The Strawberry Thatch in Isle of Wight

If you go to the Isle of Wight you have to visit the lovely late night Donut Hut. It is perfect for a visit after a visit to the Chine. The litte huts have twinkly lights creating a magical atmosphere after dark. The pancakes are especially great. Highly recommended.

What a fantastic place this is - pure indulgence! Manned and owned by a very pleasant entrepreneur with a wicked sense of humour, there is a wonderful selection of hot and cold drinks and sweet dessert foods. When you need that ‘something special’ after-dinner repast, look no further than the Donut Hut. Great service, excellent products, a broad choice and always served freshly made. Plenty of covered seating too so you can eat to your heart’s delight. And then go back and order some more. Highly recommend venue.

A lovely spot for a hot drink, donuts, crepes etc. A simple place but very attentive staff. Good value for money and plenty of seats with cover from the rain or sun. Donuts smelt lovely!

We always go there while on holiday and they are always so good until today! Today it wasn’t owner who was making, it was a girl who we never seen before and the donuts were awful they were sour and inedible… never had sour donuts before… put us off going there again 😖

Ordered a crepe whilst visiting the area with Nutella abd banana. Great seating area, tasty treat. The place was great for kids with slushy machines, ice cream and donuts.

The best donuts ever! Arthur and his wee family couldn’t do enough for us. We practically visited every night for a week. Don’t leave the island without trying the Donut Sundae. We will be back x

First place to visit on arrival in Shanklin. Hot doughnuts cooked to order by very friendly staff. Delicious especially when followed by a pint in the Crab !!

Fresh hot donuts, crepes, ice creams, slush puppies…. all with a variety flavours and toppings. What’s not to like? Lovely friendly staff.

This place is situated right next to the car park in the centre of Shanklin Old Village and is well worth a visit for a tasty treat while wandering the area. We had the delicious freshly made donuts, sat in one of the covered seating areas and washed it down them down with some hot coffee on a cool day. They do so much more than just donuts - crepes, ice cream, ice cream sundaes and a slush drink making facility that looked interesting. There is outside seating too and the staff are very friendly.

A lovely freshly made crepe... sweet and sour... lemon and sugar... put me on for the day ahead... thank you very very much!

The pancakes are really difficult to cut with a knife, the most rubbery, thick creations I've ever seen. (although not as thick as the doorstop pancakes my grandma made) Nothing to cut up food with, so our two year old had to makedo with cutlery I 'borrowed' from the pub around the corner. Unfriendly notice on the slushies. "No tasting, no refills". Sundaes are very ordinary. Donuts were great, freshly made to order. Altogether, £35 for a family snack we won't be returning to.

We tried to walk passed but the smell of fresh doughnuts just drew us in and we were not disappointed. You order and then wait for your doughnuts to be cooked. Plenty of sugar applied. And they were fantastic.

We visited here a couple of evenings during the half term. Everything is cooked freshly and is really nice. We had a selection of things during our visits from the donuts the crêpes and sundaes. The last of our visits however we had 2 lots of donuts a sundae and a crêpe the donuts we were given forks to eat with so we asked for an Extra fork for the crêpe but was told by the lad behind the counter we could not have another fork as we had already had 2 and they couldn't give us any more which I find highly bizzare as they are plastic single use and you throw them in the bin when finished. Just beware of this rule especially if you aren't visiting with your close family you will have to share the forks especially in covid times its not really Ideal.

This is a fantastic place to visit, open all weathers as they have some shelters to sit in. The owners are lovely and the food is delicious. We stayed nearby and visited 4 times as we loved sitting in the huts amidst all the lights with the warm food watching the weather and the world go by. Don't miss this great place if you visit the Island

Delicious donuts cooked in front of you. Various flavours but my favourite was cinnamon and sugar. Also sell vegan icecream.

A fantastic little place that does fresh donuts, crepes and icecream creations. Hot n cold drinks. Has little shelters for if weather too sunny or weather not good. Came yestrrday and back today!

The donuts were freshly cooked and served hot with great coffee. The staff were very welcoming and it was certainly 'service with a smile'

The speciality donuts were warm and very tasty. I also liked the outdoor booths. Worth a visit if you need a sweet fix!

We love this little venue in Shanklin’s old town. A quirky little place selling a variety of sweet treats and a slushie bar. Both are a real hit with our little girl. The donuts are great value and you can’t beat the speciality donuts. Sugary ones won’t be the same again. Definitely worth a visit, but note all seating is outside, although there are a few covered areas.

