Never had worse service. Waiting for ridiculous amount of time for everything and they forgot drinks orders on multiple occasions. In addition to this, all staff sat there together chatting and chilling. Missed off basics like giving steak knives (had to repeatedly ask) and gave orders to the wrong people. It was our grandmother / mothers 90th birthday so a very special occasion pretty much ruined. New manager was very apologetic and went some way to making things better. And gave discount which was appreciated. She assured the service is being worked on. Overall though a shockingly bad experience. Also more plant based options needed.

We came here last Sunday for lunch with family as we have not got together in a while! I had not been to The Robin Hood for at least 3 years, but must say what a lovely dining experience! The food and surroundings were delicious and warming made even better by the fabulous service from out waitress Megan! She really made our visit extra enjoyable with her energy and funny personality! It must be said that she was also very professional and personable! Will definitely be returning! Xx

Had a lovely meal at The Robin Hood yesterday evening. We had Stacy as our waitress, she was friendly and helpful. We also had a great conversation with Amy, the assistant manager who answered a few questions we had. All round lovely evening.

The atmosphere here is lovely, warm and inviting. Our waitress ‘Megan’ was lovely, lively and engaging. She did her upmost to make us laugh and made the effort to check on us multiple times which we found to be very thoughtful. Amy the assistant manager was equally as attentive and polite and couldn’t have done enough to ensure we had a lovely evening, however Tilly at the bar was grumpy and somewhat dare I say it, Rude! She seemed uninterested and lacking in effort. She seemed as though she didn’t want to be here unlike everyone else. Sorry!! Great place and we plan to come back often!

The battered fish was poor, I think changing the oil in the fryer would help and a more generous portion of mushy peas would have been appreciated.

Just had an excellent, family lunch in this pub and loved it. Starting with Amy who sat us at a very comfortable table and took our drinks order. After a few minutes she came back and explained a few things on the menu and we ordered. I had the Signature Burger... It was a different level and highly recommended. My wife had the Gammon and Eggs which she loved. The other members of our party had the Lasagne and the Chicken Pie. We were all delighted with the meal and the service. We will be back. Thank you Amy and thank you the Robin Hood.

We come here regularly and have been pleasantly surprised to see Megan has moved from the Kingscliff to The Robin Hood. She is an absolutely fantastic edition, bringing great energy and fun wherever she goes. An absolute credit to the business and we will now make a special effort to come more often not only for the great food, but for the fantastic service and experience Megan provides. Keep killing it Megan!

Really enjoyed our food tonight. Good price for 3 courses, and very good sizing of each meal. Amy our server, was really nice. Very good service. All around just a lovely meal out, nice cute building. Will defo be back for the pie next time!

We are down for a few days to celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday. When we arrived at tte restaurant we were greeted by Megan who was so friendly & welcoming. My mother has dementia & is easily confused and Megan was considerate to her needs. Megan chit chatted to us while we ordered & I learned that Megan is a fellow Lutonian which was amazing 😂 We didn’t feel rushed, the food was delicious & our table was ideal. A different chair was instantly produced for a mature lady who prefers a higher one with arms. All in all a great birthday celebration which was enhanced by the service Megan & the Robin Hood team gave.

We recently visited the Robin Hood Pub with our friends who were in town, making it a party of four. Megan, our server, was exceptionally helpful and friendly, and she made a big fuss over our friends’ border collie, Red, which really added to the warm atmosphere. The food was served quickly and was of good quality, offering excellent value for money. The pub has a lovely, friendly atmosphere, and the manageress even came over to meet Red—definitely a dog-friendly place! We will absolutely be returning.

Don't want to go back personally but my company didn't have any problems and my furbaby enjoyed the attention...

Best place I've been... Totally changed with Amy being here. Made me feel comfortable and welcome didn't need to wait for a drink which makes a change. Amy really has made a difference to that place. Great atmosphere and relaxed. Now I feel welcome again with a smiley face as I walk in.

Visited here last year so decided to visit again with good friends, what can I say the food was amazing Tracy our server excellent. Amy and her staff are really bubbly and helpful they really make you feel at home. The atmosphere is good a proper English pud. Give it a visit you won’t be sorry,

Lovely welcome and the food was fantastic. It's just changing to new management and they are making a concerted effort to make you happy. Only criticism is that the real ales Doom Bar was warm and should have been chilled. Good luck for the future and everyone.

