I visited this place several years ago and found it to be fairly reasonable in terms of cost and food-quality. I visited again yesterday and my experience was not good. The prices are enormously high and the meal I ordered was of very poor quality. The kitchen staff were clearly not very interested in supplying a hot and well-presented meal, which was sloppily served and cold (no, it wasn't a salad). I would advise future customers to visit the ODG nearby, where the food is reasonably-priced and of a high standard. I shan't visit the Slanty Slee's again. Disappointing.

My friend and I came for a slice of cake but my car broke down right outside the pub on arrival. The maintenance man (I think his name was Al) approached me and did everything he could to help me as it was a Sunday and no garages were open to assist me. He had a look at my car and assured me it was okay to keep it parked where it was at the pub. I was supposed to be travelling back up to Scotland for work the next day but I was stuck, so he told me where I’d be able to stay for the night should I not get my car fixed. When my dad ended up coming all the way down to help me, Al said we could ask him for any tools etc we might need. A really nice, thoughtful man. When the girl working behind the bar heard my dad had travelled all that way to come down to help me (to then have to turn around and go straight back up to do his 12 hour night shift that night) she gave him a soft drink on the house. A really lovely bunch of people, and the slice of chocolate and Guinness cake was phenomenal!

This is one of the most wonderful spots in Lakeland. I've been coming here for the last couple of decades and have great memories with family of hiking the pikes followed by a well earned beer in Sticklebarn (predominantly when it was National Trust run). Unfortunately, I won't be returning to it in it's current guise after a disappointing experience. I can't review the food, as after being told at 7.15pm that the kitchen would be open until 8pm, I had a pint to review the menu and returned at 7.40pm only to be told the kitchen was closed. I was told "that's hospitality" by the same guy I spoke to before...no apology or further explanation. I headed to Old Dungeon Ghyll where I had food and a much warmer welcome. A real shame and I won't return with that approach to customer service

Tasty Sunday Roast with a View at Lanty Slee's Despite a long queue to order, our experience at Lanty Slee's for Sunday lunch was well worth the wait. Our tasty roast arrived within a speedy 20 minutes of ordering. It was clear the staff were working incredibly hard to keep customers happy, especially as they mentioned being short-staffed – a testament to their dedication as we were served at the till within just 5 minutes. Beyond the efficient and friendly service, the scenery surrounding Lanty Slee's is truly beautiful, making it a perfect location for a bite to eat while exploring the Lake District. We'll definitely be considering a return visit!

Every time I come here the queues at the bar are ridiculous. It’s almost as if the mgmt know they have a captive market. Far better bar next door

Excellent tapas served in a great location by friendly staff. We ate out at various local pubs and restaurants but this was the highlight of the week. Try the Korean chicken as it is fabulous.

Stickle Barn has become my favourite place to visit when we are in the Lakes. It has everything. The attention to detail inside makes the atmosphere magical. The food is SO GOOD (try the salt and pepper fries!!), the cocktails make me want to stay longer (the breakfast martini is a MUST!)... when it is rainy, there is a fire and a friendly welcome, when it is sunny, sitting outside and taking in the views is spectacular. The Hayloft upstairs has been restored, cared for and opened up for events and weddings - it is a phenomenal venue for the area. And the staff are amazing!

Popped out for lunch and decided to take the scenic route. Music was lovely- Buena Vista Social Club. Food was great - had the hot dog but a chilli hot dog option would be a request for a future visit. Chilli loaded fries great. Highly recommended.

Attended a wedding in Stickle Barn on Saturday and is was absolutely perfect. The pub and the the outside area made a lovely meeting place the night before with great food and live music and on the day the wedding was magical. The barn is an absolutely perfect venue with its own bar and toilet facilitities a great space for dancing and the decorations were beautifully rustic and created a very special atmosphere with big round tables and lights and candelabras. The food was beyond excellent (still thinking about the pork canapes), even when serving large numbers the lamb was absolutely perfect and the sharing platters for starters were a great idea. The owner and the staff could not do enough to ensure that everything was perfect. It also helped that everyone could stay at the New Dungeon Ghyll hotel next door and the cottage so there were no transport issues. And of course beautiful pictures with the lovely scenery. It is right next to the Stickle Tarn climb so those without hangovers can attempt it the next morning (not us!!) Cannot recommend highly enough.

