Makkie's pizza in Isle of Wight

Great oven baked pizzas! I got to try a new vegetarian pizza and can really recommend it (i.a. artichoke, pine nuts, sultanas). The owner and pizza baker is also super kind.

Great pizza, quick service and attentive. Just what we needed after a day at the beach!

Really friendly, and very helpful staff - and even more importantly, very nicely made pizza, with all the right variations of toppings, and good value for money - if you're looking for a decent pizza and you're in the vicinity, then this is the right place to visit!

We were refused to sit and have our dinner here more then 1 hour before the closing time, because they didn't want to cook for 7 seven people. Absolutely awful service.

The pizza is great. But, my days, it is the most inefficient setup you’ve ever come across. One person making pizza, three standing around doing not a lot (not their fault). Order a chicken pizza now and it might arrive within 1-2 working days

An unexpected pleasure, we came in here as the Italian across the road were not servicing pizza, and so glad we did. A great meat feast and vegetarian pizza made fresh. Although it looks like a take away, we sat in and had a bottle of wine. Well worth a visit and great value for money

Staff very helpful and friendly, we popped into the restaurant for a couple of takeaway pizzas tonight with our dog, we had the Meat Feast and Veggie pizza, both were absolutely delicious. Freshly made, generous toppings on a lovely stone baked base. Sooooo much better than the chain style pizzas !!

A lovely pizza restaurant in Shanklin and the chef is so friend and great at her work.

As a family of four, we came in when only a few people were already in the restaurant. We ordered drinks which came up smaller than expected and were not as well described on the menu as they could have been (ie. whether in a small, medium or large glass or other sizing). Then once we ordered, the service was very slow with very little communication as to the status of the meals nor attentiveness throughout. After a long waiting period, we had to ask for an update and eventhough the staff and chef were no distance apart they could not provide an estimated time of serving and gave us a poor reply regardless. However, eventually when the food came up, it was delicious aside from the blue cheese salad which caused one of our family to feel very unwell to the point of nearly being sick. I hope that this is an isolated case but we will not be returning after this experience.

This is a genuine post. This pizza place is the best on the island, a real gem of a place.The pizza maker is warm, genuine and a really gracious person. My wife and mother-law raved about the pizza- and they are genuine food connoisseurs. Finally good place to eat!

I can’t say enough to explain how great the pizza and service was! Finally, great food!

The pizza was alright but took 45 minutes to arrive and was average priced the waitress was helpful and tried to help us as much as she could but this was overshadowed by the poor management.

Best pizza in shanklin, proper stone bake oven, and friendly staff, very good value for money when you consider the competition, here a proper pizza for 12£ whereas the 2 kebab shops cost more, and the domino's which is mass produced rubbish, I will be eating here more often. Called ahead for a takeout order and was told they were not accepting takeout orders because the dining room was too full. Decided to make a reservation to eat in. After a 25 minute drive to arrive there, we see the dining room is practically empty (1 table) so asked if we could place a takeout order and they said yes. At this point we'd have to waste another 20+ minutes waiting for the order to be ready! There was only 1 lady making the food (owner/manager) and the other 3 standing around. We wanted to order a spaghetti to take away but were told they don't do it, even though it is clearly marked on the takeaway menu. So we ordered 4 pizzas. One pepperoni with mushroom and they forgot the pepperoni. 2 others were fine. 4th was vegetarian with no cheese and veggies were raw. This place seemed like a beginner's staff, no experience, unable to handle multiple orders on a Friday night in the middle of summer! They offered £1 off due to forgotten pepperoni but I took a free can of 7up instead. And had to ask for the 2 other drinks we ordered. No professionalism and no customer service. Pizzas were tasty at least, but I would not recommend going here at all! Find another pizza place!

Great to watch the pizzas being made and cooked in the pizza oven. Probably the best pizza I've had in a while, tasted amazing and perfect crust. Wait wasn't too long which was great, had 2 hungry kids to feed and the pizza went down a treat

food is nice and well priced however the wait for the food was nearly an hour as the one chef they had was training a new chef. Would have been nice if that had been communicated to us as the only reason we found out is because it was said to a table who were seated after us. Not a big deal as we weren’t in a rush but a heads up wouldn’t have gone a miss.

Turned up without booking, very good service, very good pizza, even better pasta, kid friendly, even threw in ice-cream for our boys even though there's officially no dessert menu. Would highly recommend.

We dined in last night, had the prawns and calamari for starters and couldn't believe how amazing they tasted, for mains we had the seafood spaghetti and Di paola spaghetti and again absolutely delicious couldn't fault any of the dishes. Fantastic service and was great to be able to see and smell your food being cooked close by. Definitely will be visiting again.

Very nice pizzas and friendly family-run business. I ordered pizzas for collection and they were perfect timed and hot when I arrived. Good prices and values, we had 3 pizzas from there and all were consistently delicious. Side coleslaw was a large serving and very nice. Keep up the good work.

Highly recommended food was so beautifully cooked to a very high standard really like that it's cooked in a real pizza oven and the owner even bought out a fan to cool up down as it's been a really hot lately also so kind and polite towards us definitely going again definitely worth going for a full Italian experience thanks again guys !!!!!!😃😃😃😃

Do not recommend! Came to eat here as we enjoyed it before, however the whole experience was terrible this time. The waitress was reluctant to let us sit in and eat, didn't provide menus and instead asked "what you want, pizza?". She also had her young child with her, who instantly come to our table and pushed my belongings off the chair so he could sit with us. He then was walking all over the tables and she was running around after him trying to feed him spaghetti. We were the only people in there which made the whole thing really uncomfortable, it felt more like we were in their living room. The food was nice, but doesn't make up for the fact that everything else was horrible. Also find it so disgusting that the waitress had no shoes on and was walking around in grubby socks while serving us.