Not as advertised all I got is a burger and cold chips no halloumi fries not a burger experience not impressed

Some food came almost cold, with 1 dish was slightly warmer than others. Food tasted ok just would of tasted better if hotter. Delivery took an hour n 20minutes to arrive, when ordered before the food has been hotter and delivery has been quicker.

We had a lovely lunchtime get together with friends and the food, drinks and staff were fantastic. If you want a really nice menu in a place that is dog friendly then this is the one to choose. Megan and Tom excelled themselves making us and Tess, our black lab, welcome and tending to all our needs. It was much appreciated and we look forward to going back there soon.

Came here for my 18th today! The atmosphere was so lovely and I couldn't have asked for a better night, Amy was more than accommodating and made sure we had everything we could've needed! Couldn't recommend more!!

We visited here on Friday evening. We had booked a table for 7. When we arrived our table was ready for us. We was served by Megan. Megan was friendly and helpful told us about all the specials and was knowledgeable about the menu. Our food was lovely and arrived in a timely manner. There was other groups eating but you didn't feel like you was sitting on top of each other and we wasn't rushed. Was reasonable priced for the quality of food. All staff were great especially Megan who made us laugh and checked we were happy with food and service. Would definitely recommend the Robin Hood and would eat here again

A great traditional pub with a friendly welcome. Celebrating the 18th birthday of our twin daughters and friends, with a few drinks and really tasty bar snacks from the great bar snack menu. An absolutely lovely experience - brilliant food and an extremely friendly service. We came in for a drink and had a look a the menu, so booked a table a couple of days later, and we’re not disappointed. We had had lovely food an excellent service.

Excellent pub, incredibly dog friendly, went in there for dinner, they had a brilliant selection of drinks and a great menu, my dog Maggie was treated like a queen and everyone made a fuss over her.

My experiences at the Robin Hood have been a bit up and down in the past but I have to say that the new team here are doing a great job. Very welcoming and attentive. We both had the Sea Bass with prawns..really tasty. A special mention for Meghan..a funny and witty server, Keep up the good work guys, we’re looking forward to another visit soon. 😁

From the moment we arrived we were made welcome. Our server Megan was bubbly, funny, and welcoming. We sadly arrived too late for a Sunday Roast (Arrived 7pm) But the food we finally chose was lovely. All the staff we spoke to was very friendly. They turned our disappointment at lack of Roast dinner around into a lovely funny, warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Was very disappointed with our visit. Had booked a table of 4 at 7:30. Order our starters and mains by 7:45. Starters then took about half an hour to come out and only after asking did they check on anything. Mains where then at least another 15-20 minute wait so overall was very very slow service and to get anyone's attention you had to get up. Definitely won't be returning.

Had a lovely lunch today, the manager Amy was friendly attentive and a smile that lit the room up She made sure she was aware we had no allergies,which I felt a very important question. Our drinks were served promptly as was our lunch Will definitely be back next week to experience it all over again

Stopped in for lunch and staff were so accommodating for our family member in a wheelchair. Excellent service and Amy in particular made us feel very welcome. Highly recommend a visit.

Booked table for 6pm arrived table in bar as had dog, was not ready place was dirty no staff. I have been to the Robin Hood many times will not be going again walked out very disappointed

Whilst the food that we had to order was excellent & very tasty, the fact we arrived 20mins early, perused the menu & had decided what to have by the time our table was ready at 7pm, were presented with more menus at the table & continued to confirm with each other what we were having- then went to the bar to order as instructed to be told 3 out of 4 starters were not available & 2 out of 4 mains also not available, plus the 2nd choice of a main not being available, it did dampen the mood but starters arrived & all good, good quatity however calamari was cold, the mushroomsx2 & sticky chicken all hot & no complaints on those 3. We then seemed to wait an unusually long time for the mains, chicken burger, 2x signature burgers & a hunters chicken (bearing in mind the hunters chicken was originally a 10iz ribeye, not available, so the lamb, also not available so settled for hunters chicken!) the two signature burgers came out different, it was corrected but all the while the waiter appeared annoyed which I think was due to staff shortage, even tho the pub was not overly busy it was too busy for one person which it appeared to all be on her shoulders xx anyway we ate, we left, didn’t want to hang around for another drink unfortunately x real shame as positioned perfectly between 2 holiday parks, we’re from East Midlands & saw it as a good choice, shame it disappointed x we are now a family of 4 adults when eating out so we’re pretty good covers revenue wise. Didn’t like being treated like we’d stumbled on the place despite booking in advance.

