Hoddington Arms in Basingstoke and Deane

The Hoddington Arms is getting it right! From the warm and friendly welcome, to the ongoing super service from all staff, and the lovely food. Ambience - the lighting is just right and I personally loved hearing Sam Cooke discreetly in the background. I had a lovely evening with friends. Thank you to the team at The Hodd.

Outstandingly beautiful dining experience at the Haddington Arms restaurant. We went as a family for a birthday celebration and loved every minute. We had a lovely, quiet table which had been requested but still enjoyed the atmosphere. The menu is excellent and the dishes were all outstanding with beautiful flavours. Also well presented and good portion sizes. This was a night to remember.

In my ranking system, this place earns a solid C, around 6.5 out of 10. The fish was good, but the batter had an odd flavor. Overall, the experience was quite average. I'd likely return, but only if family requested it.

They know they are good and they are. Amazing food, good menu selection, amazing food, good service and amazing food. We will be back. Good glutton free and well explained. Did I mention the amazing food.

Every time we have visited the Haddington Arms, we receive a first class service. On this occasion my wife had the goat cheese as first course and I had the cheese soufflé. Both were very tasty. As the main dish we shared the chateobriand and we found the meat very tender and tasty. The three-cooked fries are always great at this place.

Met up with 3 school friends for our annual get together mid way between our respective homes. Made very welcome and held our table for 7 despite 3 of the group being late due to heavy traffic. Great food to suit all and nice choice of beers and refreshment. No chardonnay though (?).Excellent service and friendly banter with the staff. Definitely would recommend and would like to go again. Good value for money. £50 per head all in.

Such a good experience at this gem of a pub, we really don't know why we've not been here before! Meeting family for dinner it was picked as being the halfway point. Couldn't fault a thing - very welcoming and friendly service, lovely atmosphere, and the most tasty, beautifully prepared, faultless food. We only live 25 minutes away and somehow have been missing out - we'll certainly be back!

We had Sunday lunch here yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great food and friendly service. There aren't that many decent places to eat in the area, so this is a real (recent) find for us. We'll be back.

We had a wonderful evening meal at The Hodd. A good varied menu with some great classics. I was particularly impressed by the lady who served us and her knowledge regarding gluten (my wife is celiac) and the menu that enabled my wife to have a good choice, which can be challenging sometimes. The majority of dishes can be adapted. Her knowledge of the wine by the glass was also great, providing a good recommendation of the Malbec. The Burger, F+C, and Beef are all very good

We were a party of 11 celebrating my husband's birthday today. The food was truly excellent - all our guests said so. The Hod really lives up to it's reputation as having the best Sunday lunch in and around Basingstoke. Everything was delicious today. The servers were really helpful, courteous and friendly. We weren't rushed at all, nor did we have to wait a long time between ordering and receiving our meals - timings were spot on! The staff gathered round to sing happy birthday to my husband, which was a lovely touch. A friend made a birthday cake which we were able to light and bring in after dessert and staff brought plates and forks for anyone who could manage a slice of cake on top of pud. NB: a previous review was rather negative about a 'cakeage charge' for bringing their own birthday cake. I asked about this and just wanted to set the record straight.....there is no extra charge if diners have had puddings and/or coffees. It only applies if you just have a main course, and then have your own cake instead of dessert - I find this entirely reasonable!

As a CAMRA member i thought id try this for a good ale after visiting family in the village. Sadly this lovely old village boozer is now a Gastro Pub. I didnt even bother to stop to sample or see what Ales were available. Lovely location though.

Everything you would ask for in a rural country pub. Food excellent, service attentive and atmosphere chilled and relaxed. Lovely pub, nice atmosphere and wonderful service, i had a main and pudding, belly of pork, delicious then sticky toffee pudding, really nice. Not the cheapest of pubs but worth it. Not busy Thursday lunch time and not very warm.

My wife and kids had a really lovely, relaxed Xmas Eve lunch at the Hoddington Arms. Full roast lunch with all the trimmings and very tasty indeed. Would highly recommend.

We’ve been several times and always as good: warm welcome, excellent service, fabulous food. This time we came for lunch - so I had fish and chips like no other you could have - great crisp batter, crisp chips but fluffy inside, and mushy peas of course! Bavette steak was excellent too and the whole baked run worth cheese was delicious too. Some of us were cowards and just had ice cream for dessert but the chocolate cremeaux was superb and truly rich.

Only slight issue was size of table for six of us, it was snug, however it did not spoil the enjoyment of our lunch. Will revisit.

We had a pre -Christmas family meal at The Hoddington Arms. We were welcomed warmly and the service we received throughout our meal was exceptional, really great and chatty waitress who made suggestions from the menu and knew the wine list. From a limited and not very interesting menu, we both opted for the burger - a combination of classic beefburger and a short rib patty. The short rib didn&#039;t taste like beef and the burger was overcooked, dry and gristly. We both left most of it. When the pub reopened for indoor eating we had a lovely Sunday lunch but something has gone horribly wrong since then. We are not likely to return any time soon.

It was my husband’s birthday, so we were out for a family meal. We really liked the table we were given - five of us around a rectangular table in a window recess, until a VERY loud family sat next to us! Appreciate that isn’t your fault, but we couldn’t hear our conversation, only theirs.<br />The service was good, except that the two waitresses gave me mixed messages re allergens in the food I chose. I have a severe nut allergy and felt unsure whether I should eat the bread as I was first told it didn’t contain nuts, then was told it did, then was told it didn’t again! Likewise the dessert I chose, the crème brûlée, I asked for the nuts to be left off as decoration, then after ordering was told there were in fact nuts in the shortbread too. As a result I cancelled my dessert order. <br />With a severe allergy I need to be sure that what I’m eating is safe - it really is imperative that your staff know the correct information for each dish so as to avoid a potential catastrophe for your customers with allergies.

It had been a long time since we had visited The Hoddington Arms and we weren’t disappointed.<br /><br />Delicious food and very friendly and welcoming staff.<br /><br />The only area I would highlight there is not much time given between courses, so did feel a little rushed. However, it did not spoil the evening and I would highly recommend.

Excellent over all. Imaginative food well presented with great service. The only issue was the Bavette steak was slightly chewy. However, we will return.

I must start by thanking the owner for calling on the morning of our dinner to tell us about all the road closures and best way (only way!!!) to get there. The roads are all narrow country lanes too. This small gesture shows what a great place the Hoddington Arms is.<br /><br />The menu was simple 1 page and everything fresh. Lovely inside ambience and such friendly staff. Excellent value as well. Definitely going there again.
