Moon & Starfish in Tendring

We ordered a couple of pints which was very nice. Then we ordered a American cheese burger, no salad, no sauce, and a double American burger with no changes, and the two pints. The burgers came out wrong, which we queried and got the order corrected. However, they still came out wrong. Very very disappointing and to be really honest the meal was nothing special. Food quality overall character as very poor - even though the order was corrected TWICE

Nice atmosphere but doesn't change the fact there was literal animal feces in my food a few weeks ago (1st of march) and now every time I have chips I worry about it, having it in, it wasn't visible but I could taste it, and I had to spit it out, I didn't say anything sooner because I wanted to forget it but it's still staying with me

My wife took me for a breakfast treat we live in Clacton and go here on a regular basis don't normally complain but it wasn't busy and food was terrible my wife's pancakes were cold my freedom breakfast was cold eggs were snotty not cooked the waitress had a very bad attitude when we asked for it to be cooked properly so we asked for a refund very disappointed with visit

It's a Wetherspoon in Clacton. Nothing great, Just a convenient place to pop in for cheap food. The place is very shabby but that's wear and tear due to the volume of people that visit it.

Being this close to the sea side it what rammed full.

Sensibly priced drinks. Not tried the food. Friendly atmosphere. Good place to wait for the less frequent buses.

Great service. Excellent value. Clean environment.

Standard Spoons, but with a sea view. Food and drinks are cheap, cheerful and reliable. Bit slow serving, but not the end of the world. Toilets are on the same level, haha, no stairs, lifts or anything of the like. The toilets are filthy though.

Food was awful. It didn't taste nice at all and small portions! Staff are not the friendliest people. I have visited many wetherspoons this was easily one of the worst. The one thing it has going for it is its location central to the seafront.

This Weatherspoons is the best I've been to, the service is spot on and the food is always hot when brought to the table

I’ve been working in the area for the last 6 months, only come here because the beer is cheap and my hotel is round the corner , staff are young kids, more bothered about chatting behind the bar than serving, toilets are a state, wee all over the floor and obviously not been cleaned for hours, not tested the food to be fair so can’t comment. Would I bring my family to this place to eat if I lived local? Absolutely not. It has a great location but run by muppets. True story

Lovely staff had an issue with food and manager came over think he’s name was Mitchell dealt with it all and food was fantastic he apologised and dealt with it so well compared to times before

We visited 16th Jan 2024, afternoon. Overall the service and food is as expected from the chain, but my main complaint is how cold it was in there. I asked a number of staff if there was a problem with the heating and they said no. They said no-one else has complained. It was a cold snap. When we returned the following day, suprise, suprise temporary hired heaters appeared in a few areas, although not turned on for some reason. So why did the staff member dismiss my previous day enquiry about the heating. Please don't treat customers like this. We jeep your place running and expect truth

Good choice of food and very reasonably priced

Great place to eat and drink. It can get a little loud at times but you can usually find a quieter location in spoons.

I’ve visited this pub twice recently. Great selection of beers and prices are very reasonable. Unfortunately both visits let down by the fact the place is freezing cold! For some reason the outer doors are chained open so there’s no lobby to keep any warmth in and every time someone enters or leaves the temperature drops.

Food is OK and drinks are at a great price. Unfortunately heating isn't working and was very cold inside. Making it uncomfortable for us all

We visit this place regularly. Great beer and good food. Great value for money. Always a good atmosphere like pubs in the old days. Bar service can be a bit slow at times. The one let down is that the whole interior could do with a makeover. It's beginning to look very tired, many seats having bad repairs, carpet looking shabby etc. Maybe the boss will read this and consider a re-vamp on the place.

I came in here years ago and was assaulted by a member of staff. I retried it and it's still not very good. Took ages to get served and the young bar lady was serving locals around me even though id been waiting a lot longer. The behaviour was loud and the doormen that are supposed to be keeping the peace we're busy on the machines and not all doing their job. So it still is the worst Wetherspoons I've visited, and pub overall. I'm sure some of the locals love it but not for me.

Had the misfortune to go in this pub. A complete tip. The staff were so rude and unhelpful it was off the scale. Can only think its the cheap beer why people use it. Its certainly not for the bar service.

Visited this weatherspoons 11/12/23 Had a lovely meal here and I certainly cannot say anything awful about it. Staff appeared friendly and had good manners. I think it's one of the best around here...Well done clacton.

Winter wonderland ! Just been in the Moon and Starfish clacton where I can safely say there is no heating its blowing cold air ac through the heating ducts People literally sitting shivering with coats and hats on .Feel sorry for the poor kids behind the bar on a long shift .Wetherspoons once again excelling .Theres a snowman sitting in the restaurant and hes even got his coat on cant wait for Jan and February when it gets cold .No wonder The manager works from home

Bar staff very friendly, waiter staff very friendly, food as good as any other Wetherspoons in the country, what’s not to like? The answer is nothing, unless you are being particularly picky about, what is a Wetherspoons after all.

I don’t get the negative reviews. Visited on a Friday afternoon. Staff were great. Place was clean and tidy. The food was out very fast. No problems at all. Looking forward to coming back.