The food is absolutely delicious at this place and is a great family friendly for a sit down and sweet treats. However there is an unfortunate rude member of staff who ruins the warm environment. Her attitude towards me and my friends was appalling, she argued when I simply asked for some knives and folks, when the lovely male owner a couple of nights ago, didn’t have a problem with it at all. I was also rejected the order that I was get (kinder bueno doughnuts with strawberries as an extra) by this member of staff. She also sighed, rolled her eyes at me and walked away whilst I was speaking to her. I do not recommend coming when she is working. She is tall with a colourful hair style with a fringe.Her name is Emily

We visited here on a Friday evening and it was fairly busy. Most things are made to order so you do have a little wait but not too long. We had some donuts and crepes and all were really nice and freshly prepared It's really nice that somewhere is open late in Shanklin to get a sweet treat and coffee as most places close early. Definitely worth a visit and we will be back in October when next on the island.

The only thing I would criticise them for is their spelling of the word doughnut!!! Freshly made, loads of sugar, lovely.

Really great food and a lovely little seating area to have the best deserts out there. 100% recommend the Nutella crepe (pictured)!!

Me and my boyfriend ate here several times on holiday. It was such a nice hidden gem! the crepes were amazing and my boyfriend loved the after 8 mint sundae. sadly our trip wasn’t long enough to try the whole menu but will definitely be back! lovely staff as well

Love this place! We ate here twice while we were on holiday on IOW even though it was a 20 minute drive away from our hotel!We ate at a restaurant and came here for dessert! Best crepes and donuts...all freshly prepared! Good selection of slush drink flavours too! Nice owners and nice atmosphere!

We visited here on 2 different nights during our stay and the food is really lovely. We had a selection of things over the 2 nights we had donuts with Nutella and after 8 sundae and also had the deluxe sundae and crepes the one with white chocolate was really very good. All is made fresh in front of you. They have little huts where you can eat along with tables out in the open or just takeaway. Staff were really nice too. We don't believe review that the cat is vicious it seems really friendly. Its really refreshing to see somewhere open in Shanklin till later than 6pm where you can get a coffee and a treat. We really hope that people support this business staying open until later in the evenings they deserve to be a success. We will be back again next year and definitely be visiting here.

When we go out to PAY to eat and drink at your shop we don't expect for your vicious cat to scratch up our 2 year old. My little boy was minding his own business, your cat came up to him and wanted his straw. How dare you say a 2 year old under close supervision by parents antagonised your cat, when your cat came over to us! What kind of establishment lets their pet roam around hurting customers children?! Very cross with your response to the incident and will be sharing with friends and family!

I visit here very often either by myself or with friends/family and always have a fantastic experience. The food is a sweet tooth's dream and provides fun entertainment with a football table and it's own mini golf course!The lovely people running it are always friendly and helpful and of course, their little four-legged mascot of a cat is always a treasure to spot prancing around the cafe freely.

On a dismal rainy day, what a little gem this was. Food was amazing, staff polite, friendly and happy to serve us. Very happy and full of chocolate goodness :)

Strawberry thatch is a lovely place to sit with a drink or ice cream. The donuts are excellent, and during our recent visit to the Island we would often go there to have dessert of home made donuts or crepes the evening. The couple who own the cafe are lovely and they have the most adorable kitten who spends most of his time exploring and playing. We would highly recommend this place and cant wait to go back.

We visited here with our dog and 6 month old kitten after messaging the owners on Facebook to check it was ok to bring them along. The slushes were great, cinnamon sugar donuts were delicious and the kinder bueno crepe was amazing! We met Figaro who was adorable and the owners came out to say hello to our dog and kitten. Had a lovely visit and would definitely return when we’re next in the IOW.

What a gem of a place been to shanklin many times on holiday and this is either shut or not welcoming but it’s been taken over and they have transformed the place. Worth a visit if your in the old village and the donuts are lovely too.

The most incredible donuts we came one evening the owners are lovely and there cat definitely must go, keep up the hard work. A group of people were ever so rude to the young girl, good luck and all the best See you next year

Spent a pleasant afternoon having hot fresh donuts & tea here while waiting for son to return from shopping who then had his favourite lemon & lime slush! Smashing taste in music.

I was looking forward to afternoon tea after seeing the recommendations and must admit the food looked delicious. We were given a table and menus and waited for someone to take our order. After 20 minutes, I finally caught the waitress's eye as she cleared some tables and she said she would be right with us. Another 15 minutes passed during which the party on the table next to us walked out because of the lack of service and I noticed that the waitress was back to clearing tables. 45 minutes after arriving we left very disappointed and hungry.

