The best restaurants in Allerdale North West

If you want a special meal with great food and fantastic service, don't go to The Trout. We were a family of 5, and we were all so disappointed with our experience. We waited almost an hour for our food, and when it arrived it certainly wasn't 4*. After we got our meals we were ignored by the staff. Nobody checked whether the food was nice, the plates weren't cleared after we finished eating, we weren't asked if we wanted more drinks, or desserts or coffee. And when we paid, the restaurant manager charged us for another table's food! This hotel has really gone downhill. Save your money and go elsewhere. We don't recommend it and won't return.

It's one thing selling sub standard coffee, it's another thing having to consume it in sub zero temperatures, no heating whatsoever, everyone wearing coats and even hats. We the customers get to leave and get a warm outside, the poor staff all wearing fleeces and scalfes have to endure the misery for the rest of the day, come on Starbucks you're a multi billion dollar company put the heating on you tight gits. I won't be visiting again.

The menu has changed and it now slightly confusing. My favourite 'spicy italian' seems to be missing from the menu now but when I enquired, they said they could still make it - odd!. Prices have somewhat increased. Sandwich was ok.

Stale teacakes one day, stale hot cross bun the next( after we had mentioned the teacakes of the previous day to blank looks). Seems a common problem.now, no one's job to check stuff is fresh. I expect it will be a Costa franchise any day now.

Por favor, no pierdas tu dinero! ! Nos alojamos en el cercano "North Lakes Lodges" (que son increíbles por cierto) y decidimos llevarnos para la cena final. Fuimos a recoger y llegamos a un restaurante muy oscuro y poco atractivo (uso la palabra a la ligera) y solo se les dijo en efectivo. . . Conseguí la comida en casa, era incorrecta y, sin duda, el curry más suave que he tenido la desgracia de probar. Pedí un Jalfrezi y literalmente no tenía especias. . He tenido fideos olla más sabrosos! ! El pollo Balti que pedimos estaban tan mal! Ahorre su dinero y diríjase al restaurante del hotel si se aloja en los nuevos lodges de North Lakes ¡Lamentable! ! !

I decided to order on the app for the first time ever. Never ever again, in fact I deleted the app whilst in the restaurant! What a shambles. I ordered my food on the app and paid, but the order never transferred to the restaurant. The staff couldn't have been more helpful to be fair and in the end we just gave up with it and I ordered at the till. None of us could understand how my order had been placed (we could see it on my phone, it was definitely placed and at the right restaurant). The food was fine but deary me the app was rubbish. Luckily because the order never transferred to the restaurant I was never charged or that would have made me even more annoyed. Gave 3 stars as it wasn't the restaurants fault and the staff sorted it out.

I have just been verbally abused by the owners and watched them while they verbally abuse their own son and the poor lady behind the counter who were both close to tears!! They have a sign up in the shop they they won’t tolerate abusive customers and will call the police yet it is acceptable for them to take 2hrs to deliver stone cold food which is then taken back and they then refuse to refund and then be abusive to the customer, their own son and the counter assistant to the point I have had to call the police and will be reporting them to trading standards! Where is this ever acceptable. Please a) avoid and b) share

Thats the third time we have used this Burger King, the previous 2 trips we waited for so long for our food, and only 1 car in front of us, today we decided to time it, 2 cars then us, 28 MINUTES!!! and when we got to the hatch to collect our food we still had to wait another 10 minutes, Burger King is supposed to be fast food, if they were any slower it would be past its use by date!! RIDICULOUS!!

Popped in here as this was the first pub I came to when my weakened bladder condition kicked in on a day trip to Cockermouth and I needed a wee. I politely asked for directions to the toilets in a tone that anyone could see meant I needed to find them urgently, only to be told sharply “It’s customers only”, which I’m not sure is even legal. Did she find my discomfort amusing ? maybe, not exactly the warm welcome to Cockermouth that the tourist guides would have you believe. Would she have found it more amusing for me to let go in the public bar on the way back out and her have to mop up ? or would she prefer me being humiliated outside on the high street. If I had agreed to become a ‘customer’ would I have to wait for her to pour a half-pint of guiness or could I use the toilet as soon as my contactless payment had gone through ? Having said that, the place was on the high street and virtually deserted at lunchtime on a Sunny half-term Saturday so that probably tells you more than any review I could post. The fact the place was as quiet as the grave made the dehumanising behaviour stand out even more. Beat a hasty retreat (no time to waste arguing) and found a much nicer pub further down the street, a fantastic patisserie on the other side of the high street and a lovely cafe at the end of the History Wall so I can attest there are some very nice people in Cockermouth, just not working in the Black Bull Pub.

I’ve eaten Domino’s in several countries and two continents and always found them reliable until yesterdays pizza. My large pizza was slightly smaller than normal, but worst of all, there was barely any topping, thinly spread over a smaller surface area than usual.

Absolutely vile food, should have read the reviews £28 went down the drain as everything landed in the bin Food arrived nearly 2 hours since placing the order, obviously cold Chips were cooked probably a month ago, REVOLTING I will be asking for the hygiene rating to be reviewed, this place should be shut

Wow what a difference in a week called this evening to drive through to give bucket of wings another go well impressive no waiting food red hot extremely tasty gob smacked what a difference well done KFC 5stars from me jr

Me and family (4 adults and 1 child) pre booked a New Year's Eve celebration meal at the kings head as we were staying in the lakes over Christmas and thought it would be a lovely place to see the new year in. I have eaten here before a while back and the food and service was fine. On arrival all looked really nice, nice table layout crackers party poppers etc Music in the background (which ended being on repeat about 4 times whilst we ate) For Starters I had the ham hock which was okay, their was nothing on the menu for children so my daughter had a bread basket (strange I know but literally a whole loaf of ciabatta in a basket) the rest of my family had trio of seafood which apparently consisted of salmon, mackerel and halibut but it was actually 'duo of seafood' just salmon and halibut. Then came the main course, buffet style which was a strange combination 'a carb lovers paradise' if you ask me...potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, more potatoes then a couple of meats and 2 hot dishes which were barely hot. As the service was so slow my dad had to go to bar to get our drinks at the other end of the pub! We Waited ages for the waiter to ask us for our pudding choice, when it did arrive it was cold - I ordered the warm pear and ginger crepes with lime sorbet and chocolate sauce (see my pic it was a joke) no chocolate sauce, no sorbet. It seems the chef doesn't know what's on the menu and is making it up as he goes along. The brochure advertised a disco, I can't believe it but the dj actually pulled up a chair at the table we were eating at to ask us what we want playing (seriously, your the dj). We ended the evening by leaving early and having a better new year at our holiday cottage however £175 worse off!! certainly will not be returning their are far better places to go in the lakes.

Dirty cups and cutlery. Had to search hard to find something suitable to eat and drink with. Perhaps staff should check when out before people are due to use them. Waiting time was approximately 15 minutes Tables had clearly not been cleared all morning and dirty dishes and cups were stacked high on every available table. Minimum staffing was evident. Food was warm and edible but eating in the cafe that was clearly unclean was very off putting. Will not be back

We went to the front bar for a lunchtime snack. We ordered a club sandwich for me and a fish finger sandwich and fish fingers, chips and peas for the kids. We had to hurry to order as they said they stopped serving at 3pm, although it states 5pm on the menu. One kids meal didn't turn up and the other was missing peas, which turned up after he'd finished. My club sandwich was PROBABLY THE WORST CLUB SANDWICH EVER! Slathered with mayonnaise to the point it was bursting out like pus. Don't waste your money and go elsewhere.
