Deep Blue in New Forest

I popped in for some food on my break from work. There was only one customer in front of me. I stood for 10 minutes without once being acknowledged whilst the guy behind the counter messed about with the till. I eventually gave up and walked out. It seems the only two members of staff who were on duty have no idea what they are doing, and are totally lacking in customer service. I shall not be returning.

The atmosphere is lovely, very nice and extremely helpful staff :) Quick wait times and food was delicious. Would recommend

Avoid! over priced and disgusting,not sure how you can mess up fish and chips,but some how these guys have managed it,fish was disgusting,tasted off,also as thin as a rizla.soggy batter chips ,very few( which was a good thing in this case) overcooked and dry!!! that takes some doing to be that bad...kebab next time!

Ate in today and our fish was OK but chips were cold. After bringing it to the staff attention, they brought our meal back, one with hot chips the other luke warm. She said there was nothing more she could do, which astounded us. The chips were more like small hard chippings. Wouldn't recommend it there.

Please remove your wheelie bins from the high street pavement when not in use. They create an extra obstacle on an already narrow part of the pavement and look unsightly. I’m sure they don’t need to live infront of your window 24/7.

I am not local to Lymington so have used the take-away here only half a dozen times when the food has been pretty reasonable but at lunchtime on Tuesday of last week something seemed to go dreadfully wrong. I bought a large cod with regular chips for my wife's lunch. The chips were pretty good but I can only describe the cod as cremated and inedible. The cod didn't look like a large size but perhaps it had shrunk as it dried out. Ok, things can go wrong with cooking - it happens - but if something has gone wrong the food should be binned. It is unfair to wrap it up for the customer to take it away. In a sit-down restaurant you would send it back to the kitchen so why should take-away food be any lesser quality? On the positive side, the shop was spotless and bright, the staff were helpful enough and parking nearby was easy.

Mixed reviews across a large group, mediocre food

As a regular who goes in twice a week to go at in the restaurant, I was hugely disappointed to be turned away today for a table of 15 has taken over the whole restaurant, ! Nobody else could sit down although there were at least 6 tables free! Why would you put tables and seating for 30 people if you can only physically accommodate 15! ...it beggars belief!..so beware.if they have a large family! You will be turned away, and if they are short staffed which is nearly every week you will be turned away ..it really is hot or miss with this place, great food but really need sort it out, what a waste of a restaurant

Always have a problem with them closing too early ..they have even closed a couple of times that I have been in there with people that have been queuing for ages , they just said we are closing now? It's such a shame as great food ...also restaurant is usually closed and people have walked out due to that.

Enjoyed our traditional Fish & Chips at Deep Blue for lunch. Service is good and the fish was pretty good. Very nice atmosphere as most of the places in Lymington are.

Day out in Lymington. We had a small cod and chips each at lunchtime. It was delicious. Hot and fresh. Really tasty fish and light batter. Lovely, friendly, efficient young lady running the place. Recommended.

Tonight I have given Deep Blue another go, sadly although the food continues to be very tasty, also with friendly service… ‘regular’ fish sizes continue to be extremely disappointing for price (£8.59)

If the shop is due to open at 4.30 it should have food cooking at least , booked on website to collect at 4.30 shop was closed until 4.40 nothing cooked or cooking . Had I not already paid online I would have walked away , when food eventually ready past 5pm it was not very nice fish definitely not fresh ended up in the bin . Waste of my money and time . I stood waiting for 25mins having pre ordered .

Absolute top marks from the girls in blue that served me the other day. Having a scrumptious fish and chips with curry sauce was served to me by some lovely young girls Isabelle and Evie. Can’t say I won’t be going back with excitement!! TOP STUFF

Have been going here for years, the cod has always been cooked to perfection, making it well worth the high price. I dont know if there's a new chef but, the last couple of times I've been (during the last week) the cod has been overcooked which really spoils it. Everything else is good, pleasant staff, just need to get the fish cooking sorted again and it'll be back to five stars from me.

Appreciate the reduction for the poor service. Separately, the fish was hot, a little overcooked and the chips old and cold. Beer was warm. Appears not really designed for dining in.

Nice enough fish and chips but a very small piece of fish, and the fish was dry. Also we had to wait over 20 minutes when we were told to expect a five to ten minute wait. We had the managers special supposedly a regular fish and chips plus side and drink. We received the smallest slither of cod, I hate to think what a small portion would be, a fish finger perhaps? Maybe they gave us the pensioners special by mistake

What can I say.... Great staff, wonderful Plaice, amazing Haddock, mushy peas are warm and tasty.... What's not to like... Seating was clean and comfortable and the restaurant is warm. Epic! Thanks Deepblue... Made my evening

Terrible service between all of them behind the counter didn't know what they were doing ? Such a shame I lived in lymington for over 18yrs 10 yrs ago was an amazing chip shop. Then while waiting to be served to my horror I noticed he/she ? Behind the counter frying fish with 1& half inch acrylic nails on, so I walked straight out and went to the reliable good chipshop in Pennington

If you want a delicious fish and chips, freshly made to order, of a decent size and at reasonable price: then this place is for you.