Really disappointing experience. We booked in advance and when ready to order the food, were told several items on the menu (8 or 9) were no longer available. Service was extremely slow, just one waitress (who was friendly) but was rushed off her feet despite the pub not being full. When the food eventually arrived it was mediocre. Chicken in the burger was chewy, mac n cheese was too creamy (rather than cheesy) and fish n chips were ok (at best) but could not be served with tartare sauce per the menu, as that was something else they’d also run out of. Overall a really disappointing experience and would not return.

We visited on Saturday evening, table booked for 8pm for 10 people. I received emails and text messages in the days before confirming the booking. We arrived just before 8pm and table wasnt ready, waited while they moved people around sat down about 8 15. Service was beyond slow. We finally got our food at 9. 45. Pizza was not available as they had no dough! No mushy peas with fish and chips, they missed my grandaughters food off totally. Communication was very poor, no one apologised for the delay. When the bill came the missed items were on there along with a service charge. We complained and were given a free round of drinks and service charge was removed. Young girl that we spoke to after was very apologetic. Such a shame because the food when it arrived was lovely. We left a 10% cash tip. 7 of our party said they would not return.

Three of us had lunch here today we were very disappointed the service was terrible not enough staff we ended up paid our bill and walked out.

UPDATED on Friday 23rd August 2024. Once seated at our reserved table, the service was impeccable from the waitress, who was extremely attentive and on the ball., to the Manageress who was very attentive. She checked that everything was okay with our meal at exactly the right time as well. The waiting time for the food was spot on. When it comes to the food itself, well, we could not fault the presentation, quantity or taste. It was 100% perfect. Well done Chef. I personally highly recommend the Rib Eye Steak, and My Wife, The Hunters Chicken. The Creme Brulee is a nice light finish as well. Many thanks to the staff, ( Waitress, Manageress and Chef) for making our day that little bit more special. Living locally, we do have a preference for The Robin Hood, but this service just made us want to come back again and again. Great food and reasonable prices, and great service. Highly recommended. We visited this pub for drinks and lunch. We were greeted by a very friendly bar lady called Megan who made us feel very welcome. My wife was drinking cocktails and said they were very good. All the food was cooked very well and of good quality. I would definitely recommend this pub and we will most certainly return.

We were served by Megan who was very attentive and welcoming. Saw that we got our food and drinks promptly despite it being super busy on the day.

We visited on 18 August 2024 as a party of 9 - 6 adults and 3 children, having pre booked we were sat in the bar area even though we had requested 2 tables near each other in the restaurant part of the pub. The member of staff behind the bar said to us “I might come over to your table and take your order, if I’m not too busy”. This seemed a very unprofessional way to speak to paying customers. We went up to the bar to order food and drink and was only then informed there was an hour wait for food. We decided we were prepared to wait and ordered food. We were then told there was no gas and couldn’t order draft beer or soft drinks from the gun. We waited 50 minutes before a member of staff informed us that they had run out of fish and one of our party had to change his meal. The first lot of food arrived and it was a further 20 minutes before all party members had their food. We could see other staff members hanging around outside the pub which could have helped the solo waitress to bring our food. We then waited a further 5 minutes for vegetables and gravy to come. The gravy was brought out by the chef who apologised it has been served in bowls rather than jugs and explained that they had run out of everything in the kitchen and was hoping the area manager would pay him a visit the next day so he could tell him what he thought of the restaurant which we found highly unprofessional for a member of staff. The gravy that was brought out to us was stone cold as was all of our food by the time we had waited. The restaurant was extremely quiet and we could not understand the reason for the delay. The manger came to speak to us and we did receive an apology. *** In relation to the response below from the manger stating that we did not pay for drinks. We did in fact pay for 2 rounds of drinks coming to £75. So that clearly isn’t true.

