Let me start with this…awful from the service to the food. Food - dreadful. I had cheese burger, terrible dry digesting not worth £1 from Iceland let alone a “fish and chip shop” charging upwards of £5. Saveloy full of water? Didn’t even know that was a thing? Tasteless and vile. “Chips” might as well of been mash, tasteless and flaccid as jelly. Eaten here few times and always blamed time of day or the day of the week. No it’s gone from 4 star plus to 1 at a push. When I walked in one male staff said to the young female to serve me and she rolled her eyes. God I wish I walked out and not wasted my money. All gone in the bin, thank god for papa Johns pizza. Be warned, never again from me.

Went on recommendation for fish and chips the special offer had finished just 5 mins after we arrived When we asked for the child’s portion we were informed we were not children be charged and adult price no other offers were on The standard was not that good I needed bread and butter to soak up the oil

Family favourite for a take out. We do tend to avoid Fridays as they are so popular the queues are long. Fish portions can vary but it’s always delicious.

Had a late night fish and chips. Unfortunately because the chips had been piled on top of the fish everything had gone soggy. Poor chips too. Really disappointed as we were looking forward to them.

Drove minibus of pensioners there for lunch. Excellent value for money.

Fast service and food was hot and delivered quickly. Staff were lovely and friendly and nothing seemed too much trouble. Very small portions! A small cod and chips, 2 small drinks, 2 tiny bowls of chips (£3.50 a bowl!!) and a curry sauce - nearly £30!! So expensive. Always seems busy but definitely too costly for us to visit again.

We were looking forward to our first meal at Olivers. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The Cod meals were overcooked and dry, the garlic bread tasteless and the service was very slow. We won’t rush back.

5* great menu. Fresh fish, great kids menu, plenty of high chairs for the little ones in the restaurant. Service was quick and food was hot and tasty.

The food, atmosphere and service were amazing!! It's the first time we've been to Oliver's and it won't be our last!! I had the homemade fishcakes, so tasty, the best I've ever had!! The chips were also perfectly golden and not greasy at all!! My partner had the burger and it was super tasty!! We highly recommend coming here & we'll definitely be back!! If you want fish and chips in Basingstoke, go to Oliver's. Lovely food, quick service even when busy, wife and daughter love the halloumi fries. Cod tastes nice, its got flavour, not bland like some chippys.

Didn't like the mushypeas not what you expect from a chippy, fishcake was also very small on plus side the standard cod was OK as we're the chips.

Take away tonight. Very disappointing. Mushy peas were very disappointing from previous visits. Fish cake, small but good. All in all disappointing.

£25 for fish and chips and chicken nuggets and chips for a child!! Absolutely awful last few times I’ve been here it’s gone downhill. Chips are rock hard way over cooked and the curry sauce is like water!!

Overall a very nice experience, and would come again. Not too long wait times, friendly staff and food was nice.

We stopped off on way to see family and were very hungry. Waited 10 minutes and ate some of them in the car. Batter was not cooked properly. Very stodgy. Chips seemed to be small greasy pieces of chips mainly. My wife ate the fish inside the batter. For a standard cod was quite small. Took most of chips back and uneaten batter of wife’s. I had eaten most of my chips. Didn’t eat all of batter. The girl serving just said you’ve eaten most of it. She didn’t remark on the batter. I shan’t go there again and will not recommend it.

The fish and chips was average (only reason for the 2 star, without that would be 0) but the service was terrible! The two young people at the front obviously didn’t want to be there and apparently thats my fault as a customer. The cashier was rude and the server was even worse, will not be returning.

When they good they good but sadly consistency fails them too often. Was in last Friday for cod and chips, I received my order within 30 seconds but when I got home the fish was oily and dry, the chips were dry and hard. Come on is this the respect you have for people who support you on a regular basis. I've stayed away before and looks like I will be doing it again. If you can't give me fresh fish and chips then don't bother.

Close to the M3, this made an excellent stop for dinner during our journey from Somerset to Sussex. Fresh food, served speedily to our table; hot and incredibly tasty! Lots of options and diets catered for. No hesitation to recommend 😋

Great independent fish & chips restaurant . Great food. Friendly service. Competitively priced. I had the large fish and chips, butter and roll, and a coke. I'm now back in my hotel for an afternoon nap whilst my gut gets to work digesting all that delicious fishy goodness. Mmmmm. There was a smallish car park (but adequate for the place) and I slotted into one of the few spaces left during the Saturday lunchtime bustle. My only minor niggle was the roll was a bit 'meh' - a really fresh roll can make a big difference, but it was 'proper' butter so nothing to lose a star over. Thanks again to the Staff who were all lovely. There's also a takeaway service. Tips go to the staff so they were all happy! Whoddathunkit. Treat your staff the way you want them to treat your customers!

Very good food, service and prices.

Is this what’s to be expected when you order a chicken burger from a fish and chip shop? No love or care put into the food. I expected more from an independent restaurant. Pretty sure they wouldn’t get away with serving this in the restaurant.

