Booked 2 double rooms for an over night stay, bed breakfast and evening meal. Extremely disappointed!! The room was disgusting, standard very low. The food was over cooked and poor quality the Yorkshire puddings were black as we're the sausages at breakfast. Cereals not well stocked. This was booked a couple of months ago as we were visiting the Thursford spectacular show, completely ruined our trip. Avoid at all cost.

We stayed in the family room which was spacious, comfortable and clean. The bathroom had a bath plus shower. The bath was a really good size and the shower was really good too, plenty of hot water. The owner was very accommodating and nothing was too much. Even fitted us on for dinner when they were fully booked. Definitely recommend a stay at this place especially if your going to Thursford show!

The blue boar has always been one of our favourite restaurants. We booked for Saturday 15th, not knowing it was under new ownership, and unfortunately our experience was very disappointing. Have since emailed the owner about numerous issues that we encountered on the evening, in particular the poor quality of the food which was over priced and overcooked.

Stopped off for a nice cold drink and bite to eat, as had seen it had been reopened under new management. After much deliberation over a very impressive menu, we decided to go with the locally (Blackney) sourced mixed Seafood platter. The platter arrived and was a very generous size, and a good variety. Had a quick chat with the new owners who were really welcoming, as were the other members of staff there. We will definitely be going back soon.

Staying next door we booked the restaurant for dinner. Very popular place, lovely location and good menu. There were specials in addition to the published menu. Everything is local and freshly made. Good and varied drinks selection, we had gin from the extensive list with every Fever Tree tonic flavour too. We had quite a wait for the meal having chosen fillet of beef strogonoff and a steak meal. It was very good and we couldn't resist the dessert menu, choosing the bread and butter marmalade pudding. We ate outside which has been erected due to covid, it was a mild night but could benefit from heaters and more lighting. The owners run this as a B&B and interacts mainly with their guests we felt.

LOCATION: Set in a rural, peaceful location with local walks on the doorstep and within 30 mins from Fakenham, Wells-next-the Sea. INN: 17th century, well maintained, nicely decorated with lots of original features and cosy charm. ROOM: stylish, so clean, comfortable bed (slept like a log), spotlessly clean shower room, with good shower and thick white fluffy towels. Plenty tea, coffee, biscuits, bottled water and a good sized tv. STAFF: friendly, helpful, happy and extremely attentive. They work so hard to make sure you are having a good stay and/or a good meal. FOOD: absolutely delicious and big portions, so be prepared! Overall, I would most definitely stay here again and recommend this little gem to friends and family. I honestly could not find fault in anything regarding this Inn, it was a perfect weekend.

A gorgeous old pub with a wonderful atmosphere. The lovely landlady (meant to ask her name!) could not have been nicer of more friendly. This had been booked for Mothering Sunday and had a lovely fixed menu with plenty of choice. The food was delicious, beautifully served by the young waiters and the quality of ingredients and care of cooking was obvious. The only downside was that the portions were so generous that we had no room for the wonderful looking deserts. The hostess and staff were all lovely and we will definitely be back to sample some of the fantastic looking menu. We wish we lived closer!! Thank you for a lovely lunch.

We were staying at The Melody B&B; next door for the weekend in August. With not too many places to go, we opted to eat at The Blue Boar Inn on the Friday evening. We did not book, arrived, ordered drinks and said we were hoping to eat. This was fine. It soon became apparent that one lady was running the bar, showing you to the table for meals and taking orders. Fortunately it was not busy (which for a Friday night in August should have said it all).

Dinner here was a pleasant surprise. Walking to to this traditional looking hotel and pub we noticed how neat and tidy the garden looked and once inside it was obvious that the owners of this establishment have high standards. The traditional style decor is tasteful and comfortable and clean. We dined with friends and all four of us enjoyed our mains and desserts enormously. The chalk board menu displayed a inventive choice of dishes, definitely a cut above normal Norfolk pub offerings. Service was friendly and efficient and exceeded our expectations in terms of ambience and quality of food. Don't hesitate to visit this lovely restaurant if you're in the region. We shall definitely eat here again on our next visit to Norfolk.

Laura and James couldn't do enough for us after our traumatic experience of being bumped in the car en route to the Thursford Spectacular Christmas show. Laura spent a lot of time phoning on our behalf arranging our pick up in the morning since we had no wheels and making sure we were all right. Both she and her husband, James, were genuinely concerned which gave us the confidence we would be OK and get home the next day.Aside from that we loved the Blue Boar with its beams and real feeling of being back in the 17th century! One could imagine the pub through the ages as it still has wonderful character and so many interesting features of yesteryear. It's hard to find pubs like this with so much charm. Our room was well laid out and everything spotlessly clean. They have made the best use of the small rooms. There were lots of little nice touches around like biscuits in a jar and plenty of tea and coffee plus attractive flowers. The Christmas decorations around the public rooms were lovely. Laura and James have good taste and make everyone welcome, We enjoyed a hearty breakfast, all personally served by Laura and can thoroughly recommend this pub and hope to go again one day.