A terrible experience. We were ‘greeted’ very rudely, the girl behind the bar couldn’t have been anymore unenthusiastic to see us! The ‘manager’ then took over with a sigh. She seated us in the bar area as we had our dog, fine but then said oh I’ll have to photocopy some menus!! They did have one which had a lot of the items crossed off. The bar wasn’t able to serve any draught beers due to an issue and only had minimal bottle beers and limited drinks. We witnessed customers leaving due to this. We ordered our food at the bar, was brought our starters promptly but then waited over an hour for our mains! After our long wait staff were then telling people the wait for food was an hour, one poor family left after their young children couldn’t wait that long and the ‘manager’ was rude to the father. Very disappointing, would not return and wouldn’t recommend. We have been to other Vintage Inns so not representative of the brand

I wish to point out that since moving to the Tendring District fifteen years ago we have been visiting ‘The Robin Hood’. Prior to that frequently we used Vintage Inns venue ‘Fowlers Farm’ for a number of years when we lived and ran our business in Braintree. The standards whilst slightly variable had been acceptable and customers would know what to expect. Moving to the Tendring District fifteen years ago we have used ‘The Robin Hood’, however over the last two years or so we have found the experience not as good, the last three visits leaving us with the feeling of ‘Never again’ or ‘Will not return’. However accepting that everyone can have a bad day we said ‘Give it another try’. After wrestling with the App. which I found was confusing regarding offers and how to claim them, I managed to book online on each occasion, but…. On arrival for 12.15pm the kitchen was not on time and there was staff shortages, etc. I underline NOT THE STAFFS FAULT! If the booking start at 12pm then the kitchen should be ready by then. Last Sunday (August 18th 2024) The menu looked great on the website though a bit expensive now and I certainly was looking forward to a great meal. The same seemed to happen - we (four people) waited 45 minutes for the starters, whilst other diners who arrived later received their food before us. The starters were disappointing; The shared cheese starter did not work as a dip and could not easily be spread an the bread. The ‘Sour dough’ bread with that and the ‘Prawn Cocktail’ was dry and seemed stale, we were told that this was normal because it was toasted (lightly? - white), mostly inedible with no butter to help it down. Eventually we got the main courses three roast dinners and a Sea bass, but; the roast potatoes were very hard, veg soggy, meat plentiful but tough, including the chicken. The meals seemed to have been prepped and then stood around, not piping hot, plates hardly warm, etc. Hoping for a better finale, we chose desserts thinking it could save the day - Not really the ‘Cone’ Ice cream chocolate and the misery piece of honeycomb was much too hard to break let alone eat. The ‘Mini’ Brulees were nice but topping not crispy (No attempt had been made to fire them). I accept this is a chain organisation but at the price being charged expected better, We paid over £160 for the four of us, ample to expect a good birthday meal you would think, and by the way in the discussions as we left I forgot to claim my ‘Free Bottle of Prosecco'. We again have said ‘Never again’.

Best service from Megan. Food was delicious and my Long Island Teas hit the spot. Lovely old pub with lots of detail making for a delightful place for a catch up over good food.

Terrible. We had to wait over an hour for our food, and when it came my wife’s meal was tasteless.

We didn't stay to eat, no beer, no draught drinks and an hours wait for food. They said they were busy but hardly any tables were taken. I wouldn't bother, something is wrong.

I have just been here at lunchtime with friends and absolutely love their bar snacks idea. We all actually chose 3 each but these could've easily been shared or done as a mix. As always a friendly atmosphere with a choice of indoor or outdoor seating.

Waited an hour, cold food. Do not recommend. Appreciate they were understaffed. We will not be returning.

First time I have visited the Robin Hood. Found it to be a great friendly restaurant, meals were fantastic all staff were very helpful. Only downside was the condition of the seating which looked like they could all do with a complete overhaul. Will definitely revisit based on our experience.

Lovely meal, just over £60 for 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 cocktails. Quite busy and just 2 young girls waitressing and running the bar. Both were polite friendly and hard working.

Had a great meal and great service from Becca. Would recommend the garlic mushrooms for starters and be really daring and different and ask for some cocktail gherkins to go with it, unusual I know but mixed with the cheese and mushrooms it was delicious. Also recommend the signature burger and the mango and passionfruit Eton mess. Will be back for another meal in november when we are next here.

