Great value Italian restaurant- with high quality but very reasonably priced food . Good range of vegan options available. Recommended

The welcome in to the restaurant was warm and our table was in a cosy corner but not cramped. We ordered drinks and the didn't rush us in to ordering. I had the seafood starter, crevettes, mussels, clams etc.. and there was plenty of them. My wife, who is picky with salads ordered prawn salad and commented on how fresh it was. Both dishes were very nice and very tasty. I had the swordfish in a hot sauce and my wife had salmon. Once again we both commented on how nice the food was. The bill was reasonable and certainly justified the good evening that we had. The service was pleasant and we were made to feel as if our custom was appreciated.

We have eaten here twice & both times have been really cold we both both ate with our coats on. Pizzas were delicious & staff friendly. But please put some heating on as this stops us from wanting to return again which would be a shame

The child’s pasta supposed to come with Napoli sauce, unfortunately it looked like a bowl of pasta with tinned chopped tomatoes on it. I had prawns with saffron rice. They were nice enough but didn’t have that wonderful fresh taste. The saffron rice was very greasy, not how saffron rice should be served. The grease in it was very overpowering and not really enjoyable. My husbands pizza looked good and he said it was enjoyable. The staff were very nice, but unfortunately I won’t be returning in a hurry.

What a wonderful find - a real Italian restaurant with beautifully cooked and presented food. This was one of the best Italian restaurants we have visited, totally unpretentious and under-stated. Staff were really friendly and efficient, without being intrusive. The fixed price menu on offer for Valentine's Day was superb, with good choices and great value.

Our favourite Italian restaurant

The restaurant looked lovely so we chose it cause we were staying for a few nights in the area and plus it was valentines night, so we were out for a treat. We were totally disappointed with the food. We ordered what I thought was going to be an assortment of different breads with flavoursome oils for dipping but what we got was four heavy sliced French stick style bread with a small amount of olive oil with Balsamic vinegar that was tasteless. I then ordered bruschetta but what I got was sliced bread with tasteless cheap tomatoes and cheese melted on top. There was no garlic olive oil dressing or anything to enhance the flavour. No basalmic glaze on the tomatoes I ended up having to put salt on the tomatoes to give it flavour. If an Italian chef made this, he needs to go back to cookery classes. The bread certainly was not bruschetta. My husband had his starter off a specials menu which was salmon parcel with stuffed prawns which he did enjoy but it was put on a large plate with enough bland salad around it as if they were trying to give the impression you were getting your monies worth. For main course I had Cabonara which was very nice but when they asked if I wanted some parmasan cheese I was expecting the real thing not the cheap looking Parmesan cheese that you can buy from Aldi. My husband ordered a calzone pizza which he was not impressed with it looked more like a bun with tomatoes and cheese stuck in the middle and a pastry top put on. The outer crust was about 3” thick and he said was tasteless and stoggy and again the filling was made with cheap tasteless tomatoes with no garlic or any other flavour product. I mean basically a calzone is a pizza folded over with a preferred filling inside. This was nothing like a calzone, not in looks or flavour. The one good thing was that the staff were very nice and they worked hard so we did leave a tip. The restaurant was cold as the door down stairs was wide open and the cold air travels up. A door at the top to keep in the warmth would not go a miss! It looked like a lovely Italian restaurant but the chef needs to be given decent ingredients to improve the food especially the flavours. What we ordered was not rocket science to make but for some reason if he was a qualified chef he could do with a refresh! I’m sorry but I don’t mean to be mean but the food is not cheap and I feel I could have stayed at home and made it myself! On the plus side the pizza and deserts coming out did look good! Although after what we ate we they were not enough to attempt us to go back!

We are here last night on the early bird special - 2 courses for £12. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the portions were huge. Good service too. No complaints at all! Well done!

Had the Xmas menu and loved the best and most authentic tortellini in brodo I've had since my Mum made it. Followed this with a delightful ndjua casserole. Great food, made with care. A quick warning, this restaurant is upstairs without any real street frontage so there's only a doorway onto the street. I walked past a couple of times with a sat nav until I realised where it was.

Had an excellent lunch from the lunch menu. Well cooked and presented on hot plates. Relaxed atmosphere and will call again.

Lovely experience at this restaurant. A good gluten free menu alongside the main menu. Staff were delightful and the food was plentiful and tasty. Perfectly located for the playhouse too.

🥬Vegan/Veggie Options🥬 We visited here whilst exploring Northumberland. Lovely and quaint and great service the taste of the food was great. Portion size was definitely value for money they were huge!!!! We got a starter and main. Garlic mushrooms and Bruschetta. My mushrooms were beautiful however immense in portion size. Mains were pizza and a pesto style pasta. Very tasty but again huge. The pasta felt like a never ending bowl. Less is more I think here. Would recommend but make sure you fast before hand you need an empty stomach :)

I honestly can't speak highly enough of Di Sopra and their wonderful staff ! We've been to Italy loads of times but when we're home we feel so lucky we've got this brilliant restaurant right in our doorstep ! Every meal we've ever had here has been just amazing & believe me we've been a lot ! Not just that though the staff are just the best around & I may be a biased as they are friends but they are so lovely to everyone who comes in for a meal The atmosphere is so relaxed the prices are brilliant but it's the food that trumps everything ! Like I say we live here & by a country mile it's our favourite place to eat That in a town which has some great places to eat is one heck of a recommendation!

