Good service big beer garden. nice staff great food try the all day breakfast and that Sunday dinners best in Basingstoke.

Can only comment on the booze, but it's your average local. Not bad, nothing to write home about. Lovely service though!

I was looking for a venue for my mother in-laws wake A good friend of ours recommended this pub the raising sun so we went to meet Laura who had not long taken over the Premises She was brilliant we told her what we would like and Laura told us it would not be a problem she told us the area that we would be Designated to us on the day it all sound good so we booked it When we got there with friends and family members the whole team was so friendly and kind The food they provided was more that we could have expected It was fresh and tasty and lots of it All our friends and family commented on how good it was At the end There was food left over and Laura asked if we wanted it rapped up to take away we didn’t but what a lovely gesture Highly recommend this pud was absolutely outstanding and at such a stressful time Thank you Laura and her team xx

Don’t serve food as far as I can tell, the beer tastes stale and they have the most ridiculously loud music at the least considerate times. They are in a residential area with lots of young families and elderly people and have loud base music playing through festival type speakers frequently. Inside it also smells very strange and everything is sticky - save your money and go to spoons

Before the change of management we used to be in here almost every Sunday for the roast and general atmosphere as its our local for around 6 years. The pub itself is lovely and a big pub garden which is great in the summer. Since the changes though, we experienced a few things that have knocked the rating. - The roast has been hit + miss. The last time we were in though it was lovely. -There used to be place mats and cutlery set out (especially if you had reserved a table) but this doesn't seem to happen anymore. When you get used to how a particular place operates in regards to serving food, reservations and general service, you notice. - The music in the pub seems to come from the one large speaker that is on the bar. The times we have been in there, it has been blasting music that you would hear in a nightclub and at a volume where you cannot hear yourself speak. Came in for a quiet drink and would have been fine in the evening when more people were in, but there was only around 2 others in the bar. - We asked for juice and lemonade but it didn't taste right (more like squash and something else) so we asked for it to be changed to just lemonade. Didn't taste like lemonade but more like tonic water. Not sure if it was due to running out of certain things or the bar staff not understanding what we were asking for, but we haven't had a issue with asking for that drink before.

We have just had an awesome roast dinner. The food was all beautifully cooked and the gravy was to die for!!! I cannot recommend enough.

What can I say we poped into try the sunday roast and we weren't disappointed. Great portion size, lovely quality food. Roast beef was outstanding and stuffing was out of this world. Finished off witn apple crumble and custard. Service was fantastic We will definitely be going again.

When we arrived the staff were really nice but then it went down hill. I understand it’s tough times and also busy but we ended up leaving after waiting forever for our 3rd drink. We asked many times and was told it was coming by three people! After 50 mins and watching other tables get their drinks we decided to go someone else

Friendly stuff and great British food. This has been my local for almost a year but today was my first visit and very impressed especially with the food and friendly waiting stuff.

We managed to have our first work team lunch at the Rising Sun, safe distancing outside area, great service. Food was fresh and tasty. 5 star rating for the fresh homemade pizza

Just been to the Rising Sun with my elderly mother for Sunday lunch. The smaller Sunday roast proved too much for both of us! The food was all fresh and excellent quality. The waitress, Rachel, was very helpful, smiley and couldnt have done more to make our visit a really good experience. The bill was a really nice surprise having had a good lunch, dessert and a pint of alcohol for mum and a pint of non alcoholic drink for me for just £25. Try it next time you want Sunday lunch out you won't t be disappointed.

This pub has the friendliest staff and customers, great priced drinks, it's a nice traditional pub and can not recommend enough, the karaoke nights are a hit too ☺️

Here with a friend, was curious to try this lovely pub. It's properly a classical British pub with beers, ciders & local food. They have a good selection of ciders, I don't like too much the beers that they have got but I like the quiet atmosphere that it has got, silencious during the week, with more people in the weekends.

Great little pub. Came here for a party. Very welcoming. Party went really well. Bonus of it being a karaoke night too. Good stock of drinks. Not too bad prices.

Went for Macmillan coffee morning. Staff friendly, was clean and tidy. Have yet to try the menu but looks as if it caters for most tastes.

Excellent Sunday lunch. Large portion, excellent beef, great portion of vegetables incorporating 5 type of vegetables and huge Yorkshire puddings all for under a tenner. Excellent customer service, friendly, cheerful staff. Bright, clean environment.

Very well-kept cask ales. Not the cheapest pub in the town but definitely worth a visit. Large garden and rear patio. Food is high quality. One of the few Basingstoke pubs boasting its own car park.

Popped in for a quiet drink. Regulars were screaming and shouting obscenities. I found the drink prices extortionate.

Terrible. Too slow to serve lunch. Very cold when it finally came. No cutlery. Are with my fingers in the end. Voting with my feet, I will not be going there again. Hire some staff so you can cope

Myself and my partner popped in and were made to feel very welcome. My favourite tipple is gin and they had a great selection and I was even recommended a few, the raspberry gin was 1st class. My partner really enjoyed the Orchard Thieves cider. We will definitely be returning and eating in this establishment again.

