Our visit to Greens Cafe & Bistro for breakfast left us sorely disappointed. We expected fresh food after enduring a half-hour wait, our anticipation turned to dismay when the lackluster breakfast finally arrived. The lukewarm temperature did no favors to the uninspired fare. The sausage, with its tough, plastic-like skin, seemed more like a culinary misstep than a morning delight. The cold bacon, hinted at multiple reheats and those beans—served in a perplexing metal ramekin—defied logic by being the only barely-hot element on the plate. As for the toast, it appeared to have merely waved at a toaster from across the room. Alas, our breakfast adventure was a regrettable expensive detour which we won't be repeating any time soon.

I work locally, and every week I have a takeaway sausage butty from Green’s. It’s just the best ever - really tasty sausages on lovely soft bread, together with a top notch flat white coffee, and always served with a smile and a chat. The perfect start to my working week. I’m not sure where England P had their breakfast, but from the description, I’m positive it wasn’t Green’s!!

Visited Greens for lunch today. The service was great. My food arrived quickly and was well presented. The food was of an excellent quality, tasty, fresh and hot. It had been tailored to suit my needs - nothing was too much trouble. Due to the main meal being plentiful, I had to take my dessert with me! I can recommend the Bakewell tart and tiffin. I will definitely visit again. The staff are amazing.

I have not seen such a delicious and healthy meal since I have been in Northern England. And he delivered it to my table in under 10 minutes because I told him my tour bus was leaving. Honestly this is a culinary oasis. The salad was DELICIOUS!!! The side of brown bread was crusty and warm. I love love loved this place. Highly recommend Thank you, Tom!.

We've been to quite a few places to eat in the lakes this year and it's mostly been an absolute rip off, you can easily spend over £25 on parking alone in a day between different locations, 50p to go to the toilet, but this place breaks the mould. It's probably cheaper than most if not all of the places we've eaten at this holiday (2024) and the food has been high quality. The service from the moment we entered was first class. The staff were so attentive and in tune with each other. We'd ask for one thing from a member of staff and seconds later, someone else was at our table with what we'd asked for. Excellent for children too with the best and healthiest meal we've been able to choose for our child. He had a nice cheese and ham wrap which was served with lots of fresh fruit. He loved it. Every time we've visited here we've enjoyed it. We need to go back before the end of our holiday so I can try their beef chilli! Couldn't recommend enough. I think a lot of what would have been the regular places we've went to in the lakes have just been a major letdown with extortionate prices, poor quality food, small portions and poor customer service.

We were welcomed in at 3.30 pm on a rainy April day, when all the other cafes and restaurants in Grasmere had turned us away or closed their doors. We were soaking as were our dogs but Greens turned out to be a haven for the tired walker, looking for wholesome nourishment. We met the lovely Karen, the owner, who left a London life to create something special in the lakes, a more wholesome and healthy offering than your average. Generous portions arrived, seemingly all home made. I had a very simple but delicious chicken and humous sandwich accompanying a thick warming red lentil soup. Followed by a glorious slice of their home-made Bakewell tart, made with an abundance of ground almond, less sugar and hence healthier than anything you would buy commercially (or even in Bakewell, where I had recently been). The staff (Karen’s offspring?) were lovely and attentive, and showed our dogs a lot of love. We left feeling that fate had handed us a winning card in bringing us to Greens!

I live in Cheshire and first visited Greens 4 years ago. I enjoyed the food and ambience very much so I have tried to return many times when I am in the area as I was this week. I completely respect that Green's can and do open whenever they want to (good for them!) but it is frustrating to drive all to Grasmere, pay a £4k parking fee and then find Green's is closed as I did yesterday 22.02.24 at 1120 hours. I tried to call first to find out if they were open but the phone no does not work, nor does the 'new phone' number. I just wish Green's would update the phone no so customers can check to see if they are open before wasting time travelling there and money on the carpark to only to find they are closed. This has happened to me three times hence I am writing this review - please sort it out Guys. My cycling friends from Cheshire also suffered the same experience as this.

Excellent in every way! We sat outside on a beautiful day, well situated for watching ‘life’ passing by! It was busy but staff were very attentive and we didn’t have to wait long for our food, which was delicious. I had the Herdwick lamb curry with warm flatbread, raita, mango chutney and salad followed by scone with raspberry jam and clotted cream. The curry was the best I have eaten, the lamb so tender, and the scone fresh and light, with intense raspberry conserve. My husband had soup and a sandwich both of which he thoroughly enjoyed, followed by a substantial portion of Bakewell tart and custard, his favourite! We will certainly remember to eat there again when we next visit Grasmere! We fully recommend it.

Recommendation of Cat Pissed IPA...yeah...I know...but really try this very refreshing citrus ale....very moreish...!! But to more important matters.... Those lovely felines.... What a place to call home..!! Very well looked after and pampered by their Hooman Slaves Em & Luke...!!!! Let's face it...never in human history have we ever owned a Cat...!!!! Remember folks...just like Hoomans...cat's need a bit of peace and quiet too..so always check their website to see if you're allowed in to share their kitty world in doors...!!! Support this local business by popping in for a couple of beer's...take some home even...!!! We've been coming here for a few year's now...and it's just a peaceful place where you can chat with like minded folks... Keep an eye on event's that Em & Luke put on...you won't be disappointed...!!! Enjoy....!! Ian & Linda Palmer. 😺😸

Grubby! Salt and pepper pots needed a good clean, tray drinks were served on was dirty. Staff were not invested in the customer experience; not very welcoming and music was overpowering, it seemed to be on just for the staff. Radiator badly positioned right next to seating, lots of clutter around. The sausage rolls and pasties looked very anaemic yet carried a hefty price, not home cooked. Not recommended.

Visited Ulverston today for the Dickensian Weekend and what a fantastic day it was. Looking for somewhere to stop for a drink and a bite to eat we popped in. It was super busy and they were quick to accommodate us, very friendly staff warm and welcoming. Would definitely return Thank You x

Looked at pictures and menue. Drove here, only to find it's closed. Looks like it's been closed for years