Smallest portions I have seen anywhere in the UK. Picture is of the cod. £7.95 for a bit smaller than a coke can. Paid for large chips. Had to ask for more because the portion was tiny small like you would get in a kids meal. Complete rip off. Go to the one in Pennington

I been surprise to discover that the cips on the fish&cips was not included on display price and you have to pat separated 3.90 for a potion of regular cips . The food was good but overpriced . Dogs are not allowed in ... and i have to eat outside in rain .

Had pensioners. Found the fish small and chips at best Luke warm. Served on a very small plate. Not worth the price. Service not great but short of staff, should have done just takaway .

Really pleased with the fish & chips we had the other night. The batter was light & crispy, the fish nicely cooked and the chips were hot & crispy too. Nothing was wasted.

Starting off with grimy cutlery wasn’t a great first impression. Then came the fish – tasteless and under-fried. But the worst part was my wife’s fish burger: the bun was literally as hard as a rock. Disappointing experience overall.

Wasn’t interested after we sat down, when I asked the girl at the counter if it was waiter service, she said there’s only two of us, we left as did another man who came in just after. Took our business to Lounges of Lymington. Shame on you

On holiday in Lymington and we wanted fish and chips. The reviews were very good, so we decided to try Deep Blue. I went at around 7.30pm on a Tuesday night and they had closed, though the shop was just open. The young female apologised that they were closing and offered what she had remaining at half price. Fabulous! Thank you. The fish bites were particularly tasty and the curry sauce was great too.

Restaurant was very clean.The batter on our fish was light and delicious. Chips excellent..mushy peas spot on. Two clear plates. 10 out of 10. Staff polite and cheerful too.

Lovely place with friendly staff, for some classic fish and chips; as a bonus, the lunchtime snack box deal for £4.99 was incredible value - I’d certainly go back

The chips were very undercooked and raw in the middle, clearly lots of chips were put into the oil at once which cooled the oil down, honestly terrible. The chips are clearly frozen in. Customer service was pretty poor, staff clearly didn’t want to be there and it showed. Very narrow corridor we all had to wait in and group together.

Short of staff , long wait for take away food, worth the wait though, food very good.

My regular stop at lunchtime - staff are always very friendly, service is swift and the food is tasty. Can't recommend this place enough if you're hankering for a good chippy.

Visited yesterday at 6.30pm for a take out for the 1st time. 3 young staff running the store who all looked like they was called in to work out of no choice and rather be elsewhere. Very slow running and some disconnection between the staff. Waited in queue for 30min to then be told there was no cod left just small sized haddocks. Others in line behind us was unaware and unimpressed when they over heard there was no cod for a fish & chips shop! Some wasted their time queuing and left. So I waited another 25min for the 3 regular chips, sausage and 2 small haddock (1 was senior meal) costing £30. Now I wouldn't mind waiting *55mins* and paying that if it was great tasting but unfortunately the chips was very over cooked and the haddock was over fried. I have never waited that long in any chip shop before yet alone tasting as bad, I won't be visiting again or recommending it. The Manager needs to oversee the service running especially in expected peak times.

Seriously good fish and chips, the best I’ve had in a long time. Cooked fresh to order, batter light and not too oily, chips just perfect! Polite and really good service from the young lady that served us. Would definitely visit again next time we visit Lymington.

Read the mixed reviews but gave it a go. Oh Dear! On a Friday evening at 1850 there was no fish available ,in a fish and chip shop! only fish bites (think chicken nuggets) Staff apologised but I was quite gob smacked. Would not recommend given such a poor experience on a Friday evening one hour forty minutes before closing

Chips were quite tasty but a bit dry, and the service was decent. They had an allergy menu immediately on hand. However, the curry sauce was the runniest I have ever seen. It was so watery! The fish and chips at the Wetherspoons nearby was cheaper and nicer though. The halloumi bites took a long time but were ok.

Very busy but all food hot and served just after cooking, great fish and chips. Worth the wait.

Came here as a family of nine. We all ordered food except for two and then was told not taking anymore orders for at least thirty minutes. Explained we were all together and was told no more orders. They had no cod no curry sauce no mushy peas and terrible service. Ended up asking for a refund as after spending over 100 pounds no point in having the food as part of the family got nothing. As for the staff. Ran by kids and absolutely no management input.

Went with 9 members of our family for fish and chips , no cod , no curry sauce and no mushy peas , after taking my order the incompetent children behind the counter refused to serve my cousin as they needed to stop orders , no reason given !! Meaning two of our 9 group would not have food for 30 minutes . Even after explaining this they just shrugged off our concerns and polite request for them to be served. Completely upset with the service , the attitude and the child like service from under trained staff and no real adult supervision !!! Be warned

DEEP BLUE NOT so great British Fish and Chips Lymington. Trading on its location near the Lymington Quayside, £20 for two tiny portions of less than fresh looking fish… In my opinion

All six of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The staff were very efficient, extremely freindly and really helpful. We would all strongly recommend Deep Blue for a delicious, hot and reasonably price meal.

Tasty fish and chips, often a big queue so get there early!
