I’ve lived in Newcastle 4 years now and this is one of my favourite cafes in town! So close to the university and very well priced! It’s the perfect place for a cosy lunch or coffee catchup. The food is so comforting and lovely. One of my friends doesn’t drink much coffee so it’s so fun to try out all their tea options- which are endless! During busy periods I would expect to queue for a bit, as you usually can’t book. The staff are mainly students and the food takes around 20 mins to come out. Would definitely recommend!

We were there early morning, very quiet. Coffee was very nice but service was terrible considering how empty the place was. Waitress was pleasant but the breakfast took 40 mins to appear. My Shashuka with chorizo was ok but my partners French toast with banana was extremely dry, could have done with some syrup on the side

Don’t bother, now the students have returned they are very understaffed and completely disorganised, waited to be served once we had been given a table we waited for 20 mins. We gave up after that and headed to the Northern Stage which was great. If you have a 2 hour lunch break then go for it.

I have been here a few times and every time the staff ignore you for as long as possible at the door before they seat you (if you're on your own then good luck getting sat at a table) , the service is very slow, the staff and the manager are not attentive and borderline rude but I went back anyway because the food was descent perviously. I recently went again and we ordered 2 items from the breakfast menu, it took 45 mins for food to arrive (even the tea took 20 mins) - meanwhile the table next to us who were friends with the staff, arrived 30 mins after us and their hot food arrived within 10 minutes. Full English breakfast was poor quality and worth no more than £3, came with thin white barely toasted bread and the whole thing was cold. The staff never check on you or make any eye contact to even be in a position to check how the food is. So all in all I won't be going back. It's a shame because Quilliam Brothers was a very decent place whereas the current manager in this place clearly does not give a fig about any of the customers or the quality of their service.

Instructed to wait for a table. Ignored by counter staff. Ignored by a waitress that was cleaning a table. Eventually caught her eye, no welcome. A cursory nod indicated that I should sit at the table she’d just cleaned. She wandered off and I had to call her over to take my order. Very poor service. Tea was adequate

Lovely early lunch. Staff were attentive food was tasty. Only slight downside was that when I booked I wasn't sure if we would be 3/4 and I was advised to book for 4. When we arrived we were 3 so we were moved to a table for 3 outside the toilets

I thought that “The Teahouse” would be a pleasant space to relax my painful knee over a coffee and scone. On arrival, it was clear that I was supposed to sit on the high stools as I was on my own. As this would not be possible with my mobility problems, I was directed to a table for two. A waitress swiftly came to remove my coffee cup and plate once I had finished although I still had a glass of water. When I explained politely that I would feel obliged to leave if she did this, she left me alone with bad grace. This happened not just once but twice with a different waitress. On reading two other reviews, I see that it is Teahouse policy to get people out as soon as possible. Therefore, given that for me going to tea shops is often about sitting down, relaxing, watching the world go by or having a chat, I did not find the experience pleasant. This is not the 1950s when tea was cheap. You drank it and left. Most of the UK has moved on to continental standard where beverages are more expensive and coffee cups are never ever removed until customers have left. The Teahouse needs to be honest at the entrance and display a notice like a "short stay" carpark before anyone takes its strictly "time-limited" seats. Better still, it would be lovely if it followed to the continental model and treated paying customers with courtesy in reward for their patronage. Suggestion: Please amend sign: "Please wait to be seated at one of our strictly time-limited tables"

I used to come here when it was Quilliams and wasn't sure what to expect with the change of ownership. I wasn't disappointed. Amazing range of speciality teas and coffee, fantastic scones and cakes snd now the addition of bagels 😁. The staff were super friendly and very efficient. Would certainly recommend it.

Went here for breakfast and coffee. Food and coffee was really nice and good sized portions. Staff were friendly and service was very efficient! Also picked up some cakes to take home which were super tasty and huge slices! A little cramped in with tables, I have a young baby who I was carrying and it was a struggle getting through the main seating area. We were sat up in a separate area which felt a bit like a corridor to the kitchen.

