Delightful pub situated on quiet turning off the main road. Greeted by friendly member of staff. Delicious main courses followed yummy desserts. Would highly recommend.
We went for a birthday meal last week and it was great. There were 6 adults and 4 children so our table was chaotic but Sarah was fab at serving us. She engaged with the kids and made it really fun, going out of her way to help us. The food was delicious with very generous portions! We'll definitely go back the next time we're in Holt.
Rude manager & staff. Empty, lifeless bar. Bad value for money. What’s happened to this place? I visit regularly with friends & family, but it’s really gone downhill recently. The food was cold. No decaf coffee etc, etc.
We visited The Black Lion several years ago before it fell on hard times.
We were thrilled to see the place had re-opened and we have now been back 3 or 4 times, but our patience is now spent.
Just to say that the restaurant ambience, food & service were really very good.
This is a 'pub with rooms' that we all want to appreciate. The concept is good and is being well executed by the current owners. But......
The bar experience was/is, horrendous.
This is exclusively as a consequence of the behaviour of a small group of clientele who seem to base themselves at the end of the bar and who appear to be incapable of uttering more than two words without the use of a profanity.
The Black Lion is a hotel and a restaurant pitching itself as a respectable mid market establishment. Its parent is the well regarded Carpenters Arms in Wighton.
It must therefore manage and protect its customer experience in line with its own expectations and indeed, its own reputation.
Nobody has any objection to people having a good time and I am not suggesting that these folks behaved in a threatening or intimidating manner, but there is a line between having a good time and offensive behaviour.
Little Walsingham is not a rock & roll village. Its residents are primarily families, the aged and the religious, its tourism likewise.
Therefore, if we are looking to socialise and relax, in mixed company, having to endure such a torrent of coarse language is unacceptable.and it really is constant. No let up.
The 'F' word is simply normal and loud language. Quite incredibly the 'C' word makes frequent appearances.
Until such time as the owners put an end to such behaviour, frankly it's not worth having to run the gauntlet of discomfort to spend time & money in a place that appears to hold such little respect for its other guests.
And that is a real shame because the Black Lion really should be the village pub that every village wants.
Excellent food really tasty fresh and hot. Excellent menu full of choice. Nice friendly gentleman who always take care of us both of them lovely. We come every holiday to Cromer. We love food and eat out a lot and believe me we can be critical and I have nothing but praise for this place! 5 stars!
It was a very damp and showery morning and we weren’t sure if the restaurant was even open! But we tried the door and it was . The lady on the bar asked the kitchen if they were still serving breakfast (it was only 10.10am) and they were. We sat down and there was a very damp smell in the room. Which was a little off putting but We ordered full English and Vegan breakfast, both with coffee. The coffee were served piping
Hot which was lovely as usually they go cold before breakfast is served. But breakfast came and coffee was still hot!. Breakfast was also really hot and delicious, good local produce and served with a smile. Deffo come back again! Serves lunches and coffee and cake too so worth drying at different times of the day.
Quirky little cafe/shop. Very small inside seating area, also sells stuff through hatch onto pathway. Good tea and coffee, tasty bacon bap, friendly owner.
Booked a weekend break with the caravan and motorhome club that had a bar and restaurant.
Our normal MO is to eat out on the Friday and cook for ourselves the rest of the break, but the food was so good, we ate both nights of the trip and had breakfast to boot.
Staff were fantastic and friendly, and our two greyhounds spread out in the bar area.
Would recommend if you are in the area to pop in.
Have popped in occasionally and had the most delicious pie and gravy. Was in the area Saturday and thought a lovely pie and gravy will go down a treat on such a cold day.
Saturday luch time, no pies on the menu, just a very basic baguette, omlette, baked potato menu, really disappointed. Should have guessed, very sparse of dinners. Ordered the egg baguette, to be told a minute later 'we can't get hold of any eggs'. So all the omlettes were unavailable too. I've just been to a farmers market down the road that's full of eggs and pies! Cheese baguette ok, very cheap colesaw on side( sorry being really picky now).
It has changed hands and don't believe the menu online, we won't be going back.
Site was ok for a pitch up site. Very noisy near and close to the road, ok for one night I suppose if your stuck. The Green Man pub very basic and not like the pictures are showing on Trip Advisor. Not the most scenic site in Norfolk. Will not return .
We are quite regular visitors to the goat. We have lunch with some friends every six weeks or so. Can't recommend the place highly enough. Ambience, food, staff all excellent. Its what a country club should be. Special thanks to lovely Chantelle for always making us feel so welcome . She's a star.
This is one of the few proper drinking pubs left and its brilliant because people actually talk, have fun and drink. You know what we all stopped doing years ago! Love it. Come down to town, enjoy the music in the pub and have a good time.
