Was a pleasant family dinner, very few diners so service was good, found the currys expensive though, clearly no competition.

We had a terrible experience in the restaurant. We were overcharged for almost every item. The staff were arguing amongst themselves all night next to our table. The manager was extremely rude when we queried the bill. Avoid at all costs. They rely on the fact that many otheir customers are holiday makers, so return custom is not required.

We hadn’t booked the restaurant but really fancied a curry. We walked into the restaurant and up to the reception counter/bar. There was a man at the bar opening a bottle of wine, (subsequently found out he is the manager) he didn’t look up we waited about 2 minutes while he struggled with the wine bottle without as much as a smile or “I’ll be with you in a minute, no eye contact, nothing. A waiter appeared after a while, the manager said something and the fella offered us a crap table by the door, saying sit there. We just walked out, I’ve never had such dreadful service. When I said something to the man as we were leaving he said “what, do you want, shall I do a dance for you” Unbelievable.

Worth a visit if you’re looking for good food but don’t expect frills. We usually go to another Indian restaurant in town but fancied a change (and Lal Quilla is a little cheaper). The restaurant is very clean but quite ‘clinical’ looking with weird fluorescent lights that looks like the kind of lighting you have in nightclub bathrooms - haha! The starter we had was ‘butterfly king prawn’ - the menus are quite basic and don’t really explain what exactly each dish is, so we were pleasantly surprised with a huge tempura prawn, but only one. The main courses were really nice and we finished it all. We fancied a small dessert which we would NOT recommend - it came out with a layer of ice on top and was freezer burnt (it was an ice cream pudding thing and was really gritty). Staff were attentive and was nice to have a hot towel after the main course. Recommend for good Bengali / Indian cuisine and perhaps to line the stomach before a night out. Wouldn’t go for a ‘date night’ again. Would definitely use their takeaway service.

I had to take the time to write a review for Lal Quilla as we had amazing food here a few days ago. My husband and I are both vegetarians and we were struggling to choose a restaurant for dinner in Lymington as we thought there was a distinct lack of variety in terms of veggie options. We opted for Lal Quilla knowing that there are often a variety of vegetarian choices at Indian restaurants and we were not disappointed. We started with poppadoms and we thought all of the pickles and chutneys which came with these were excellent. For our mains we picked the Korai Subzi and the Navrattan Korma, listed on the vegetarian dishes and they were both fantastic curries (my favourite was the Korai Subzi - amazing flavours!). We also had Sag Aloo, the Narikal Bath rice and a Peshwari Nan. The service was also good throughout our meal. We live in London and we have eaten a variety of meat and vegetarian curries over the years but we were extremely impressed with the quality of the food we had at Lal Quilla. We highly recommend trying. Compliments to the chef/s on Wednesday night!

Ordered takeaway for 4 people. It arrived slightly ahead of expected time and was piping hot, however the chicken was not nice... it was strangely textured and slightly stringy, if anything it reminded me of turkey rather than chicken! The meat in the chicken tikka massala was nothing like chicken tikka, so it was very much a chicken in tikka massala flavoured sauce, rather than chicken tikka in a massala sauce. Not good. The sauces themselves, korma and massala, were both grainy and a bit unpleasant. Naans were flat and chewy (it was takeaway, it's not easy to get decent naans), boiled rice was OK. Unfortunately overall, possibly the worse curries I can remember having for a loooong time.

It saddens me to leave this review. I've been coming to Lal Quilla's for 15 years. The food is always good and the portions generous. And I gave them a chance to have a better review thanks to those 15 years. But they made 2 errors on our takeaway which ruined our evening and they refused the chance to make up for it. So you should not expect anything better yourself. My wife is loves curry but is very sensitive to chilli spices. She's fed up with Korma all the time. We found a Korai Lamb on the website "available in Hot, Medium and Mild". Via the phone, I ordered her a Mild. I had to argue with the person taking the order for 2-3 minutes to persuade him to cook her a Mild. He wanted to give her a Medium. No way. We were on a boat 20-25 min walk away so we walked to collect and then walked back. When we opened the bag, my wife's curry was labelled HOT. And, boy, was it hot. I rang up to point out the error and was offered a Chicken Makhani "in 10 Minutes" - but we'd have to wait at the marina entrance. Fine. No problem. 20 minutes later, I phoned again. "It's on its way." 50 minutes later, we gave in, walked back to the boat and cooked my wife a meal from ship's stores. Our curries were meanwhile cold and there was no microwave to reheat them. So, about 1 3/4 hour after we should have eaten, we sat down to cold curry and a tinned dinner for one.Now I could have written a poor review straight away but chose not to. I wrote to the manager, explained what happened as asked for his proposal. His reply was "We promise not to do it again." I wrote back saying "Surely not just this???". His reply was "As I said before, we promise not to do it again."The sad thing is that I could have been writing a review about how Lal Quilla made a mistake but pulled out all the stops to put things right. 5 stars. Instead, I'm saying 1 star and advising anyone considering ordering a takeaway to consider this sad tale.

