Wow. We've stayed in many places around the lakes. Others don't come close. A lovely quaint, country pub with lovely traditional rooms. Cosy, comfortable and clean. Tea and coffee in the room topped up every day for us. The people here can't do enough for you. They also treat my dog as if she were a paying guest. Great location for lovely walks, top notch food. We stayed 3 nights and ate here every night. Jess and John, the owners are an absolute delight. Everyone involved in this place are just gorgeous people who can't do enough. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough. We're already looking to book again next month. Home from Home. THANK YOU

Booked a two night stay, but couldn't stay for the 2nd night, the room was cold and damp. The blind in the bathroom was moldy. The heating didnt work, there was a small plug in heater but it wasn't very warm. As other people have written the locals make it obvious that they don't want you in "their" pub. On a plus the food is very good.

Bed had what must have been a 40 year old matress on it, with no springs, the room was tired, the breakfast appalling, served in a dirty room. The locals think it is fine to leave you blocked in the car park, and the staff just say, yep the local farmers do that. Our room was fully refunded, which was a credit to them, and the staff were friendly, but clearly they are not keen on tourists, especially as our table for dinner was in a packed bar of drinkers, with people banging into us all evening, when the restaurant was nearly empty. The food was average, and at £110 per night, it is very poor value

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the white hart inn for our stay at the lake district, we stayed from monday-friday and I can genuinely say the service was amazing. We were asked daily if we needed anything for our room, the room was spotless and lovely. It’s exactly what we needed for our get away, we ate dinner here most nights and everything we had was amazing. We also had breakfast included and that was spot on , ended up getting the eggs Benedict every day lol! Every person in the team was so welcoming and gave us an amazing experience. I will definitely be coming back and I would definitely recommend it to others 😊

Living in the South Lakes there are many good places to eat however the White Hart at Bouth for me is up there with the best. I have eaten here on several occasions now and today’s experience was as good as ever. The Club Sandwich which comes accompanied with salad, plus crisps, plus coleslaw really is a delight and what’s better it’s just shy of £10. Keep up the great work - staff are very pleasant and well mannered too!

We booked a meal with family whilst visiting the area to celebrate my husbands birthday. There were 8 of us and the meal was okay. The room we were sat in was cold, there was a fire but we couldn't feel the heat from it. Four of us ordered Steak, 3 were Well Done and all of them were more like Medium, I sent mine back and it came back and was still Medium, looked like all they had done was sear the ends!! We went for a meal as was staying nearby and was dog friendly. Not sure if I would go back again?

Would like to thank Jess and John for there warm welcome. We stayed at the Inn for two nights. The food was excellent and the breakfast was great, with my favourite eggs benedict, cooked to perfection. The Inn was located outside the main tourist areas which made it a lovely and relaxing place to come back from after a day out. The room was comfortable and clean, I would certainly recommend the Inn to stay. Thanks again.

Worst customer service ever experienced. Like many other reviews there is a strangely aggressive grey haired man who is the manager here. Me and my friends arrived after a long journey, and wanted a glass of wine. We are all 23/24 for reference with one of us not having ID on us. The woman behind the counter immediately had an attitude and felt offended we’d even asked for a drink. She rudely said she she sees “the one without ID” drinking then we’re out. Picture of an idea was offered but also rudely shut down. We complied and sat down, then (strangely aggressive) man comes running out explaining he’s watching us on CCTV, it’s “his pub” and “he doesn’t care”. Frankly the whole experience was really weird and laughable. We explained to him we understood the think 25 rule but to make a huge scene in the pub when we were polite and minding our business just felt so over the top. Honestly don’t bother coming here, turns out he’s getting a bit of a reputation in the local village for this. Good luck white hart inn!

