Deep Blue in New Forest

Had a lovely lunch here, second time we visited and the fish was chunky, white, fresh and crispy batter, homemade chips! Not greasy at all! Beautifully presented. Nice, friendly staff! What more could you ask for? Best fish and chips we have had for years!

Fish was good but let down by soggy batter. Chips were cold and rubbery like they’d been reheated from the day before. Portion size was on the stingy side. Ok but would not hurry back.

Huge serves of fish and chips, freshly cooked and served with sauces, vinegar and lemon. Reasonable prices and a kids and a seniors menu along with regular menu options.

Let's start with the positives, ordering online and it being ready when arriving is very convenient. Now the negatives, The fish had the skin left on, which for me is a no no. The batter on the fish was absolutely dripping in grease, the same goes for the fried gherkins. Overall very very disappointing and DEFINITELY not worth the money.

Pretty good! Senior haddock, chips, peas and drink for c.£14. Fish had good texture and was well battered. Chips and peas could have been hotter. Toilets clean.

Stopped here to collect fish’s no chips to eat down by the quay. Nice and freshly cooked and tasted delicious. Highly recommended

Brilliant. Lovely, friendly customer service from the young lady/waitress. Gave us extra teabags, as we requested strong tea. Senior fish and chips outstanding- for value, flavour, freshness of fish, includes mushy peas. Would highly recommend. Thank you

Arrived just after 6pm, was served straight away. On hindsight I obviously received food that had been standing for some time as there were four customers waiting for their order. I ordered a Senior Fish & chips with mushy peas and a child’s meal for my grandson. I was told there was Cod already available. The. Cod was tasteless and batter wasn’t crisp, both the fish and chips were lukewarm and the chips were really dry. The only hot item was the mushy peas. Disappointing take away, will not be returning. The dog had the actual cod and the remainder went in the bin. Total waste of £15.97

Fantastic fish restaurant. We (4) had pensioners meal and the portions were enormous and so tasty. Great value and no hurry to finish. The young lady who served us was a great person to front up the place and was very helpful and friendly. Thank you for a great meal

The last time we visited Deep Blue we got there at 2.00 p.m. and they said that we could not use the restaurant because they closed at 2.30. Yesterday we were in Lymington and made a point of getting there early, 1.30 once again they said that we were to late to use the restaurant, I pointed out that it's only 1.30 the server with a smirk on her face again said we were to late. There were 4 staff standing around and there was a family buying FnC to take out. There was clearly space in the restaurant. To say I was gob smacked was an understatement. Had it been say 2.15 (restaurant closes at 2.30) maybe I could understand, but 60 minutes before closing. To Deep Blue management, you seriously need to sort out your staff, if all your shops are like this you may well start to find people won't use your restaurants, especially with other poor reviews regarding quality and price. If you can afford to turn customers away 60 minutes before your restaurant closes you have serious customer service issue.

Lovely friendly staff and we thought the quality of the fish and size of the chips portion was fine. Compared to where we live this was not expensive. Lovely crisp batter and all piping hot. The pot of tea was good too. Definitely would recommend Deep Blue .

Seems as if the financial situation has finally taken its toll. We were regulars to this establishment. We noticed that although the great quality of food remains the same the portion sizes have shrunk. Fish fillet 20% smaller and chip portions almost half what they were a year ago. Can't knock the quality, however it's no longer value for money and as of such We will be taking our trade elsewhere. Luckily we have found somewhere else that serves quality fish and chips and a lot cheaper.

Used this place twice in the two weeks I was in the area. Both times I was left disapointed. The fish and chips were tiny, stale ( chewy batter. Vile) and very expensive. I mean REALLY expensive. The second visit I paid £8.00 for a tiny scoop of rotten chips and a sausage. Add a wait of about 20 + minutes on both occasions and it's a car crash. Avoid. There must be better elsewhere.

Whilst staying in Lymington, we purchased a takeaway for five people. Very good service, and extremely tasty food.

Fantastic fish and chips,very tasty, visited late afternoon on 24/10/22, highly recommend a visit, you won’t be disappointed, and the staff really nice, we were served by a young lady who is a credit to the business, did’nt catch her name, which is a shame, because she definitely deserves recognition, dark hair in a pony tail and glasses,

Quality fish and chips, but not hugely better tasting than any other standard chippie. I couldn’t believe how small the standard chips portion was! And very overpriced.

I ordered 2 takeway small fish and chips. I didn' notice the senior portion and they gave me 2 fish and chips. The fish was freshly cooked and nice. The chips were all cold and mainly the dry stale end bits. £18 for 2 portions with 2 cans of coke. Bit expensive for what we got.