I love coming here it’s one of my all time favourite restaurants I’ve just had the most sublime Seafood risotto 🤤🤤 it was perfect I had a starter kinda wish I hadn’t because the main was so good!! I love the relaxed atmosphere here there’s always a happy staff which adds to the overall experience The food here is sublime whether it’s a risotto or a pizza I like coming here for both the basic menu and the more “expensive” menu Valentina and her family are exceptional

Saturday afternoon fir a nice pre Christmas catchup with family. Lovely house white wine. V reasonably priced and delicious. We all had a starter and main. Mozzarella sticks/garlic mushrooms. Nice and fresh and tasty. Pizzas and pasta for mains and a christmas cocktail/chocolate brownie with ice cream to finish. Under £100 for 4 people lovely staff and a great family atmosphere. Can't fault anything. Highly recommend.

In the middle of town, this little gem was great for lunch. We ordered linguini with bolognese sauce and lasagne. Neither meal could be faulted. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

When we searched for restaurants in Alnwick, this was the best rated Italian. I’m sorry to say it reflects badly on the others as the atmosphere was lacklustre, with nothing Italian about it. Unless you count the piped music! The food mediocre and my pizza in particular lacking in taste and flavour. On the positive side, the staff were friendly and attentive

Amazing pizza, really friendly staff who managed to fit us in despite it being late in the evening without a booking. The prices are amazing. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a good pizza - the other food on the menu looked amazing - would love to come back in the future!

The food was absolutely incredible. Not a huge variety of vegan mains, but they tasted so so good I would absolutely recommend. Tons of vegan starters too, you could probably make a meal out of just them!

We booked a table at the very last minute during a short visit to alnwyk. Staff were very accommodating and we dined early evening on a Friday. The restaurant was very busy however the staff were attentive and very friendly. Mussels starter on the specials board was superb and a huge portion. Main sea bass from the specials board was really good and the accompanying roasted vegetables were excellent. Speedy service we will definitely return

What a fabulous restaurant this is. We had English, Indian and Italian food during our 3 night stay. This was by far the best. Service was excellent and the food was very well priced. Highly recommend a visit.

Came here on Wednesday last week and the food was excellent with going on a lunchtime which meant that we could have 3 courses for 14.95 or 2 courses for 11.95.I started off with the Pommodoro bruschetta which was really good.And then for my main I had Proscuitto e funghi which was really good. Then for desert I had the berry cake which was really good but forgot to take a picture. :(

As we couldn’t get a table the first time we tried we figured it must be a good restaurant and booked to return later in the week. We received a nice welcome from the staff and were shown to a booth completely separate from the rest of the restaurant. The mushroom risotto and pancakes went down well. The garlic bread was ok. My go to Italian dish is lasagne and I always judge a place on that. You couldn’t fault it on the amount of meaty bolognaise sauce, but surely a lasagne should be baked in the oven and come to the table still bubbling with crispy bits round the outside. Sadly this one was just spooned in a normal bowl, which was a shame.

Having just come back from Italy, this meal was actually the nicest meal I've had in a very long time... including italy!! I had the chicken rosmarino, and it was stunning!!! Everyone in the family loved their meals, too. The staff were great - very friendly and helpful, and it was nice that they squeezed us in because we hadn't booked. I would recommend booking as it isn't a huge place. A lovely, intimate restaurant with beautiful food. We can highly recommend it!!

Food was alright, nothing special. Toppings were literally sliding off the pizza but the overall taste was good. Pasta was decent, yet again nothing special. I was a bit disappointed in the espresso martini, it's my favourite cocktail and I was looking forward to it but it certainly didn't deliver. The person making these was doing it for the first time. Prices are not too high which is good to see.

Absolutely amazing value and delicious food, service was very friendly and the whole place was very clean. Only thing is the colour scheme of the paint is very baby colour-ish, it could do with a bit more of a classy paint job as the rest of the existing decor would match that well. If I am ever in the area again I would definitely come back.

We had attempted to go to another Italian restaurant in the town but were put off by the rude owner. So, Di Sopra, proved to be the better choice and we would recommend it to future visitors. We only just managed to get a table. The restaurant is very popular and it would seem that booking in advance is a necessary. Staff very good. Surroundings are great and food is excellent. Obviously all cooked fresh. We can recommend the Garlic Bread with cheese, Fillet Steak with potatoes and vegetables and Penne Arrabiatta. All reasonably priced.
