Lovely place. Food was excellent and service very speedy. Definitely worth a visit. Will certainly be going back again.

Very disappointed with the staff. Unsmiling and disengaged. For example, there were no serviettes or forks and when we asked the staff, they placed a pack of unopened serviettes on the shelf next to the bar, and some forks into the tray, without making eye contact or saying anything at all. In response to my Google review the owner dismissed my feedback by telling me that the staff were not rude without asking about why we were disappointed.

We had intended to be somewhere else which was closed , & headed down a lane to this venue following signs, & wondering if we might truffle out a lunch . We were not disappointed. This is a little find , both the farm shop downstairs & the café up the stairs. I had a soup ( parsnip & apple) and ham batch combo , husband opted for soup & cheese scone. Great comfort food , & nice cuppa too! We didn’t get to watch the cows being milked (3.30 pm) but watched them on a screen in the café making use of what seemed to be an automated back scratcher….

Good food service and atmosphere. Better than recent reviews suggest 🤔. We went as we were staying nearby but were a little concerned at recent reviews. Had a drink in the bar first then asked if we could have a table and eat. Easily accommodated by friendly staff. The food wasn’t the best ever but it was good standard pub food.

From the moment we walked in I knew we were going to have a relaxing lunch. The servers were friendly and welcoming, we had a nice table near the fire (we had reserved a table) and our dog was greeted too. I had the vegetarian Sunday lunch (just the cauliflower cheese with all the veg - although nut roast was on offer had I fancied a vegan option), my daughter had the beef. Both meals were served quickly and we had two delicious plates of food. The puddings were equally as good - sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie were our choices. The Ship is an extremely clean and tidy traditional looking pub with an open fire and warm friendly atmosphere on what was an extremely wet and miserable day outside. A perfect way to spend an hour or so on a Sunday afternoon. The car park was a little tight and there were no spaces when we got there but fortunately there was some off road parking right next to the pub. We would definitely recommend The Ship and hope to come back when we visit the Lakes again.

Recently moved to the area and dined here several times now with friends and family visiting me. The staff are all very personable and hands on, service is excellent. The food is also very consistent and does not disappoint. I have thoroughly enjoyed everything I have ordered here, my Bedlington terrier, Dolly, particularly loves the Sunday roast - her favourite meal "treat" of the week!!

2 night stay at the hotel with tasting menu the first night and breakfast both days. Views are incredible and can be seen from the front of the hotel, outside seating area, some of the indoor breakfast tables and some of the hotel rooms. Our hotel room was a double room (fell view), lovely sunrise view from the large windows, plenty of space and storage, comfy bed. The full English breakfast was lovely. Tasting menu had 5x courses plus bread and canapés. Delicious meal and staff very friendly. Lovely lounge area with topped up fire place. Good location for getting to Windermere and around during the day by a short car journey. My one pointer would be the heating in the bathroom was stuck on full blast, I appreciate these old places are prone to damp but it did feel a bit wasteful. Overall lovely stay and will be back

We called in at the Cornish Bakery to pick up some provisions before a day’s walking in the lakes. What a gorgeous little bakery with friendly, welcoming staff. We would recommend the almond and cherry croissant, as well as the chocolate twist. We also grabbed some lunch to take with us and recommend the spiced cauliflower and onion bhaji pasty, as well as the chicken masala pasty - both brimming with filling and delicious, unusual flavours. Couldn’t fault the food, the staff or the venue - a great spot to sit in, or grab some tasty snacks to take with you!

Nice day in Ambleside, we were looking for a nice pub for lunch. Saw this pub with board saying ‘beer garden at the rear’. So we walked through the quiet pub, down some fire escape steps, past some bins then found the ‘beer garden’…… No kind of beer garden I’ve ever been in, couple of tables, fake grass, rubbish bins, beer barrels, ash trays (overflowing). My wife had gone the bar on way in, the wonderfully helpful barms said “I’m not doing food outside”. Grumpy as Mr Grumpy. Frankly I wouldn’t have had food sat in the ‘beer garden’. Shambles!