We were staying next door to The Melody BnB so were glad of the short walk given the rainy weather. I'd phoned the restaurant the night before to double-check there would be vegetarian options. The proprietor was very helpful and remembered our conversation when we arrived. She was really very pleasant and welcoming, as were all the staff. We both loved the decor and ambience of the restaurant. The specials form the board , (especially for me, the vegetarian!) were patiently explained. My partner had whitebait as a starter and rib-eye steak as a main. I chose a creamy mushroom on toast for starters and the halloumi cheese with salad as the main course. (This was basically fine but I probably would've preferred the halloumi to have just been fried rather than in batter as it did feel a bit like a heart attack dish!!)My partner had the impressive cheese board and I had a scoop of raspberry sorbet and damson ice-cream for dessert - both excellent. The proprietor came over for a pleasant chat at the end of the meal which rounded our evening off nicely. What a difference it makes when the staff actually welcome you and show a bit of interest! (Melody BnB take note!!) Overall we had a really great evening and would recommend The Blue Boar.

I had booked a table for 10 of us for a family member's birthday. The restaurant was fairly busy when we arrived. The staff were incredibly attentive. The menu was extensive, definitely something for everyone..and some! They don't have a children's menu as such, but was told that children could have anything off the menu in a smaller portion or they could make the normal fish fingers, nuggets etc...As well as the vast menu, there were also the specials, again, very varied. Even though there were 10 different meals ordered, it didn't take long at all to be served. The plates of food looked amazing, especially the seafood platter. I had mushrooms baked in Binham Blue Cheese with new potatoes and salad and it was delicious. Plenty on the plate too.My 5 year old daughter had opted for fish fingers, new potatoes and veg, I'm sure they were the best homemade fish fingers she'd ever had! We, a party of four, ate twice at The Blue Boar while staying for a week in Norfolk. On the first visit we ate in the bar area. It was almost full with a mixture of regulars enjoying a drink, to visitors and residents (it has some rooms) eating. There was a good, friendly, relaxed atmosphere and we were made welcome. On our second visit we ate in the restaurant as the bar area was full - not as much atmosphere as the bar area but pleasant. The service was friendly. There was a reasonably extensive menu with some 'standard' items (soup, prawn cocktail, scampi, steak, etc) and a good selection of 'specials' (baked cod, crab and prawn thermidor, etc). The food was good quality and the portions were generous.A good selection of beers and wines (including a good 'Blue Boar' bitter).I have found this a very difficult review to mark because the food, drink, and ambience was good. However there were a number of issues that detracted from the experience. Firstly, we had considerable difficulty booking (probably not helped by the pub being closed during lunchtime - except Sunday and all day Tuesday). Also, on both of our visits was the bill incorrect. Neither did we get what we ordered - our second visit a prawn stir-fry was delivered instead of a vegetable stir-fry, a pint of beer instead of a half, and an incorrect sauce with cod.We might just have been unlucky - we don't normally mind things going wrong (it's about how they are put right!) - however there were just a few too many 'mistakes' to justify another star!

I ate in this "gastro" pub whilst I was staying in the B&B next door from January to July in 2014. The food is wonderful and worth paying that bit more for it. I particularly recommend the fillet steak, this was my treat on the last night of the week and it never disappointed. The Blue Boar is run by Laura with her partner James in the kitchen but they also have regular staff behind the bar, waiting on or working in the kitchen and they were all lovely and friendly. I would recommend you ring and book a table in the summer months because I am told it gets very busy, not so much during the winter / spring although there were some nights when a group were all eating then when space was a bit tighter. They have tables in the bar - where I preferred to eat - or in the separate restaurant.I would strongly recommend this for a lovely meal out for business people, couples of larger groups.Thank you Laura, James and the team.

We have just moved into the local area and were exploring places local to us to eat and thought we'd give the Blue Boar Inn a try.OMG this place is a little gem.The staff were so friendly and welcoming and like others have already said nothing is too much trouble if you want to 'tweak' what's on offerThe steak was absolutely delicious and I can truly say it was the best I'd ever had. My husband is particular about meat and his plate was clean at the end of the meal which says it all.I can't wait to go back and am in fact hoping to get there at the weekend with some relatives that are coming to stay and I just know it's going to be just as good as the first time.:-)

All food is fresh and local. The landlords are excellent and the pub has a great atmosphere. In addition to that the menu is extensive and there is something for everyone.

