Family dinner yesterday evening. Limited but good selection of food choices on the menu, a couple of which had sold out but what they did have was served promptly and satisfied five hungry people. I tried the Black Bass from the specials board. If it is indeed the Ship's chef that came up with that dish, they are genius! Really really enjoyed it. Good range of beers cellared excellently and served well. It's the first time we've been in the Ship since new management have been in place and the welcome and service are as good as we've come to appreciate at the Ship. Price point: there or thereabouts. Not too expensive for good food and drink provided well in a lovely, friendly environment. My dog was made most welcome too which is just as important.

The food was ok ,and a nice atmosphere too .The problem is the car park is so poorly lit , our car struck a dip down while reversing .A huge dent and scratches were evident in the day light . I would go back if the car park wasn't pitch black !

A lovely setting, an old inn but tastefully refurbished recently. Absolutely fantastic meal with my family whilst we were staying in Coniston for half term. My son had allergies and they were fabulous and spoke to the chef direct to confirm his needs. The Food was the best we had eaten all week. We Would thoroughly recommend.

We popped in for some lunch and were richly rewarded. The food was fantastic and I had a choice of mains, unusual as I'm vegetarian! A gorgeous interior and very welcoming staff. The service was swift. Very accommodating for children as well and there were plenty of dogs too. The perfect place to grab a bite to eat. Will definitely be back.

The Ship was highly recommended by friends who regularly stay nearby. We dined there in the summer on a day trip & enjoyed it so much we went back again last week for lunch. Mushroom soup was the best we've ever had. Friendly staff, excellent service, dog friendly bar but plenty of tables in next room if you're not a fan.

The building is full of character, and the staff were very friendly. Being able to park for free was a bonus. The range of options on the menu was adequate, however all chicken dishes were unavailable at the time of our visit, therefore choice was restricted. The quality of the food was fine, but the quantity left much to be desired, resulting in an overall questionable value for money.

Small but suitable car park adjacent to the pub, but tricky getting in and out of. It’s a very dog friendly pub, so great if you’re visiting the area with your four legged friend. Landlady was very welcoming and we sat in the far room - which on reflection was perhaps a poor choice as the room with the bar in it is a bit more comfy with nicer decor. Food was served in a nice timely manner and was reasonable in price.

On a 4 day tour of the Lake District, this was our last night in our VW Campervan. We were booked into CAMC Coniston Coppice Park. The Ship was our nearest pub & it was 5 mins up the road, ideal. Great atmosphere & typical pub ambiance plus it was a Robinsons beers. Sadly no Unicorn bitter on tap, but a good selection of beers/ wines/ drinks on offer. Food offer was good & wholesome. The burger was enormous, my steak was excellent & the fish/chips/mushy peas( you could choose garden peas but that’s not reet). Overall a good pub.

After being trapped in our campervan for a couple of hours due to torrential rain, we made a run for it in a brief relapse, and headed for the Ship. The welcome was warm, the service efficient, the food excellent and the Iron Maiden inspired Trooper ale superb- so good in fact, that after 3 pints, I bought the glass!! Can thoroughly recommend the Ship, away from the bustle of Coniston, and retaining plenty of character as a traditional Cumbrian pub. Thanks to the staff for making the start of our wedding anniversary visit ( we were married at St Andrews, Coniston in Sept 2003) a good one! Mike & Suzanne

I had the Ploughmans which was probably my best ever! The plate was "full" and besides a generous portion of both cheddar and red Leicester there was a slice of thick cut ham, salad, coleslaw, chutney, pickled onions and a fresh bread roll. Excellent. We did not need to use the toilet facilities but, if you are disabled, before going there it may be worth checking if they have a disabled loo as the toilets I noticed had a steep step to manoeuvre.

The locals seemed to be hostile towards out of townersOverall would not recommend coming here, textbook tourist trap.

Myself and my girlfriend came here on a saturday eve, walking over from Coniston town with our dog. I entered to enquire about a table and also to check that dogs were allowed. Speaking to the woman behind the bar, she told me there was atleast a 2 hour wait for a table. This seemed a long time considering afew people were leaving as we entered, but took this at face value and went to speak to my girlfriend to see if she wanted to wait or if we should move on. We didnt have many other options at this stage so decided we were happy enough to wait in hope that a table would come up sooner.I went back in to confirm and there was another staff member present so i asked to be put on the waiting list. Strangely, this staff member said the wait would only be about 10 mins and within 5 we were sat down at a table. This other member of staff was very friendly and courteous. It was bar service so i went to order some drinks. Unfortunatley it was the woman from the start again - i waited at the bar for 10 minutes watching her walk into the room behind the bar, coming back out again to pretend to refit the receipt to the till, before finally conceeding and turning around to ask ‘what do you want’.I then was back at the bar to order the food, unfortunately it was her again :) I was told it would be atleast 1 hr 30 wait for the food. Given the earlier experience I was curious whether this was the case or whether this staff member really had it in for us! Fortunately her colleage corrected her that the wait time was now up to an hour. Food arrived in 20 mins and it was great.Later on again, this member of staff walked into me whilst sat down; i was sat out of the way and being a busy pub no one else had even slightly clipped me but it was a solid shunt with no apology. She was then cleaning tables nearby and singing obnoxiously around us, as if to deliberatey be irritating. She completely ruined the evening for me. We’d been to various other pubs in coniston that day and had had a great experience. These types of things don’t usually bother me, but this member of staff really made it unpleasant. I feel bad for leaving a 1 star as everyone else in the pub was great and the food was lovely, but it was genuinely that bad that I couldnt give more. I’m sure the owner of the business and colleagues are aware ofWho I’m referring to and it was noted from their expressions when she was being rude to us. If i had an employee like that in my business I’d want my customers to tell me as if this is a regular occurence it would be seriously detrimental (hopefully its a one off!).

This pub is about a mile outside Coniston just set back from the main road. Decided to take a walk with the dog and was pleasantly surprised. Didn’t eat here so can’t comment on the food, but had a few pints of the excellent Dizzy Blonde. Well worth the stroll if you are staying in Coniston.

I contacted The Ship on the Friday afternoon to book a table and was told no booking was necessary as it was first come first served which suited us as we wanted to eat early at 17.00.On arrival we found an empty table and went to the bar to order drinks and food.At this point we were told the restaurant was full and expecting a group of 28 people who it appears had managed to book. When questioned the lady behind the bar had no explanation and suggested we could wait 2 hrs for food or carry on into Coniston.I was very disappointed as we had walked there and we had very few options open to us.I wouldn’t have minded if we were made aware earlier in the day so please be careful of their booking system or indeed lack of it.

Came across this pub as it's near to our accommodation. Would definitely come here again! Although there was a long wait time for food as it was so busy, the food was delicious with huge portions so was well worth the wait. The waitress was so friendly and even helped save my boyfriend from a wasp.

Barmaid wanted £36. I said, "£36 for two puddings and a pint and a half?" She immediately reconsidered. "It's £29.50.". She printed me a receipt and said, "You asked for extra custard. Life isn't free, sir." I had indeed asked for extra custard, for which I had only been charged a pound. But obviously, people who query bar bills in the Lakes are regarded as the lowest form of scroungers.

Tempted by window display. No prices displayed, shocked at prices. Asked if I wanted vegan sausage roll warmed. Outside was warm, middle stone cold. Stodgy, salty filling. Would have preferred a Greggs. Over priced and disappointing 😞