We are staying in Ulverston. Our friends chose to come up and join us on our holiday for a few days and opted to stay at the White Hart in Bouth. We had climbed Scafell Pike on the day they arrived so were pretty hungry, and booked a table close to the end of service on a Sunday with them. We ordered 2 Baked Camembert and a Smoked Black Pudding with egg and bacon bits for starters, followed by 3 Ribeye steaks and a pie. The starters came out, only the 2 Camembert arrived. We asked the waitress where the Black pudding starter was and she said that she would go and find out. It seemed to take an age and the waitress passed us twice whilst we waited. Then, completely out of the blue, we can only assume, the manager, came over to the table very aggressively and said to my wife "is there a problem?" to which I interjected and started to explain the starter situation... Then he continued to my wife "you were staring at that young girl over there" (the waitress) Yes she was, because we were waiting for a response and wondering when she was going to come over and help us. If its an offense to look at somebody in anticipation when you are awaiting a response, then that's news to us! My friend took a dislike to the man and started to speak up, to which Mr managers response was "was I talking to you?"... After trying to reason with him, to which he wasn't listening, he just said "whatever" and returned to the bar. Anyway... The waitress did come back, and said unfortunately the Black pudding starter was out of stock... fine... why did nobody tell us that when when we ordered it. If it was forgotten about... also fine... we are very aware that people make mistakes and it would have been forgiven, no problems. The dish was replaced with the potted shrimps eventually. What wasn't fine was the disgusting attitude of Mr manager, who should be leading by example and not showing his young staff exactly how not to run a business. I sincerely hope these staff move on and find somewhere to work where they can be properly trained and be great at what they do! They weren't bad kids at all, they just need some guidance from a customer services professional... certainly not you. Having said that, the Camemberts were really nice, the steaks were all well cooked, the Pie was nice. A real credit to your chefs. Its a wonder to us that they want to work for you. The potted shrimp just Brown shrimps in melted butter and a bit of toast and pea shoots, a bit disappointing but OK. So our friends sit in their room at your pub tonight looking for somewhere else to stay for the next 2 nights as they were shocked by the attitude of Mr manager and to be quite honest, felt uncomfortable and intimidated. We hope you're proud of yourself. Get out of this game and do something else where you can release all that aggression. Maybe MMA is for you? To anyone that decides to come and eat or stay here please don't get yourself into trouble by looking at the staff, maybe wear some dark or mirrored shades? We wouldn't recommend this place at all for sure. Avoid it like the plague.

First time visit to the Lakes we stayed here for two nights, we arrived 7pm Friday night the pub was busy the atmosphere was chilled with families enjoying a drink and food the staff was very friendly and helpful too. Breakfast included between 8-10 there is a choice of cereal or cooked breakfast so we had both. Breakfast was delish we tried full english on the first morning then second morning i had omelette my partner had Egg Benedict it was beautiful bit of food cooked by the owner, also hot and cold drinks available. The views from the window are fab seeing two horses the first night and deers the second night. Its located in a nice quiet area where you couldn’t even hear cars passing its fab for a chilled break. We travelled by steam train on the Saturday which is based 5 minutes from the B&B we got the train to lake side then a boat to Bowness and back all timed well so your straight off the train onto the boat and vise versa, a fab day out for £50 for two. We got back to the B&B around 6pm it was busy again but very chilled i asked for soup of the day and could i change the bread as i am gluten free and there was no issues the food was delish, there was a fair few dogs but all well behaved we stayed out drinking until around 1130pm. Locals was lovely and friendly and gave us some tips on places to visit. This wont be our final visit we will definitely come back and stay again and in near by places we loved it. Thanks guys

We have been going to the White Hart for over ten years but not very often recently, and never again. This Pub was a haven of good food, fine ales and nice atmosphere. It now resembles a Harvester or Beefeater restaurant. We could have been in Manchester for all you knew. The bar has lots of fizzy lagers, the food is generic and deep fried hollow chips. I gave two stars as it is okay if that's what you want, I just didn't want it and am basing that on what it used to be. The staff were nice and the food was okay if you like that kind of thing, and apparently lots do. I booked weeks ago as we wanted a specific table and was assured we could have it, phoned two weeks before to make sure and again was assured the table was booked where we asked. We arrived and were promptly told we were sitting somewhere else. I was shown to a sterile room with three tables in it. It had the atmosphere of a doctors waiting room with a speaker in the corner blurting out old music. The food as stated was acceptable but not what we expected from the previous visits. There were two burgers on the menu, one was a venison burger with onion relish and a standard burger. We asked if we could have the venison burger but with the ordinary accompaniments. The waitress enquired but told us that the "chef" said it was not possible! Draw your own conclusion what that means. There used to be a good selection of specials but these were non existent now. The heart and sole has been ripped out of this pub and replaced with a plastic generic food place. This will suit many and is not horrible, it's just a shame that a once very respected food inn has become this. This is to cater for the masses with as little effort during the summer months. This pub used to be full of people passing through who live locally in the off season but I will not be one of them from now on.