I was staying in Lymington for a break with friends and we booked Lal Quila for our last night’s dinner. Firstly there was a complete violation of social distancing rules - the restaurant was completely full with very little space between the tables. Secondly the service was very poor. Thirdly the vegetarian options were limited. We waited an hour for our starters only to find that the aloo chaat bared no resemblance to the well known Indian street food and being Indians ourselves this was highly disappointing! The manager was extremely rude when we pointed this out and showed him a picture of aloo chaat telling us ‘this is not your home’. He then proceeded to tell us this was not an Indian restaurant and that it was an English restaurant indicating they were only catering for the English community. This was so embarrassing and insulting to for us. We were charged £18.10 for poppadoms, 3 cokes and a lassi drink. Totally unacceptable - we will never visit again nor recommend this to anyone.

Arrived at the table, made to wait another 15 minutes to receive menus, drinks did not arrive for 30 mins and our order wasn't taken for a very long time. We waited around 1 hour 15 minutes for our food. The food was great, but it was ruined by our terrible service. One waiter did care about our experience, but we were only served once by him. The other young waiter would take our drinks order, snort a load of phlegm up his nose, walk away, come back asking what the order was again, snort some more phlegm, and came back a third time. Drinks were warm. This whole experience seriously put us off our food. No one sat at that table had ever experienced such awful service. It was bad. As I said, the food was good but go to Rivazz instead. Miles better than this place. Well what can I say.... We booked a table here for my birthday 10th August after waiting in excess of 1 hour 15 mins for 3 poppadoms we did start questioning whether we had made a bad judgement, despite this the drinks were flowing and we decided to make the best of it.... Although still waiting, we had ordered mains and kept being told they were on their way miraculously the 3 poppadoms arrived! Better late than never! So nearly 2 hours in, we are still waiting for mains after hearing copious complaints from customers at tables as well as customers coming in with issues with their takeaway order the evening was turning more into a comedy of errors and felt vaguely familiar to that of John Cleese's Fawlty Towers lol!!! The night was topped off completely when the main courses arrived with missing items incorrect items and the piste de resistance was a chicken dhansak which was never ordered, it should have been Shashlik chicken but chef didn't know how to make it????!!!!! So after 2 hours they come out with something I've not ordered and try and tell me I have to eat the dhansak!!! Safe to say it was removed from the bill and we laughed uncontrollably as there was nothing else we could do lol.... To sum it up if you could do with a giggle it was worth it for the entertainment factor.... If you want a lovely meal in a great environment do not book here

I was at a celebration dinner with a group of mature business and professional gents. Our dinner took 1 hour 50 minutes to arrive. At approx 1 hour 45 minutes one of my colleagues broached the subject with the front of house manager. The manager was having non of this and stated to my fellow guest that he (we) did not understand what it took to run a restaurant as we all worked behind desks and kept office hours. This was not a wise thing to say to my colleague who runs his own business. Equally my fellow diners also found this offensive. The manager continued his stance and was clearly annoyed with us as a group for "complaining".Our food then arrived which was actually quite good. I was the last of my group to leave, but feeling that some recognition should be made for the good meal, I began to thank the manager.I might have well as been hurling insults at him. He made it perfectly clear that he was not interested and was thoroughly unhappy with us as customers. I hastily retreated and left him to his now almost empty restaurant.I do not know what went wrong at this restaurant on this evening. You can blame poor business performance on many things, but having a go at perfectly reasonable mature people who have waited for going on 2 hours for service is no way to manage. I say this as a business owner myself.Return visit?. Highly unlikely.Should you visit?. Yes, if you want an OK indian.Definately Yes if you want to see a latterday Basil Fawlty in action. Good Luck!.

Restaurant got a lot busier as evening went on. Suggest pre booking if 7pm onwards. Lamb required longer slower cooking. Good varied choice on the menu.

