From the moment we walked in I knew we were going to have a relaxing lunch. The servers were friendly and welcoming, we had a nice table near the fire (we had reserved a table) and our dog was greeted too. I had the vegetarian Sunday lunch (just the cauliflower cheese with all the veg - although nut roast was on offer had I fancied a vegan option), my daughter had the beef. Both meals were served quickly and we had two delicious plates of food. The puddings were equally as good - sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie were our choices. The Ship is an extremely clean and tidy traditional looking pub with an open fire and warm friendly atmosphere on what was an extremely wet and miserable day outside. A perfect way to spend an hour or so on a Sunday afternoon. The car park was a little tight and there were no spaces when we got there but fortunately there was some off road parking right next to the pub. We would definitely recommend The Ship and hope to come back when we visit the Lakes again.

We were on a short break 29th - 1st January in the area and called in for food and drinks. We really felt at home and were welcomed very warmly. The food was lovely so we decided to book in for New Year's Eve for food again. We stayed for the Quiz which was very good. Family dinner yesterday evening. Limited but good selection of food choices on the menu, a couple of which had sold out but what they did have was served promptly and satisfied five hungry people. I tried the Black Bass from the specials board. If it is indeed the Ship's chef that came up with that dish, they are genius! Really really enjoyed it. Good range of beers cellared excellently and served well. It's the first time we've been in the Ship since new management have been in place and the welcome and service are as good as we've come to appreciate at the Ship. Price point: there or thereabouts. Not too expensive for good food and drink provided well in a lovely, friendly environment. My dog was made most welcome too which is just as important.

The building is full of character, and the staff were very friendly. Being able to park for free was a bonus. The range of options on the menu was adequate, however all chicken dishes were unavailable at the time of our visit, therefore choice was restricted. The quality of the food was fine, but the quantity left much to be desired, resulting in an overall questionable value for money.

Small but suitable car park adjacent to the pub, but tricky getting in and out of. It’s a very dog friendly pub, so great if you’re visiting the area with your four legged friend. Landlady was very welcoming and we sat in the far room - which on reflection was perhaps a poor choice as the room with the bar in it is a bit more comfy with nicer decor. Food was served in a nice timely manner and was reasonable in price.

On a 4 day tour of the Lake District, this was our last night in our VW Campervan. We were booked into CAMC Coniston Coppice Park. The Ship was our nearest pub & it was 5 mins up the road, ideal. Great atmosphere & typical pub ambiance plus it was a Robinsons beers. Sadly no Unicorn bitter on tap, but a good selection of beers/ wines/ drinks on offer. Food offer was good & wholesome. The burger was enormous, my steak was excellent & the fish/chips/mushy peas( you could choose garden peas but that’s not reet). Overall a good pub.

After being trapped in our campervan for a couple of hours due to torrential rain, we made a run for it in a brief relapse, and headed for the Ship. The welcome was warm, the service efficient, the food excellent and the Iron Maiden inspired Trooper ale superb- so good in fact, that after 3 pints, I bought the glass!! Can thoroughly recommend the Ship, away from the bustle of Coniston, and retaining plenty of character as a traditional Cumbrian pub. We were a large party of 12 but unfortunately no-one can book a table on a Sunday! This is rare these days as people like to plan their mel times. We knew this is advance as we had been before. We waited for a short while and then the table was ready. This wasn't 1 table but we were spread across 3 separate tables which couldn't be put together and some had to sit elsewhere. This happened last time and this time we thought they would only allocate eating when it was ready for the whole party. Most went for the carvery. The vegetables were very good and the turkey really moist but the beef was so tough that you really needed a steak knife to cut through it. Overall a disappointing experience based upon the service, food quality and price/value for money.

2 night stay at the hotel with tasting menu the first night and breakfast both days. Views are incredible and can be seen from the front of the hotel, outside seating area, some of the indoor breakfast tables and some of the hotel rooms. Our hotel room was a double room (fell view), lovely sunrise view from the large windows, plenty of space and storage, comfy bed. The full English breakfast was lovely. Tasting menu had 5x courses plus bread and canapés. Delicious meal and staff very friendly. Lovely lounge area with topped up fire place. Good location for getting to Windermere and around during the day by a short car journey. My one pointer would be the heating in the bathroom was stuck on full blast, I appreciate these old places are prone to damp but it did feel a bit wasteful. Overall lovely stay and will be back

Just popped in for coffee. Good friendly service and very nice coffee, priced as you would find elsewhere. Didn't eat but the display of pies and cakes looked tempting. Gluten free cakes available as well.

Good, old fashioned tea room. Warm and cosy. Good tea in a massive tea pot. Excellent toasted tea cake. In contrast to some of the recent reviews, we found them very friendly (and have on previous visits). It is up for sale. Hope the new owners don't change it too much!
