A brilliant pub in so many ways :- Friendly, attentive staff (2 young females) who worked hard to ensure that customers were served quickly and efficiently (and they made time to give my black labrador some treats) Delicious food - we enjoyed steak pie, surf, & turf and Cumberland sausage all of which were reasonably priced. (Thank you chef) Excellent hand-pulled ales. The Hawkshesd red was superb. The selection of wines was also very good. Friendly locals - the atmosphere in the pub was warm and friendly and everyone was enjoying themselves. The Black Bull is out of the top drawer of great, traditional pubs and is conveniently loacated near to Hadrian's Wall. We will certainly be returning in the future. Well done to all concerned.

The food at the White Swan is lovely. I’ve been numerous times as this is my local pub. However, the service doesn’t always match the standard of the food. There is a middle aged lady who works there, with brown hair who is fab, very friendly and attentive. Whenever this lady is on shift, you can’t fault it. However, this is the third time that I’ve been, where this lady hasn’t been on shift and the customer service in the pub is severely lacking. Tonight, the only interaction from staff we had, was to order our food and when it was served. The very basics were there, but I recommend staff avoid discussing personal conversations and online shopping, and focus on the customers who are dinning. If the younger staff have training in customer service, the pub will be spot on.

Had an amazing meal at Di Sopra earlier this week. After having our booking cancelled by another restaurant, Di Sopra were amazing and able to fit us in without a reservation. The food was to die for and very reasonably priced. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Alnwick.

Went for the 2 course lunch menu. The food was very tasty but the portions were measured to say the least. Then we made the mistake of opting to finish with Turkish coffee without checking the menu for its price. At £9.20 for two thimble-fulls it was a sobering experience.
