Beautiful food in a beautiful venue, but service was disappointing given the price point - and the fact that the restaurant boasts a Michelin star. We were there on Saturday night for my husband's birthday and shared the sea bass ceviche, Welsh rarebit and cured and smoked salmon- before getting a Cote de Boeuf. As I said, the food was excellent; beautifully presented and delicious. However, it felt that the servers were disinterested and inattentive because we were ordering from the a la carte menu, as opposed to the tasting menu. There were several dishes we ordered which featured on the tasting menu - which we heard described in painstaking detail to the table behind us as they we were served. Unfortunately, we received no such description of the details of the food - the various elements and ingredients, which you would typically receive from a restaurant of this level. It's a very minor detail - but made us feel very much like the "poor relation" - in spite of paying more than £250 for the privilege of eating there. (This was also reflected in the very casual - and somewhat tardy - approach to our drinks, too.)
It's a shame the service let down what would otherwise have been an excellent meal.

Decent little pub and great for sitting in the sun with a drink. The venue itself is relatively small and the majority of the seating is outside...there was spill over onto the lawn on one side. Punters following the sun. I would defo go back.

Apologies no pictures as I was on a date.
Now I love this place I am an avid tea drinker (as is my date, our first date was there) and have had lovely cakes and lunches there before.
The afternoon tea was so disappointing. It’s priced £22 per head.
We got a pot of our tea each. Some little sliced bread sandwiches. A fruit scone each and a cheese scone each. Then a few little traybakes. Blondiee, brownies etc (all tiny). I’m not much of a blondie and brownie fan anyway and they were overpoweringly sweet and I barely touched any. I was very surprised not to have any of their nice cakes.
We asked for another pot of tea each. I had expected it would be free refills of tea as other places I have had afternoon tea they are. Apparently not as my total bill was £52.50. Also no one ever came to ask if we needed more tea. We had to flag a member of staff down when we saw one.
My last afternoon tea in Newcastle was cake stories in Hoults yard which was far better. I felt this was really poor value for money. It was like all the cheap rubbish was used for afternoon tea.
Very disappointing when I have enjoyed all my other visits here.
Mog on the tyne everytime I go and see the beautiful cats and the lovely staff I will miss the cats trying to get my hot chocolate and dawn hiss at the staff of trying to get my hot chocolate i will miss give cat treats to the cats and just see the beautiful cats I miss them all sooo much I'm sad that mog on the tyne in closing I have the best memories with them and I will always remember all the cats and staff
I went to dog and scone alone during my solo trip in newcastle, ive had te best time of my life! The dogs are well cared for and the atmosphere is great!
Terrible servicio.

Previous reviews read, we walked to Café Mercy on a Sunday lunch time for some cocktails. A friendly greeting by the bar person and two free glasses of water were brought to the table. We were informed that it had been a busy weekend so the small plates (food option) were limited. The bar person created four incredible cocktails. One not on the menu. The ambience was lovely, vinyl records playing in the background, the bar person was great and we had amazing cocktails. Would highly recommend a visit.