Came solo for brunch on a Sunday. Lovely spacious cafe, busy on a Sunday morning. Great selection of bagels, I had the maple bacon with cream cheese. Very good quality. I was advised that I could just stay for an hour which was fine as I was alone (and was told when the hour was up) but not much use if you’re with friends/having a catch up. Service was a bit abrupt. Potential to be an excellent rating but I see the person who has reviewed had a similar experience so think it’s something they need to reconsider.

I was excited to see QB has rebranded and reopened but unfortunately my experience today was regretful. My sister and I ordered a breakfast option and two teas. As we sat, the tea house slowly filled up which is to be expected. What I didn’t expect was to be kicked out roughly an hour later by the manager when a group of 3 came in looking for a table. Bear in mind, we were not the first people to arrive, I still intended to order more tea and we were a party of two at a small table near the entrance. If the manager was so intent on creating space, it would’ve made more sense to request a group of 4 (there were 2 which had been there longer than us) to leave— although of course, I don’t condone kicking anyone out. People at the tea house are accustomed to waiting and it’s perfectly acceptable to tell people a wait time too. I told the manager I intended to order again and she insisted that people were only allowed to stay for an hour and a half (a completely made up rule I’ve never heard of for a tea house— and besides we weren’t forewarned of this when we were first seated). From the beginning she had very stand off-ish energy and was patrolling the tea house much more like a bodyguard than a manager. I’m not sure if there was an element of discrimination in her decision to remove us but either way the experience was embarrassing and upsetting. I will say, the tea itself was excellent and the rest of the staff were lovely.

I was a big fan of the old Quilliam Brothers and was thrilled to see it was reopening as Clarement Teahouse. First visit today was not a good one unfortunately thanks to a very poor management decision. This has always been a busy teahouse with a wait to be seated expected. For that wait you were guaranteed a lovely cup of tea and an intimate conversation space with a friend/partner/relative. However, along with a few other bemused and clearly uncomfortable pairs/threes, today we were seated at a small table with a three we did not know. The table in question could have fit four snugly. For a couple and a three it involved us awkwardly trying to maintain our own conversations with our knees repeatedly knocking. Trying to maximise sales by sitting unknown groups very close together at what should be an intimate tea house is NOT going to keep this place popular for long. Either get more two person tables or accept not everyone can be seated at once. Very out of touch management decision suggesting an ignorance of why people come to a teahouse.

My boyfriend actually told me about this place and i was SHOOK that i'd never been before as a dedicated lover of tea (my body is 70% tea at all times). Since my first visit, i've been hooked. The selection of tea is INCREDIBLE - any flavour you could ever dream of! Whatever mood you're in, there's a tea for it. The food is also delicious, especially breakfast, and great value for the large portion. The staff are super friendly and helpful in offering advice about tea flavours. There was not the usual long queues that we had seen on our previous visits and there had been a change of ownership and a name change but this place has still hung on to everything that makes it special. We opted for the cooked breakfasts one of which was the vegetarian option which came with fried haloumi and both came with perfectly cooked poached eggs and a pot of stollen tea each, seems a shame that we chose the same tea when they have over a 100 to choose from. This place has put in lots of measures to make it Covid secure and we also got a 15% discount for being NHS staff.

Is it wrong to go somewhere called The Tea House and only drink coffee? This quaint cafe has a bible of tea, fantastic baked cakes and (the pièce de résistance) their very own private underground cinema! We stopped by whilst on a weekend trip to Newcastle and sat in the beautiful downstairs section of the cafe for a little brunch. Since its change over from Quilliams I hadn't been, so yesterday I visited with friends in the evening time.We were disappointed by an expensive menu and a few of our favourite items weren't there. Vegan banana chocolate cake was one of my favourite ever items there and wasn't sure if it was still around as couldn't see it on the board. The nachos are now without the beans and it's just basically nacho chips, with sauce and cheese, bit boring. Nachos was one of the main reasons we went to quilliams but now I don't feel like paying that much for less than it's best.We came in, looked at the menu and decided to go to Coffee Trader instead. I think lots of people will really love this place as its cute and has good veggie/vegan options but it's just not the same for me and my friends when our favourite items we bought frequently aren't there/different, compared to when it was Quilliams :(