Our regular eating place on visits to Clacton. Great food, friendly staff and a cosy atmosphere. Breakfasts are especially good and even if we stay in local hotels we usually breakfast here. Recommended.

Food and drink selection pretty much the same as any spoons. The bar person who served me was a little abrupt. Service generally not great. Ok if you are just interested in cheap drinks and food. But otherwise would avoid it.

Visited several times for drinks and once for food. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was tasty and service was fairly quick. Would definitely feel that this place could be completely overwhelmed with customers in the summer holidays as it is opposite Clacton-on-Sea Pier!

Not only did we wait a hour for our food they forgot one off our drinks and when asked for it she replied go to the bar and get it yourself I am busy so rude I go there for long weekends and to meet up with family and friends I will not be going to the moon and starfish again table we’re not cleaned staff standing around talking will people waiting to be served and tables waiting to be cleaned it was filthy disgusting .

I am fed up of reading this is the worse wetherspoon's in the country. Utter rubbish. I live nearby and are in here all the time for food and drinks. The food is lovely, got, comes out quickly especially the breakfast. Very good prices and food and drink. Staff very helpful and friendly. Never any trouble. love the place. The only thing wetherspoon's could do would be update the decor. Don't get rid of this place, Clacton wouldn't be the same. Can't wait to go back!

Went during Oktoberfest, busy enough in there and prices great considering the location. Didn't try any food but kept seeing people with the hot dogs which did look mouth watering! Did not use other facilities so cannot rate.

Had an enjoyable evening here. Dropped one star on the food as the naan bread with the curry my wife had was as hard as a piece of cardboard. Other than that great service, and good priced real ales.

Very good food and not expensive

We had a light evening meaning here, served very hot and well prepared, friendly staff and nice and clean with a full bar. Went back for breakfast the next morning. Fabulous Eggs Benedict and the fresh orange juice is to die for. Definitely recommend

Clean toilets, good food, friendly and helpful staff. As a tourist I have been very impressed by the cheerful and helpful demeanor of the local people.

Good traditional Pub Grub on a budget.!

We visited in the evening of Thursday 28 September 2023 and ordered some fries followed by three desserts. I had the mini chocolate brownie and ice cream and found a hair weaved in under the ice cream so it was between the brownie and the ice cream when it arrived. I complained to a member of staff who politely agreed to change it. I was sitting minding my own business when a very rude person, a young woman with long dark hair who claimed to be a manager suddenly appeared next to me informing me that nobody working there had hair that colour! I suggested it may have been in the ice cream from the manufacturer and then she insisted on repeating what she had said and was very confrontational and unpleasant in her manner. She made me feel very uncomfortable over what was a justifiable complaint. The repeated item arrived and was ok but I am aghast at the appaling behaviour of this person to customers. It was definitely not my hair is it was inside the dessert and I felt she was trying to indicate that it was. I am surpised that the company doesn't train the staff better with how to deal with customers and certainly won't be going back. A very unpleasant evening out.

Had a lovely lunch time experience food was hot, glad i chose the small portion I would never have managed a normal serving, staff were lovely and helpful. Wouldnt look to go eat anywhere else.

Terrible, nonexistent service. My wife and I walked in, and no one greeted us or offered any assistance. After waiting for 5 minutes, we took it upon ourselves to find a table and sit down. Still, no one approached us. It took a few more minutes for us to realize that we had to place our order through the online app. I would have preferred to order directly from a waiter/waitress. Finally, a waitress came over to the table next to us. I called her over, and she turned around with annoyance. She reluctantly came to me, and I asked about how to place an order. She responded rudely and impolitely, stating that I had to use the app. I started with the app, but it suddenly malfunctioned. No one offered to help me. After another 5 minutes, I decided to leave.

We have breakfast here most Sundays but I think it may be my last one. I ordered a breakfast muffin and when it arrived it was only half a sausage and what looked like the remains of an egg and bacon that has seen better...

By the sea you won't go wrong. Having a drink and some snacks with good friend and music by the window by the breeze of the sea. Very nice very nice 😋.

It's cheap. Good to have a cold beer on a hot day. Food is value for money quantity over quality but the chips are good and the portions generous and the regulars love the place. In summary you get what you pay for.

Nice family meal after a long day for as expected

Knew it was Weatherspoons so not expecting much and it was even worse than that. The staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. And as for the loaded fries really can’t see how chips can be overcooked on the outside and undercooked on the inside.

Absolutely rancid. Went in on a Saturday morning, the tables were filthy and sticky. There was old food stuck to the menus. I couldn’t eat there because it was giving me the ick so much so I had to leave.

After waiting a while for food, we were presented with the unpleasant surprise that our food had been delivered to the wrong table, despite us ordering it to OUR table. We were very confused as to how this could’ve happened as our drinks were brought to the correct table a while before getting our food. Very poor and unprofessional management - not sure if I’ll visit here again

It doesn't deserve not even a star...we have asked until what time they serving food... until 11 pn...we walked in just after 8 pm, waited more than 10 minutes to order to be told if anyone in our group is under 18 they are not serving food for us just drinks!!!!🤬.