Popped in to see what all the fuss was about, Charming young man serving at the time. there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy your food and drink, and there are lots of options for the kiddies as well. We ordered coffee and donuts and enjoyed it all. There are other options available but as this was our last day we were unable to try anything else.Coffee was hot and as ordered, donuts were made to order and various toppings were offered. everything was tasty and we will certainly call again on our return.

Stumbled upon this place completely by accident. A bit of late night excitement for adults and kids alike and a well received summer holiday memory. We only purchased donuts but they were made fresh in front of us by a friendly and accommodating staff member. Would definitely visit again:)

Oh, this is such a cute place to have an ice cream, doughnuts or just a coffee. Little individual 'shacks' you can sit in or just sit in the garden area. Like stepping back in time. Music in the background not loud. Wishing you every success.

We bumped into this delightful place after visiting the Shanklin Chine in the dark. We had freshly made, piping hot donuts in a vibrantly lit booth, with excellent tracks playing in the background. We loved it so much, we went back for more donuts the next day.

Great selection of ice creams and drinks etc. We went for a banoffee ice cream and it was delicious 😋

Variety of snacks and treats to choose from and open late which was lovely as could stop for something on the way to the car park after a nice evening.The lady who served us (9.15pm wednesday 21st august) was SO kind to my little boy who ordered his candyfloss; answering his questions and being generally lovely, thank you.My parents had ice creams from there earlier in the afternoon which were delicious apparently - will be back again :)

Bargain think an ice cream was either £2 or £2.50 but everyone gets a free chocolate added to their cone and the scoop of ice cream is a full size scoop unlike some places give out! Perfect for a hot summer's day!

Right in the corner between pubs, restaurants, High Street and Beach. Ice creams and donuts, music and little beach hut type booths for you to sit in if it chilly or raining. Hot drinks and light food available too.

Stopped in here while walking the main street and Shanklin. They not only have great shakes and slushies and other sweets but they’ll make fresh donuts for you while you wait.

When we come on holiday to the island twice a year we come to the strawberry thatch almost every day. The food is delicious and the cheesecake is amazing! the lady who runs the place is really friendly and it's one of our favourite places to have a cake stop on the island.

Nice cream tea though not convinced it was a good clotted cream. Prices very good and scones warm and delicious.

Called in on the off chance. The deals were great value for money. The food was wonderful and the service excellent. Good out door space great for wheelchairs. The range of food has something for everyone. Would recommend this unreservedly

Lovely cream tea, able to have with tea or coffee. Lovely scones and loved the finishing touches with the strawberry and red and white theme. The service was very good. Really enjoyed the tea.

Had cream teas and toasted tea cakes here. It was lovely. I cannot recommend here highly enough it's a very nice place for tea or ice cream and a sit with a car park opposite. Try it and enjoy

Couldn't come to the isle of Wight without visiting the strawberry thatch and it's still as good as ever . The best cream tea you can find anywhere, and a must to visit every time we come to the island. The children's lunch boxes are also great my son was very pleased with his and that is a big bonus as he's so fussy. The staff are great and very friendly and it's really clean. So if you are over on the island don't just walk past and say how lovely it looks, get yourself in, you won't be disappointed.

We go to the strawberry thatch every year for cream tea sand they have not disappointed us yet. The lady who owns it is very friendly and welcoming sadly they didn't have any crab but didn't dissapoint with the leek and potatoe soup I had instead. We will be back next year

We briefly stopped here whilst in Shanklin en route to Blackgang Chine. We had lunch and a cream tea. Food was delicious and the scones were amazing. Fully recommend!

After an afternoon shopping this was a nice little place to stop and watch the world go by. Delicious milkshakes!

Great ice cream in a lovely location, I even had a coffee and my son could not resist the Victoria sponge which he kept all for himself - shame we did not get chance to come back.

We have visited a number of times over the years and their cakes are delicious and light. The only problem you'll have is what to choose! Added to which their cream teas are lovely too!

We stopped again at The Strawberry Thatch as we do each time we come to the Isle Of Wight. As before the lady was pleasant and the food was lovely.

The place itself is reasonably nice. The scone was delicious. The coffe wasn’t particularly nice. And the staff weren’t particularly friendly.

Lovely and peaceful place to stop and take a rest. Great bacon sandwiches and baguettes, freshly made so piping hot and not skimpy on the bacon either. Delicious milkshakes. Excellent prices.

This little cafe serves ice creams, drinks, cakes and more. Seating indoors and outside. Close to lovely shops and Shanklin Chine.