We had cod, battered sausage, chips, homemade mushy peas and curry sauce. Delicious. Batter on yhe cod and sausage was light and crisp and not only. Mushy peas were lovely and the curry sauce slightly fruity and spicy. Total amount including a drink was £19, which is reasonable for the quantity and quality of food. Staff are friendly. We will be back!

Terrible food.., oily and not cooked enough chips falling on parts as too soggy and too oily not cooked well fish.. can not slough it as the oil stay in my throat… it’s end of the night now.,, otherwise could go back and return it!!!! RIP offf… the curry sauce was leaking all over the pot they put it in!!! I don't understand why this takeaway, I have never tried the restaurant, is so popular. I have tried it several times as it is local to where I live. I have found the batter very dry and tasteless. The chips aren't much better. Last time, it seemed the oil hadn't been changed. I know I am in the minority, but I find Olivers, very disappointing. I won't be going again.

Got fish n chips for the family on Wednesday 22nd Nov, as there was a big power cut in Chineham. The fish n chips were soooo good. The chips were crispy as was the batter on the fish. The service was great. The place was clean. The only down side was that the place is so popular, that there wasn’t anywhere to park. Lol

Still the best fish and chips in the Basingstoke area. The reason you have to wait is because everything is freshly cooked and the takeaway gets very busy. The car park is very small so you will probably have to use the road. It’s excellent service, great value and very, very tasty.

The food was very nice. However, be careful buying soft drinks by the glass as they are an absolute rip-off. £2.65 for a small glass of coke, what a con won't be making that mistake again.

Early evening decision to get some fish and chips. Had a scout across google maps for Basingstoke locations, found Olivers! We went approximately 7pm on a Friday night, absolutely rammed in the takeout room. But the staff were very friendly, and churning out orders minute by minute. Great service, great quality and quantity of food, great timings despite being super busy. Especially (and hard to find) great helpings of extra extra salt and vinegar. Without a doubt the best fish and chips in Basingstoke.

The lad who served me was not very welcoming,was as if he hated his job and didn't want to be there.The fish wasn't very nice greasy and no taste.

Oliver’s has been the go to fish bar for a number of years. Tonight’s experience was very good as usual the way that they take your order quickly and efficiently. I only ordered sausage and chips but it was very tasty. Highly recommended.

Battered fish excellent, chips a little overcooked, triple fried? I much prefer single fried chips.

How they have the audacity to charge for this slop is beyond me. Greasy box and dry chips takes some pulling off! Worst fish, sausage and chips I’ve ever been served and I’ve had more the most over the years!

I have been a customer for many years, but today the meal was awful the Pie was normal, but the chips where so overcooked they where completely hard and dark, I have never had chips from here like that, they where disgusting, they went in the bin, if I hadn't been driving all day I would of returned them, I cant understand why the young lady dished them up I was in the shop at 5pm ish, just looking at the chips made me feel sick. You have lost a regular customer, I will never return.

Average fish and chip shop i had Haddock that was slighty over cooked so a bit dry in places my wife had plaice that she said was'nt very hot so maybe had been on the pass waiting to go out too long . Only 2 waitress though very nice not very attentive need training perhaps so all in all could do better

Fabulous chips and tasty fish with excellent mushy peas. Not surprised that booking a table might be required.

First time visitor and recommended to us by a regular, who was with us. Excellent service with plates timed to perfection on serving. The table was cleared between courses and fresh cutlery provided. So many places don't get this right but not here. The food portions were well sized, served hot and the offer of as many condiments as we'd like. Very polite and professional staff who made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. No rushing of table clearing and we were even left with all plates until the last person finished. Again, so many don't do this but not here. Looking forward to returning on the next visit back to Basingstoke. Highly recommended and advice is getting there for opening, as we didn't book to dine in and it was quite full by the time we left at 1pm. 🐟🍟🍄🧄🥗

Amazing food, service could be happier!

We knew we wanted fish and chips and searched for the best place in Basingstoke. Oliver's came up tops and it's no surprise why. They've got a recently tarmacked parking area with plenty of spaces (maybe not so much on a Saturday night!) And a clear distinction between the restaurant and takeaway areas. It feels like either the takeaway section has been refurbished recently or it's just "Operating Theatre" clean and very impressive. There were lots of people waiting for their food, but they were clearing out almost as quick as they were coming in. I asked for advice on the portion sizes and they were honest and open and not trying to upsell their products. They said it was an unpredictable wait time, but should be 10 minutes or so. Literally 5 minutes later it was done and ready. It was piping hot and smelled amazing. Even by the time I got it home and plated it up, it was still fresh and couldn't wait to have it. The taste, quality and flavour of both the fish and chips was top class. The fish was crispy and a little oily, but not too fatty or swimming in it. The fish itself was flaky and light, tasty and cooked to perfection. The batter was crisp and delicious. The chips tasted like they'd been triple-cooked and had the right amount of salt and "vinegar" or non-brewed condiment. Would 100% recommend Oliver's for fish and chips any day of the week. 10/10 for sure.

Came across Oliver's on a detour trip home from London. We had cod and chips. The fish was freshly cooked to perfection. The chips were proper home made and also cooked to perfection. Staff were super friendly, polite and helpful. Ample off road parking. Easy disabled access. Prices were excellent. Will definitely be going there again.
