. Such a beautiful setting too…in the middle of the new forest. Well worth a visit.

Very pleasant pub, with a huge garden (and over 20 rooms apparently). Efficient, friendly service from the front of house team. Food was on the whole very good. The burger seemed homemade and was very tasty - however the bottom bun was a bit on the soggy side, as can sometimes happen. Chicken schnitzel with Caesar salad was good. Mozzarella and tomato salad was huge - and very much enjoyed. Feta and watermelon salad was also very good. They also have a wood fired pizza oven - sadly we did not have the opportunity to try this out - next time! Overall no complaints.

Overpriced. Very slow service - waited for 15 mins in a queue just for drinks then queue again for food. Vegetables were tasteless. No apple sauce with Roast Pork. Food was lukewarm to the table. Just disappointed for the money.
