The best restaurants in Tendring East of England

Love it! Lovely chips and great service!

After a terrible experience a year ago we thought we'd give Thaal another shot. Ordered 3 happy night meals. We chose to collect thinking food would be hotter but was rather cold. Hardly any chicken in the main dishes. The lamb palak and lamb chat was slow cooked lamb rather than leg meat but tasted ok. The onion bhajis were hard and old. The rice and breads were nice. Wasn't worth the price. Sadly won't be ordering again.

This was the first time visiting The Wooden Fender for me, and it certainly didn't disappoint. I would absolutely recommend the Salt Marsh Lamb Sunday roast, it was to die for!! The service was very good and the staff are very attentive. Overall, a very enjoyable experience..well done The Wooden Fender a very well deserved 5 stars from me.

My dad Ron loves this subway, he goes daily with family and has a breakfast sub. The staff are friendly, helpful and kind. Thank you for making my dad welcome everyday.

Milkshake machine being cleaned again, everytime i use this store the milkshake machine is always being cleaned, not been able to buy a milkshake for weeks, very disapointing.

No stars if I could, awful, avoid !!!

The coffee’s always good. But on a recent visit the card reader wasn’t working so the coffee tasted even better as they were giving it away ;)

An utterly disappointing Doner Kebab. Tasteless meat. Inedible chips. Zero garlic taste in the ‘garlic’ mayo sauce. Straight in the bin. Lesson learnt, never again!

Don’t take card, either they’re on the fiddle or want their business to fail, who doesn’t accept card payments in 2024 ?? Rude staff… The chap who seemed to be either the manager or at least senior enough, verbally confronted me across the premises when I said jokingly I’d have a word with the Pier management about the Chip shop not accepting card payments - he said ‘What are they gonna do?’ Obviously this chap had not had the best day that day, or, he doesn’t have a great working relationship with the Pier management. Anyhow, his loss, there’s other places to buy chips in Clacton. I won’t be spending my cash there again.

I visited the Martello Lounge last week with my husband. The staff were friendly and helpful, the seating comfortable and the view to die for. We originally visited just to have coffee, however when ordering my husband was tempted by their vegetarian breakfast. To drink he had a mocha while I had a soya Chai latte and both were delicious. When his breakfast arrived, it looked amazing. Everything was perfectly cooked and it was presented beautifully on the plate. He thoroughly enjoyed his food and because of the overall atmosphere and food and drink quality we will definitely be back again. The Martello Lounge is the perfect place to watch the sea in comfort.

What a shame!! We drove here & ordered a lamb phall, chicken dhansak, peshwari naan (they spell it “nan”), garlic naan, 2 pappadoms & a pot of mint sauce. What we received was far from the above. The lamb phall had 7 bits of lamb in it with not a single chilli in sight & had the heat of a terrible madras. It just tasted of powdered spices. The chicken dish was bland & not anything like a dhansak. Both the “peahwari” naan & “garlic” naan didn’t have any coconut or garlic in them. On the plus side the pappadoms were delicious. Our entire order came to £23, so I suppose it’s true. You get what you pay for.

Classic seaside fish & chips place. Food freshly cooked. Takeaway. Decent range. Minimarket (offie) over the road. Service friendly but rather slow - a result of how busy they were. Lot of people milling around the service counter, in each others way; would advise them to try to organise a better waiting system eg give a number to each order? There are tables inside but seemed hot and noisy.

I love coming here for my seafood. We look forward to it when we visit from London every year. Their food is always fresh and such good quality. The portion sizes are great for the money too. Even my teenage son is now a Dan. The staff are always so friendly too. The large seafood salads were sold out but they made me and son some up there and then. Very pleased with the service these lovely ladies offer.

Had a lovely meal this evening. Great food very friendly staff. We also went back in July to celebrate my 70th birthday again very good food enjoyed by everyone. Also staff very polite and efficient helped made my day special. Thankyou
