Kind and friendly atmosphere. Had my later partner's wake here, and they were so helpful and had everything ready. Good value for money.

**just not serving food** Just moved to the location and seen that a green king was near by. We could try there for food. Went in to be seen by the bar maid who was less than helpful. Asked if they were serving food. To be told no! I asked oh ok is that for today or for how long? The reply I got was, “we are just not serving food. Ok thanks good bye.

Not the place to go for a quiet drink but at least the drinks are OK. Car park is terrible, you are better parking on the road. Seeing as there is nowhere else within easy walking distance, it will still be busy.

Not very clean, glasses always dirty and tables always sticky. The Manager is not welcoming and can be extremely rude and very unprofessional. The Manager is usually sitting at the bar drinking - gets a kick out of talking about employees, employees that have left and customers. (Making up stuff that isn’t true and not being very nice at all) The manager bars people on the simple fact that she doesn’t like them anymore. They don’t serve food but do it for parties, if you saw the kitchen it came out of you definitely wouldn’t risk eating it. Also they don’t clean the ice machine, so if you are thinking about going there be very careful what you order.

Quiet local pub, pints are always on point! Major sports played on TVs comfortable seating, and on the winter time, pub fire is lit. Which is a lovely touch to a traditional pub. Lovely on a Sunday afternoon

Went for lunch and even though there is a sign outside they no longer serve lunch.

Stopped after work for pint, it tasted like beer and staff were friendly. Didn't eat but not marking it down due to that.

Great welcome - when we got to the bar the said they had an open jukebox... write your song on the sheet of paper and it will be played in order. Really got us involved with other people in the pub and created a sense of community. Great idea to start conversations as we all discussed our music loves and then why we love the songs so much.

Lovely lady Traci who manages the pub. Soo funny, great sense of humour and keeps this pub very busy.

Amazing local pub. Tracey, the landlady, couldn't be more welcoming. All the staff are amazing. Good selection of drinks and bar snacks. Open fire in the winter, sports shown and always some decent music on in the background if there isn't any sport. Regularly have live music or a decent dj. Real ale on tap that is well looked after. Top notch 👌

As if the service was miserable enough and the patrons were rougher than sand paper, they had the nerve to turn off the lionesses for a delayed arsenal game that 3 people came in to watch. Worst. Pub. Ever

Nice pub, with a better than average Greene King ale selection. Live music played on the night I visited, the locals and staff were friendly. Generally a good night was had.

Visited Basingstoke for a couple of days training, found the Golden Lion, great beer, great pub, very welcoming person behind the bar made us feel right at home and a great place to watch the football, thank you.

The land lady is miserable... The least she could do is smile whilst she's taking your money or welcome you to the pub. Would make it a more enjoyable place to drink if she cheered up.

No food, patrons look like they are under sentence of death.

There was only 4 people in pub all had drinks. When We got our drinks pint of fosters smelt awful red wine was congeeld never seen anything like it. Won't be going back there in a rush I use greene king pubs but not this one

Dj's in Basingstoke beware. I had a booking in place with Tracey the manager months ago at the Golden lion. I just rang up to confirm a karaoke for tomorrow night. Been informed, it's cancelled with no prior notice. Not the best way to run a business.

A bit chilly here, bar staff unfamiliar with the menu (maybe new?) and our order was slightly wrong but they provided 3 huge bowls of chips to compensate!

Huge improvements in decor and furniture. Very comfy and smart with helpful staff and new owners who introduced themselves last week. Only issue last night was they had problems with lagar delivery so no moretti😞

We ordered chips - they were soggy, slightly cold and just a bit sad to eat unfortunately. Won't eat there again.

The Golden Lion did an amazing job of catering for my Mother's wake. They catered for 40 people at a very good price. There was a huge variety of different fare to cater for all tastes including a veggie choice. Everyone commented that the sandwiches were the best ever. They included a large cheese platter with biscuits, cakes etc. and tea and coffee. I cannot thank Kirt and the team enough for their service and care throughout, which made a difficult day bearable. Dreadful... food came out wrong and cold... asked for garlic bread and cheese only got garlic bread, asked if I could get cheese... they literally took the dish grated cheese and grilled in the exact same position so the bits on top had melted cheese, the rest had nothing... chips felt like they had been taken off someone else's plate stone cold soggy! Ordered 2 beers got 3... not a massive issue until you have to pay for the beer thats been sat in the sun for 15mins. Overall good for a quiet pint bad for anything else

I can recommend this place to anyone that enjoy and appreciate a good meal. Not only you get a good value quality food also an A1 service too.

The food was lovely but unfortunately some of my order was missed contacted Deliveroo who refused to refund the missing items contacted the restaurant 3 times said they would sort out with Deliveroo and ring me back but have heard nothing since

Ordered fish and chip takeaway great quality fish food was not greasy .. my fella says proper job ... Five stars we will be using again

Below average Food, Paid £3.50 for large chips, standard sized portion arrived, it isn't a large compared to normal chip shop. Curry sauce was a large and was standard fare but the burger and sausage and bacon roll were disgusting, buns filled with fat, cheapest sausage used ( I wouldn't call ut a sausage as you'd struggle to find any meat), bacon was standard catering stuff. The burger was just wrong, no care taken, biggest piece of lettuce stem, soggy from fat, grizzle within the meat. There are plenty of better takeaways, go there not here.... Overpriced for portion size and quality Overall they are barely better than charcoal grill, chicmex and are nowhere near Olivers.

Service was bad, they hardly payed any attention to us while we were there, had to wait 25 minutes after arriving and multiple attempts to get their attention just to order drinks, which then took another 10 minutes to arrive while we watched our same server take another tables order and drinks over before we saw ours. No only that but they allowed a known peodofile move around without a mask and switch tables whenever they pleased. Definitely not going back anytime soon given how they treat non-regular customers, they obviously don't care about trying to recoup their losses over the pandemic so I'm not going to help them.

Best fish and chips I can remember.

Hands down the best fish and chips in Basingstoke. My first time ordering from the Golden Lion and definitely will order again. The food was hot, arrived on time and all time classic! 5 stars well deserved!

Nice cold Fosters after a walk to town. Update Just been for a takeaway during these times and I have to say it was great 👍

As I’m from Devon finding a decent chippy has been hard work. The Haddock was delicious, well priced and very fresh. 100% would recommend

A locals pub. Sky football was the main attraction. Food was ok.

Atmosphere: - Little bit of a vibe with the general patrons. Staff: - Only really have bartenders, can be slow when they're a bit busy. Food & Beverages: - Bland food without flavour. With some seasoning the food could be a lot better. The beverage selection is usual for a pub. Value for Money: - Portion size is good, but the food itself being disappointing. All in all not bad. Notes: - None.

My new local. Very good it is, too. Hand pulled beer, very well kept and pulled right 'n'all. Regularly has hand pulled Old Speckled Hen. We went there with our daughter to watch the second half of Liverpool playing and the bar lady was very rude did not want to serve us let alone smile and its advertised as a family pub ice for my drink was not available and she was not bothered and had nothing to offer my toddler for a drink ub

I love this place. Great for TV sports, atmosphere, friendliness, and superb menu and food at great prices. My first choice for either a pit stop or a whole afternoon and evening occasion.
