Fuego in Newcastle upon Tyne

Tucked away in the back of Fenwicks, Fuego serves delicious small Plates and pizzas. Perfect sourdough pizza bases. Great range of small plates - try the Beef Steak and Pork Belly. Lovely veggie options too.

We recently visited Fuego in Fenwick, Newcastle, and overall, the experience was a mixed bag. The food was absolutely delicious – we had patatas bravas, soft shell crab, chicken souvlaki, sirloin steak, and tortilla, all of which were cooked to perfection. Each dish was full of flavour and beautifully presented. Our waitress was lovely and incredibly attentive throughout the meal, which made the service a standout part of the evening. She ensured we had everything we needed and checked in regularly without being overbearing. However, the atmosphere left a lot to be desired. There was no music playing, and the sound of people eating and children screaming echoed through the space, making it feel more like sitting in a supermarket café than a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant. It lacked the ambience you’d expect for a place with such good food and service, which was a real shame. If they could work on creating a more inviting and vibrant atmosphere, it would truly elevate the dining experience. While we’d recommend Fuego for the food and service, we’d also suggest going during quieter times to avoid the noise.

The fish tacos are crispy, fresh, and topped with zesty salsa.

Came here for restaurant week and the food is delicious! Tapas portion sizes are decent and brilliant service and atmosphere.

Arrived for a pre booked meal for 2 having enjoyed our first visit in November, only to be seated right next to the till where staff were back and forth to enter transactions and brushing past to serve the tables behind. The till was literally touching my shoulder. This table should not be there we felt they were cramming people in. We immediately asked to move tables as we could see other 2 seater tables only to be told they were booked however one remained empty or total time we were there and other came up during our stay which out of good customer service we could of been offered to move to as they could see we were unhappy. I feel they were being obstructive. I asked the waiter if when booking you can request a table he said you can but it’s just a request and tables cannot be booked, if that’s the case and they place people and there was a table available why could we not be moved as I mentioned one was empty right until just before we left . We found the table far too small for 3 tapas dishes and a pizza which they had to stand on 3 tins of tomatoes. The wine was a little overpriced and the meatball a rip off seems strange only 3 for £8 not 4 . The other food was nice. I opted not to pay the 10% service charge of £8 due to the service. We spent £80 and left feeling we wish we had got up and left when first offered the table and told there were no alternatives. My advice is I wouldn’t book unless you want a poorly situated table

Restaurant within the food hall at Fenwick department store. They sell pizzas, tapas etc. I had two tapas dishes and a glass of champagne - a lovely treat for a shopping day. The sharing boards also looked wonderful.

I love coming here. Service is always excellent. Food is always delicious.

Lovely service and great atmosphere, fab glass of house white. Definitely worth a visit when in Newcastle, Sinead (waitress) is an asset to the place too, in fact all the staff were very attentive and welcoming and smiley . 👏👏👏

Absolutely wonderful food and service. I managed to book a table last minute for lunch on Saturday. The food arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious. We shared a mushroom pizza, vegetarian platter and patatas bravas. The cherry non alcoholic cocktail was the nicest drink I’ve ever had.

Pretty good. I always thought it was a bit pretentious, but they’re quite friendly. I’d say 3 or 4 dishes per person. I really liked the charred broccoli and the mackerel. The sea bass, crab croquettes, hummus and desserts were nice. I wouldn’t reorder the ribeye or the lamb tagine. Expensive for what they were.

Love this place. Always a lively atmosphere and the food is really good.

My guilty pleasure. I love to visit on my day off on my own and enjoy a bite and a glass of wine or two.

Definitely the place to be seen, very fashionable.

Lovely early pre theatre dinner, I enjoyed some olives, bread & prawn’s, all delicious, mums pizza looked super tasty too. Way better than the far pricier & rather ostentatious Saltwater. Wonderful friendly service, Owain was a delight. Can’t wait to bring the kids for pizza-our favourite, Neapolitan style. Been again a few times since writing this review and it’s been consistently good, staff always lovely but wanted to give a particular mention to Hanna today who was exceptional. Thank you and go get that 🦋

We always have brekkie here whilst staying in Newcastle Absolutely the best avocado and packed eggs ever. Fabulous ambience and superb service. Can't wait to go back.

This is just a little oasis of heaven. Had more than a few ice cold proseccos which were utterly divine. Followed by a sea bass and scallop lunch, small but perfectly made portions. I always feel utterly chilled and spoiled here. The service and food is amazing. A rather nice midweek treatscallps and sea bass were absolutely divine x

Great tapas at this lovely Mediterranean restaurant within fenwicks! Cocktail was delicious whilst the gambas and polpette stood out on the mains. Expensive but if you are looking to splash out and savour some exquisite tapas in Newcastle then look no further

Had a great quick lunch here with the wife and kids. Our little girl was given some crayons and a drawing pad. Food was perfect for a quick bite.

