Sculthorpe Mill in North Norfolk

We called the Scunthorpe Mill for a last minute booking which they were able to help us with, managing an upgrade to the restaurant due to a cancellation. Dogs are allowed in the restaurant which is fantastic. The food was a great variety and excellently cooked. It was such a delight to find a pub/restaurant that doesn’t sell the bog standard food of so many other pubs. Beautiful setting next to the river, great decor and very welcoming. A must visit for any meal of the day.

Wonderful hotel in a wonderful location.

Lovely, spacious room with beautiful double-sided views of the river and fields. Peaceful, hidden location. However, the room was quite standard for the high price, with minimal toiletries provided. We had to book two nights just to stay one due to limited availability. Breakfast was delicious. Nice stay overall, but not great value for money.

Great service, great food. A bit pricey though.

We went for Sunday lunch. 3 friends and a dog. The food was delicious and perfect sized portions. We were not over-faced with food. Not a typical Sunday lunch menu. We ate in the garden next to the mill race. It was idyllic.

Great riverside setting with garden.. to cut to the chase it it can be comfortably busy on a Monday afternoon they're doing something right!

We splashed out on the côte de boeuf at £45 a head and it was worth every penny. Amazing food. It felt really special. Highly recommended

We're so lucky to be 20 mins from the Sculthorpe Mill! We've had so many great meals here over the years.

What a lovely pub, a friend recommended it to me, drinks in the gardem by the river, with some really nice local beers. we didn’t eat in restaurant, just snacks from the bar menu, which were really delicious. definitely be back

We have visited the sculthorpe mill on a few occasions, though after the last experience will not be back. The bar person was rude and abrupt in both his tone and manner when we asked if a table was available for food. He served our drinks and told us to go and sit on a red seat and someone would bring a menu over. 30 mins later we were still waiting for a menu and could hear the shocking way other customers were being spoken to in the bar area. I felt extremely uncomfortable so left.

This turned out to be an amazing stay. Food - Breakfast was delicious, evening meal had a lovely atmosphere and the food was almost perfect (my partner’s steak was just slightly tough but didn’t detract from the enjoyment of the evening). Service - Couldn’t fault the service during our stay. Room - Beautiful little room, especially the bathroom, and a stunning view. The only bit of feedback I’d give is it could do with better lighting, especially above the mirror as it did feel quite dark on the dull day we stayed. There were some lovely touches like the speaker and Nespresso machine. Location - Absolutely no faults. It was like staying in a little slice of heaven. Overall, we were very pleased, would recommend to our friends and would stay again.

Back at its best . Great welcome and offered seats inside or outside by the river . As a sunny day by the river was perfect . Good service , lovely watermelon cocktails before super tasty chicken pie . Love a sharing pie for two and came with new potatoes and purple sprouting broccoli on the side not an expensive extra)

We have both stayed and eaten at Scunthorpe Mill on several occasions. It’s a lovely setting and previously our experience has been first class.. But what has happened?? The service wasn’t great ( admittedly they were busy) the chairs had several food stains on them and the tables looked like they had just been purchased from the thrift store. The food ( usually excellent) was average, My steak was supposed to be accompanied by a salad but what was served was a lettuce leaf which had been covered in what looked like bottled garlic dressing and very disappointing.. I noticed that the owners did not appear to be there so perhaps that was the reason for the slip in standards but having recommended Scunthorpe Mill to several members of our party who had not been there before I was left slightly embarrassed by my enthusiasm in the days before our visit.

What a lovely little gem 💎 Not been here before , but we will definitely be back next time we go to Norfolk. The surroundings are beautiful and tranquil. The service was good and the food delicious 😋 We just visited for lunch but the place looked very nice if you need somewhere to stay .

We hadn’t been to the Mill for many years - so glad we went back. Food was stunning! Service was exceptional- the minute detail of being able to clear a table properly and placing a wine glass down holding the stem - absolute basics which they get right. Food great, service great, location great - we will be back

Relaxing lunch in the sun by the river, the setting is beautiful! Friendly efficient staff and the food top notch. Everything so fresh, vibrant and perfectly cooked, also big thumbs up for the refreshing cocktails. Not overpriced considering how good everything was and glad to see that service charge hadn't been automatically charged. Wonderful lunch, thank you!

Absolutely wonderful experience. Very busy Mother’s Day but our visit was memorable. From the moment we arrived we enjoyed every minute. A warm welcome, staff working very hard but still attentive and pleasant. The food was fabulous, we particularly enjoyed the sharing Lamb and Chicken. A delightful wine menu. Our new favourite location. Cannot wait to visit again. An idyllic location.

Mother’s Day experience was poor. Staff not reading tables. Starter (Duck Pate) not edible and returned yet billed and not questioned why.However, Crab salad was very good. Over one hour from returning starters to receiving mains. Drinks had to be asked for and never offered by waitress staff. Mains (Chicken and Lamb) was nice. However, £72 pounds for Lamb plus sides was ridiculous. Poor experience. Won’t rush back.

Service was a bit slow on the day. But food was very good and the ambiance on a sunny day was perfect. Celebrating a birthday.

Our wedding anniversary and we chose this lovely restaurant because it had a great menu. We were very pleased with everything that we were served with and our host and waiting staff really excelled at their service. We will definitely be making a trip here again and bringing friends along too. The steak was perfect, the duck was delicious, I could have happily had more of the tastiest chips ever and…..we shared a chocolate mousse dessert which was quite honestly out of this world! Who knew that olive oil and some grains of salt could enhance the flavour so much? Praise for the chefs who must have been working so hard to make the experience for us and the other diners so good. Thank you for making this special day even better for us both. We highly recommend giving this amazing restaurant a visit.

