Stood for several minutes beside two empty tables for two and ignored by passing members of staff. Eventually signalled by a person who, from a metre or so, did not speak but raised two fingers and, when acknowledged, raised 5 fingers. We left. Hint for management. Snooty students are bad PR. Talking to prospective customers is a better idea.

Had a lovely brunch today with fantastic service. India was a breath of fresh air and despite being rushed off her feet delivered everything with a smile which really made the experience. The bagels were gorgeous and the drinks were served rather quickly despite how busy it was !! A lad served me my drink and even made sure I had my glass of water refilled!! All in all very attentive and happy staff with top quality service have ensured I will be returning!!

Super busy cafe, the service was good and the waitress staff were really nice. The drinks took quite a long time to come out and we had finished with our cakes before they came to the table. The menu for the drinks was really impressive of you are a tea drinker! We wanted smoothies but we're told the blender was broken. The cakes were tasty and the portions were Huge, they were too sweet for us but that's just our personal preference. There was a couple of vegan options and I got the vegan school cake. On another note, the toilet area smelled quite bad and the smell was drifting towards our table, not sure if this was exclusive to our visit but I would ask to sit somewhere else in future if we come back.

My visit to Claremont Tea House was really disappointing. The place looked nice, but the service was terrible. From the moment we arrived, both the manager and the girl at the door were unprofessional and rude, making us feel unwelcome. It wasn’t just me—my friends also noticed the unfair treatment, which made the experience even more frustrating. I’ve always enjoyed coming here from time to time, and the staff used to be wonderful, but today’s experience made me reconsider visiting again. I hope the management hires staff who truly reflect the quality of the place and treat customers with the respect they deserve.

I was really looking forward to visiting this coffee shop, but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. From the moment we walked in, one of the staff members was extremely rude and unwelcoming. Her attitude made us feel uncomfortable, and it was clear that kindness and good service were not a priority for her. The rest of the experience was overshadowed by this poor customer service, which is a shame because the place itself has potential. I hope management takes customer service seriously and addresses this issue, as no one should feel unwelcome in a place meant for hospitality.

I recently visited Claremont Teahouse and was thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing meal or catch-up with friends. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the bagels. Partnering with local favorite Dot Bagels, Claremont Teahouse offers a variety of delicious and freshly made bagels with inventive fillings. In addition to the fantastic food, the teahouse boasts an impressive selection of teas curated by Love Leaf Tea, catering to all tastes. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, enhancing the overall experience. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty breakfast, a light lunch, or just a cup of tea with a sweet treat, Claremont Teahouse is a must-visit in Newcastle. I can’t wait for my next visit!

The matcha they use is very low grade, almost no flavour, poor colour, and was served in a literal pint glass of milk. I also ordered the spanakopita, which ended up being 99% feta with a few leaves of spinach placed on top, served with some slimy salad leaves. We've also found some of the staff to be slightly off with us. Really disappointing, used to love coming here under previous ownership. I hope they make some changes but for now I won't be back.

I had to go up to the counter to ask if it was table service because staff were literally nowhere to be seen, and the girl at the counter was on her phone when I approached. After this it took another five minutes to be waited on, and we had to ask three times for water throughout the meal before it was brought to us. One of our waitresses (tall with curly hair) was very passive aggressive and unfriendly. Overall terrible service experience, and the food was fine at best.

Seated downstairs, initially was quite a long wait for our order and subsequently for drinks to arrive (hence 4 star Vs 5). The food was great, the table adjacent ordered bagels which looked amazing but we just had some snack bits which tasted awesome. We used to come when it was QB, one thing that fell short was the tea, it came with the leaves still in and no saucer etc. To remove meaning that the tea was quickly overbrewed. One thing which always stood out was the rigour of tea making at QB, Claremont still use many of the same teas but for some reason don't adopt the brew instructions of the old QB tins and leave the tea in the pots. Recommend to provide a timer to go with the tea pot and a saucer to stand it on once brewed (which seems a mess on and recipe for lots of noise and mess on). Or just brew at bar and serve the ready brewed tea as QB used to do.

Really wanted to enjoy this place as I loved it in it's previous iteration and love Dot bagels but the service here is dreadful. Stood waiting to be seated for a long while, ordered tea and scones, the scones were super underwhelming and we waited 50 minutes for the tea to show up and it never did, when we went to pay they didn't realise they hadn't brought us our tea? It's literally the main reason you'd go here. Think training is really needed and service would have to vastly improve for anyone to return, reading previous reviews it looks like any in the last 3 months have noted slow or bad service so maybe try it if you have enough time to kill, not doing 1 star as I'm sure if stuff arrives it's nice.

I was initially pleased to see the tea house reopen when it was taken over, but this doesn’t live up to Quilliam’s at all. I’ve been three times since it opened in the hope it would improve, but I’ve ended up always being disappointed. The staff are really poorly trained (and haven’t improved), and just seem to ignore anything you ask. I got a takeout order on my second visit, I asked for a single cup of tea and realised once I left that they’d given me coffee. The cakes are generally quite dry and seem to be left out for days. It’s always busy, which makes me want to give it another try, but it’s not worth the time or money for such low quality and poor service. I don’t really leave reviews, but I’m so disappointed I had to share.

My 4 year old wanted a sausage bagel, I saw there was a bagel on the menu that had sausage, eggs, bacon, hash browns etc for £7.95, I asked the waitress if I could have just a sausage bagel for my son and she said yes. It came and it was a single sausage on a very tough bagel, not toasted, not buttered and when the bill came this bagel cost £7.