Great meal, everyone enjoyed their choices both mains and puddings, quick service and friendly staff. No tartar sauce available but Becca who took our order went out of her way and made some specially for me herself. Great service . Will recommend.

Nice local Pub service good food. We were told that there was only one chef so the food would take at least a half hour, no problem we were in no particular hurry. Just over the half hour the food arrived, very nice it was too! We'll be back.

I wish I could review the food but we never even got to order. We visited on Friday around 5.30 and the restaurant was almost empty but we were told that they were so busy and only had 1 table available and we have to order from bar. To be fair there only looked to be 3 people working the entire place and there were lots of people queuing at the bar for drinks, only 1 person serving. I waited at the bar to order food for 25 minutes before we decided to leave as if we were waiting 25 mins to order, how long would we wait for the food, considering there were only 4 occupied tables. Shame as weve been here before and it's been great.

My friend had a ribeye steak was sterved raw it was mooing on the plate, two other groups of customers complainted about cold and under cooked food too, never othe three tables paid their bills, disgusting serves. Wouldn't recommend any food.

I attended this venue upon recommendation Saturday last week with my wife and two granddaughters 6 and 5 years. We had a very positive experience both ordering the steak and ale pie meals plus 2 meals from the children’s menu. The staff were extremely efficient and friendly. In fact we had such a nice experience we booked a table for 7 at 6pm for Tuesday the 23rd July. Upon arrival this time, with my daughter and son in law plus their young son who came from London to see us for the day we were led to a table. On this occasion the waitress came over and introduced herself before reeling off a long list of items that were not available on the menu. We were told there was no fish, only one pie and numerous other items even including chips were not available. This she blamed this on a busy few days. Although the menus was very limited we decided to stay as my daughter had a 2 hour journey after dinner to get home with her young 2 year old and so we ordered. The children’s food arrived there was no issue and soon after our food arrived. My son in law and I ordered the Burger signature meal at £17.75. Upon starting my meal I immediately noticed that my skin on fries were cold and tasteless not even a good as McDonald’s fries. I cut in to my burger to discover it was burnt, barely warm and extremely dry. It was appallingly poor and inedible. I called our waitress and pointed this out to her, she apologised and offered to supply me another meal or something different. I was so disappointed and to be honest shocked at how poor the meal sent out was I declined the offer. She offered me another pint of Guinness but I refused the offer as I was driving. I asked my son in law what his meal was like and he said it was poor, very dry and similar to mine but he eat his meal. I would add that the incident and extremely poor standard of food sent to me completely ruined the evening. I cannot understand how number one when we had booked a table there was such an extreme lack of choice and if there was a shortage why it was not replenished. Whilst my family were eating another couple came in and sat nearby us they were given the same account as us about the limited menu and within a short time voted with their feet. Finally I would that I was not charged for my meal but I would not recommend this venue and look forward to any observations that the proprietor may care to make.

My whole family went in there on 16/7/24 for my partner’s and nans birthday meal and I had sirloin steak and it was absolutely delicious and our waitress Megan really provided us with fantastic service and we will be definitely be coming back again soon

Only popped in for a drink, but lady behind bar very friendly and welcoming.

Very welcoming pub. Dog friendly. Great staff and Megan went above and beyond to make our visit perfect. Food was delicious, nicest vegan burger I've had in a while. Will definitely visit the next time we're in Little Clacton.

Lovely trio of roast. Very well presented. Absolutely beautiful flavour. With homemade meat juice gravy. Only litte gripe...roasted new potatoes and not crispy ones. Otherwise it was delicious 😋 lovely welcoming staff. A stunning old building with low beams and great decor and comfort.

A group of 4/5 of us wanted to have lunch this afternoon, walked into a very empty restaurant and completely empty garden at about half 12 and asked if we would be able to get a table. We were turned away for food because we hadn't booked, we then thought to book a table for a slightly later time slot as everything after 12.45 was available, but checked first to see if this would be okay. Only to then be told by front of house that she felt unwell and there was only her and a chef so no they didn't want our custom. Kudos for the honesty I guess, and we went onto another place without a fuss. But to lose a whole tables worth of orders because you can't be bothered as you feel unwell? Two stars because she was very pleasant about it at least 🤷‍♀️

Found this pub by accident, lovely pub , oldy worldly nice place for a drink and they also do food but we just had a drink.
