Great pub. Nice selection of drinks, and always a nice cask ale on offer. Draws a friendly, alternative crowd, and I've made lots of friends here. Expect bigger crowds when there's a band on, but thats a good thing. Nice outside space for the summer months too. Well done, White Hart crew.

We hired the Function Room of the White Hart for my wife's 70th birthday party. We all had a great time, and their guys were very helpful in every way. In the planning phase, the manager Sophie could not have been more patient, more efficient or more helpful. Everything was provided for, including our own private bar and a magnificent buffet. The size of the screen was fine for the photo show we projected, and the sound system worked easily. It was unfortunate that it was such an uncharacteristically warm evening - but that was nobody's fault, and we were able to get fresh air outside or on the pub terrace whenever we wanted. My only regret was that we weren't able to consume or take home more of that wonderful buffet!

A lovely pub with friendly staff. A good selection of beers, both draft and bottled, they also have alcohol free beers available. For those less keen on the taste of sweetener in their gin or vodka and tonic, they also stock Fevertree tonics. There are two beer gardens and they often have music events at weekends.

Very interesting pub to visit! Reputation as one of the oldest pubs in Basingstoke which has now been sympathetically updated. 5 people booked for a Valentines lunch form 70th birthday.and queued to find out that they couldn't have anyone as they were understaffed. Several people queried the fact that we had not been notified. The person in charge had not been briefed about the situation or what to do. Absolute shambles. so upsetting. The chef then shrugged and said only me here. Then suddenly we as a group were told to take a table. Two of our party queued at the bar to order drinks and find a menu One person on the bar so after 20 minuets no drinks or anyone to take our orders, we left as we had a very hungry baby with us.I understand things go wrong BUT please notify people OR inform your staff adequately about the situation. It was my 70th birthday and I am very very upset.

Not been in since the refurb. Still a lovely welcoming pub although a little cluttered with tables in the side room. Shared the room with a lot of senior citizen ladies who were comparing their medical ailments!Popped in for a pre-booked brunch, not in a hurry so didn't mind the 15 minutes wait for our order to be taken. My partner thought her flat white was perfect as was her eggs Florentine, the hollandaise sauce was just right.I had the double sausage, egg and cheese muffin. I found the muffin a little on the dry side as it had presumably been lightly toasted. Also there was some uncooked egg albumin on the plate and I wouldn't have minded a bit more cheese. The sausage patties were hot and flavoursome and generous. My Twinings breakfast tea was good with 2 generous cups from one pot. Not too keen on the tiny Kilner jar for the sugar lumps, difficult to extricate and may have been handled by previous customers. The staff were happy to redeem a voucher I had been sent by the White Hart as I didn't know if it was still valid.Would certainly return to try other brunch offerings.

We visited mid afternoon on a Sunday for a roast. Service was very slow and by the time the waitress took our order they had almost sold out of both Pork and Chicken so we were unable to have what we wanted. It then took an hour for our food to arrive after we had ordered, and when the food did arrive it was hugely disappointing. The portions were tiny, there was little difference between the kids and adults meal; despite the adults being £10 more expensive. We were all left hungry and, due to the slow service, didn't have time to stay for dessert as we had planned. The atmosphere was nice but we expected much better food and service, especially for the price.

Regular goer to the Hart. The food has been of a consistently good standard... the same unfortunately cannot be said about the bar.On 4 out of the last 4 visits to the pub in the space of 3 weeks the bar has shut early. Barstaff and manager saying there are insufficient people in the pub to remain open. On each occasion there were upwards of 10 people in the pub. Last orders being called at 2130, 2200 twice and 2210.It's hugely disappointing as regulars are being forced out before other pubs close... so why not go to the other pubs? Seems likely this will happen, as I will be doing this since I will be asked to leave at the discretion of the bar staff with no way to know what time will be called that evening.I hope it doesn't impact the pub as they have done a great job on the recent refurbishment. However when you're trying to order at the bar at 2130hrs and there are 4 people there, 2 cleaning behind the bar, 1 cashing up a till and another serving another customer for 5 minutes... you do wonder if they are geared towards making money. An independent landlord would certainly not waste the opportunity. Here's hoping there's more focus on the customer and not closing early.

Born and breed in Overton some 50 years ago I am very familiar with the White Hart but having moved away from the area 2 decades ago I have not been in it for something like 25 years. On a return visit to the village and after a Sunday morning 'memory lane' walk around Overton we dropped into the White Hart for a cooked breakfast. It was a very nice breakfast (cost £10) in a relaxed setting with character. Note - Hot breakfast last orders on a Sunday are taken at 09:45am. Nice to see the White Hart is still a part of the Overton landscape.