Great service given the current limitations, excellent fish and chips at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Lovely chippy. I enjoyed the squid and would def go back. Hubby loved his fish n chips. Are on the quay and enjoyed the views ... much cheaper than eating in!!

ordered takeaway food for4 totaling £35 then asked to use their loo. They would not permit me, saying it was for restaurant users only. Surely a customer is a custmer regardless! Cod was small and of average quality. Would never go there again regardless. And the restaurant was empty.

Awful, awful, awful. Rude staff, couldn’t be bothered to serve us even though they apparently closed 20 mins after we arrived on a Sunday evening. Clearly just wanted to go home. Offered us the dregs of what was left; rancid scampi, a flaccid sausage, tasteless pie and a few soggy chips. And then charged full price for it. We had hungry children with us...staff literally didn’t care. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

We thought that nearly £20 for 2 fish & chips and 2 cans of coke, to take out was quite expensive. With people queueing to order, then waiting for their food, the path outside the shop was blocked. There was nothing wrong with the food, particularly as we ate it in our favourite spot overlooking the quay.

Very poor indeed.Ordered two portions of large cod and chips, got one large one small. Large fish partially undercooked and therefore mostly inedible. This coming after advertising both on the website and all over the shop frontage that the they supported the ‘Eat out’ incentive, then told they do not. When questioned staff replied ‘ That’s just advertising, we are a takeaway’

Went with family and ate in. Food was great, and both the chips and fish were fresh. Service was excellent. Tables (and chairs) were being meticulously cleaned between customers. Good safe spacing of tables. COVID safe.

TERRIBLE. wrong order twice Very rude and insensitive staff who messed up a simple order. Food was cold.

Whilst visiting Lymington I telephoned ahead and ordered 3 portions. 1 Large fish and chips. 1 standard size Fish and Chips 1 Child’s Chicken nuggets and chips. They took my name for reference. On arrival the queue was about 20 people. Got into the shop. No record of my phone call. Took my order. 10 minutes later was given my order with my name written on it (despite them saying earlier that there was no record of my order????). As if to add insult to injury I was charged £26 for this order!! The food on this occasion was not special and didn’t enjoy it as much as I have in the past in fact was mediocre.

Rude staff today. Had takeaway to eat by the sea. Young lady very curt with us. Asked to stand outside and wait for the order which is understandable but no excuse for no manners when we asked for forks for our meal. Told my husband to go back outside to hand him the forks when he’d been called in to get the order. Wouldn’t go back again. Food average I’m afraid.

Unfortunately we've not had the best experience with this place. The young lady at the till was rather rude and the staff in general was not the happiest considering everywhere we've been in Lymington we've had the best service. I've asked if we could sit in but been told we can't as I've paid for take away otherwise extra service charge and different prices.. Then I've asked if me and my 13yr old son can use the toilets but was told we can't as we are not dining in.. then I've asked for extra salt and vinegar twice to find there was none when we went back to eat it. No cutlery no tissues... One of the portions was huge whereas the other was half the size. Chips was undercooked and tasteless. I understand the shop is very busy on a Saturday night and with Covid restrictions puts extra pressure on everyone but I wish I didn't spend my £21 for two portions in there...

Day trip , first after lockdown , restaurant observed all the covid 19 protocol,.Staff handled the customers orders , both takeaway and in house restaurant promptly, our fish and chips in house order was handled without fuss are waitress, Rachel deserves special praise with the way she handled our order

Spur of the moment stop at this chip shop. Served with lovely fresh hot chips in a great little bag. Sat on harbour with my dog and enjoyed them all. Thank you.

The food was lovely - cooked to order and the service was quick and friendly. Reasonably priced too, and came in recyclable cardboard box.

I had the Halibut filet with chips. Very good portion, and not soggy at all. Very tasty and highly recommended.

We're never disappointed here - the fish is fresh and the chips are not greasy, the batter is light and crispy and the tea is good.Mushy peas or curry sauce - either are great.The staff are all very pleasant and helpful and everywhere is spotless.

Recommended by my son and didn't disappoint. Cod was very good - could have large fish and different size chips. Mushy peas are best eaten in I think though. We took away and sat in harbour eating from the boxes provided (not plastic). Only issue - using very small wooden prongs to eat fish is an art! Next time I'll carry my own cutlery - worth it.

We ordered via click and collect, all very efficient. Order was ready by the time we walked up to collect it. We had cod and chips, mushy peas, onion rings and breaded mushrooms. No complaints with any of it very enjoyable

Great place to eat when your fed up with the usual pub fayre. The staff were fantastic and cheery and the food was well priced and tasty. Please dont make the mistake as we did and think its just take away fish and chips, behind the counter there is a very quiet and clean restaurant area. Fantastic best fish and chips ive had in a while

We have previously had very good take always and decided to have a family meal in the restaurant. It was a very busy Sunday in the height of the season so we expected a bit of a wait. Sadly they were out of Diet Coke but were happy for us to go and buy our own but being Sunday evening nowhere was open. They apologised for the slow service even though we hadn’t really thought it was slow! Everyone enjoyed their meals and without any prompting they deducted all the drinks from the bill because they had no Diet Coke. Would definitely go there again.

