Deep Blue in New Forest

I’ve seen bigger fish fingers! Ridiculously small cod, and very expensive! Clearly for the holiday makers who won’t be going back.

Take away fish and chips cooked to order lovely and fresh.

I collected my large cod and chips 30 minutes ago from the Lymington shop. VERY disappointed. The flesh of the cod was so thin I am surprised the fish had the strength to swim. I always prefer to buy fish from a proper chippy rather than a pub. On this occasion I made the wrong choice. It was the same price as a pub but a really small portion by weight, most of it was batter. I notice there are a group of Deep Blue shops. This one is letting them all down!

Ordered a large portion of chips and it was tiny, like the size of a regular portion. Not sure if the server just got the bag size wrong. Forgot to give me my mushy peas too.

Popped in for some lunch on our day out in Lymington. Friendly service and good size lunch, would definitely return. Thank You. 😃

Was expecting image 2. Got given image 1. Paid £17 for this one ‘fish’ plus chips and mushy peas. Dry and chewy and flavourless fish. Mushy peas were like play dough. I thought fish and chips by the sea was meant to be good!

Chips were decent but fish was terrible. Definitely wasn't Cod. Very crumbly and no flakes. Have had better fish fingers from the supermarket. Tiny portions as well. Lymington deserves better than this rubbish.

Been going to this chippy for years as we liv in Portsmouth and it has always been a lovely place to eat. Unfortunately today the 18th April 2025 we ordered our usual dish of 2 regular fish and chips, when arrive was very disappointed with the fish as it was a slither covered in batter. Knives and forks already laid out on table were not very clean the wife had to go to toilet to wash them, not good.paid the bill of £32.47 and the young girl asked if all ok , I replied the fish was a slither and was not what we have been used to.poor show as it’s all about money.wont be coming back

Visited on the 16th April. Fish was overcooked, dry and tasteless. Batter was also overcooked. Chips were soggy and underwhelming. Service was slow, perhaps it was busier that day as a few other shops had lost electricity but the staff didn’t seem interested in proving any sort of acceptable service.

Went in and was greeted with 'We only have X3 bags of chips'. We thought well that be enough for us with some fish... No, we were rudely told 'No we are not cooking any more, we just have 3 bags of chips.' No sorry, or any politeness or manners what so ever. Not sure about the food, but going on other customers feedback it's not that great either. Shame, as we always believe in supporting local businesses.

Awful haddock. Dry, chewy and flat as a pancake. Shouldn’t be serving it.

Overpriced and tiny portions, won’t be going here again. Only 4 fish bites instead of the 6 fish bites I paid over £7 for. Over £6 for a measly handful of Halloumi bites. Shocking place.

Admittedly we arrived about 20 minutes before they closed, but were told there was only large haddock. Which would have been fine but the bits of fish were awful. So small, over cooked, with hardly any fish. They shouldn’t have been classed as large. Very greasy and disappointing

Avoid! Avoid! Food was underwhelming, more batter than fish. Staff, young, surly, uninterested, rude. No manager on site. Will never go back.

Regardless of the location, the price was a tab high but fair however, the cod and chips is quite frankly disgusting! Clearly using old oil which in turn makes the chips taste burnt and fowl. Portion of the cod is small for the price. All in all avoid just a tourist chip shop no real quality.

Very odd place . Front of house staff are not eager to help and no customer service skills . The menu screen kept changing so you couldn’t read it and it’s difficult to order . Food overpriced considering the location in the high street . Surely the owner / manager needs to inspire and support his / hers staff who are obviously on minimum wage and they must be frustrated with the complaints.

The prices are quite high for the portion sizes. A regular chips here is equivalent to a small elsewhere.

Last week we passed this lovely fish and chip shop and they were offering little sample pots at the end of the day. The food was absolutely delicious and fresh and we can't wait to come back and sample a full portion

Lovely, tasty fish, chips and mushy peas - and as Northerners we are pernickety about this because ‘southern’ oil-frying is often less tasty than dripping-fried ones. The staff were very friendly and couldn’t have been kinder or more helpful and we had cheery chats with other customers. Thanks very much

Slow service large bag of chips £4.59 wouldn't even feed a family as they don't even fill the bag up only quarter full. Mushy peas bits of paper in there and yet again another hair in the chips. AVOID And go to another chip shop that give you value for your money!

Went in last Monday and had great food and service from two young ladies working their hardest while the card machine was down. Really well done to them working so well under pressure! They’re great at what they do :)

We had booked 20 fish and chips in advance a week before for a church function and the shop and staff could have not been more helpful. The order was ready at 6pm and the food was hot and good portions of fish and chips!!

I popped in for some food on my break from work. There was only one customer in front of me. I stood for 10 minutes without once being acknowledged whilst the guy behind the counter messed about with the till. I eventually gave up and walked out. It seems the only two members of staff who were on duty have no idea what they are doing, and are totally lacking in customer service. I shall not be returning.

The atmosphere is lovely, very nice and extremely helpful staff :) Quick wait times and food was delicious. Would recommend

Avoid! over priced and disgusting,not sure how you can mess up fish and chips,but some how these guys have managed it,fish was disgusting,tasted off,also as thin as a rizla.soggy batter chips ,very few( which was a good thing in this case) overcooked and dry!!! that takes some doing to be that bad...kebab next time!

