So this listing is wrong. The resturaunt is the Waterbird and the hotel is now a different listing called the Lakes hotel and Sa. Ate at the waterbird this weekend and it wasnt a great experience. The maitre d was very rude about wanting us to order because "our kitchen cannot cater for a lot of meals and we have a large booking coming" despite us arriving at the time we was aked to come for. Both meals were good but not great Pidgeon was tough and the stake wasnt cooked as asked. For £15 starters and £25+ mains you expect the best not average.

We visited the Burnside last summer. It has since been awarded a 5* rating and is called The Lakes Hotel I believe. Looking forward to our stay how disappointed we were this time round. The room (a hot tub room) was definitely not 5*. The room lacked basic 5* facilities: no tissues, minimal toiletries, no shaver plug, extremely poor hair dryer, no iron, nowhere to put toiletries in bathroom, bathroom fan not working. The meal on the evening was extremely poor. We waited 28 mins for a drink on the terrace before our meal and the service at dinner was not 5*. We asked for water and received one small glass of water which was never topped up during the meal. The starter, scallops, was poorly presented and plain. One main course, duck breast was so chewy I left most of it. Some of the veg was over cooked and dry and some hard and under cooked. When my plate was cleared away the waitress asked “how was your meal” and I replied “not good really, it was poor”. The reply was “oh” and my plate just taken away. The service throughout and facilities are definitely not 5*. You’d be better spending a little more and visiting one of the true 5* hotels in the Lake District.

Wow what can I say other than one of the nicest hotels we have ever been to. The staff were brilliant and the whole hotel in general was perfect. The attention to detail in the room was outstanding. You are never a guest, you are a customer and one who is likely to be treated by the staff as an inconvenience to their day. No water in room, iron was cheap useless with buttons missing, asked for a negroni cocktail was refused though they had all three spirits in stock with the components being 3 equal measures but no set price for them mixed together ( resolved by buying individual shots and mixing them together !! Staff ignorant as inattentive. They asked for £50 for extras which turns out to be for the fact that unbeknownst to most customers car parking is £12 per day which is taken from the £50 so cannot be disputed... worst 4 star hotel in the lakes I have stopped at for service.

We have just left after a two night stay at the burnside. From start to finish it was excellent the room was clean, spacious and we even got upgraded On arrival having spoken to a lovely lady on reception when we rang to book. We had a meal on the first night and each course was delicious. The next day we had a dip in the pool which nice and relaxing. The breakfast is just what’s needed to start an amazing day off in the lakes. Plenty of selection from cereals, yoghurts to a full English. We definitely would recommend the hotel and the location is great to access bowness but also the ferry point which can take you on a tour around the lakes Thanks next time we will bring the dog

A nice Hotel but extremely over priced for what it is. Room was nice but shower barely had enough power to have a proper shower. Breakfast was nice and also used the restaurant one evening and found that ok. Found we had to wait for sometime on many occasions to get served at the small bar as barman kept disappearing Spa again was ok but nothing special 2 sun loungers in the whole place, top Jacuzzi far too hot Again a mid range hotel charging top end prices far better hotels in the area

Upon arrival we were told that my wife’s spa treatment had been cancelled due to staffing issues. Huge disappointment as this was my wife’s birthday present. Asked why we hadn’t been called and told as this was a major reason for the stay. Staff member snapped back that views and hotel itself is enough. Room was ok. But for 300 plus I was expecting a little more. Hot tub balcony was open to the pub and spa car park. So zero privacy. Then tried the spa. Which was across a car park, into a pub, over crowded. No room in hot tubs, taken up by groups of men who seemed to be on a drinking session. Young kids dive bombing in the pool. No issue with either of these things just not in a spa! Re treated to the room and phoned reception to explain it wasn’t going well and we were slightly disappointed. Receptionist snapped back that we could leave if we wanted. So we did. Asked to speak to a manager who didn’t once apologise. Then as we were leaving, the manager cracked a joke about us to another guest. Extremely rude and complete lack of interest from all staff members overall. Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Just astounded by the attitude of the staff overall. Garry Preston

A distinctly average hotel charging 5* prices, don’t pay it! Argh I hate leaving bad reviews but we’ve just spent three nights here, two of those were on the New Years package and the whole thing was such a let down. We paid £1213 and it was a total non event, the food was terrible, over cooked and a random mix of ingredients, like something from the 70’s. The afternoon tea was laughable, cheese and tomato sandwiches on white bread with dry, stale cakes to match. The main event, the tasting menu on NYE was finished by 9pm and then they left us all stood around wondering what to do next, no atmosphere, no band, no entertainment. Staff advised us to walk down to the lake to watch another hotels fireworks. The only good thing about this dated, old fashioned hotel is the newly refurbished hot tub rooms. This place needs to learn you can’t charge that kind of money and deliver such poor quality. Really disappointed as we were excited to visit the place for the first time.

