i had an awful experience in this cafe from the passive aggressive workers behind the counter to the waitress slamming my drink down on the table. its safe to say have not been made to feel welcome to return and i will not be coming back. i recommend subway down the road as it is the exact same and more welcoming.
Average at best. £12.50 for 4 prawns on skewers as a sharing plate. The Moroccan chicken skewers with Cous Cous was below par and although presented relatively well it did not lend itself to the so called exciting dishes as advertised! The menu choices are not good and quite frankly sparse. The choice of desserts was disheartening, although reasonably priced. The drinks are expensive £3.50 for a half of Coke and £10 for a glass of wine is quite honestly too much. The Good friendly service from the front of house staff can’t be faulted.
Average food at an above average price. Will definitely NOT be going back.
We ordered a pre-Christmas takeaway, first time visitors! It was delicious! The sag aloo is really good. The teen loved the korma and said it was the best they’d had for ages. We loved the paneer and the dupiaza.
A lovely meal, we’ll definitely order again!
To be honest, there isn't a great deal of choice for takeaway fish & chips on Ventnor seafront so when I saw the 4.5 star feedback rating for Golden Sands, I trusted that this must be good - how wrong was I?
The member of staff was lovely and very chatty, and when she asked me to come back in 15 minutes as 'we are so busy', I didn't think twice. However, I did not think that the 15 minutes would be needed to cook horrible FROZEN fish and OVEN chips. I'm really no snob when it comes to food but when I'm being asked to pay over £13.00 for the pleasure of this rubbish, I had to write this review to help other people.
One recommendation - which i will also write a review for is Ocean View Fish & Chips. Admittedly not on the seafront, but absolutely 1000% better and a lot cheaper, if you can find your way up the winding streets of lovely Ventnor!
An excellent lunch with everything just perfect. I have been looking for a pub offering roast meals with genuine roast potatoes, not those that have been boiled and deep fried and taste nothing like a real roastie. This is is the place for the genuine article!
Everything about the meal was perfect. Huge homemade Yorkshire puddings, beautifully cooked turkey, carrots amazing with a hint of star anise and mustard cream leeks too. It is so nice to be offered vegetables that have been prepared to be a treat in their own right and not just a sidekick to the main component of the dish.
My partner enjoyed a jerk chicken burger which he loved, accompanied by a truly delectable salad which was a bit different with cashew nuts etc. A tribute to the culinary skills of the chef in the kitchen who must be congratulated for turning good, honest and basic ingredients into a mouthwatering delight.
A nice peaceful atmosphere and excellent service means as locals, we will also now be regulars. There is nothing like a well kept cellar and a skilled chef to tempt us back.
Visited for Sunday lunch, v friendly meet and greet, limited menu, we ate lamb and beef roast dinners, well presented, v tasty and large portions, served with good wine and Loweswater Gold beer.
Another excellent lunch, many thanks, we will return.
Friendly for sure. Good sized breakfast but feel the sausages could be of a better quality as it let the meal down. I couldn't eat them as they were not meaty and felt rubbery.
My husband booked a surprise lunch for me for a Mother's Day treat. We visited 29.3.25 with our daughter.
From the moment we arrived, to the moment we left, we were looked after by a warm friendly welcoming team. I didn't get the name of our waitress but she was a delight and so attentive.
We've been to both Smoking Lobsters before and the food was fantastic. Our lunch yesterday was exceptional; the flavours were complete melt in your mouth close your eyes joy! From the Japanese milk bread to the gurnard with red Thai sauce to the robata steak and pecan tart, everything I ate was sublime. The high level of skill of the chef and his team was evident in every dish.
Martini cocktail 👌
We will be returning!
This place is a real gem. Super location with great western Solent views, very warm welcome, flexibility on eg sandwich filling & very reasonable pricing. What's not to like!
Adjacent parking & a very short walk to the Fort Victoria attractions. Several obviously regular locals there when we called. Dogs welcome.
We came to visit the isle of white over the bank holiday week as the weather was so lovely and searched the cafes we wanted to visit prior to our trip. Lilly’s did not disappoint on the cake front!! They had a good variety even on a super busy day and they were delicious. The wait time was a little while but due to the amount of customers they had we didn’t mind and took our takeaway to have by the seafront (cake with a view) great customer service throughout and nice music.
The variation in quality makes it hard to give 5*. Normally the meal is scrumptious but today it was all overcooked, I suspect chips were cooked again.
Really impressed with this place, great deal on cocktails from 4 to 7pm 2 for 1 cocktails, I had jungle juice and long island ice tea both were lovley. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice & beans, the chicken was two big leg's and it was juicy and tender, the sauce had a mild kick not to spicy and really flavourful, decent portion size filled my boots. Great service too very friendly. Would definitely recommend on an evening out!
