Goodies Fish & Chips in New Forest

The food was good and service friendly but the prices were much more expensive than i expected.

If I was judging just by the fish I’ve had it’s a 10/10. Absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately Goodies just seems to be stuck in the past. It’s a very limited menu and your competitors (4mins away) are so much ahead of you. You need to start offering different portions sizes on the chips. The portion sizes are painful and I refuse to pay what they want in order to make up the same size portion you can easily get down in totton central. Get with the times. Only went here as my usual chip shop of shut.

We visited Goodies for sausage and chips after driving around the New Forest. The food was excellent, no soggy batter on the sausages. They have an eat-in area which we didn't use. We've been visiting here for over 40 years, and the standard is still good. We'll done Goodies. Totton

Lovely staff, great service and kids sized meal was spot on.

One of my favourite Fish and chip shops, always good quality food. If you like pea fritters but find them hit or miss at different chippys , they're certainly a hit here. There's a large restaurant here too although I have not used it obviously the food will be the same great quality. Opening times are brilliant too no rushing before 2pm are the take away is open because of the restaurant opening hours. Well worth a visit.

Our best local fish and chippie. We regularly come for take away. It's the first place we think of when we want fish and chips for tea!

Really disappointing amount of chips for £3.20, shocked when I looked in the bag! Just enough for 1 person, if that & only one size available. Staff not the most polite either :( Nice enough chips and curry sauce

Very rude staff and very expensive. Totton fish bar is a great alternative and is much cheaper with bigger portions. Also mixed up my gluten free order the one day of the month they do it.

Well I don't normally bother with reviews. But on this occasion I'm dumbfounded I'm a regular customer and normally everything is fine. But today I had a sausage roll and I was looking forward to it. But 👎 no. it may have been cooked but it definitely needed a few minutes more to cook the pastry so I called the shop and was told there's nothing wrong with it and he had a proper attitude so I left it there. But I will be back if only to put my point across. You shouldn't be allowed to answer the phone really bad attitude has let the team down. Shame on you.

Really lovely fish and chips,hard not to stop in if I'm passing! Plenty of parking, Basic to eat in, but clean and friendly, lots of tables and usually space

Very good local chipper have gone an every time I’m near Southampton. Battered sausage chips and gravy. Extensive drink cans selection aswell. Very very cheap aswell. 2.60 for a big portion of chips.

Have been going here for years,always good until tonight, decided to eat in, ordered 2 x cod and chips, 1 single haddock (I will steal some chips) 1 bread and butter, 1 mushy peas, 1 curry sauce, can of coke plus tap water, £42!! Outrageous, fish over cooked, chips poor, will not be returning at that price

As a near local, I have tried Goodies several times over the years in a vain attempt to support local and can honestly say I have only enjoyed the food once. Considering fish and chips is just about all they do and they have been in business a long time you'd think they would actually produce a delicious meal but no. Small pieces of fish with skin on (which is unpleasant on cod), chips that are never fresh or crispy on the outside and meltingly soft in the middle- just badly peeled, collapsed badly fried potato bits. I understand that prices are high generally but Goodies is also more expensive than much better fish and chips elsewhere in the area.

Cod and chips edible, replacement meal after disastrous inedible meal from Goodies in Romsey Fri evening! Would have been more enjoyable tho had the 4 adults in the eat in area with their 4 unruly screaming kids, kept them under control! Absolutely selfish adults with no consideration whatsoever for anyone but themselves!

I live 5 minutes away and the chips are slightly warm at best by the time I get in. I think the chips are poor when compared with the chips we had recently in Weymouth; not even close in fact. It’s also the most unfriendly shop you could find yourself in. The fish is ok most of the time. For a family of 4 it’s actually quite expensive so it grates on me when it’s cold and soggy. Sorry guys but I think you need to have more pride in what you’re doing.

I have changed my opinion on this chippy. It was the best value and quality in the area. However taking into account inflation it is now the most expensive in the area and not value for money in respect of portion size. It's a shame but it's a fact. There are similar quality chippies in the area that are cheaper. If you can travel as far as Blackfield then I recommend you try Zourtorious great quality and value.

Terrible staff, we walked out before food as guy serving was as incredibly rude. Amazing in the current cost of living crisis a business is happy to loose customers. Went elsewhere had wonderful fish and chips

Turn up at 450 pm to get my fish and chips getting the kids eat free offer then the jobs worth to me had to wait till 5 pm so left and got a Keba

Very good food, hot and fresh. But quite pricey. However I would go back but not order as much.

Undoubtedly the best quality food around Totton. I was very pleased to be able to get batter scraps too. The downside is that it's the most expensive locally and has the smallest portions. Personally that's fine but others disagree. The staff are friendly and there's the option to eat in which is handy for visitors to the New Forest

Sat in restaurant ordered cod and chips twice with curry sauce both plates of food came out 1 cod was over cooked I asked for it to be changed staff were very rude took it away and told the guy who was cooking that it was overcooked was all batter . he was very rude saying give her her money back in ear shot of us. Girl came back to table said are you OK waiting while another cod is cooked I said yes that's fine with in a few mins my fish was ready looked like same piece of cod. Did not want to complain again so I ate it. Should not off eaten it was up all night with diarrhoea. Fish was only food I had eaten all day.

£3.10 for what was about 4 chips. Decided to try a different chip shop and shouldn't have bothered

Small portions for the price. Continue to trade on loyal locals but not much else.

The amount of chips you get for £3.10 is awful, the board just states chips one size, not small or large but definately just enough for one person if that! The woman serving was rude and could do with some customer service training. Won't be going back here I'd rather drive to millbrook chippy.

The food is delicious, especially the cod and chips. Friendly staff.