We've stayed at the Burnside several times as our family has grown up over the last 20 years. It was always good value with a pool and leisure block ideally situated near the business pier. More recently the leisure facilities have been changed to a Spa with pool& 2 Jacuzzis, movie theatre and casual snug bar, all v good standard. The restaurant is now refurbed and the standard of all rooms has been elevated. The prices reflect this but the overnight deal price is unbeatable in the area, £139 including dinner b&b.; Or pay up to £400 per night for the best room.

I asked for car park camera footage to be sent to me - I kept chasing the hotel every week after our stay as they didn’t bother to send me the footage. When the manager finally called me he said “sorry the footage has now been deleted as it is only saved for 24 days” (very convenient!) Also, when we stayed part of the car park was being ripped out and re- tarmacced throughout BOTH of our days at the hotel - constant loud noise from machinery, jack hammers, road saws and digger - I couldn’t even hear my partner when we sat outside the spa restaurant to eat on one of the days - no apologies from management for the loud noise either! In general terms the staff are excellent in that they are courteous, have a friendly approach and will endeavour to resolve any issues you may have. The layout of the hotel in our opinion is good with a selection of lounges you can sit in and enjoy a drink, meal or chat. All are nicely decorated but not sure if the distressed leather furnishings matched the contemporary decoration in the rooms which had the glitter paper on walls. A more contemporary approach would I believe further enhance the rooms.

We ate at the restaurant and found the staff to be very pleasant and attentive. The food wasn't excellent and we did not feel it was good value for money. U understand that with posh nosh sometimes less is more but on this occasion we still felt hungry after 4 courses. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious though. The best bit of the stay was using the spa facilities and the lava shells massage. I especially liked that you could access the bar from the spa. The bar staff could use some customer service skills though... they were a bit miserable. To summarise we enjoyed our stay but the food and pub staff could have been better.

On arrival to the Burnside hotel it looked amazing... the location is brilliant and the interia decor was just amazing... We got a room with a hot tub and was so made up thought nothing could possibly ruin our time spent there... We used the bar for a drink before heading into the town for a walk about as we were having our evening meal back at the hotel... when we arrived back and went for our evening meal we were not greeted, I had to go and find a member of staff to help us... We got seated and was offered a glass of water... no offer of any other drink was given, untill dessert which I had to ask for. I got a reply of confusion from the waiter which I was really confused, as the impression I got from the hotel was that you was there to relax and booking a table means u don't have to chase drinks around a hotel... there was only one girl working on the bar which was serving for the bar and for the people dining.... the staff i found was very rude I was really not impressed the way we was treated.. not by reception staff the lady there was lovely... I would suggest a meet and greet session was held to help the staff recognise how to treat guests.... especially when you are paying the prices they have on there menu. Other than that our room was gorgeous...

Loved the room, except trickle shower, came back to room second day especially to use spa. Signed in and was told how to use lockers. Sadly neither of us could get a working locker. Out of 24 lockers in both changing rooms 10 lockers were out of service. We was not told before entering, so we both got changed then found non in use, when querying with staff we were told that the lockers had been like that for months and they were waiting for them to be fixed. When telling reception they declared they had no knowledge of this and they thought all lockers were working. It was suggested we just leave our belongings in an unlocked locker!!!! Needless to say we did not use spa, which we had so much looked forward to.

Lovely hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Rooms were very nice clean and comfortable. The room where my other sisters were was beautiful with a hot tub. Spa area was very nice but the only thing was the pool was a jacuzzi as well. Which I think was not very good as I have heart problems and am not allowed in a jacuzzi with the bubbles on as it can stimulate the heart. I feel that as there is two Jacuzzis you don't need it in the pool as well. But It would not stop me from going back to this hotel as it is well worth the money we paid. Our rooms had gorgeous views of the lake and boats.

Beautiful hotel and even better spa. Really classy rooms, staff, brilliant breakfast spread and relaxing spa. Natasha in the spa gave me and the missus a massage and it was more than worth the money - lovely lady as well. Clever bar linked to the spa for drinks whilst relaxing in the jacuzzi. Easy access to Bowness (5min walk)

We booked in for dinner as we were staying the night. Little bit of a wait (seemed longer waiting with a baby lol) but it well worth it. We both had a starter, then canapés were brought out whilst we waited for our main. We both ordered the Pork Neck. Portions weren't huge but tasted so so good. Staff were accommodating.

