Very disappointed with the staff. Unsmiling and disengaged. For example, there were no serviettes or forks and when we asked the staff, they placed a pack of unopened serviettes on the shelf next to the bar, and some forks into the tray, without making eye contact or saying anything at all. In response to my Google review the owner dismissed my feedback by telling me that the staff were not rude without asking about why we were disappointed.

This used to be a place with home cooked stews and a roaring fire. Now it has no roaring fire and bowls of Natchos for £12…..what has happened to this beautiful old Inn?You are met with a sign on the door saying “please go around the side were trying to keep the heat in”…there is no heat to keep in!!!…I ordered four lunch time meals for two teenagers and myself and my wife….£107…with one drink each.If you like paying £16 for a hot dog this is the place for you.Its now all about bums on seats and they try and justify their prices by saying”we source all our food locally to help support the local community “ Load of tosh. Its all about making as much money as possible. So if you like McDonalds French fries for £5, no fire no ambience no heat….come here…

I really wanted to be more impressed... but I just wasn't. Perfect location for walkers and a potentially cool vibe but don't be fooled by instagram! It was cold and lacked atmosphere- not ideal as 90% of customers were walkers. I was disappointed to know the Langdale gin was currently made in Essex, and food was average. We had two plates of loaded fries and while the toppings had a nice flavour and were warm, the chips underneath were stone cold. We'd had quite a wait which I didn't mind, but by this point we were too hungry to send it back. I might have mentioned it to a friendly waited if there was one to be seen, however no one checked in and it really felt the staff were happy to do the bare minimum. One guy lit a few candles and sat and had a pint on this side of the bar with some mates. I'd love to return in the hope it's better as it really feels it has so much potential.

Not once, but twice, were different individuals in our group, met with snotty responses, when attempting to interact with the 'barman' in this establishment. The first was when an individual walked in to enquire about a table for eating... Admittedly, they had, in haste, amidst a torrential downpour, mistakenly dashed into the wrong establishment, however, to be cut off mid-sentence with an abrupt "No!" is unacceptable. Despite the rudeness and after eating in another around the corner, we decided to give it another chance for a few post meal drinks. Barely, had (a different) two of us walked in, when the same 'barman' shouts, "we're done". After checking my watch and noticing the time was barely 9.15pm, I confirmed with the individual that the meaning of this statement was that they were no longer serving. We left, leaving him and several customers listening to loud heavy metal. We were well-mannered, adequately attired and gave no reason for him to refuse service, other than, perhaps, he fancied an early finish or just generally struggles to respond appropriately to social cues. If you don't like the general public, don't work in a pub.

First time we have been since its changed hands and become Lanty Slee's, and was not disappointed. Warm friendly welcome, with a (for the Lake District) reasonably priced breakfast. The produce used in the breakfasts were absolutely delicious. Cannot wait to go back to sample food off the lunch menu !!

Visited Lantys and we always do when we are up in Chapel Stlie but sadly the 1st time I've not given it 5 out of 5. Reason for this is whilst my Double Cheeseburger was delicious sadly my wife's Lamb Rogan Josh was a little disappointing as half the lamb was very fatty. The taste was lovely and the non fatty lamb was fab, we still love both Lantys and will definitely be back next time we are up here.

Offers something very different to the New and Old Dungeon Ghyll Inns. Spacious and nicely appointed pub, food was very nice and plenty of drink choices. Highlight though was the live music, what a singer the manager is!

I really liked this place. Good atmosphere and, as other reviewers have said, offers something a bit different compared to the other nearby 'more traditional ' pub options. Good choice of beer and friendly and efficient staff. Food portions could have been a bit better. Ordered the beef goulash which was listed as a 'special ' and the portion size was small with no rice or chips. To be fair to the manager, when we raised this he very quickly rectified the situation by bringing over a bowl of extra fries. The best thing about the place though was the music. The manager performed a great set of accoustic covers and you could tell everyone in there was really enjoying it. So overall, I'd definitely recommend a visit to this place- it was a highlight of our evening in Great Langdale.

Great staff, beer was great but couldn't stay to eat as it was so cold, please can you keep the front door closed as that would have helped and we would have stayed to eat.

We were a large party of 12 but unfortunately no-one can book a table on a Sunday! This is rare these days as people like to plan their mel times. We knew this is advance as we had been before. We waited for a short while and then the table was ready. This wasn't 1 table but we were spread across 3 separate tables which couldn't be put together and some had to sit elsewhere. This happened last time and this time we thought they would only allocate eating when it was ready for the whole party. Most went for the carvery. The vegetables were very good and the turkey really moist but the beef was so tough that you really needed a steak knife to cut through it. Overall a disappointing experience based upon the service, food quality and price/value for money.

We were knackered after a load of personal stress and a walk from Ambleside to Grasmere (recommended) on a really hot day. SO ... we decided to have a pint (or several) on our return and we chose this place. Lovely staff, nice atmosphere and the 'early bird menu' for people like us who were past it by 8 o'clock (hic !) it was excellent. Seriously, this is a fantastic place to go. Also try the Royal Oak and the also consider staying at Rothay House for your accommodation. Hope this helps. Rob & Ruth.

Me and the missus called into the Ambleside Inn at around 4pm for a couple of drinks with a view to possibly eating later on. It was a busy bank holiday Sunday (Spring bank holiday) The bar was busy but didn’t take too long to get served. The drinks were pricey never the less we stayed for a few rounds and then decided to have a Sunday roast. We paid £21 each for roast beef, again pricier than most. It arrived pretty quickly and when it was placed down they looked dry so I asked if we could have some more gravy. The waitress said that would be another £2 each WTF!!! I explained this was disgusting but she walked away. Another member was passing and I asked to see the manager, he wasn’t available but this member of staff said extra gravy was extra but could see there was hardly any so on this occasion she would get some for us. The food was ok but nothing to shout about. Pale roast potatoes, tough beef and tasteless yorkshire puddings. Not worth the money. Very disappointed and hope they review this charge for extra gravy. Won’t rush to visit again.

Stayed at the nearby Haven site and as its been nearly 20 years since last coming in here, booked a table. Joshua, provided both bar and waiter service, was quick, efficient and very friendly. Couple of nice pints with the Cumbria ale and Dizzy Blonde. Meals were both superb and plentiful, and not overpriced. Fish & chips for me, rag pudding & chips for OH. Wanted the liver, bacon & mash but it had sold out, unfortunately. Clean and tidy pub that offers 7 rooms for accomodation. Nice beer garden to the rear to relax in. Only about 10/15 walk back to the caravan. Central village location and great base for exploring the South Lakes. Advised for a visit 👍🏻👍🏻