Perfectly balanced : spices, chopped walnuts, compact and moist... One of the best ones I ever tasted. Also to dye for: the shortbread with salted caramel and thin chocolate layer! We also had eggs Benedict and a club sandwich with glazed ham : very well served, savory. Perfect Cappuccino and lovely Chai latte. Small remark : cutlery was not clean.

I used to love Quilliams. This is my first visit since changing hands and, sadly, it is not as good; it is not special any more. You still get a great range of teas but the food we had was really poor. Obviously I miss the old specials ( potatoes with the sandwiches, Big Q, pulled pork with nachos, not the same range of cakes) but the replacements are not very good ( and now seem expensive for very average food). I'll still go back for the tea but that is all. So sad.

It’s over a year since our last visit to Newcastle. Lunch at Quilliam’s has always been a highlight. Somehow yesterday’s visit was not quite there. The establishment has clearly been taken over since we were last here. No Mexican Pulled Pork on the menu any more, no Big Q roast beef and critically, no Tunisian Orange cake! There is the same great range of teas, and the food offering is still better than many places but there was no sign of a stottie cake anywhere. Not what it once was.

As a regular customer I have been left shocked at the frankly archaic and outdated way that they treat disabled customers. Following recent major surgery I contacted QB to enquire about how they may be able to help disabled customers in this place. However attempting to contact them is literally impossible. Their website states you can contact them via FB, Twitter, 'Contact us' button & email. They do not respond to messages on FB, they do not respond to tweets on Twitter, their 'contact us' button takes you to an error page & when you contact via email, emails are returned stating their DNS address is invalid. After two days of this I chose to ring them to ask my enquiry. When I mentioned the problems I had contacting them, there was no apology or thanks for pointing out the errors in their website which is poor customer service. I asked if a disabled person was planning to visit the cafe if it would be possible to ensure an upstairs table was available so that the trip was not wasted and time & effort was not spent going somewhere that is not disabled friendly. I was told this was not possible & if a disabled customer wished to visit, they would have to wait like everyone else for an upstairs table to become available as going downstairs would not be possible. The issue with waiting however is that the area you wait for a table is small and narrow & waiting there on crutches/wheelchair would be uncomfortable and getting in the way of everyone else. I expected a company in today's society to understand that disabled people should be accommodated for and good customer service would be to try and come to some arrangement that would benefit both themselves and their customers. I am disappointed that they are not willing to try and accommodate disabled customers when a simple solution is actually readily available. Disabled people suffer enough abuse and ill treatment as it is, nevermind feeling excluded from a place that they would love to visit. Their customer service is poor and you cant even contact a manager to speak to them or make a complaint.

My first impression of this place is that the service wasn’t the best; we were told it would be a 5 minute wait, which turned into about 15 minutes. We were asked if we’d be alright on the cushions under the stairs; assuming it’d be sufficiently spacious and have floor cushions, I said yes. Turns out I literally had to hunch over and the cushions were very flat and uncomfortable, so we went to another free table. We were then told we couldn’t sit there and the staff member sat some other people there. We were eventually seated on some sofas - they were comfortable but the leather was peeling off.

I've been coming to Quilliams for years and years now, and it is consistently outstanding. The tea selection is a amazing, but the food is also fantastic if you aren't much of a tea person. I've also been told that the coffee is very good. On my most recent visit, I shared the pulled pork nachos with a friend and was very impressed by the amount of meat and quality of the dish!

Had brunch with the family on Sunday morning. 6 people and the staff were really helpful finding us space. The service was first class and the food was excellent. Highly recommended.