Very average - I can’t recommend. We popped in for lunch after a walk and very limited choice. In the end we had vege chilli and chips and the chilli was lukewarm …. and the chips undercooked. Bare minimum for £11! The service was friendly.

Walked from home about 4 miles for lunch and drinks in the sunny beer garden. We had a burger and chicken burger, both were delicious. I have to say Nicola was very attentive, pulled a decent pint and made our 3 dogs very welcome.

Spent the wkend in the langdales and ended up in lantys slee's twice. The staff all really friendly and the food superb. Between 3 of us we had the ribs, the burger and the stroganoff. All very good, my stroganoff was superb. The Guinness was very good and the tall guy behind the bar with the beard had no issue bringing it over to the table after pouring. Nice touch. Yes the prices are possibly slightly higher than most places but look at where you are. Must say I thought the other tall guy behind the bar who ended being the guitarist/singer satday evening was incredible. Some talent. Really enjoyed our time, drinks, food and the music here defo recommend.

Google said it closes at 9pm, so I got there at 6 assuming the live music would therefore start around 7, it started at 9pm by which time I was ready to leave. Nachos were weird, basically a bowl of tortilla chips with some sauce that tasted like macaroni cheese and a couple of jalapeños. Staff were great, great beers, location and decor awesome.

This has an amazing setting and was somewhere we really enjoy stopping at when in the Langdale Valley. Today was so disappointing, I feel ripped off after paying over £28 for one soup and cheese scone, a pot of tea for one, a coffee and a cake. The soup doesn’t have a price on the board near the bar, buyer beware, I feel stupid not asking! So buy the cheapest thing on the menu, perch on a picnic bench outside and enjoy the views just go somewhere else to eat. Perhaps next door?

We found the evening food very good, the staff are very friendly, and the music (either live or recorded) good. No sports bar here but there is wifi. We visited on two days after days on the hills and noticed others that we'd seen. Very popular on a Friday & Saturday. We tried their rum & whisky and found it very drinkable. A couple of bottles went home with us. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. We'll be back, even if we're staying at the hotel next door.

Good beer, good food. Just what you need after a strenuous walk in the Lakes. But what really makes this place is everything possible is produced locally, even the ketchup!! Staff are very helpful. The only downside that it's a tourist trap, but hey thats the lakes.

Haven't visited this place for a few years and to my surprise it's now owned by the National Trust. NT has its place but this bar used to be a great classic walkers bar with down to earth pub food, regular live music and TV for sport. Now that charm has been lost and replaced with light oak doors and furniture. Shame.

We visited Sticklebarn on 6 August for an evening meal. We had a chickpea curry with rice and a tomato and chilli barley risotto. Both were truly awful. They lacked any taste, and were basically just a bowl of stodge. Both were served with a bread roll. The total cost of the meal was £21 and would have only cost pennies to make. This restaurant shamelessly exploits walkers by presenting them with grossly overpriced tasteless and uninteresting food, with the option of driving many miles to find another eating place.

We've been here a few times now yet again left at the bar waiting on bar staff for service, Ghostly lacking in staff, Ok it was a quite day NOT many in. If YOU don't want customers here just lock the doors.... We can always go across the road or to the old Dungeon Ghyll, Where you are given a warm welcome. We are sorry for inconveniencing the staff at Sticklebarn .when they did appear by wanting a drink and something to eat....Since the National trust has got hold of Stickelbarn, things have got worse here.