Dinner here was really good. Canapés , then monk fish wrapped in pancetta & a ravioli for starters were both delicious. Great steak & red mullet for our mains & a shared cheese board to finish, all tasty & well presented. The staff were very friendly & even accommodated me to put a musical candle on the cheese board for my husbands birthday! Cooked breakfast was also very good

We were looking forward to our trip to the burnside as it is dog friendly and near all the local amenities. We arrived at 3 checked in and were allocated our room. This was clean but a bit small it was called a snug. I would book a slightly bigger room next time as it was also a bit dark., we normally have one with a balcony however we booked late, so we're just glad to get in. We can also normally sit anywhere in the hotel with the dogs apart from the restaurant which is understandable, however on this occasion when we went in the bar to buy a drink we were told we could not sit in the bar but could sit next door. So we sat in the what I would call silver room. We had a couple of drinks, sat there on our own with the dogs until a new member of Staff came in and said we should not be sitting in their either. This made us feel uncomfortable especially when the chap who served us the second time did not say anything. We stayed where we were and finished our drinks. It appeared we could only now sit in the central area with dogs near the stair case. This was the only area that had not been refurbished. Does this mean when this is refurbished you cannot sit anywhere with dogs, considering we paid £40 for the two dogs for one night found this a bit unreasonable. A further regular customer also told us she had complained. I hope this is not the way it's going to be that long time regular customers who have enjoyed staying at the hotel only relegated to one area. The refurbishments appear to be a bit Chavish instead of the country house appearance of before. Let's hope it doesn't change to much and retains its friendly feel . Let's see!! As we do enjoy going.

A lovely hotel which was immaculate throughout. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was awesome.Despite the bar being expensive we loved the Spa which included steam room, sauna and pool with jacuzzi and plunge pool. These is a separate bar at the spa which also provides food. A gym is also available along with a cinema and pool table. Highly recommend this hotel which is within easy walking distance to the lake side and town.

Just returned home from the Burnside Hotel after a fabulous family break away.We have been visiting the Burnside as a family for a number of years and can honestly say each year it gets better.Sean the Concierge is a welcome addition to the hotel. Sean is friendly, informative and so professional. Hopefully he's there to stay.Reception, bar and restaurant staff all friendly and efficient. The only negative was being asked to pay bill on arrival, and also having to pay £50.00 deposit for each room on arrival.Apart from that everything excellent, will definitely visit again..

Highly recommend this hotel, could not fault anything. Our room was large and beautifully decorated, with a massive bathroom. The breakfast choice and quality was second to None! Every member of staff we encountered, were friendly and professional, especially the breakfast staff. The spa was immaculate, although quite busy with children, it didn't interrupt our relaxation, we were lucky to have the only 2 actual loungers available. I appreciate there is a lack of floor space to put many more. A drink in the bar is a must, very pretty inside and out. I look forward to a return visit.

We stayed here at the weekend for a family wedding and the service was absolutely fantastic! Everyone who tended to us at the wedding party and throughout the duration of our stay was absolutely lovely, very professional and extremely helpful. One gent in particular, Christian, he took care of everything through out the wedding and made sure everyone had a lovely day. The food was absolutely delicious, including the wedding meal, breakfast in the morning and food in one of the hotel bars/restaurants. There was so much choice at the breakfast buffet, from a selection of full English breakfast dishes, to cold meats cheeses and pastries, really nice coffee too! Our room and the rooms of the others guests in our party where beautiful, very comfortable and spacious, absolutely spotless, as was the hotel. Full use of the spa facility and pool was also included in our stay which was lovely, and there was also a pool side bar, which ment you could enjoy drinks while in the jacuzzi or relaxing by the pool. I also loved the fact that the hotel was dog friendly, although we didn't have a dog with us, it was nice to chat to other dog owners and gave the hotel a lovely atmosphere having the dogs around. The views from our room and from several areas through out the hotel where beautiful, and also from the outdoor seating areas. I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again.

Nice Hotel, shame about the room. Double snug is obviously their word for pokey. Only suitable for single person for one night only. Opened the door straight onto bed which was set back in an alcove formed by the en-suite. Nowhere to sit other than bed or wooden chair. The room was very small and dark with barely enough room to walk around the bed. The en-suite was tiny with a small half size sink with a small shelf above which made washing and brushing teeth quite a challenge as the shelf got in the way. The shower tray was so shallow that water spilled over the rim and into the rest of the en-suite floor, so that for the rest of the day we were paddling in water. Otherwise breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Easy walking distance to town.

We have stayed here a number of times and always enjoyed the visit. Lovely large room, very big bathroom with a separate shower as well as a bath. Every time we have visited they have been painting and changing things and upgrading. This hotel is ideal for a visit to Windermere as it is positioned very close to the water and a short stroll from town and all the restaurants. Staff always welcome you and reception always smile as you check in or out.

Ate at a few different places in the hotel. The pub was OK but a bit dear. The 'posh' restaurant was lovely. But mixed up my main. Gave something they thought I would want rather than what I ordered. other places in town itself are better value.

Barmaid wanted £36. I said, "£36 for two puddings and a pint and a half?" She immediately reconsidered. "It's £29.50.". She printed me a receipt and said, "You asked for extra custard. Life isn't free, sir." I had indeed asked for extra custard, for which I had only been charged a pound. But obviously, people who query bar bills in the Lakes are regarded as the lowest form of scroungers.

Tempted by window display. No prices displayed, shocked at prices. Asked if I wanted vegan sausage roll warmed. Outside was warm, middle stone cold. Stodgy, salty filling. Would have preferred a Greggs. Over priced and disappointing 😞
