I found hair in my food it was absolutely disgusting and the manager told me to shut up when I informed her about it.

This is our go to place for fish and chips and sausages and chips. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and we are always greeted with a smile. To sum it all up in one word… brilliant. We will continue to use this as our weekly treat since we have never been disappointed. If I could give them more stars I would.❤️😊

I give this fish and chips restaurant a 3 star review. I came here about a month ago, and the service is very good, staff is polite and food doesn't take too long, only about 10 minutes. Also, the food tastes good. However, you lost two stars to my two complaints. One complaint is the fish is very fragile so if you pick it up to eat it, it falls apart. However, that isn't the main reason I'm complaining here. About 1 ½ hours after I finished my meal, I had a bad tummy and felt sick. Could've thrown up, luckily didn't However.

Just bought myself and my daughter lunch from youngs and it’s probably the best chippy I’ve had in a very long time! Curry sauce is delicious!

Bought chips which looked to be cooked in the same oil as the fish, so not even vegetarian. Bought tofu with green peppers and back bean sauce - got a horrific migraine. They clearly put dairy in it for some unknown reason, no warnings about it containing dairy. Not eating here again. If you have an allergy I'd suggest avoiding. They also don't take card, at all. So that and the lack of dietary information and putting dairy needlessly into what should be plant based meals, its like a classic 1990s chippy. 30 years out of sync. If you don't have any dietary requirements, and still use old fashioned money for some reason, this place is probably great.

EDIT :My granddaughter ate a battered sausage from here and within hours was being violently sick from both ends, not a bug as not been out for days so food poisoning is a probable cause her mother said the sausage did look a little pink but battered sausages can look a pink colour, so be careful and if it doesnt look or taste right dont eat it

Such nice food so much flavour for the Chinese an the chips an fish cooked in fresh oil all times travel from other side of Basingstoke just for this take away shop

Rude , over priced ,also had food poisoning, ( i think from chicken foo young).stay away from this horrible over prices rank takaway

Good fish and chips, large sized fish lightly battered. We have also ordered Chinese only several occasions and its good, sauces full of flavour and good sized portions. Will definitely use them again.

Chinese food is not amazing but fish and chips are good. Surprised that they don’t accept card payments in the year of 2023 though!

Don't go there! Terrible place. Took my young son to get a takeaway and we were completely ignored by the staff, despite being at the front of the queue. When I tried to speak out (in a very polite manner) I was shouted at by the lady behind the counter and told to go to the back of the queue! Very rude people with no manners. Never even got to try the food, walked out after being completely humiliated in front of my little boy. I'll never set foot in the place again!

This place Young's Fish bar in popley Basingstoke is a very good place for grabbing a Quick takeaway , the food is good and will suit everyone's taste buds, the staff is good , and they did give out the order pretty fast , only cash is accepted here and so do carry cash while going to this place, will give it a 👍for the quality of food and the price😊

Fish cakes and chips are great here, but the chips are a hit and miss sometimes!

Pretty much the go to on a Friday night, finish work, relax for a bit and get myself down to Youngs for a great Chinese!

Really good quality fresh food that I am happy to cross one side of the town to the other to get. Highly recommended.

Felt so ill after eating here. The food was expensive for how much you get. Very little portions and it doesn't taste good enough to justify the price.

First time using this place on recommendation and definately the last, 2 dishes missed off our order, and over charged, only discovered this once we got home, called to complain, had the phone put down on us twice. Wronguns.

Can't ask for more, good choice of Chinese takeaways and above the average standard. Friendly service and surprised their Fish n Chips are equally in high demand by the regulars.

Been coming here for years, I love their Fish & chips. Always fresh and tasty. Also love their spring rolls too, great to have a place which does both fish/chips & Chinese food. No need to go anywhere else.

Tried the fish and chips from this place as it was the only chip shop open nearby on a Sunday evening. Had good service and food so will return in the near future.

A few times we have had food from here. A pancake roll from here dripping with oil look cooked from the night before. Had a savaloy that was rock hard on the outside. Chips price hard doubled in the last few t Years and the portion size has shrunk drastically. Fish doesn't seem very fresh. I won't order chinese food from here after being very ill. Peters is a lot better

Have been in a few times, sometimes one till is for fish and chips and one for chinese, sometimes both will just serve everyone in turn... can be confusing and staff are rude if you get this wrong...

Busy place.....cash only....nice food

chips horrible and so obviously warmed up from either lunchtime or even the night before couldn't eat them. The Chinese food is expensive , bland and made from poor ingredients, i thought the menu said crispy chilli beef not chewy as hell rubbery beef, i don't have false teeth but if you do don't order this dish or you will be chewing for a lifetime! did find one bit that was crispy and how it should be but expect better for the price i paid and they don't even serve it in a reusable plastic container either like some other takeaways who charge less. In my mind this takeaway needs looking into, as the person who served my chips must have been able to see that they looked all shrivelled and dry and frankly inedible yet they still served them and then had the cheek to charge us for them, had a right mind to photograph them and send the photo to trading standards. I too had food poisoning from here several years ago and after my experience from last night i think i will give this place a miss if i want to avoid another bout of it as think both me and my partner had a lucky escape with only a belly ache this morning. So avoid if you expect good food, avoid if you don't carry cash, they only take cash and def. avoid if you don't want a bad belly as the high grease content they use will def. give you that!

Food is OK but no card taken here and price is a little high

Awful food and so disorganized that you have to wait ages for your food to arrive. Plus they clearly have no idea of the difference between own made pea fritters and brought frozen ones. I asked if they were own made and was told yes, when the food arrived it was a flat processed fritter clearly made by a machine. The fish was definitely not Cod and whatever it was I wouldn't feed it to my cat.

I used to use this fish an chip shop all the time they were really good. But just lately the chips sometimes dont seem so good an at over £5.00 a portion of fish an chips not quite as a good deal as it used to be

Fab choice of food to choose from - fish and chips or Chinese. Staff very friendly and efficient and the quality of the food was excellent, with good portion sizes and very good value for money. Would definitely go back soon!