Fantastic Pizza. The chef took extra care to ask how to make pizza customised for us and complimented with a cheese pizza for my son. All three Pizzas were too good and the group finished it all including the children.

Tried to call them for a takeaway no answer , no way to tell if open or closed nothing online maybe not as good as others suggest that's why closed will not try again

I went to try this place tonight & it was shut! It was meant to be open. Was looking forward to this. No notification on line or on the door.

Ordered two take away pizzas,one tuna and sweetcorn & Hawaiian £18.50.Sadly these aren't Napoli pizzas, as no decent Italian would serve you a badly burnt pizza!Inedible because both underneath were so badly burnt,that all we could taste it's the ash!Cremated mess I would call!As we were leaving the next day,we couldn't be bothered to walk back to return these.

Enjoyed the pizza, and friendly staff. We were able to be seated for 5 in a busy August 2021 without booking but restaurant was busy.

i am not happy. i asked for a ham and chicken pizza and when it came, it came with a variety of peppers, onions and mushrooms on it; which i did not ask for.

Came by chance as no other restaurant had tables and was pleasantly surprised. Both pizza and pasta were delicious 😋

Simple sauce on pasta dish. Needed seasoning but was good. Pizza base was awesome. Sauce and toppings were tasty. All round food was good. Very hot in the afternoon, but staff tried to make customers feel comfortable with fans. Very timid waiter, suppose better than a loud pushy waiter.

Great Pizza’s and Pasta dishes at a very reasonable price. Friendly staff and very clean. Don’t expect fancy’s and frills, but the food is superb. A little hidden gem.

This place is a disgrace, they just refused us to enter and serve , a couple with a baby, with the reason that babies cry and well you can’t come in… SHAME ON YOU !!!!

Fantastic pizza with great dough and a wide range of toppings. We had the Greek Style Pizza a Pepperoni Pizza and a capresi salad. Generous portions, friendly service and beautifully cooked pizza.

Here in Shanklin and just had a pizza - if you are a pizza lover then look no further. We had the Meat Feast and the Vesuvius, both excellent. If you’re visiting then don’t miss the chance, good honest proper pizza.

We ordered veg n chicken pizza for takeaway which were amazing. Pizzas tasted very fresh and tasty. The chef was kind to consider our request of chili oil n chili flakes to go. Highly recommended.

Delicious and freshly made pizza and pasta; staff are very friendly and helpful. Kids loved it as much as we did. We went back the next night which we really enjoyed. It's worth booking though😍

Amazing pizza! If you’re visiting the IOW and are staying in Shanklin, I highly recommend it. It’s cooked in a proper pizza oven and the price is very reasonable. I like that it’s not in any way oily or stodgy like some pizzas.

We went to Mackie's by accident (I have to be honest 😊). We had looked at Amicis (which is directly opposite Mackie's) the night before, and decided to go to Amicis. However we didn't book and Amicis were full, we crossed the road to Mackie's and they could fit us in. It was very very good food. We shared a very tasty Greek salad (very authentic). Main course two pizzas which were hand thrown (as in Italy with the chef cooking in full view of the customers), very good base and plenty of topping. We drank a reasonably priced Shiraz, that was surprisingly good. The staff were friendly and helpful. We saw the chef come from behind the counter to help a disabled lady in to the restaurant. Mackie's is much cheaper than Amicis and we highly recommend it.

Pizza, pasta, Greek salad and fries. All really tasty!

On the strength of past reviews, we looked forward to our Pizzas. Two vegetarian and a child's margarita. Sadly the vegetarians were both over cooked (spot blackening all over). This spoiled our enjoyment. A shame as the ingredients were of high quality and generously applied.

Every time we holiday on the isle of wight we make sure we eat here. Amazing food, friendly, helpful staff. Coming over end of august hoping you are open

I’ve read reviews on here before I made an order. I’ve ordered pizzas and beef burgers. All food was too salty. I didn’t like look and taste of this food. You can’t compare these pizzas with Italian ones if you ever tried them. I can’t recommend this place. I’m disappointed.

Just had a fantastic meal here. Great friendly service. Even the chef got involved and came over to clear plates and offer desert. The quality of the food in flavour, presentation and quantity was excellent. We had a seafood pasta, a meaty pizza, a chicken salad, a mozzarella tomato basil and balsamic salad plus Garlic Bread pizza to share... and of course we had to do a doggy bag. 10/10 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Easy to get a table on a Saturday evening. Clean, simple decor. My family appreciated how attentive the waiter was. Pizza was very tasty and good value. Only minus is that we didn't try any other fished beyond pizza - the spaghetti Makkie looked really good. I would also have preferred a better beer selection.

Delicious handmade stone baked pizzas made to order by a fantastic chef. Not only was the food and atmosphere wonderful but the chef wowed us as he spun the pizza in the air in the traditional manner. To top it off the prices are reasonable and if you don't feel like pizza you can choose pasta salad or several other items all equally nice. And the deserts will blow your socks off!

Absolutely fantastic! Best pizza my wife and I have ever had. In our experience we have found stonebaked pizza to have a soggy top or soggy base, that's not the case here. For lack of a better word it was amazing. Highly recommend it. Lovely sit in area and staff were very friendly.