Love this fish and chip shop. We took away 4 meals and sat at Lymington harbour. Couldn't have asked for more. What I love about this place is the crisp, no great, no mess, no fuss kind of approach the staff bring. There is no mess anywhere, and even the staff cooking's 'deep blue' coloured polo shirts aren't at all smudges with grease!I'm not bucking the trend, as most people seem not to be giving five stars, buy I honestly think this place is great.

Four of us visited today and sat in. Over the top prices led us not to have fish and chips but two of us had battered sausage and chips, one had plain sausage and chips and one had burger and chips. Chips were the worst we've tasted for a long time and were all small bits. The plain sausage and chips looked rather insipid on the plate and to think we were paying £6.25 for it! We could have stayed at home and cooked that ourselves and it would have tasted 100% better. Surroundings were claustrophobic too. Won't be coming back and disappointed. Lymington deserves a better fish and chip shop on its main shopping street.

I don’t like writing bad reviews and it’s such a shame because the food was lovely. Great portion sizes and good value for really nice chips. However the girls behind the counter are surly and unhelpful. Also long glittery acrylic nails are surely not ok when working in the food industry. Not a pleasant experience. Basic manners and at least try smile and welcome your customers! We enjoyed our chips though!

Our annual holiday to the New Forest usually includes at least one fish and chips takeaway from Deep Blue, despite their high prices. I don't know what's changed there, but we were disappointed with unevenly cut and cooked chips, and rather a poor piece of fish. This was not good value, and we won't risk it again.

Chips were probably the worse I’ve ever tasted tiny little hard bullets rather than what they should be. Service is average at best. Never again.

Hi four of is called in and opted for the eating in option . We had not made a mistake , the staff were very friendly and the food was excellent .The place was clean and comfortable .

Great fish and chip shop with a great variety to choose from. It is located within a few minutes walk of the harbour down a cobbled slope path so great to be able to eat there.

The food was very nice. We bought fish and chips and sat by the waterfront with with. We waited about 20 mins to get our food which was a little long but the main issue was how rude the man serving us was. He challenged what we had ordered, tutted at us and made us feel like a huge inconvenience. Good food but customer service needs looking at!!

This is a nice place to sit and eat fish and chips, light, clean and comfortable. We had cod and chips and the batter was not too greasy or too thick so was pretty good really. I never find fish and chips to be all that tasty and this was true of this experience too. Lost of salt and vinegar was necessary to lift the dish.

On arrival we went to the counter and ordered fish and chips for two to eat in. Straight away the unfriendly girl said we had to go and sit down. We sat waiting for more than 10 mins. We then called over to the same counter and asked could we be served. There was no customers waiting to be served. I’m thinking we got forgotten. Eventually served by a nice young man very quickly. Standard fish and chips served.

Some of the best fish and chips ever. On a nice day take down to the harbour and buy a cup of tea from the cafe opposite. Can’t beat it.

Unexpectedly long wait for fish (around 15 minutes) but it is freshly cooked and tasty. It was just under £10 for one portion of fish and chips which I thought was quite expensive but I was reading an article on their wall about the price of fish going up so maybe that is just how much fish costs now but it did come as a bit of a shock! The chips were nice- could have done with more salt and vinegar though. The staff were friendly and the place seemed nice and clean. Overall it was good but expensive.

We wanted to stop off for Fish and Chips by the sea, we were passing Lymminton so decided to stop. We headed for the signs showing marina and parked in the car park on BATH ROAD, it was a bit of a walk but that was fine and we eventually found the Deep Blue shop - there was a long queue and lots of people sitting on the harbour with take away packaging from there - so that is always a good sign. Plus we couldn't find anything else. Food was fresh and nice to eat.

My wife & I had stopped in Lymington to take in the harbour views and fancied some fish and chips for lunch. We have eaten from here before so we already knew what to expect. We both had a small cod, standard (small) chips and shared a can of Coke, with a couple of sachets of tomato ketchup.

we bought two portions of chips for our tea, that is all i could afford between 3 of us. One of the portions served by Megan was extremely over salted ruining them all together. i was not happy, because we were all still hungry. The other portion was decidedly average.

Ordered on line to save time, food ready when we arrived, fab fish. Lovely chips all hot even following a short drive home.

Popped in for F&C;’s on a Saturday lunchtime, expecting to wait ages, given how may people were queuing out the door, but we were directed straight in to a table. Clean, functional seating, quick service, nice freshly cooked food, good value for money.

Didn’t know the Deep Blue chain of fish and chip shops. Nice place to eat in. Area for eating in is basic but okay but can recommend the food with waitress service. Also a take away.