After a day at the lakes zoo, we decided to go for a pub meal. Walked into the empty pub, sat down with multiple children to be told rudely that the pub was fully booked. There was no signage to indicate this and staff were aware of us there seating children in high chairs etc. The manager then came over watching us moving to leave, I said quietly to my partner "their loss, they've lost £200". Then a short, portly grey-haired man who was eavesdropping said aggressively and visibily shaking "well that isn't very nice is it". I told him to calm down and not speak to me, to which he roared comically "get out of my pub". It was as if he'd lived out his childhood dream of being Peggy Mitchell. We laughed and called him that, walking out and it was a blessing anyway as it smelled awful in there with zero atmosphere and dog hairs everywhere. Honestly avoid at all costs and do not risk bringing children here as very rude. Not surprised to see similar reviews recently.

Apparently years ago, the White Hart was well renowned and highly recommended. Not any more! We popped in last night around 7pm. Very busy ... not because it deserves to be, but only because there are hundreds of visitors within walking distance. The menu is typical pub fare and expensive. We chose 3 starters, two of which, black pudding and egg and garlic mushrooms were edible. The third choice, Potted Morecombe Bay shrimps, was absolutely rank, and at £10.95 a total rip off. A few miserable shrimps drowning at the bottom of a tiny ramekin half full of fully melted butter, oil and undercooked garlic. In summary, the epitome of "tourist trap".

Stayed here for 1 night in a family room. Beautiful little inn in the most wonderful setting...surrounded by mountains and so tranquil. It is a very old inn with lots of low beams. This made it all the more appealing. Room was very clean and beds were comfy. Our bathroom was across from room, it was for our use only so wasn't a problem. Provided with plenty of towels. Our dog was able to stay with us for an additional fee of £5. Breakfast was wonderful and was served in a room with a great big window looking out on to the lovely view outside. We didn't have dinner here as already had eaten when we got there but we saw the food being served to other guests and it looked so good that we wished we had eaten there. Lovely bar area and staff were lovely. A large car park to rear of inn. Would stay here again.

I've lived over the hill to The White Hart in Bouth since 2010 and enjoyed many a meal at various times of the week and year. The local staff were always convivial and the food plentiful and menu, varied. Due to our circumstances, we haven't been there since early last year. Turning up there tonight, a Saturday night was full of presumably unsuspecting punters like me. The change in layout, staff and miniscule specials board, should have alerted me to the change in management. The waiter service was OK which let me drop my guard. I had their £20 "surf and turf" (frozen breaded scampi and tough rump steak and fries). My partner had the fish and chips which we thought was a safe bet. When the main courses came, the potato chips on both our plates were burned to a crisp and inedible. The Ulverston Beer Battered cod they served couldn't have been freshly cooked as the batter was hard and inedible. We sent ours back and went to leave. I think it must have been the new manager, a grey haired man, who shooed the waiter from the till and attended to us, then kindly offered me a 10% discount on the main meals for the burnt chips. I told him in no uncertain terms that the food served was inedible and I wasn't paying for it at all as it was sent back. I paid for our coffees and starters which were OK but then it's hard to muck up Nacho's out of a packet. This used to be a great little pub. I've no idea what has gone wrong other than the new management but it's the lake district and there are a ton of great pub restaurants in the vicinity...sadly, the White Hart is no longer amongst them.

A really welcoming pub and B&B. Under new ownership and management, always a worry if it’s a favourite place to go! But a lot of the staff have been retained and Lee the new manager was really lovely. Food excellent, both dinner and breakfast, room super clean and the morning birdsong along with the magnificent view out over the fields and woods is a proper tonic. I wish the new owners all the best and I’ll definitely be back!

Barmaid wanted £36. I said, "£36 for two puddings and a pint and a half?" She immediately reconsidered. "It's £29.50.". She printed me a receipt and said, "You asked for extra custard. Life isn't free, sir." I had indeed asked for extra custard, for which I had only been charged a pound. But obviously, people who query bar bills in the Lakes are regarded as the lowest form of scroungers.

Tempted by window display. No prices displayed, shocked at prices. Asked if I wanted vegan sausage roll warmed. Outside was warm, middle stone cold. Stodgy, salty filling. Would have preferred a Greggs. Over priced and disappointing 😞
