Lovely place shame about the beer prices. Went in the other day to get served no staff so I walked out don't think I will be going in there again lost my custom saved money which is good for me.

Lovely food freshly prepared. Homemade soup delicious and served with great bread. Ham egg and chips well cooked but actual ham a disappointment. Generous portions and staff lovely and efficient

A cracking pub serving freshly preppared food in a friendly environment. The beer garden provided a sheltered sun trap for lunch times and early afternoons. Two real-ales on pump and a good variety of drinks in tap. Cocktails available also, make this a popular destination. The food we ordered arrived promptly and was hot and fresh, and good sized portions for the price. Keep an eye out for their specials on each day. The kitchen appeared to be closed between 3-5 in the afternoon to factor in for your visit. Al topped of with friendly helpful service by the staff, we'll be back.

Friendly pub with live music at weekends. This has now become my favorite pub to visit, really good atmosphere and good prices on house doubles. The owners deserve the business they get as they are constantly providing what the customers want.great deals on meals Inc steak Friday!

A nice traditional pub.. We didn't eat.. Though I can't say anything about the food.. We had a nice shandy to cool off after shopping in the hight street.. The staff where very friendly.. And the Shandy nice and cold.. The interior is very traditional for the pub.. Like I remember it when I was young and going in there for a pint or two back in the late 80s.. I would return anytime again if I could.

The food was so good here we ate in the same place twice, in 2 days. Sea pups on the menu, ie cod bites and messy chips were lovely. Really accommodating although really full but lovely staff. I will be back !

Play with my band island vibe in the pub several times now. Always a great night and the crowd and staff are very welcoming, I can’t review the food yet as I haven’t eaten there yet but will do soon. Deffo recommend this place

We visited The Castle after walking into Newport from the IOW festival on the Friday lunchtime. So glad that we did, lunch was fantastic, and a lovely few pints of thatcher haze on draught too! Service and standards were brilliant, especially considering that the pub was very busy with locals and many festival go-ers too. If you're ever in Isle of Wight, and looking for a lovely independent pub for food and decent beer, look no further. We will definitely be back when we're back for next years festival! Brilliant.

Friendly staff, good beer, clean, prompt service , Sunday lunch was excellent and fantastic value. Would absolutely recommend !

Great food at a good price, Mon-Thurs 2 lightbite meals for £12 and a steak special on Fridays, 6oz Rump with trimmings for £7.75, also recommended their "pie of the day" packed with meat, haven't finished it yet but enjoy trying.

Bad food - watery spicy brown sludge passed on as beef curry. Burned dry burgers, fish and chips not fresh. Do not recommend for food, very disappointing

Came here for food and wow it did not disappoint at all. I had the light bite lasagne with garlic bread which was absolutely beautiful, plenty of cheese and the cheese pull, Wow! My partner and his son had the chicken and bacon pie and they said it was beautiful and ate every last bit. My daughter had the light bite sausage and mash and she was happy as it is her favourite meal and she really enjoyed it. Thank you for some amazing food and hopefully we will be back when we come to the island 😁😁😁😁

Best Lamb roast dinner on the Isle of wight.

Lovely historic pub and absolutely well worth seeking out. The food is simply FANTASTIC. I chose the lasagne from the great choice of dishes available on the menu. I have to say that this was the best lasagna that I have ever eaten (and I have had a lot in my time 😄) . The staff were wonderful and very friendly. Please note that the Castle Inn is dog friendly. 👍 If you get the chance, do visit the Castle Inn.ypu will not be disappointed.

Food was good, and service was very good. There was a bit of loud effin & jeffin at the bar, which doesn't seem appropriate given that it's a family inn. Kids can hear that stuff.

Popped in after having dinner in Newport. The place was very lively and the music was great. Very good atmosphere

the castle is a very friendly pub that is great for meeting with family and close friends. they often have events going on which spike peoples interest, and bands playing (they always pick very good entertainment). the atmosphere is lovely, everyone who goes in there is very similar minded, and it is a nice change from some of the other pubs in newport.

We visited 3 times whilst walking the coast path, each time my partner and I had a different meal and all were superb. Also has my favourite Belgium Blue Moon ale. Their Celtic Crunch icecream is to die for. Our Border Collie, 'Baz', was also made welcome. As was the German Sheppard/Collie cross, 'Woody'.

It's a very busy pub good atmosphere and you don't wait too long for your food which is always hot. Prices are reasonable and good quality meals.

I was walking Our dogs home and walked towards the Castle Inn, looked at the Menu board and decided that this was for us.Went inside to a nice warm greeting, ordered a Sunday Roast and a pint and neither disappointed me.Absolutely delicious.Staff were very attentive to the dogs and they thoroughly enjoyed treats given to them. Thanks to the Castle Inn and staff for a lovely Sunday roast.