Ate in today and our fish was OK but chips were cold. After bringing it to the staff attention, they brought our meal back, one with hot chips the other luke warm. She said there was nothing more she could do, which astounded us. The chips were more like small hard chippings. Wouldn't recommend it there.

Please remove your wheelie bins from the high street pavement when not in use. They create an extra obstacle on an already narrow part of the pavement and look unsightly. I’m sure they don’t need to live infront of your window 24/7.

I am not local to Lymington so have used the take-away here only half a dozen times when the food has been pretty reasonable but at lunchtime on Tuesday of last week something seemed to go dreadfully wrong. I bought a large cod with regular chips for my wife's lunch. The chips were pretty good but I can only describe the cod as cremated and inedible. The cod didn't look like a large size but perhaps it had shrunk as it dried out. Ok, things can go wrong with cooking - it happens - but if something has gone wrong the food should be binned. It is unfair to wrap it up for the customer to take it away. In a sit-down restaurant you would send it back to the kitchen so why should take-away food be any lesser quality? On the positive side, the shop was spotless and bright, the staff were helpful enough and parking nearby was easy.

As a regular who goes in twice a week to go at in the restaurant, I was hugely disappointed to be turned away today for a table of 15 has taken over the whole restaurant, ! Nobody else could sit down although there were at least 6 tables free! Why would you put tables and seating for 30 people if you can only physically accommodate 15! ...it beggars belief!..so beware.if they have a large family! You will be turned away, and if they are short staffed which is nearly every week you will be turned away ..it really is hot or miss with this place, great food but really need sort it out, what a waste of a restaurant

Always have a problem with them closing too early ..they have even closed a couple of times that I have been in there with people that have been queuing for ages , they just said we are closing now? It's such a shame as great food ...also restaurant is usually closed and people have walked out due to that.

Day out in Lymington. We had a small cod and chips each at lunchtime. It was delicious. Hot and fresh. Really tasty fish and light batter. Lovely, friendly, efficient young lady running the place. Recommended.

If the shop is due to open at 4.30 it should have food cooking at least , booked on website to collect at 4.30 shop was closed until 4.40 nothing cooked or cooking . Had I not already paid online I would have walked away , when food eventually ready past 5pm it was not very nice fish definitely not fresh ended up in the bin . Waste of my money and time . I stood waiting for 25mins having pre ordered .

Tonight I have given Deep Blue another go, sadly although the food continues to be very tasty, also with friendly service… ‘regular’ fish sizes continue to be extremely disappointing for price (£8.59)

Absolute top marks from the girls in blue that served me the other day. Having a scrumptious fish and chips with curry sauce was served to me by some lovely young girls Isabelle and Evie. Can’t say I won’t be going back with excitement!! TOP STUFF

Have been going here for years, the cod has always been cooked to perfection, making it well worth the high price. I dont know if there's a new chef but, the last couple of times I've been (during the last week) the cod has been overcooked which really spoils it. Everything else is good, pleasant staff, just need to get the fish cooking sorted again and it'll be back to five stars from me.

Nice enough fish and chips but a very small piece of fish, and the fish was dry. Also we had to wait over 20 minutes when we were told to expect a five to ten minute wait. We had the managers special supposedly a regular fish and chips plus side and drink. We received the smallest slither of cod, I hate to think what a small portion would be, a fish finger perhaps? Maybe they gave us the pensioners special by mistake

What can I say.... Great staff, wonderful Plaice, amazing Haddock, mushy peas are warm and tasty.... What's not to like... Seating was clean and comfortable and the restaurant is warm. Epic! Thanks Deepblue... Made my evening

Terrible service between all of them behind the counter didn't know what they were doing ? Such a shame I lived in lymington for over 18yrs 10 yrs ago was an amazing chip shop. Then while waiting to be served to my horror I noticed he/she ? Behind the counter frying fish with 1& half inch acrylic nails on, so I walked straight out and went to the reliable good chipshop in Pennington

Smallest portions I have seen anywhere in the UK. Picture is of the cod. £7.95 for a bit smaller than a coke can. Paid for large chips. Had to ask for more because the portion was tiny small like you would get in a kids meal. Complete rip off. Go to the one in Pennington

I been surprise to discover that the cips on the fish&cips was not included on display price and you have to pat separated 3.90 for a potion of regular cips . The food was good but overpriced . Dogs are not allowed in ... and i have to eat outside in rain .

Had pensioners. Found the fish small and chips at best Luke warm. Served on a very small plate. Not worth the price. Service not great but short of staff, should have done just takaway .

Really pleased with the fish & chips we had the other night. The batter was light & crispy, the fish nicely cooked and the chips were hot & crispy too. Nothing was wasted.

Starting off with grimy cutlery wasn’t a great first impression. Then came the fish – tasteless and under-fried. But the worst part was my wife’s fish burger: the bun was literally as hard as a rock. Disappointing experience overall.

Wasn’t interested after we sat down, when I asked the girl at the counter if it was waiter service, she said there’s only two of us, we left as did another man who came in just after. Took our business to Lounges of Lymington. Shame on you
