What a place! Great real ales, excellent home made pasties and open fires .
There's also an impressive mead selection and commodes for chairs. Great place for a lazy pub day with the dog
I was walking to the Spar shop and saw this beautiful Chocolate shop and could not resist going in. So glad I did! The Belgium Chocolate covered Marshmellows are divine! My Mum loves the coffee creams I brought her andy Dad loves the chocolate covered, Rum & Rasins! ❤️
Spectacular! I highly recommend visiting this chocolate shop! Good prices and delicious chocolates! 🍫❤️
We visited Broadoaks for afternoon tea on Mon 3 March. It was spectacular! Normally there is not enough savoury and too much sweet but this couldn't have been better. Lovely sandwiches, brioche rolls, sausage rolls, mini quiches made up an amazing platter; we have never seen anything quite like this.
The scone was the perfect combination of crispy on the outside, soft in the middle and didn't crumble when the jam and clotted cream were added. The desserts were all home made. The chocolate ganache cake was to die for! The chef even prepared two Portuguese tarts as a special extra. My wife had a vegetarian platter which was equally perfect.
Patrick who managed the afternoon tea service was friendly, entertaining, super helpful and incredibly smartly dressed! It was worth going to the hotel if only to meet him! Chelsea at reception was a lovely, friendly and bubbly person.
Overall this was the most extravagant afternoon tea we have ever had; it was the height of decadence and a wonderful experience!
We moved to Ambleside not too long ago and Dodds has become a firm favourite. My wife loves the lasagne and I enjoy trying all of the daily specials. Would highly recommend
We have been here 4 times now and it never disappoints.
A wonderful building, which creates a wonderful and relaxing ambience.
Staff are very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful
Food is amazing...thank you for such a special evening, we WILL be back
I've been a loyal customer of Hazelmere for years, but after our visit yesterday, I’m left questioning why I keep coming back. Sadly, this isn't an isolated incident — it's part of a steady decline that's hard to ignore.
First and foremost: it was freezing inside. Absolutely unacceptable. Yes, we all know energy prices are high — but that’s not the customer's problem. If you're charging premium prices, the very least you can offer is a warm, comfortable environment. We, along with several other customers we spoke to, sat shivering with our coats on throughout our meal. Frankly, it felt more like eating in a draughty train station than a reputable café.
As for the food? Decidedly average. Nothing wrong, but nothing particularly right, or memorable — and certainly nothing to justify the eye-watering prices. Hazelmere has never been cheap, but in the past, it was worth it for good quality, pleasant surroundings, and service to match. Now? The only thing that’s consistent is the staff — who were lovely, to be fair, and attentive despite everything else falling short.
But let’s get real: Approximately £15 for a tiny bowl of soup and a dry, uninspired sandwich? That's bordering on outrageous. When I’m paying those prices, I expect food that feels like it’s been made with care — not something that could be knocked up in five minutes at home.
To put it in perspective: we recently dined at The Inn at Whitewell — a top-tier restaurant known for quality. Their famous Whitewell Fish Pie? £17.50. A beautifully made, generous dish in stunning surroundings. So why is Hazelmere, a tea room, charging nearly as much for what feels like a limp, café-standard lunch? It doesn’t add up.
If you’re popping in for tea and cake, Hazelmere still delivers — but for a meal? Save your money and go elsewhere. Until management sorts out the basics — heat, quality, and value — this once-loved spot is coasting on its former reputation.
Lovely menu with some great choices, I had a Buddha Bowl which was fantastic, good selection of drinks, super friendly staff and a cracking location. I would recommend you try it out..