Only popped in for a cheeky P&P 🤪, Busy inside with food, beer garden quiet enough for this Northern Lass visiting the IOW, and warm enough to catch a few rays. Nice place

Great boozer with a very unique interior. Large selection of ales and beers to choose from.

Went in for a mid week girls night. Lovely food, we were not rushed at all and locals very friendly.

We had the roast, the meat, Yorkshire pudding, potatoes and gravy were lovely, but we all thought the veg could have been cooked a little bit more, but would go back again.

This is a great pub with a good old pub vibe. The staff that work there really make the place! This pub has so much history behind it and is a nice place to sit, drink and socialise. There is a large outside area that you wouldn't really know about from the outside, it's a very nicely lit space. The food always looks very nice, and is reasonably priced, I have had the nacho bowl many times, and have enjoyed it every time.

Great place to have a pub dinner

Overall I love to eat here. I've never felt discriminated against. The steak 6oz is good. I recently got one undercooked - was supposed to be medium rare- but the staff fixed it and were accommodating and welcoming. I have to recommend the FISH PIE. It's a wonderful seafood dish served piping hot with potato on top and bread and butter. It's my Go-to place to eat

Well if you appreciate a historic pub kept as it should be with the booths, fireplace, this is a good choice. I went on a Friday when they were having a stake meal night and I enjoyed it, would go again. It has a good mix of gender and age of customers and fron nine pm live music,. A well attended venue, popular with the locals.

Sat in the rear garden and had a drink in the sun a few weekends ago. There were humming bird moths in the garden, what a rare treat.

The food was disgusting very cold couldn’t eat it chicken was rock hard had also found a hair in it waitress just shrugged her shoulders. Avoid.

Lovely old pub in the centre of Newport, went in looking for something small for lunch. Friendly, quiet and dogs allowed. Lovely courgette soup and the yummiest cheesy chips - cheese all the way through and crispy fluffy chips. Plenty of other options on the menu with a selection for gluten free, vegetarian and vegan. Would go again.

Very friendly reception, booked last minute. Six of us, we all enjoyed our food. Had to park in the long stay carpark and walk just a short distance.

I have been visiting the castle as a regular for years. They pour a fantastic pint, however on 2 occasions I have brought a concerning issue politely twice to the manger & bar staff that I am of ethnic background i find it very uncomfortable as a customer that on thier chalk boards that just appear on the table that we are currently sat at They stipulated this table (reserved for locals) On politely questing the bar staff highlighting this sign faced in my direction i suggested that should be written on a professional level, the name of the person that has booked, or use words more appropriate words as, this table is booked for regulars or as most establishments use is just reserved? I left the sign on the bar and got a negative and defensive customer response from all the bar staff with no apologies or high level of customer service that I expected. On coming back from my visit from the toilet I was shocked to discover bar staff had placed the same sign facing my direction at were I was sat ( reserved for locals ) I placed that sign on a chair ajencent, as I felt it was a form of intimidatedation and prejudice towards me. The bar staff were fast to come over in force to our table were we were quietly sat and said they would like us to leave while thier local customers were then jumping in on the civilised conversion using discrimitory overtones, stating this is our table, we are local " this is our table for locals" I do not beilve the castle deliberately intended for this situation to be created but it also could have been avoided. I don't believe the castle value customer service or address highlighted facts about promoting inclusion and equality or constructive advice about valuing all customers regaless of being local. The inability of castle staff to use descrecesion and provide a high level of service, actually instigated more locals to come round our table making us feel very uncomfortable, that could have been easily avoided with the correct level of care.

Old fashioned pub with good food and pleasant staff. Will definitely go back.

Meet some friends for lunch they had the lught bit for two great values, and both enjoyed their meals. I went for the ham egg and chips and wasn't disappointed. When it turned up, there were three big slices of ham, two fried eggs with chips and peas, a big meal even for a big eater like myself, great value alround and service to match, will definitely go back agian for lunch .

Nice food, nice atmosphere, lovely staff. Some great deals for lunch just make sure to reserve if you want a nice spot by the window or the fire as they can get quite busy!

A lovely old style pub. With flagstone floors and old style beam ceilings. The food is delicious, and on Saturday nights, you are entertained with live music. Certainly worth a visit 😊

Just had a quality, filling main meal at this historic lovely pub. Always good friendly, efficient service and nice friendly locals. Mondays good value for money, all main courses half price ! Including the Steaks, had a Steak meal last week . 😉👍🍷
