I’m a bit late writing this review but reminded to do so because I keep getting emails from the pub. We called into the pub to talk to them about arranging lunch for a large party after a christening. We did that especially because we wanted to know where we might be sat. This was an important event for us. We were shown a lovely area and it was explained how tables could be put together. We booked, and were looking forward to it. We were surprised when we arrived for the lunch to find we had been put in a tiny annex away from the main dining area. Chairs had been squeezed in, there was no room for high chairs or the pushchair and we had to squeeze past each other to reach seats. The children kept having to duck under the table to go to the toilet. We had been asked to pre order our meals, but many of them were wrong when they arrived and four of the desserts did not arrive and we had to find someone to ask for them ( after about 15 mins of waiting). All in all it was disappointing to say the least and we will never go there again. It felt like we were just treated like captive customers and they couldn’t be bothered. Actually we have lots of family events and our repeat custom would have been valuable.

Friendly staff but have gender neutral toilets and so won't be going back there until common sense prevails! What women wants to walk past a man using the urinals? Unbelievable!

Read so many good reviews about this pub. But sadly I came on a bad day. Service unhappy and sarcastic to start with. The Sunday roast I ordered I can do better at home. No one asked if our meal was ok. Tried to complain but there was communication breakdown between staff and manager! Happy to take our money and service charge (what service) KFC have better customer service. Disappointed and will not return.

We used the function room of the pub to host our engagement party earlier this month. The room was a great size and had good lighting and music options - being able to connect our own music to the sound system was fab. The food was delicious and there was lots of it - many guests commented on how great the buffet was. The bar upstairs was well stocked and service good. You had to go downstairs to order from the main bar if you wanted draught beer but we were made aware of this beforehand and not an issue at all. The service from Sophie throughout the booking and organising process was brilliant and we would absolutely use the venue again if needed. Big thanks to the White Hart for helping us celebrate!

The White Hart, have just hosted my father-in-laws post funeral celebration . The whole process from booking, to the event itself was stress free and superbly managed. Every member of staff made the day fantastic. From the time we arrived to the time we left they were thoughtful and attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. The food was great, and they made sure that, an emotional day was stress free and relaxed. I can’t praise them or thank them enough.

After a visit to the Bombay Sapphire Distillery we wanted lunch and had hoped to come across a country pub with a garden. But nothing quite right came into view, so we stopped at The White Hart. It's a large pub with plenty of indoor seating and we received a pleasant welcome from the staff behind the bar. We opted to sit outside but, sadly, no countryside views. Instead some nice planters with flowers but otherwise a bit of a tired-looking seating area. The menu was typical pub fare and the food we ordered (a burger and fish and chips) was fine - neither the best we have ever had, but certainly not the worst. The one problem we had was the slow service, it took ages before a waitress came to take our order. As the pub was not that busy it was almost as though we had been forgotten about.

We decided to book for the night as we have found all upham pubs a delight. The room did not disappoint, Small little touches, USB sockets, dyson fan, wireless charger, heated mirror, with the largest bathroom you could ever wish for, a roll top bath too! The bed was most comfortable. I must mention dinner, I have allergies but the staff were very attentive, listened and catered for me perfectly. Breakfast was tasty, very well stocked table, good presentation. We will definitely return.

9th June 2024. We went for Sunday roast. FIrst time of going so no axe to grind. This my honest assessment. Staff- couldnt fault. Very polite, helpful & attentive. Food - Meats were beef, chicken, & gammon . Most priced at £19.95. I had beef & a 1/4 of chicken. Chicken was okay, Only 1 small slice of beef which had fat on. 2 medium size roast potatoes. 1 large yorkie, parsnip, & 3 small portions of seasonal veg. It was average & overpriced. Didnt have a dessert so cant comment. Drinks - expensive. Large glass of standard wine was £12.50. Now for the sucker punch. Went out as a family. 6 adults , 1 child. 5 roasts, 1 burger meal. 1 childs dinner. 3 sweets & 1 childs ice cream. 2 lime & sodas, 2 cokes, 2 glasses of wine, & 2 pints & a childs drink. Our bill came to £218 plus a service charge of 12.5 % or nearly £28 which made the total £245. Probably mentioned in small print at the bottom of the menu somewhere but was not mentioned when the bill was handed over. Hmmm. Refused to pay it & left a tip of my own decision. Expected a lot better for the price..

We discovered this chain of pubs a couple of years ago. They are right up our street and now when travelling between home (Devon) and the South East needing a stop over we look for a convenient one. On this occasion we had a funeral to attend in Surrey early Monday morning so we booked this pub and left home 3pm Sunday afternoon. It was our second visit and it was great to be back. A really warm welcome as we trooped in with bags++. A very nice room (2). Last time, it was 7. Great bathroom. Warm, cosy, great tea/coffee facilities etc. We hit downstairs pretty quickly and started to enjoy ourselves. We had not seen the tapas menu before and this suited us. They are small and we happily ate 6!! Not a cheap evening but most enjoyable. Had a great night's sleep and a lovely shower. We had not paid for breakfast in advance but took advantage of the 2 for £14 plus complimentary buffet including tea and juice. We thought this was excellent value and really enjoyed the smashed avo on toast with poached eggs and tomatoes. Both male members of staff we dealt with were great. We will definitely be back not only here but to other pubs in the charming bedrooms chain.

We were staying locally and visited twice, once for a pint and once for food. Service was good including checking that our food was fine. The beer was well kept and choice of food good. Prices pretty much in line with good pubs. I’m happy to tip but prefer it to be at my discretion/amount as I think it ensures a better level of service.

