Deja Vu in South Lakeland

Really lovely evening, very attentive friendly staff. The food was gorgeous, cod and salad as delicious starters then we had a mixed paella for two. All the food was amazing. We’ve been to this restaurant several times and it’s always been top class. We will definitely be back soon.

Perfect. All courses were well presented and very tasty. Daube of beef was perfect. My crème brûlée was the best I’ve had in a long time - and I eat a lot as they’re my favourite! Staff attentive and welcoming including the owner. Proud to have such a fantastic restaurant in our home town.

I organised a walking weekend for 22 people and we all decided this was the place we should eat The atmosphere is nice food great quality and not overpriced , there is a good selection to choose from , the wines are superb staff courteous and knowledgeable We all loved this place there was not one bad word to be said by any of our party Well done we will return

It’s a shame that the staff and atmosphere were abysmal in both this customer service and personal attitudes. I would not recommend to anyone visiting Kendal as it really put a damper on our visit. Upon “correcting” our booking time, the staff were belligerent throughout our long seating. Firstly, the 50 plus minute wait for our main meals after starters felt like a mild inconvenience in comparison to being gaslit by who, I assume, was the manager about us supposedly being seated 30 minutes before our booking. They then blamed us being too early for the lateness of our food, even though they seated us at 7:30, no mention of our early arrival as we ordered drinks. After the drinks had arrived we proceeded to order food, we were then so impolitely informed by the staff that we were to expect “a bit of a wait” on our food due to the fact. We understood there may have been some miscommunication and mistakes happen, unfortunately the staff did not share in this view and blamed our party for “lying” about when we had booked. Has this been communicated to us on the door and in a gracious manner, we would have happily waited. It does seem coincidental however that our table was set and ready and we were seated promptly, quite possibly the only positive thing about our experience this evening. After our food arriving 1 hour and 20 minutes after initially being seated we had high hopes for the food quality based on the reviews. Another disappointment then came into effect when the food came in small portions, full of oil and lacking in any seasoning, at which point we didn’t feel it worth bringing up to the staff due to prior negligence. 2 of the meals were actually quite palatable but due to the coldness from staff none of the experience was enjoyable. A last ditch effort was made to put our point across about being accused of lying about our booking time, the senior member of staff made a snarky comment and happily wished us out of the establishment. Would not recommend.

We arrived for the last meal of our family holiday this evening at the time of our reservation. Two of us arrived first and were seated straight away, family followed in a few minutes later. We were seen to by a waitress, ordered drinks and then our food - only to then have a senior staff member come over to us and tell us our booking was actually half an hour later than we had arrived and we would have to wait for our food as another table was being served before us as they didn’t want to pressure the kitchen. This restaurant is very small and if this is the case, why would our table of 6 be ready for us to be seated at the time we arrived if we were actually half an hour early. We then proceeded to struggle to get more drinks as the waitresses were eating bread at the bar. We waited about 1hr 25min for food in total. When one of our party raised the wait to the staff they were very defensive and proceeded to blame myself and my friend who arrived first by saying when we walked in we said we had a booking at the time they had us down for. Which is not the case and we couldn’t believe the blatant gaslighting. Why would we purposely arrive half an hour early to a restaurant. The senior staff member did not want to entertain our perspective and we were shocked by their blame the paying customer attitude. We were offered no discount, or complimentary food (which was bland) or complimentary drinks as a way of diffusing the situation. As we left the restaurant we mentioned the way we were treated again only to be met with the senior staff member blaming us and stating that my family actually arrived 10 mins after my friend and I. We arrived at 7:27, we were all sat at the table by 7:35. Overall I would not recommend this restaurant due to hostile attitude, abysmal customer service and disappointing food. Not a nice way to end our family holiday.

Tonight we had mixed Paella takeaway. It was excellent. We have eaten here before and the food and service are always superb. Thank you 👍

It was my wife’s and my honeymoon and this was the best food we could have had. My wife is gluten free and vegan and the options were delicious and safe. The service was incredible along with the price being super reasonable. I would definitely recommend to anyone travelling to Kendal.

Would definitely recommend and revisit this lovely bistro. Three of us turned up on Friday evening and the restaurant was busy and buzzing, with a great atmosphere. We hadn’t booked but they managed to accommodate us and we enjoyed a great vegetarian paella, some gorgeous rosti and dome very nice wine and low alcohol beer. There are really good GF, Vegetarian and Vegan options. The staff were lovely, helpful and friendly. Our after dinner coffees were good. I only wish we’d had room for dessert, but we were full. We’ll definitely be going back!

We have visited many times but we’re disappointed this time with the starters . The polenta with Mediterranean veg was tasteless and the veg consisted of only grilled aubergine. The salmon roulade was so cold it had no taste and the garlic aioli was bitter and acidic . However the beef daube was very tasty as were the desserts.

We had a lovely meal here on new year eve. The menu was vast with many excellent choices. I've had the specials starter/main, and the food was so tasty. The staff were very attentive and helpful. We'll return again if we are in the area.

Consistently good food, prepared with tasty imagination and served by friendly attentive staff. We love the variety of the starters and mains; good sized portions. Particularly appreciate the option of a "mini" dessert which, when you are already quite full. It finishes the meal off at a reasonable price. The main courses we enjoyed tonight ("special" lamb shank and confit of duck) were seasoned perfectly, in my opinion. Very tasty. Fran may no longer be in the kitchen, but her brother has joined the team and is doing a fab job 😍.

Good evening meal out - had a series of tapas dishes, all of which were good. Menu was not quite as the website which was a shame as what we had particularly wanted wasn't on offer, but all in all a good evening, and reasonable price.

If you're in Kendal or Lakes area this is a MUST. This place was recommended by our Airbnb owner - initially fully booked but we got in Sat night due to a late cancellation. Was sensational and we highly recommend. Lovely owner, fantastic food and great ambiance.

Went with my husband for dinner for my birthday, I had sea bass & white chocolate & stem ginger cheesecake while my husband had beef & chocolate brownie. Both meals & desserts were absolutely top notch & we really enjoyed them, the staff were warm & friendly & very attentive, they even wrote happy birthday on my dessert plate which I thought was a lovely touch. We went for the Paella and it was fantastic. We did not have any other puddings in our 11 nights in the the lakes, but we are so glad the waitress left a dessert menu on the table. We went for the 4 mini puddings, which both my wife and I really enjoyed the selection. If the waitress had not left the menu on the table we would not of had a pudding. Hardly ever disappoints, with adventurous, tasty food. We both had the pork cheeks in red wine which were excellent. Very cleverly, they also tempt you with miniatures of their super desserts ! Their white chocolate and ginger cheesecake was to die for.