As we were staying in the B and B next door, the Blue Boar was the obvious place to go to each evening. We were made very welcome on each occasion and enjoyed the drinks on offer as well as chatting with Laura and James. As our third visit was also our wedding anniversary, we decided to eat there and we weren't disappointed - excellent steaks cooked to perfection. James is indeed an excellent chef, and Laura a natural as front of house. Our only very slight niggle would be with the coffee. A freshly brewed cafetiere on the table would be so much nicer than a cup of rather stewed filter coffee. Having said that though, we would have no hesitation in recommending the Blue Boar as a very good place to go for a meal, or just a drink.

Stayed at the BNB recently for a wedding in the area. I thought the price was quite high for what we got really. It was ok, not bad, just not amazing and for the money I expected more. I would say the breakie was lovely so Id assume dinner would be great here.

We are staying in a hotel near the blue boar and decided to eat their one night based on other trip advisor reviews. The staff were great and made us very welcome. The pub was clean. The food was excellent (large portions so go when hungry!) my daughter couldn't find anything on the menu she liked but they were happy to cook her a chicken breast. Plenty of veg and potatoes are served with the meal for you to help yourself too. Was so full that I only managed an ice cream but that was delicious. There were plenty of homemade puddings to choose from.If we lived closer we would definitely go back

We were staying in a nearby cottage and were recommended the Blue Boar by the owners. The landlady had a healthy sense of humour and made you feel as if you had known her for years and instead of first time visitors, you were regulars. The menu is extensive and I did say that my only complaint was that I was spoilt for choice! Bring your appetite as portions are not only very tasty but are also large. The asparagus, salmon, poached egg on a muffin with béchamel sauce starter was absolutely wonderful. Tip: they sell their own marmalade and its very tasty and reasonably priced.

We were stopping in Fakenham and looking for a country pub with good food. The reviews for the Blue Boar were excellent and after our visit we found they were all correct. We couldn't fault the food, the atmosphere, or the service. A beautiful old village pub with fabulous staff and an incredible chef. The menu was vast, the restaurant full, yet every dish that came out of the kitchen looked amazing served by friendly attentive staff. A definite one to return to.

Went here with my boyfriend and granddad for a Saturday dinner. We hadn't been before, and I was pleasantly surprised. The staff are really friendly and welcoming (even lighting the fire when a few of us said we were cold), and the menu is full of very tempting locally sourced food. We had asparagus with poached egg and battered brie for starters (separate dishes!)...only minor criticism is the brie was under-done (cold and solid in the middle, I like it hot and runny if it's deep fried) and the asparagus was placed on bread which then became a bit of a soggy mush. Despite that, it was yummy. Service was super quick too. We had steak for main, both were overdone (we asked for the rare side of medium-rare, these were very definitely medium), but tasty and nicely presented. My Granddad had the vegetable stir fry, which he hoovered up...only criticism is the cost of it, really quite expensive for what it was when you compared it to other (meaty) dishes on the menu. So...overall, a few foodie niggles, but the welcome and attentiveness of the staff made up for it.

An 18th century pub with separate restaurant area. Well cooked food with all meat locally produced. Friendly staff and several real ales on tap. Wide menu at average prices. Only downside is pub not open Mon-Tues-Wed lunchtimes. Open fire in winter.

Very varied menu but the chef still did lots of specials my husband had a sirloin steak with tiger prawns the steak was cooked to perfection. I am a vegertarin and normally in lots of places its a pain but here they were brilliant and the chef did me stirfry veg in a sweet chilli sauce with rice. Me and my husband both had desserts which were really good the portion sizes on both were very generous.

Loved the atmosphere and quirky layout of the place. The food was so good that I had to sample more desserts than a dietician would agree with!! Breakfast is super, one of the best I have ever had. Mine hosts are lovely folk - Laura goes out of her way to make you feel welcome. The room was snug and comfortable, with a bottle of water as well as tea/coffee provided. Good range of wines and beers at the bar. A great weekend. Would go straight back in a minute.

Came for dinner with a friend, welcomed by friendly staff. I'm a coeliac and very helpful with information. My friend and myself had a jacket potato, very well filled and substantial salad. My friend had peach and berry crumble, delicious! There was also a gluten free crumble alternative.Really good to be offered instead of the usual chocolate brownie!!! Will definitely be going back.

When we visited with some friends today, I was very impressed about how accommodating the staff were as I have a dairy intolerance. The only reason why I haven’t given it a 5 is because unfortunately there wasn’t anything on the dessert menu I was able to have although having said that they were able to provide sorbet as an option for me

I had lunch with my elderly parents today. My father enjoyed his sausage but my fish pie filling wasn’t nice and some of the fish didn’t taste fresh, the mash topping was nice but the filling was a poor attempt at what can be a lovely tasty dish. My mum had the beer battered fish and chips. The beer batter was overpowering to the fish and tasted like the oil was old. I tried some of my mums and agreed with her. It’s two years since I have eaten here and it was a disappointment.