The rising sun is that old school not a chain actual pub, at. I'm guessing it is, doesn't feel like a chain pub. It's a bit pricey for out of town, however has regular music and events

8 friends from college in the 1970s chose Basingstoke to meet because it is a railway hub and most of them could get there by train. The choice of The Rising Sun was because of location, close to the station. It is a 4 minute drive or 5 minute walk (the drive is rather convoluted) This proved to be a good choice. We could talk until a short time before trains were due and still get to the station on time. Manager, Kevin was very helpful answering my emailed queries and followed up with an email afterwards asking for feedback. One of our number is disabled and, although it was not ideal, she managed well. Do not attempt to enter from the rear car park if you have mobility issues but enter by the front door. She did leave by the front door. We were a bit disconcerted by the decor but were quickly assured that the cobwebs were all artificial and ready for Halloween! To be quite fair, they had made some effort to decorate for that. The welcome and service was superb, as was the food. There is a chef and al dishes are homemade. The pies went down particularly well and it was commented on that it made a pleasant change in a pub to have the food served directly on the plate instead of in individual bowls on top of the plate. The pie pieces had been cut from homemade large pies. Tom the barman obliged by taking several photos on our varied cameras. There is a garden with tables, as the photos show, but it was too cold for us in October. The only criticisms were that we wished that the things that were off the menu had been wiped from the menu boards before we had raised our hopes in choosing them and the Eton Messes some had ordered were more like strawberry sundaes, which were a bit disappointing. The sticky toffee pudding was voted delicious. You order at the bar and food is served to the tables. (I can’t honestly tick the suitable box in the list as the staff are not technically waiters but we were served - a quirk in the review system on this site!) This was a convenient venue for our meeting and we can recommend it. We tend to choose a different town each time we meet, so we will probably not be returning but not because we didn’t like it. Thanks to the staff for helping to make our time together very pleasant.

We were travelling by train and meeting family driving from Poole. Found the pub on google maps and saw the good reviews and booked a table for Saturday lunchtime From the moment we walked in we were really impressed with the service. We were made to feel really welcome. The staff were very friendly. Good menu plus specials. Will be back and would definitely recommend.

A lovely little potential gem of a local pub that sadly seems to change owners a lot and therefore has the odd spell of not being open. It has a lot of promise and just needs to have some minor work done to improve the decor and add some more light. Staff are friendly and nice. It would seem though that this place has been harmed by the larger chains in town. Hopefully with the building of the nearby Chapel Gate estate, there is potential for this pub to bring in some business.

Spent a Friday night there. This pub got new management about a year ago and has improved vastly. Had a really good Friday night there with live music. Not packed out like other pubs in the centre. Good atmosphere.

The service at the Rising Sun was incredibly friendly and helpful, very chatty and friendly guy running the place. I had a fantastic burger, which you could tell had been made at the pub, with huge fat chips. The place has a lovely atmosphere, and with a separate bar to the restaurant would be good for relaxed deinks or eating out.

Had a great meal at The Rising Sun - the owner and staff couldn’t have been any friendlier or more helpful. Would recommend.

What a lovely pub! Just moved here and this place is so close. My fiancee was working late so thought I'd check it out. Wasn't sure if it would be a 'locals' pub... It was but in the most positive sense! They couldn't have been more welcoming!! 😊 I'd facebook'd during the day to enquire about darts etc.. Got instant responses. I hadn't introduced myself when I came in but one of the owners (Kevin) came and introduced himself and welcomed me. He even had a game of arrows with me. Nice touch even though he thrashed me! Haha I will definitely be coming back. Want to try once of the lovely Sunday Roast with the missus! :)

first of all this didn't start off as a negative review but something grabbed my attention last minute and I thought I had to share as personally I thought it was unacceptable. Now the Service was absolutely fantastic the barman was a young guy, very tall but I have forgotten his name, he had a bright smile that welcomed us into the pub, he asked us what drinks we would like and promptly served us and when we left he sent us on our way with another smile, now the second time we came down it was a Friday night and the pub was absolutely booming and the juke box was on free play which was a nice touch as it kept us there longer waiting for our songs to come on, we were served by a girl this time and she was also lovely the drinks were again lovely but we couldn't help but over hearing 2 of who we assumed were regulars constantly bickering about the taller barman constantly going on about how lazy he was and how we was definitely the worst member of staff, now I feel this is completely unacceptable the poor boy wasn't even there to defend himself and then after doing some snooping we found out that one of them was the Chef! and this went on for a couple of hours before the Chef sat down in a chair and fell asleep. We will return but only after things have been sorted and all the staff members have had a chat and improved their feelings towards each other 5/5 for the service and drinks 3/5 for the negativity towards staff members

We live locally and came today for Sunday lunch, it was absolutely delicious and the best Sunday lunch we've had out in a very long time. Excellent value for money too.