There was a strange atmosphere created by the serving staff, it appears not allowed to converse with the restaurant customers, The manager making himself the focal point, but it appeared to be below him to speed up matters by assisting getting and serving drinks picking up dishes.and making sure customers were being attended to. We had to chase many times. It appeared he believes he is trying to be managing at an Upmarket Establishment not A VILLAGE Restaurant in a PUB.also we found it had no reference to Gluten free items listed on the menu. In our opinion definitely not upmarket. The lay out is our view is not that we'll thought out., No character. Small rooms. Could have been given an individual identity . also at most other restaurants a waiter would introduce them selves and increase the enjoyment of the evening, a waiter for your area that evening. like the very good Italian restaurant in the same village It is worth the few extra £££ to have proffessional service. Tables appeared to big for area available and no defined eating area near the barWe felt thev service was slowed by the fact the serving staff were not communicating with the customers no banter, hardly acknowledging the customers, very strange atmosphere .spoilt the evening probable ok on larger groups, but not for small groups and couples. Though Except for type and slowish service food was Good.Though there was a strange smell when we first entered the bar possibly for the first and last time.

Had a very nice meal last Saturday. The last time I ate here (December pre pandemic) the service was terrible so I was slightly nervous bringing three out of town visitors but I had heard there was a new manager. I needn't have worried, our waitress Izzie looked after us, knew all the specials and took our order promptly and drinks and starters arrived quickly. I had the mussels for main which were lovely and when I asked for a finger bowl it was brought promptly (it probably should be standard for mussels?) Lovely pub ambience for my Italian visitor who was looking forward to a restaurant that was distinctly English. I look forward to returning.

The staff were friendly but we had to wait quite a while for our orders to be taken, and a long time before they were served. We ordered 2 Caesar salads and one burger and chips, so not a complicated order. The salads bore no resemblance at all to a CS, as well as the chicken being overcooked and hard at the edges, plus the croutons were large and somewhat in edible, and the bacon bits, well!Trying to pay was also a long wait! I haven't been here for a long time and won't be returning, but my friends had eaten here a few times, and had always been happy with their meals, but not today!

We have always tried to support the White Hart and when we had relatives visiting from Wales after 18 months apart it was the number 1 choice - BUT we left embarrassed after singing its praises before the meal! We ordered steaks at £23 each with Garlic King Prawn as an extra for £7. (See photo) What arrived was a joke - seven prawns that looked like they’d just been defrosted with a few slices of garlic thrown in. We drew our disappointment to the waitress’s attention who told us the manager said we could have a bottle of wine free - otherwise it would have been 4 small portions of prawns for £28! The embarrassment came from the chef trying to serve this pathetic serving and get away with it!The cheese board was accompanied by mouldy rotting grapes that smelt of sweaty feet! All in all not happy snd it’s going to take some convincing to go back again!

We stayed here on a Secret Escapes deal just as Boris was declaring that Xmas will be cancelled. Room was very nice and cosy in a charming old inn where there is hardly a straight line in sight. The ambiance of the room was fairly modern without losing the character of the building. But what really prompted me to write this review was the delicious fish and chips that I had here. I had the Signature burger the previous evening (which was very nice too), so I fancied a battered fish for dinner this time. I really had no expectations when I ordered it. I usually prefer cod over haddock, but thought it was worth a gamble. And it was terrific! The battter was light, thin and crispy. Yum! The fish itself was beautifully cooked, and almost forgot it was haddock. The chips were nicely cooked too. The accompanying sauce was rich and creamy, perfectly complementing the dish. And then the mushy peas made their own entrance...fabulous. Next time I go to Basingstoke I will try to pop in for more F&C.

Food was indifferent, wife’s steak was very tough, other 2 mains were OK but no more than that.Primary concern was the interaction between a blonde waitress and a table of 3 older customers maybe 2 metres from us, and the impact this had on me. Waitress stood and talked loudly to this table for 6-7 minutes on two separate occasions. That table appeared happy to talk to the waitress. However, I had two concerns. One, the waitress spoke very loudly, making me uneasy given her proximity to me in an indoor setting where COVID can travel. Two: when I heard her say “when l am not here, I am out and about everywhere” in a dismissive tone presumably relating to COVID it also made me uneasy. Other people may be comfortable about this: I am not and won’t be returning. To be clear this waitress was older than the other staff who served us who were 16-18 and all COVI D conscious. .

