The Wooden Fender in Tendring

Had the duck, it was delightful and we were still talking about it the following day. The staff from the barman who welcomed us to the waiting staff we met, were exceptionally friendly and polite. It was 5 star on every front, I just wish that I lived closer, so I could visit more often.

Great place for meat and desserts, not tried the veggie or gluten free yet. A little on the more expensive side in cost but well worth it.

We had a table of 20 booked today, everyone’s meals were brought out within minutes of each other, piping hot. Every single person enjoyed their meals, the food and service was impeccable. Thank you to all the staff for such a great day.

Excellent venue. Staff were lovely, service was quick, despite there being more than 20 in our party. Food was delicious. Definitely recommend a visit.

First time eating here and it was incredible. They had an amazing amount to choose from and being vegetarian that makes a wonderful change. It tasted as good as it sounded and was great value for money. The service was exceptional with a really relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. We are planning going again real soon.

Probably one of the best Sunday roasts I have had and definitely the best locally. Went for the beef and turkey option. It came with plenty of veg, a great Yorkshire pudding, pigs in blankets and amazing roast potatoes. The cherry Bakewell and warm custard was amazing too. In all, Worthy of 6 stars if I could.

Hadn't booked but staff were really friendly and moved some tables to fit us on. Great service and the food was well cooked pub food classics. Under priced when you consider quality and service.

Great pub with an excellent selection of beers

Myself and my Mum love this restaurant. The food and service is fantastic.

I took my Mum, Nan and Sister here on Wednesday for an early mother’s day meal out, and my god did it not fail to impress. We arrived for our booking and were sat quickly and a drinks order was taken, the specials menu was truly something for everyone and was extremely spoiled for choice - as i had trouble deciding on my starter, main and dessert there was too many things i wanted to try! Lee was our waiter and he could not have been more attentive, friendly and wonderful, from start to finish he was incredible! The food arrived and oh my goodness it was all cooked to perfection, everyone on the table said what a gem this place is and how wonderful and friendly the staff are. I would go as far to say that the service and food we had here was possibly the best experience i’ve had dining out ever and we have not stopped recommending and raving to everyone about it since! We will definitely be back and thank you to all the wonderful staff that work so hard and made our day incredible.

Fantastic food with even better service. Their attention to detail is outstanding and the attentiveness of the wait staff is far beyond majority of pubs in the area. We were a table of two and although almost fully booked they fit us in and made us feel comfortable. Zero complaints and an exemplary restaurant.

Had a meal here recently with my family and I was super impressed with all aspects of the visit. The food was delicious and was enjoyed all round, and I thought the service received from the front of house staff was impeccable. They were super friendly and efficient and I’d highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!

It is easy to feel nervous when entering a place to dine alone, but I needn't have worried as I was immediately put at ease by the friendly welcome of the bar staff. Ordered the 8oz rump steak which was one of the best I've had for a long time, full of flavour. The garlic sautéed mushrooms were fantastic too! The place was busy for a Tuesday night and clearly a regular for some, judging by the rapport with staff, despite a slightly out of the way location. I would heartily recommend this place to others.

Have been going to this place over many years, hadn't been since before the pandemic. Food was fabulous, tasty and hot, didn't wait very long for it, we were not rushed either, staff super.

2 weeks ago we stopped here on the way home and decided to book a table for today to try there Sunday roast...omg and it wasn't disappointing...hand on heart it's the best roast lamb I've had eating out...the cauliflower cheese was to die for...I'm normally fussy about it everywhere but wow..the meat was cooked to perfection.....it was not small either...cannot wait to book again ...the staff are amazing...a real gem of a place

We had been wanting to eat here for a while but previously didn’t think there were many veggie options on the menu. However the menu has obviously been updated since we last looked with lots of veggie options! 😁 so we stopped by spontaneously for lunch, managed to get a table and had a lovely meal. All the staff were very, polite, warm, welcoming and friendly. The food was wonderful. Couldn’t have asked for more really!! Will deffo be back!

