Delicious food and friendly service, reasonably priced.

Super friendly staff, who went out of their way to help us. Delicious food (we had tomato, avocado brunch) and really decent coffee. We'll be back.

We grabbed a late afternoon table before the evening rush, so it was pretty quiet. I've been in before and mainly just had drinks and churros. It's a lovely room. The light floods in, and the decor is very cool. On this occasion, we spent just over £20 each on bread, potatoes, and three mains. It was all so tasty and perfectly cooked. Looking forward to coming back to try some more dishes!

Overall the food was good, one or two slight missed steps (Patas Bravas, Chorizo in red wine) but the rest was full of flavour and great value.

We are in 98, the sister place two doors down. It's a great Tapas bar, very nice atmosphere, great selection of food and drink and friendly attentive staff. I've put three stars for service as one of the waiters dropped a small container of sauce on one of our parties lap. Very apologetic an helped to clean up. Good place.

We ate at the pub next door, which we believe is part of the Comida restaurant. Apologies if it isn’t, but that’s what we were led to believe by your waiter. Here’s the story of our meal: We wanted to try Comida after seeing good reviews online but, honestly, we don’t have many positive things to say about it. We didn’t have a booking and there were no tables available for us, but the nice waiter told us to try next door (the pub), as the food is exactly the same, no difference whatsoever. Off we walked the 30 seconds to the pub. The place wasn’t busy, maybe 4 or 5 tables taken. First thing we noticed was how cold it was. Not freezing, but uncomfortable. We found our own table and grabbed the menus ourselves. Order was made at the bar and the lady serving us was quite pleasant. There was obviously some confusion with table numbers, as we kept seeing servers walking around to every table, tapas in hand, and asking whether customers had ordered them. This meant we received 2 dishes that had already made the rounds (bread and calamari). Eventually we received the rest of our order, or so I thought - we were still missing the Valencian fried chicken. Not wanting to eat with our hands, I made another trip to the waiter station to get some cutlery, plates and serviettes - no one cared enough to bring us some. Patatas Bravas - they were clearly double dipped, i.e. fried and re-fried. They were almost see-though (clear sign of being deep fried twice), oily and so beyond crispy it was tough to bite into them. I could tell they’d been sitting out in some chip basket and quickly dipped again to warm them up. We didn’t finish those. Albondigas - if I was a betting man, I would put money on them patiently waiting under the hot lights for someone to bring them to our table. Any part of the meatballs that wasn’t hiding in the tomato sauce was dry, hard and darkened. We didn’t finish those either, but the sauce was ok. Roasted cauliflower - there is “roasted” and there is “burnt”. The ones we received were the latter, as in, the top of them was black. Again, probably too long under those lights, waiting for a hero to come and save them. Valencian Fried chicken - this could’ve been a good dish, but again, it was so dry and hard to bite into, I guess it suffered the same fate as our previous choices. Paprika mushrooms were good, so was the bread, and the calamari, despite them being a bit cold due to the numerous trips made to other tables before it reached us. Why am I leaving this review here and not on the pub’s page? This is your food, and it’s a disservice to you and a deterrent to potential customers to have it served in such an appalling state, with so little care for “your” customers. No, we didn’t complain to anyone about the food. There was no check back at any point during our meal and we just wanted to leave ASAP. I think we lasted less than an hour in there. The night wasn’t all a disaster though. We went back to the lovely pub where we’d had a great meal the previous night and had dessert, served by someone who was actually happy to have us there - the highlight of our gastronomic evening. We’re not interested in going back for a second visit but I felt this should be highlighted.

Very friendly staff and the food was fantastic! We shared 7 dishes between us and were full to the brim. Favorite dishes? We loved them all but the artichoke hearts, octopus and mushrooms were amazing! Everything was very well cooked. We will definitely be back.

Comida is by far my favourite eatery in Kendal. The kitchen team deliver high quality ingredients combined in carefully prepared and striking dishes. Spanglish breakfast or poached eggs sobrasada is good for a budget or if you want to push the boat out every tapas I've tried has been amazing. They have WiFi and good coffee too.