Reasonably regular visitor for the last few years since Uphams bought and refurbished this venue in Overton. Was surprised to see a simplistic new menu in place this week ([pizzas, burgers, a few other dishes, simple fried/basic starters).Quality is only average (steak was like leather and was replaced), tasteless veg, some options already expired by 1930pm etc etc. Apparently this new "menu" has been enforced across all the Uphams owned pubs. Ugh. The Palm Brasserie a few miles away offers a proper dining experience, beyond simple pub food.Sad to see this dumbing down. The wine list is also quite brief and simplistic.

We booked to come here for lunch after our tour of the Bombay Sapphire distillery and it did not disappoint. A lovely warm and homely atmosphere made even more so by the happy, friendly and engaging staff. Everyone we encountered during our visit was happy to be there, extremely polite and helpful - keep them around and please ensure they receive this positive feedback! Food was delicious too, will definitely recommend.

Greeted at the entrance with a friendly explanation over the Hart’s COVID restrictions and safe guards. Then shown to our table where our waitress was Chloe. Once again she couldn’t do enough for us and really took excellent care of our coeliac daughter who was 3 yrs old.The food was excellent and the service safe and super considerate. Really made to feel at home and nothing was too much bother... which with a three year old can sometimes be awkward! All in all the Hart remains a high class establishment which is defined by the performance of their staff. Once again Chloe thanks for making us feel so at home and welcome.See you all soon.

We booked to stay here as we were on a visit to the Bombay sapphire gin distillery and from the time we walked through the door on arrival to the time we left couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome. The staff we so friendly and helpful even down to advising us not to take a taxi but to get the bus ( which we weren’t even aware of ) to the distillery and had all the timetable information etc to make things simple. The hotel was absolutely spotless in all areas which is especially important and makes you more comfortable when out and about in these times . Dinner in the evening was very good steaks cooked perfectly. Our room was small and cosy but perfect for what we needed for the night , the only criticism I would have is that the window was onto the road and I felt a net or blind would have been nice for a bit of privacy rather than having to close the heavy curtains even during the afternoon. We will definitely be back

So lucky to have found this little gem at the last minute in the charming village of Overton. Enjoyed evening meal in sumptuous dining room. Small but gorgeously put together room with tasteful decor. Attention to Covid appreciated. Following a comfortable night’s sleep tucked into a scrumptious eggs Benedict in yet another cosy & attractive area of the pub. Attention to detail like fresh flowers on the table and amazing coffee for breakfast adds to a most pleasurable stay. Fabulous work Tina we’ll be back.

We booked on the spur of the moment on our way back from the cotswolds. We received a very friendly welcome the moment we entered. The staff were cheerful and friendly. We chose different roast dinners but they were both exceptional. It made for a really great end to a lovely weekend.

Our first proper meal out since before lockdown. Pre-booking essential of course and worked smoothly. My Panko coated squid rings were perfect with a lovely garlicky mayo. My partner enthused about her mushroom soup with artisan bread. My main of Signature burger was a delight and partner's haddock and chips excellent. The chips were what you always desire, golden, crunchy and fluffy.Young team friendly and efficient, (they did forget the satisfaction check though).Excellent value under the EOTHO scheme. As the White Hart have extended the scheme into September, we have already booked our next visit!

The White Hart, run by the fantastic Tina and her service-oriented team is a real diamond in Overton. The bar, the restaurant and (treat yourself) rooms are just perfect for a post ‘Bombay experience’ stop-over. The pub, outside areas and rooms are stylish and perfectly judged, the food is terrific and the lovely team including Georgia, Ella and Grace are brilliant. Book and stay - treat yourself. You won’t regret it

Only had drinks & nibbles but enjoyed sitting in the sunshine in their beautiful garden. This outside area was modern & well presented.Very friendly staff, especially Grace the assistant manager, she took the time to speak to us, making sure we were having a nice time, she is a real asset to this pub.Although we didn't eat here, all the food that passed us being delivered to nearby tables all looked superb.

Had a fantastic weekend mini break here combined with a visit, to the Bombay Distillery. The food was excellent . Amazing dinner and fantastic breakfast the following day . Room was fantastic but what really made it were all the staff who were all lovely, approachable , and nothing was too much bother at all . Even better the free bus to Bombay Distillery drops you off less than 100m from the White Hart . Highly recommended .

Had a great take away from The White Hart. It was ready bang on time and was still piping hot when I got it home. The portions were huge and filled up 3 teenage boys! The new manager is great and very accommodating. We will definitely be back!! Thank you.