Excellent once again. As I had an excellent sausage stottie, I played safe with a breakfast blend tea. The battenburg tea, which I enjoyed on my last visit, wouldn't have gone well with breakfast. Great service and a nice change from the corporate coffee houses taking over elsewhere. Not my first visit and won't be my last. Would be pleased to recommend it to anyone.

This was my second visit and I love it. It's unpretentious with great tasting food. The staff are super friendly too which contributes to the great atmosphere . The only downside is that it's 200 miles from home!

Food was fresh, tasty, hot and delicious. The space is quirky with a cosy and family feel. We went on a Saturday so was busy but we got a table with no hassle. Waiters were friendly and knowledgeable.only slight thing is service was sllloooooow. Took a long time to come back round..it didnt seem they had a system..is it one server a section? One server on drinks? One server on Food? I would of ordered another round of drinks but we didn't have the chance.despite this I would still highly recommend to everrryonnne and would still return and say yum yum thank u.

I have been to Quilliam brothers twice, and both the times it was a lovely experience. The menu offers variety. I'd love to go there every day and try a different tea(the options are never-ending). The staff is friendly and gives nice recommendations when asked.

My meal at Quilliam Brothers was the best I had during my two week adventure in England. I had eggs benedict with sausage and Ms. P tea. The food was fresh and delicious; the atmosphere is quaint and interesting. I highly recommend!

There was quite a queue - for a good reason - it's a popular place. Nice atmosphere. Lovely food - Banana and Homemade N*tella Pancakes from the breakfast menu were excellent.

There's a lovely vibe to this place and a great choice of teas. I liked the way they removed the tea leaves to leave the strength just the way it should be - nice touch. I went on recommendation and was not disappointed. It was full of people, many students but also many not, many solo people were there working or reading or doing crosswords, unhurried, others were meeting friends. We didn't eat but it looked a good simple menu. I wish we had a place like this in my home town.

Really enjoyed our meal, reasonably priced for something a bit different, good service, but not intrusive.

We got seated straight away as it wasn’t too busy, waited 20 minutes and had to ask twice for a menu. Waited another 20 minutes for the waitress to come back for our order.

Decidí probar este lugar para un cambio. . . .

Very disappointed as there were none of the stottie sandwiches available only various food platters which was ok but not what I was expecting.

Can't complain at the quality of the food here for such a low price. The atmosphere of the place and the quirkiness also adds to the place's brilliance! Will definitely be back!

I really like this place, it does good tea and sells cakes but today I fancied a snack. Im here at 17.30 and the snacks are all for sharing ie for 2 people! What is that all about? Just a tea for me then.

A large selection of different teas, served in pots of around 3 cups per pot with the tea leaves taken out at the right time so that the tea does not stew to an undrinkable soup.

First visit here. Absolutely loads of tea choices, including some very quirky flavours. Also serve coffee, hot chocolate and soft drinks if you're not a tea lover. Ordered some cake which was delicious. Atmosphere was good and the prices & service were great!

I unashamedly go here too often. Great after lectures or late night studios as it's open till midnight and is very close to the uni campus. In the late evenings they serve their whole tea menu and cakes, but no other food. You can sit at the bar and watch the world go by or sit downstairs on the sofas or on cushions on the floor (for my less flexible friends or family members this isn't the best - they have chairs elsewhere if you ask). There's also a cinema room which occasionally plays late night movies and downstairs there is a selection of games (jenga, taboo, etc.), which are always a good laugh.

Beautiful large traybakes, huge and very scrumptious, which I got boxed and took home. Beautiful architecture and atmosphere in this old church. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Definitely will be back to sit in and try the all day breakfast menu.

This is such a gorgeous idea, in a stunning city and a beautiful location. The lady that looked after us was brilliant and she informed us on all the beautiful rescues there. Treats were provided by CatPawCino and one is able to order coffees, drinks and toasties. I had cheese and tomato and it was lovely. Highly recommend and cannot wait to go back.