Dog friendly! Good value and great food

Our 2nd visit to Comida and we enjoyed it more than the first time. We booked for a pre-concert meal and were overjoyed with our evening tapas selections. Not an extensive menu, but who cares when the food is this well prepared and presented, especially the bread and butter pudding with chocolate - heaven. Very highly recommended, we will be back on our next visit to Kendal.

Really nice place. Friendly, and attentive staff - without being intrusive. The food, as you would expect with tapas, comes as it is ready. It was nicely prepared and piping hot. I really liked the meat balls and the mixed platter. Padron peppers were good too. My wife enjoyed the spicy King prawns. Not too pricey a sharing platter, 4 different 'small' plates and 2 beers - £46. We found this food sufficient for two. Order more at any time if you are still hungry. We will be back soon.👍

Tapas dishes were good, served in quick succession which will suit some but not others. Nearly all the drinks we tried to order were out of stock so we ended up with just tap water. The toasted beans at the starter were stale unfortunately. Service marked down a couple of stars for not bringing us one of the desserts ordered. It's a busy vibe and the music was good, nice decor and lovely big windows onto street. Nobody rushed us out which was nice, given how busy it was.

Went in here to eat tapas at 16.00 hrs and was told to come back at 17.00 hrs, so we spent an hour round kendal and when we returned we were told all tables were booked. Shocking customer service and no option at 16.00 hrs to book a table for later. This was going to be a birthday treat but will never return as the the same lady told us at 16.00 and refused us at 17.00 hrs.

Excellent! Perfect espresso, delicious vegan patatas bravas with guacamole, finished with lovely vegan hot chocolate. Friendly staff and sumptuous toilet facilities! You can even charge your phone whilst you eat. I have visited twice since, and equally impressed with the food. Definitely recommend.

Second visit here, lots of tapas to share, the food was great but just felt that three of the dishes could have been presented a bit nicer, if that’s the right word to use.

Best tapas I’ve had for a long time! It was a busy Friday night with a great vibe about the place. Highlights included the warm bread with aioli, Valencian Fried Chicken and the unreal churros for dessert! Highly recommend if you want a speedy, friendly and delicious meal out in Kendal :)

Fabulous tapas and best of all a great experience for my coeliac daughter to try delicious tapas. They really understood cross contamination. Lots of choices too - she had meatballs, tortilla and patatas bravas. There were lots of interesting flavours and many new dishes to try.

Superb! Couldn't have enjoyed this experience more! Beautifully prepared food, wide choice of dishes, all of which are imaginative, presented attractively, and taste fabulous . The lovely bonus for us was the gluten-free options. My partner is gluten intolerant. Unusually, there are loads of dishes to choose from here. It's not often my partner and I can share a meal together so easily, so if you have gf diners in your group, this is a great place to dine out. Staff are really friendly, informal, but professional, and really helpful and informative about the food on offer. Our waiter introduced us to Bombon coffees! Quite a revelation. Great experience in every way. Not surprisingly, it's advisable to book if you want to sample these delightful dishes. Great value for money all round, too. Although this was recommended by multiple people, the food portions were small. Service was slow. My one star is for the sangria which was nice. Will not be returning. Also please sort out the fly infestation. It is disgusting to eat around.

Great find in Kendal. Lovely waitress and service. Food excellent and fresh. Everything came up hot and delicious. Amazing gluten free selection. Spoilt for choice. They also have a bar/pub two doors down where you can wait if your table is not ready. Setting is rustic so only slight jiggle was a little uncomfortable seats but that might have been down to our long journey more than the seating.

Brilliant place. Very busy on a Saturday night so lots of atmosphere. Food takes as long as it takes but its well worth it and the safe take good care of you if you want drinks etc. Great time.

My mum booked here to celebrate my 50th birthday as I live a long way away from them. We all had a wonderful time and the whole evening was wonderful. The Tapas menu worked perfectly and made the experience a lot of fun. The venue is fab and it all made for a very memorable evening!