Visited here twice as we were staying in the campsite down the road. The staff were more than accommodating, they lit the fire pit for us and brought jugs of water for us along with last orders. The menu is not overly extensive but there was something for everyone, simple British pub food but very tasty. A great place to end a countryside walk!

I'd never been to Sticklebarn before, either before or after the National Trust takeover. With a bar stuffed full of Cumbrian real ales (I'm surprised to read comments below about there not being any because I counted at least five on tap) it was a shame I was driving. We found the staff friendly and welcoming, and the food up to the normal National Trust standard, although as with many National Trust places, the portions could have been bigger - although the macaroni cheese was huge. However it was good quality and well cooked, with excellent home-cooked chips. There was a bit too much National Trust branding though - it felt a bit corporate, even if it is being run by a charity. Pubs should be more individual for my mind.

I have been visiting Great Langdale for over 20 years, always enjoying a pint in the sticklebarn after a long days walking.... unfortunately, on the first May bank holiday this year, I was highly surprised to find that the once great lakeland hideaway had been spoilt by what I can only describe as, rude, very unhelpful, nor enviting bar staff, including the manager!!!!A friend of mine ordered one of the foreign beers (this is all they have left now) which was as flat as a witches...... When I requested it be changed I was met with a torrent of insults which I did not expect... needless to say I felt insulted!!! The manager appeared, poured a little bit out of the pint and then attempted to "throth" the top of the pint, which I might add did absolutely nothing to the pint of beer... my mate drank the pint as he did not want to cause a seen (he is six foot eight by the way, and an ex serviceman)We went to find a seat only to find it was cramped due to the seating arrangement, we decided to sit outside. WHAT HAS HAPPENED? All of the lovely seating has dissappeared from beneath the veranda and has been replaced with deck chairs, YES I did say deck chairs, in Great Langdale - C'mon now, seriously!!!Anyway, it was food time, could not be that bad could it! I ordered the burger, you could fit it in your eye, with a small stack of 'Jenga fries' (I thought that was a childs game) very poor quality.. the rest of the food arrived after mine and was cold (50 minutes in all) just for three meals....The National Trust have somehow managed to ruin one of Britains little gems. It is not enough that the food is bad, but the ale as well!!This I could forgive if it wasn't for the horrible attitude from the staff that they now have employed there... Bring back the Czech's and Poles, at least they worked hard and were very pleasant (David, Magner, George to name a few)I am English through and through, I enjoy walking, and especially having that pint I feel I have earned after a day on the fells, unfortunately I will not be enjoying it in the Sticklebarn again!!!!The ODG and the NDG will have all my custom from that day on!!Regards, I hope this helps the next visiting customer to Great Langdale, save your money and DO NOT be tempted to enter!!!!

We were a large party of 12 but unfortunately no-one can book a table on a Sunday! This is rare these days as people like to plan their mel times. We knew this is advance as we had been before. We waited for a short while and then the table was ready. This wasn't 1 table but we were spread across 3 separate tables which couldn't be put together and some had to sit elsewhere. This happened last time and this time we thought they would only allocate eating when it was ready for the whole party. Most went for the carvery. The vegetables were very good and the turkey really moist but the beef was so tough that you really needed a steak knife to cut through it. Overall a disappointing experience based upon the service, food quality and price/value for money.

having read some of the recent reviews I was a little nervous about eating here. We had always food it good in the past but things change. The first thing that I noticed was how friendly helpful and accommodating the staff were. There was a choice of 4 real ales two from bowness and 2 from black sheep, Well kept and very reasonably priced and less than a few others in Ambleside. The food was superb, we had the pie of the week with chips, The pie was a slice from a tray so it was not all pastry with little filling, The pastry was very tasty and there was plenty of minted lamb filling. The chips were well cooked and there was plenty of vegetables. We were not the only ones who enjoyed their meal. A couple sat near to us had the fish and chips which they said was delicious All in all it was a good meal at a reasonable price with lovely staff