We really liked Goodies. Great scampi and chips. Ate it out in the garden and met a friendly cat. It was great.

My previous review of this place was quite low as the chips were pretty grim to be frank but Saturday June 1st at 4pm saw me return as the shop had had some good reviews since my visit I’m pleased to say the service and food was excellent,chips were piping hot and the sausage in batter again top notch.Both were cooked to perfection,I’m glad I gave them another try as I had a decent meal which I thoroughly enjoyed hence this edit of my review

Been using Goodies for as long as I've known what fish and chips is. Food has been up and down over the years but still imho the best chips going. Service on the busy days is still pretty quick and the staff all friendly.

I thought I would try goodies again sadly again it was pretty horrible, chips were lukewarm and like the fish had been sitting around for too long. But I was glad to be able to help the young man stranded and needed to get to copythorne

Goodies used to be the best local chippy … sadly no longer true . Chips were awful .. potatoes clearly not ‘eyed’ before being chipped . Practically every chip had black eyes in .. add to that the fact that they were practically cold also meanest portion size I’ve had anywhere .. not that the portion size was an issue as the seagulls ended up with them anyway ! Suggest you change your name to Baddies !

Moody staff and chips with sharp edges and over cooked battered sausage and sauce tasted weeks old used to love this place but not anymore....

Should have learn my lesson by now. Poor value, poor quality and poor portions, badly cooked. Not going back. That was your last chance.

Been going there years and whilst it’s not great it’s eatable but this time was terrible I asked for steak and kidney pie got told by this lady who was serving nope none left So I said can I have minced beef When it came out and I cut into it it was actually chicken and mushroom it was a little busy so let it go and sat down and ate and was ok when wr left my wife told the lady she just stared no apology nothing won’t be going there again

The fish was freshly cooked so very nice, although the chips were also freshly out they were inedible due to full of black bits and bruises yuk

Fish needs to be skinned, you end up wasting a lot as we would not eat skin and it is very expensive, also chips are awfull they need the bad bits of potato removed so that the expensive chips can actually be eaten. Will not be visiting again.

Always nip in and get fish and chips here when I'm down that way great food every time,fish has always got crisp batter and chips are always hit with a crunch when you bite into them,definately recomend visiting, you can also eat in.

Won’t be going here again. Chip portion was very small, barely enough for one person. Food was just chucked in the bag. Fish cake was broken up into about 50 pieces in the bag and was all over the rest of the food. Feel like this was done in a hurry even though we were the only ones in there. Some people eating this were vegetarian so didn’t want fish cake all over their chips. Ended up having to throw some food in the oven instead once we got home. Terrible. Avoid.

Ordered chips and curry sauce, went back to car and looked in bag and was shocked to see there was hardly any chips. I went back in and asked if there was a mistake with the chips as I had a pot of curry sauce and few chips. This rude aggressive idiot came over and said that’s it, that’s the portion. He needs to go to customer bootcamp. Have always had too many chips to eat for an OAP like me. Apple pie was greasy and tasted of fish- not nice. WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN

The fish and chips tasted decent enough (no better or worse than others) but was the smallest portion I’ve had in years. It would be child size in a pub or another fish and chips shop & for the price I think it was not good at all. I wouldn’t go again. The restaurant itself was clean but the staff were a bit grumpy to say the least. I’ll stick to my usual in Lyndhurst.

Absolutely disgusting, cod was rubbery and cold and chips were old and cold too, got there at 12 noon and I recon this food was from the day before, and overpriced, gone downhill since I used to go in there.

Go here regularly as its the closest fish and chip shop to me. However todays order was disappointing. I knew that the portion sizes were not the best put todays chips were shockingly small. I honestly think I would get more chips from mcdonalds.

I think the chips were reheated from lunch time, very poor. I had two pieces of fish but, for £17.60 for one chippy dinner I must of put £6.00 of that in the bin.

Best Fish and chips in the area.

Have been to this place on our holidays many times over the years. Always got good food and service. Went yesterday , best fish I've had for decades. We will be back again.

Extremely disappointed. The staff were rude and ill mannered. Food thrown into the takeaway bag. Curry sauce pot thrown in upside down, with the lid unattached. Which consequently spilled everywhere and ruined my car seats. Staff don't seem to care about their jobs or their customers. Not to mention the hair I found on my plate the last time we ate in the dining room. Would strongly not recommend.

Wasn’t much atmosphere as it’s a take away. Not sure what your looking for. But the food is grand, reasonably priced all tasty.

Poor, I took my elderly mum here bought fish and chips to take away. The fish was hard on the bottom, it must have been in the warmer a long time. The portion was also small and expensive, but worst of all, l Spent the late evening on the toilet with diarrhea. Don't go this shop

Good fish and chip shop food is nice and tasty my only issue is no small medium and large size just one size which is a bit small for me I could do with a larger portion

We use to go there all the time, but the quality has gone down dramatically. Chips were swimming in grease, the fish quality gone down and the service was disappointing. The young lads serving us later, saved it from 1 star. They've apologised for mix up caused by the 1st server and sorted things out.

From when we entered, the staff were relatively friendly and welcoming. We decided to dine in and it was very good value for money: when eating in, you get access to free Heinz condiments like tartar sauce and ketchup not to mention a clean toilet in a clean, tidy seating area. Food is good value with chips costing only £2.60 which smell scrumptious and taste delicious - freshly made! The fish is coated in a golden crispy batter which was served hot and flaky. I recommend to all in the area, a good chippy all in all.

I used to love this place but why it has gotten so expensive I don't know. We get less chips than ever and prices are higher than ever. Just had battered sausage and chips x 2 and chips total from 2 portions was enough for 1 compared to other chippies. Such a shame this was such a memorable place, will be going in to town next time.