We had a lovely meal here, which we managed to book online only 2 hours beforehand. We had all vegetarian tapas and there was a lot of choice, they were really tasty so we struggled to pick a favourite! We also shared some red sangria, which we would recommend too. The staff were all friendly, and very easy to get the attention of if we needed anything as well due to the intimate nature of this restaurant.

Called in on spec following recommendations from others and absolutely not disappointed. Fantastic choice and quality of tapas food all served with a friendly smile from the attentive staff. Highly recommended and will definitely return. Good choice of beer and wine at reasonable prices.

Ate here for lunch and I was so impressed by the food and the service. We booked Comida because it had great reviews and we needed somewhere that does gluten free. I'm so glad we chose to come here. My latte was lovely and we both enjoyed our lunches including the gluten free chocolate brownie. The staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Highly recommended.

Fantastic place. Locals and visitors, all ages from families with youngsters up, and all having a great time. Super friendly, good wine, fabulous food choices whatever your diet and good tunes gently surrounding you in the background. One of the best places I have ever been to.

Gorgeous spot with a lovely atmosphere but sadly was met by a very unfriendly and unhelpful staff member who, when asked if they had a table for 4 - not only rolled her eyes and sighed before saying she would check after we mentioned we didn’t have a reservation - came back very short and brief to say. “Uhm no. Nothing.” When there were 5 empty tables. We don’t mind being turned away - it’s really just the eye rolling and unwilling attitude that was met. Won’t be back unfortunately as locals sadly.

An amazing pre-walk feed from Comida on Saturday! Such a lovely dog friendly restaurant that serves some great tapas on Kendal’s main high street. We found this place by mistake and I am so glad we did! All the sauces were amazing, especially the garlic aioli 🤤 I would buy a tub of that stuff!

Great food, friendly staff, quick service and lovely chilled atmosphere. The fig and hazelnut salad is totally deliciously, but everything we had was tasty, fresh and well cooked. Four of us just filled our boots (including drinks, dessert and tip) for less than £100. Fantastic place.

I set expectations looking at the google score which was very high but I was very disappointed. Our experience wasn't good, the price of the tapas is high for the quality, presentation and quantity. Not good value for money. The kids left hungry Some of the tapas were really small and overpriced Parking is not possible in the streets. Definitely lesson learnt.

Food was nice, but one dish turned up late. Also we asked if we wanted the desert menu or anymore drinks and we said no, a few moments later we were asked to leave as the table was required. We had been in the restaurant less than an hour. We walked past the restaurant about 20 minutes later and our table was still empty and there were other empty tables too.

Short review: Spanish cuisine in Kendal. Good food, friendly staff. Recommended! Detailed review: The title and the frosted windows got us intrigued about this place when we were in Kendal. The name is self-explanatory that one will be treated to Spanish food in this restaurant which also has chic interiors & warm ambience. Located on Highgate at Kendal Town centre, Comida has great breakfast and good tapas options from noon onwards, which made it ideal for our Sunday brunch visit. We were lucky to get a table despite not having reservations. Quite certain this place would be packed in the holiday season. We had the Albóndigas with patatas and extra mozzarella which was extremely flavourful and tangy. All three elements of the dish were satisfying and umami. The crispy beer - comida cerveza and bombón (shot of expresso & condensed milk) complemented our dish and was quite refreshing. We decided to try the special of pigeon breast with interesting accompaniments. The meat was a tad dry but intensely gamey. The beetroot tapioca tuile was a little tough, but the sweet potato fondant was our favourite as it was soft, flavourful and balanced the protein. The servers were kind and friendly. The washroom was clean & funky. All in all, a good experience.

We visited in the new year with our dairy-free daughter. The service, atmosphere and willingness to make lovely food without milk was amazing! The fluffy pancakes were especially good. Would love to come back for savoury tapas next time.

We had an amazing time here on New Year’s Eve!! Staff are absolutely wonderful, so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. The food came out so quickly and everything was absolutely delicious, wish we’d gotten pictures! Highly recommend the buttermilk chicken, that was our favourite but it was all so good. Sangria was amazing as well. It was the perfect end to our weekend break, we will definitely come back when we’re next in Kendal!