On arrival, went and sat down in a booth. Was then told to move as it was reserved, however no reserved sign on the table. Then sat a table that was ridiculously wobbly, so had to move again. Waited ages for staff to come and take a drinks order, then waited even longer for food order. Food arrived, all cooked ok, but small portions, and apparently as they call themselves a gastro pub, your food has to come in a load of weird random pots on the plate, like a miniature saucepan for your peas, which adds no value whatsoever, however the food was nice. What really wound me up however, was a 12.5% service charge added to the bill! The absolute cheek of it! We are not in America!!! I didn’t realise this was the case, nothing was said at the bar when I went to pay, how sneaky! The service we received was not up to scratch, the teenage waiting staff need training because they really don’t have a clue. Disappointing. The service charge needs to be removed, it’s incredibly sneaky, and quite frankly rude and entitled. Had we received better service I would have tipped the staff, but to just add it anyway and then NOT say anything at time of paying is appalling.

My daughter and I booked this hotel for one night as we were going on the Bombay Sapphire gin tour. We arrived at 11am thinking this would be too early to check in but to our surprise the young lady (Jess?)behind the bar said our room was available. The room was very nice and had several added extras for us to enjoy during our stay. We had a couple of tapas dishes for our lunch before catching the bus from the bus stop right outside the hotel/pub. We enjoyed a cocktail and shared a dessert in the pub before going to bed. Breakfast was very nice. The only reason that I haven’t given a 5 star rating is there is a slight smell in the corridors from the extractor fan in the kitchen. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

While the environment is lovely and the service, this time, was great, the menu really has gone downhill. There's nothing exciting or exotic at all, just plain old pie, mash, fish & chips and the like. The food itself was quite bland and difficult to get through. Won't be returning until the menu offers something beyond dull, regular pub food.

Everything in the White Heart is disorganised. On arrival you are just ignored. When you do manage to get attention they have no idea on what to do. Drinks are not offered you have to go to the bar as no waiter available. The revamped tapas menu and build your own meal are a good change to the offering. However the staff have no clue of what the dishes include so you are left to work it out. From ordering to meals arriving 45 mins. Just plonked on the table by waitress and left. No offer of sauces etc or maybe a second drink. No check is the food OK. So back to bar to queue and carry your own.drinks back. Then when you get your bill from the bar they add 12.5% service charge to everything. What a joke as there is no service. They were unfriendly throughout. We live local and really like how the hotel is laid out. Whenever we visit we struggle so it's no fun. This hotel and restaurant needs a manager who knows their job. Staff need training.

Family Christmas Day lunch and all of us had pre-ordered different starters, mains and desserts. Management had taken care to limit the numbers in the dining areas so the pub didn’t feel overcrowded or noisy and all the food was beautifully prepared, presented and served when requested. Excellent value for money and the whole experience really enhanced our Christmas Day. Thank you to all involved.

In the planning phase, the manager Sophie could not have been more patient, more efficient or more helpful. Everything was provided for, including our own private bar and a magnificent buffet. The size of the screen was fine for the photo show we projected, and the sound system worked easily. It was unfortunate that it was such an uncharacteristically warm evening - but that was nobody's fault, and we were able to get fresh air outside or on the pub terrace whenever we wanted. My only regret was that we weren't able to consume or take home more of that wonderful buffet!

Visited this restaurant on Monday night for dinner. The food was OK but a few hours later both of us had really bad stomach aches, diarrhea, sickness and felt dizzy. This has continued for the last few days. I called the restaurant immediately on Tuesday...

Surprised at some of the other reviews - food and welcome was excellent. Ate twice (lunch and dinner) - and both times, staff were friendly, great wine and beer and food was really good. Mussels in particular were excellent. Was a little expensive - possibly...

One of our party was gluten and dairy intolerant ... the waiter had to keep checking several times to know which items contained dairy. This was surprising given the limited nature of the set menu. Also, the only dessert option for our party member from the set menu was the poached pear which was not available, and we weren't aware of this until after the first two courses. This wasn't unavailable due to being sold out, but because the pears were unexpectedly hard, and they were preferring not to serve them. We opted to take them as they came, yet did need a knife and fork to eat them, but I don't understand why they didn't just warm them up to soften them beforehand. Plus also, it came with an aniseed coulis, which was originally advertised as a berry coulis, and the dairy intolerant guest really can't stand aniseed, so they ended up leaving the pear! With all the faff around the dessert, it ended the meal on a down note, and it all could have been avoided had we been proactively warned about the pear before we locked ourselves into ordering off the set menu. I was also surprised that there was only one dairy free option off the set menu... even just sorbet ice cream wasn't an official option, though it came as an addition to the pear?

The waitress gave excellent service. Food was very tasty but, only disappointment was the menu choice could have been better & some items on the menu were not available, so making it difficult to choose anything we liked

Phoned at 11:30am to book a table for my family of 4 and dog for 2:30-2:45pm, which they confirmed and read back to me. When we arrived, they didn't have a table for us, no apologies, no explanation, didn't offer for us to sit at and wait for one to become available, could only offer us a tall bar table with tall bar stools that we wouldn't have even fitted our dinner plates onto. Not really the cozy Sunday lunch we pictured sitting down to after a few miles walking to get there. Luckily the Furze Bush down the road had space and were far more accommodating. Sorry, RC, I've always praised your pub, atmosphere and food to all my friends and family, but won't be any more.
