Have now visited this place twice now and both times they have had falt equipment. This franchise obviously doesn't look after but at their stores. Don't bother.
We opted to go to this gastro pub having read great things on line and the fact that the fish and chips here are supposed to be a speciality. However, it turned out that those who ordered the beef and burger dishes made the best choices. To my mind, the haddock and chips - ordered by three members of our group - were definitely inferior to what one gets at the nearby Oliver’s fish and chip restaurant where the price is at least 50% lower. I suppose one must take into account the lovely decor of this pub and the very good service but not the place to head to if you are a fish and chip aficionado. On another day my verdict may be different but today was not that day.
Great meal with great service but felt staff could have been increased. But they were great and fun!!!!
Breakfast was busy but only Alisia - hope that is correct - on and as she only had a short night from a late finish, very unfair.
Hotel a little tired but as clean as the staff can do.
We wanted somewhere for my birthday lunch but being in a Motorhome can make finding parking challenging. We were visiting Highclere and passed this pub and did a quick u-turn. We were able to park at the back of the car park as it had a couple of extra long spaces. We were asked if we had booked a table and advised we hadn't, the serving lady found us a lovely table in the window for 2 plus our dog. We didn't want a big lunch so I chose the scotch egg starter with a side of chips, my hubby had cod cheek scampi with fries and salad. It was lovely, cooked beautifully and tasted homemade. Prices of some dishes were a little hefty but our dishes were well priced. There were dog snacks and water bowls We would definitely recommend, some dishes we saw coming out certainly looked very generous portions so be warned. Congratulations to the lady serving as she was serving behind the bar as well as waitressing, I don't think the pub had anticipated being quite so busy but she managed extraordinarily well until a colleague turned up to assist, well done.
I called the restaurant before ordering to confirm that I will get 1 mint source per chicken chat meal. The man on the phone confirmed that I will receive exactly that. When the food arrived there was only one small tub of mint source in the bag despite me ordering 2 chicken chats with puree.
I called the restaurant about this matter and he said again that you get 1 per meal. When I said yes I ordered 2 meals with 2 starters been chicken chat, he said no 1 per bag. So I responded with , if I order 10 chicken chats I would still only receive one tiny tub. He said yes that’s right. So I told him I was leaving bad review due to it not been good enough. He furthermore said that’s fine and hung up the phone
In addition to this the food is usually spot on. I would even go as far to say the best in Basingstoke. However tonight, the food was disappointing. First of all it was cold. And the chicken seemed like it had been cooked and just thrown in the source, not marinated or cooked in the source. The only part of the meal I enjoyed was the naan bread truthfully.
I will not order from here again, simply because the customer service is atrocious, but also because it is not a cheap Indian restaurant and the food was not at all nice.
We have visited before, but this visit was even better than last time. Outstanding 5* service - more than so called 5* properties I have been to, and the food was absolutely delicious! We will definitely be visiting again.
Booked online for an overnight stop, expecting a quaint gastro pub. Arriving at 5pm on a Sunday, alarm bells went off quickly, as we were conducted to a small ground floor room and told that we should present ourselves for dinner asap as there was a "quiz" later. We dropped our bags and went for dinner 30 mins later, to be given a pokey table half-hidden round the back of the door, where we gave our aperitif orders and were the left for 30 minutes without our drinks until we went searching for someone to serve us, only to find we'd apparently been forgotten.
We just ordered a main course to begin with - the pea ravioli main course at 18 pounds was very small and bland. The crab linguini was mushy and very spicy, but not bad, quite ample but again 19 pounds or so. The highlight was a rocket, balsamic vinegar, and parmesan side salad, which was ample and very tasty.
For dessert, the rum baba at 9 pounds was small and very dry, with little rum. The jaw-dropper however was the small side plate of cheese and biscuits for 15 pounds! Incredible.
We headed back to our room quite quickly as the main bar was filled with locals and the staff seemed more focussed there. The room was quite noisy till 11pm, then very quiet and we slept well.
Breakfast was continental, well-presented, and adequate, although there weren't enough plates or slices of bread and again it was a long wait for a pot of tea.
The staff on the whole were friendly and courteous, with the exception of the waitress who didn't seem to be that bothered with her customers. On the whole we were left thinking that the room was fine, but that the food was overpriced by about 40% and the friendly staff seemed distracted or perhaps simply too thinly stretched to provide decent service. A shame and a bit of a missed opportunity, we've had excellent experiences in British gastropubs while visiting the UK, but this unfortunately was just disappointing. At this price point and looking for a special experience, I don't think we'd risk it again.
Dinner for two: two plates of pasta, one rum baba, a side plate of cheese and biscuits, one pint of ale and an orange juice. 87 pounds.
One night bed and continental breakfast for two: 98 pounds.
The promised email of the invoice at checkout hasn't turned up yet. Maybe it will.
Last Sunday I brought my two children in for dinner and as soon as we got there we were warmly welcomed by a lovely waitress, we were asked if we would like water and had it brought straight to us. Service was outstanding, the waitress and waiter were very attentive, the food portions were brilliant as well as the food. Overall amazing food and customer service, will definitely be visiting again.

My closest pub and I'm so glad. I feel comfortable coming into this pub on my own or just with my dog. Staff are always friendly and kind. Lovely vibe over Christmas too. Very welcoming and very dog friendly.