This delightful tea room and restaurant served the most delicious food at such a reasonable price. Children will love it, the place is full of fairies, tea pots and quirky things to keep the children entertained.

We heard from a fellow traveller that this place had very good crab sandwiches. So we went there for lunch. The price of a huge baguette stuffed with crab to the gunnels were very reasonable. £6.50. Would recommend it highly.

We was passing this lovely little eating place . And on a bit notice board outside was specials . One being fresh Crab sandwich .the price was low so in we went . Turned out it was run by a lovely lady who was working all alone due to her assistant being on her half day off.. Pots and pans were philing up In the sink. My wife having been in this trade offered to help out . But the lady with a big smile said it was no problem. And asked how she could help us . So we asked for the Crab Sandwick.. We was close to the kitchen and could see her very busy getting to work . With out much delay we was surprised at the huge meal before us . And first class too. Only disappointment of the day, was the weather . Rain was on and off all the week of our trip . But at least the bargain crab made our day . Eric G.

Whilst we didn't actually eat here we did enjoy a delicious IoW ice cream. Very prompt and friendly service and nice garden. The opening times appeared a bit ad hoc but that could just be down to the fact that it was mid to late September? Also no toilet, the nearest being Tower Garden, approx 50m away which the council have recently started charging a fee for..

We called in here to get a coffee and enjoyed not only a Ciffee but one of her several different types of Scone,was many different fillings. The staff were very friendly helpful and served the foos to us quite quickly. As well as Scones there was many different types of cake, sandwiches ice creams etc a really nice break

This small cafe is at the back of Shanklin near to then large car park and the start of the Chine. You need to know initially this cafe does not have toilets. The shape of the small building is like travelling the day like a clock.

Lovely cream tea in pleasant garden. Service was very good and a nice smile. Lovely Saturday afternoon treat.

Cream teas great but Strawberry and cream at a fair price sitting in the sun watching the traffic go by and all served with a smile, photos i include are Aug 2017 I ment to go back for more but hoilday to short with lots to do and see, anyway i will be back next year

Always a pleasure to visit the Strawberry Thatch for tea and cakes - or ice creams and milkshakes in better weather. The homemade cakes are always wonderful and the service is friendly too, and so on this occasion it was a welcome stop off in the rain. Payment is by cash only so make sure you're prepared for that.

Having parked in the car park opposite we decided to go in as it looked a nice place to sit...

We stopped off here for a much needed sit down after tramping around Shanklin (old, new, and beachside) for a few hours. The menu was as expected in an establishment like this and had something to please the whole family. We enjoyed decent quality sandwiches and soup and, of course, scones with cream and jam. With friendly staff and efficient service, there's nothing to say other than if in Shanklin Old Village, give this place a try! Only disappointment was lack of card payment facility which, in this day and age, is a must for any establishment. New players in the card payment market with cost models a fraction of the main players allow even the smallest establishments to offer card payments cost efficiently so come on Strawberry - embrace the 21st century!

We end up here every year as they do lovely food at a reasonable price plus the owner is very friendly, Local crab sandwiches to die for , see you next year !

After a long journey I was deseperate for a drink and something to eat and I thought this place looked nice so went in ordered a cream tea with Coffee.1) The scone came with 1 portion of butter-Fairly big scone.2) No spoon to stir my coffee3) The Parasols weren't up so it was bit hot.If I go again I will have a cold drink with teacake or a sandwich.

Had a couple of crab sandwiches whilst on holiday. This one was the best value and very tasty. Highly recommended.

This quaint, beautiful old tearoom looks good in the photos but the food is even better! Very reasonable prices, excellent service and really delicious cream teas! The menu was extensive and looked good, but we just had afternoon tea, and that was extremely good!

In a quaint little thatch, with everything strawberry related decor, right down to the plates with red serviette with a white doily. The presentation is so important and the lady goes to extraordinary lengths to make your visit special.

Wow the crab sandwiches are awesome! Go get one! My mum really enjoyed the cream tea. Staff very friendly and happy to help!

We had a lovely cream tea here, after randomly stopping to ask if we could borrow the floor to change or daughter on. The public toilets were shut due to vandalism and she didn't have any herself, but the owner was very obliging. We then stopped for a tea and fruit scone. Scone was served with plenty of clotted cream and strawberry jam; just what we wanted. It's very cute inside, everything is strawberry themed including the windchime! Worth a visit!

We stopped by for lunch on a sunny weekday. Our sandwiches were very good, and they had a nice and inventive selection of cakes. Unfortunately my meal was too filling for me to try the cake. The only downside was that the outside seating is noisy due to its central location. Next time I'll sit indoors.