6 of us went for a meal after a days sailing. We were given a table which would have been better for 4, a spare table at the side of us could have been butted up to it (we used this to put some of our side dishes on). The food was OK a little heavy on the food colourings, which isn't necessary.

We visited for a mid-week take-away. Easy to order by telephone and only 30 minutes before our meal as ready for collection. Friendly restaurant staff chatted whilst we were waiting to collect. Good value, tasty meal for a family of five.

Poor service, bad food, rude owner, avoid this at all costs!!!! Our food was nearly two hours late prioritising takeaways (14 in total). Manager was rude including insults towards a friend of mines proffesion! I’m embarrassed as to what this place has become, as a local born and bred this infuriates me!!! I will never go again!!

Was looking forward to a nice Indian family meal , I don’t normally rate badly but we waited 1 hr four the starter that was ok food wise then waited another 45 minutes after finishing the starter for the main meal , the two main prawn dishes were tasteless and the chicken tikka masala was only at best lukewarm , we had a jug of water , two out of the four glasses were dirty , definitely will never go their again , very sub standard to what I’m used to and at a lower price.

We visited this restaurant for the first time and will definitely visit again when in the town. Quick service, tasty dishes. I struggled to pick something from the menu as they all sounded so appealing. Good value for money.

Had a meal here on 6th August 2019 but were not pleased with the food. My husband and I ordered completely different meals but they actually tasted the same. Thepoppadoms were not fresh and the pickles were not very appetising. When asked if we had enjoyed the meal, we said "no". The waiter said he would inform the chef. We were given a complimentary glass of Baileys, presumably as an apology. I would not recommend this restaurant.

We went as a four for supper. The meals we chose were all delicious and quite different from each other. The staff were friendly and willing and very polite. We had been before with a large number and felt the restaurant was better suited to small groups. Delicious and we will go again!

Well where do we start have been a couple of times and had a look at some of the reviews and to be honest I think this Restaurant is better off with out these Morons that give bad reviews we had a couple of days away just to chill out on the Wednesday while we were out on the moor we decided to revisit the Lal Quilla Restaurant in Lymington high street we booked for 7 o'clock we were greeted by the owner and taken to our seats it's very spacious and the decor is lovely my wife had a vegetable Somoza and I had a meat Somoza then came a lovely Korma for my wife and I had a spicy lamb Jalfrazi after we polished that lot off we didn't have any room for puds it was one of the lovely meals we have had and to finish off we were given a couple of Baileys very nice too comes highly recommended not to be missed five stars all round we look forward to going back

My daughter and I ate here and as regular curry eaters we were delighted by the breadth and variety of dishes available. We each had a chicken based curry that were completely different, extremely tasty and plenty of it too. With garlic naans and simple started we were more than happy. And full. We were well looked after by the staff too. Highly recommended.

Terrible service. We booked a table and when we turned up were told to wait "over there." Fifteen minutes later we were eventually given a table. After we sat down we had napkins and cutlery literally thrown on the table in our general direction Our custom was so obviously a chore to the head waiter we got up and left, never to return.

This was my favourite place for some years. But, this meal (an the last few) have been really disappointing. Plus, the service was slow and not too friendly. Won't be in a rush to go again. Food wasn't dreadful, but not great like it used to be.

We visited this restaurant couple of months ago , we kindly asked if we could bring our small well behaved dog in , they kindly agreed and we all all had a fabulous meal , unfortunately we tried to make a booking Sunday 20th of January for a table of 8 , again with our small well behaved dog and was a clear no ! I said we were here a couple of months ago and he said they are new owners ?? True ? Empty restaurant , clearly didn’t need the custom! We travelled up the high street and had a fabulous meal at rivazz ! Our new favourite

Went for a day trip to Lymington Market and checked out this place at the bottom of the hill. Took note of lunch serving times, and decided to come back later. Walked up and down the hill again, and arrived for lunch at 1.15 (this on a Saturday). Told they had finished serving and were closed. No apology. Pretty aggressive actually. Needless to say, we will give this a wide berth in future which is a shame as the place looked promising and other reviews sounded good. Their loss - plenty of good eating options in Lymington including another good Indian further up the hill.

I’m sad to see some recent poor reviews as we have been coming to this restaurant on and off for as long as it’s been open and always loved it. We no longer live in the UK but always have a meal here when we visit and we are always remembered by the owner and the food has always been fabulous. Our meal last night with family was great as usual and the restaurant was full but have to admit there were some service issues with what appeared to be new staff. Hopefully these issues will be resolved ASAP.