Had some tapas and a bottle of red wine. The pork belly is gorgeous as are the prawns. Nice atmosphere and well worth a visit. Quite expensive if you're on a budget. Oh the sharing board of meats and cheeses was delicious

Great restaurant, fast service and pleasant atmosphere

I visited as a solo diner for lunch. With Fuego being a chain and inside a shopping centre, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I was seated straight away, and the waitresses were incredibly welcoming and chatty (even providing recommendations for good choices on the menu!). Fuego serves small plated (tapas) which are perfect for a light lunch, or for many to be shared. I opted for the crusted seabass and tahini tenderstem broccoli. Both were impeccably cooked and seasoned. The fish especially; super tender and crusted on the outside. Wine list was also extensive; the Sauvignon Blanc I tried was fresh and complex, and they can also be purchased from the Wine Shop next-door.

The food was absolutely delicious. Best pizza I’ve ever had. The service is very good and the restaurant is very clean with tables well spaced out. However the dessert was terrible. We had almond milk panna cotta which had absolutely no flavour. It was like a thick, tasteless emulsion.

Every dish ordered was perfect on the eye and inside the mouth. It's a shame that we don't live locally as we would be regulars. Friendly and efficient service. We'll done

Food was just OK - service could be improved. They claim to have a woodfired oven but it looked as though it was gas-fired.

Lovely restaurant to pop into whilst shopping in Newcastle. Great service, my pizza arrived promptly and it was delicious.

Delicious food, well presented - great low key Sunday late lunch. All that we ordered were great. Only fault was somewhat disinterested waitstaff, perhaps inexperienced, who just plonked the dishes on the table without much care. Maitre d' took the feedback well and rotated the staff (even though we didn't ask for it) Flights of wine/bubbles makes decision easier :p

Over priced for small portions. Service poor as they got 2 of the orders wrong. Also they bill you for a service charge on top of your bill. Not going back. Toilets is also on another floor with 4 staff members from fenwicks waiting around the toilet area doing nothing.

Overpriced eatery for people with no taste. Reviews were good so we gave it a go, but wasnt worth it at all. £8.5 for 3 frozen croquettes... you should be ashamed. No vibe/music. The atmosphere was pretty much sad... the quality and price didnt meet at all. Service was ok, but just ok. Everything is more about the class than the food. Avoid...

Visited on a quiet Sunday afternoon, table for 2 was booked beforehand. Food was well presented and drinks menu is good but overall 3 stars because the service was pretty poor. Ignored by maitre d' and wait staff after seating, no drinks order taken until 25 minutes and only when asked.

Lovely staff, fantastic menu and beautiful food that is well presented. Didn't have to wait long but neither were we rushed.

Check your bill, they add a service charge on, but yesterday they didn't... Check your bill!!!

Went this evening for a young person's birthday and it was a lovely early evening. Child's menu offers good value for money @ £8 (and drinks aren't obscene prices for a soft drink) & the adults had (i) bread basket (ii) vegetable platter with patas bravas & (iii) almond milk panacotta. If you are vegan you will be OK but ask for without cheese etc. But one could easily enough eat around. The wine was nice and competitive priced per glass. The Italian pinot grigo from the wine list was the better of the two but both OK. I've eaten here a few times both as a pescatarian and a vegan & it's been delicious. Service has been great everytime too & that's more often with a child than with just adults - brunch at the bar though is a great treat for adults 👌

Very dissatisfied customer, we used to go here regularly before the lock down. Portions have been halfed to what they were previously. Price's have increased not value for money or even quality of food which is very disappointing as it used to be excellent quality of food and price. Sorry will not be coming back.

Tres Bonne as the Italians would say (I know before anyone tells me) Been a few times. Waxalicious bait, reasonable price and quick service. As a side note, check the wristwatches of other diners. As a fan of horology it's always a pleasant bonus. Seems people with considerable wedge eat here, don't let that put you off.

This was my first time there highly recommend by my son who really rates the food. Also I have to mention the lovely waitress who was outstanding wish I new her name, but I will definitely be back. Thank you all at FUEGO

Lovely starter pulpo (octopus) .Mail meal steak the waitress suggested patatas brava as the steak was small she said . She was right the steak was very small. The wine we had whilst waiting for a table was really nice (Fog Mountain9 ) The price was a bit expensive £8.50p per glass water next time I think . Overall nice food nice surrounds good service . My only gripe was the cost of the wine.

Brilliant service and gorgeous food.

Accommodated a group of 7 from different households, which is illegal. Found two hairs in a pastry I got. Beard hairs, pubic hairs, who knows?? I did email them directly and the response was that they were satisfied social distancing was followed and also satisfied with hygiene standards.

Love calling in here for bite to eat and a drink. Good menu, food has always been great quality. The staff are friendly and working fantastically well during covid

The food was lovely. Service was great, but you have to walk to a different floor if you need the toilet. By that time I came back and my food was cold. If the food Hall had toilets I'd give a higher rating.

Best food So I went to fuego after I DONE some shopping in Fenwick and I ordered a margarita pizza and when it came I thought oh my god it had a lovely tomato sauce topped with motrezzeala and fresh basil it was the best pizza ever and now it is my fav restoraunt defo recommend and the staff are so nice

Apart from the food being amazing the Manager Steph was also truly amazing, never been anywhere before where the service has acknowledged our 5 year old Sons autism to the level of what can only be described as, pizza dough flour sand castle play at the table, to stimulate Salvators sensory needs, of course our other 4 year old Ruben natually participated, with big smiles & interaction all round with major destress & relax for Mum & Dad...thank you Steph & Fuegos the food and service all round was incredible, you made our weekend! x see you soon...🤠