Amazing welcome brilliant staff and wonderful food

Meet up here every 3 months or so with sister & partner, we live in Ipswich they live in Harwich. Just a nice place for a treat. Today 3 of us had Thai cod with prawns & mussels, new pots, & green veg, omg how yummy was this. The other had the salmon & said that was great too. Desserts are always fab, cherry bakewell with ice cream for 2 of us & 2 biscoff roulade, we rolled out to the car park 😋 😀 This place is always busy, you need to book, never take a chance on it as this place is always booked solid with people waiting Food is always excellent & really tasty & different. Never had anything to dislike & the place has real atmosphere The staff are wonderful,, totally delightful, greeted & welcomed cheerfully & on departure it was a goodbye & thank you. Little touches that make it worthwhile. There's a huge car park but only 1disabled parking space. The car park is tarmac & flat so 3 or 4 spaces nearer the entrance would be great. It also allows for those who need to open their doors fully to get out. Can this happen??? Please🙏 I don't know if there is a disabled toilet but the one in the bar area is pretty ok.....never noticed a fully compliant disabled toilet. There's not alot of room to maneuver a wheelchair, so table in bar area would be a must too.

Lovely experience here. The food was absolutely wonderful, staff were friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Great vegan options too! Would recommend and hope to go again.

First time here, car park can get busy with odd parking spaces. Very friendly staff and very clean. Good choice of food with specials all served quite quickly and very hot. Reasonable prices. Mon to thurs it closes at 3pm to get ready for the evening, open all day fri to sun. Will visit again.

Went for a big birthday meal with the family and wow, what brilliant service and brilliant food!! The roast dinner was huge. It was really busy but service was superb 👌 can't wait to come back again; fantastic job too all concerned.

This was my first visit here and we wasnt disappointed. The roast dinner was the best i've had in years, even the roasted carrots were divine and cooked to perfection. Will definitely go again soon

A family member booked our table & what a great choice. A large array of dishes, gluten free options very good choice. Food was freshly prepared & all home cooked & was delicious. Staff were attentive, welcoming & friendly highly recommended. It was very busy so I would book ahead if possible.

Went there for lunch today, the food was amazing I literally couldn’t fault it, huge compliments to the chefs. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Will definitely be going back to this place.

The service is always good here, prices are not cheap, but sensible. Whilst we had a couple of little niggles with our meals, the service was excellent by friendly staff and we shall certainly be returning. Thanks all!

Visited in May ‘23 and I must say it was the best meal we had in our 3 weeks of travel! Hubby had the special vegetarian menu and I had my own gluten free menu! Was absolutely superb and the cosy vibe was just what we wanted from an English pub. If you’re in the area, please go, you won’t be disappointed!

Went there for a Sunday Roast or the 1st time last week. Even though we arrive quite late (7pm) and their kitchen was about to close, they still made us a nice roast dinner. Beef was tender! We are definitely going back again.

Good food, clean venue. Always busy so you need to book. Mix of specials of the day and standard menu fare. Staff are helpful and courteous. Always good to visit.

We went here for a wedding rehearsal dinner and it was great! Loved the atmosphere and the food was very good. I got the Fender Sampler which had just about everything on the menu. Don't worry, I didn't eat it all and it was more than enough to share around.

Superb food and friendly service. We came here to get some rest and have dinner before we took a night ferry from Harwich and absolutely enjoyed it. Even on a weekday it was pretty full so it's advisable to book a table in advance. My wife had a Caesars Salad and I had their fish stew. Both portions were absolutely delicious and big, we didn't even manage a dessert afterwards. Easy parking directly next to the Pub and they also have a garden to the back to sit outside if the weather is nice.

Took a sunday drive out for a random lunch and decided to swiftly pop in and see if Wooden Fender could accommodate us. We was met with a very warm welcome and although very busy they very kindly squeezed us in. The food was amazing along with the service and great atmosphere with no clicky feel that you can sometimes come across. I had the wild salmon and my partner had the roast beef. We will DEFINITELY be returning for more and highly recommend 👌

I visited The Wooden Fender last night with a group of friends. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and the food was lovely. However, I felt that the dining area was very bright and noisy and I was disappointed that there was only 1 vegetarian meal on the menu. Luckily I enjoyed it!

Came yesterday for a family Sunday lunch. It was very good, as usual. This was our third visit since the Summer, inspite of us living 45 miles away. The food is always hot, nicely presented with plenty of choice. This is a very clean, COVID aware pub/restaurant. The toilets are very clean. Prices are very reasonable with good portion sizes. All the staff are very friendly and polite. Plenty of free parking. Recommended

We’ve Just returned from a wonderful lunch for my birthday. Although it was busy, the service was outstanding, the food arrived quickly and was cooked to perfection. The enthusiastic staff really were a delight and are a great asset this wonderful establishment.