Randomly called here for a drink and was super impressed. Lovely building and beautiful outdoor areas next to river. Didn't eat but apparently food is top notch. Will be back

Simple sumptuous food of the highest standard, served by caring staff, all set in a stunning location. Can't recommend highly enough. Funny Don't miss out of this wonderful treat. 😋🍷🌞

We waited about 5 mins at the bar, before we were shown to our table, but we were in the wrong place (we should have gone to the entrance to restaurant- but it wasn’t clear where you had to go. The food was lovely - unusually tasting starter with delicious flavour pairings. Our duck was superb but needed an additional accompaniment, as it was a bit overwhelmed by the red cabbage (a strong flavour). Desserts were gorgeous, and service friendly and efficient.

My wife and I visited the restaurant on a Saturday evening and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Service was attentive without being over the top, staff were all polite and knowledgeable, food was amazingly good and local beer superb.

We had lunch here today. We were very disappointed with the lack of choice on the menu. What we did have was OK but not great. I had steak, it was quite chewy and was literally steak and chips, I didn't realise it came with no veg and the waitress didn't tell us if we wanted veg we had to order it separately. My husband had the burger which he said was OK but a small portion. We heard it was good food but it was just basic pub grub.

Quality food, and it's placed right on the river. We went during the winter but I'd bet it would be idyllic in the summer sat outside with a pint.

We had a small, intimate wedding at nearby Godwick Hall and wanted somewhere for our wedding dinner. Sculthorpe was perfect. The fizz and cocktails before dinner followed by the lovely food by the roaring fire made it an evening to remember. The staff made us feel special and other guests passed on their best wishes which all added to our special day. We’d highly recommend Sculthorpe if you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion. You won’t be disappointed.

Lovely cosy refurbished pub near Fakenham. Artifacts of its mill history are still in evidence with the fast running millstream flowing underneath. Good local brewery beers & lagers Oaks & Pintail, B.O.B. were all sampled and very much enjoyed! Staff were great, a real credit to the place and a refreshing difference to the indifference you find at many places! We only had drinks on this visit but hopefully will be back for food another time.

Really wonderful friendly service, reasonable prices and delicious food. Best béarnaise sauce I’ve had with a steak. Beautifully decorated for Christmas! Very gluten free friendly with GF beers on tap and plenty of clearly marked options on menu.

We stumbled on this place towards the end of summer and found it to be a fantastic location in a very tranquil setting. We just stopped for a drink but could see preparation under way for a garden BBQ and saw the brochure for accommodation. Based on this initial visit we will return and hope to try out the dining experience.

Very attractive property and gardens. Staff attentive and friendly. Inside clean and comfortable. Menu choices are slightly odd combinations and needs less flowery descriptions. Coffee machine doesn't produce coffees of a good enough standard for the price demanded.

Had a lovely meal at the Sculthorpe Mill based. Found it through the Michelin guide and wasn’t disappointed. The food was great value for money. I had the Barnsley chop with salsa verde which I highly recommend. My friends enjoying the chicken pot pie to share. They served a great Guinness too! Only let down by the ambiance, where we were sat was too close to the very rowdy bar. Service was good and attentive but not very friendly.

When we visited with some friends today, I was very impressed about how accommodating the staff were as I have a dairy intolerance. The only reason why I haven’t given it a 5 is because unfortunately there wasn’t anything on the dessert menu I was able to have although having said that they were able to provide sorbet as an option for me

The Sculthorpe Mill is an absolute gem of a find. From the welcome to the check out, service is 100% - there's a genuine warmth from the staff towards guests. Food is amazing - we ate dinner and breakfast - having both a varied menu that changes regularly depending on the season. Good to see local seasonal produce being used wherever possible. Rooms are v. comfy and a perfect retreat after a fab. dinner.

Outstanding location on the river Wensum, however on this visit the food was very poor three of us had the rump steak, all three steaks were very tough and hard to chew although the flavour was reasonable and cooked as ordered. The chips looked good but unfortunately very dry as if they had spent to long under heat lamps or similar. One of our party had the fish dish which she enjoyed we all looked on her enviously. Our to grandchildren well catered for and the staff very friendly and enthusiastic but not efficient probably students on vacation jobs. I regret not complaining about the steaks. This was in no way up to Michelin Listed standard.

This is a lovely location - the building is beautiful and the owners have created a welcoming and cosy environment. I have eaten here several times in the past and have always had a great dining experience. The food is great with a good choice and fresh ingredients wonderfully prepared and plenty of vegetarian options . My only issue on my most recent visit was the service . it should be said, the waiting staff were lovely; friendly and courteous but everything was extremely slow . Despite not appearing to be understaffed we waited an age for our food and in my case my drink ( a non-alcoholic draught beer) took 20 minutes to arrive and in the end I had to cancel the second one I ordered because again I had waited a similar amount of time, . Whilst it is nice not to feel like you are not being hurried, almost two hours to complete the service of a meal is excessive. There is a lot to like here, and I will return, but for all its positives there has to be some serious improvement to the service and waiting times for this to be the fantastic culinary experience is could and should be.

Beautiful location and would be stunning in the sunshine but alas tipping down tonight. A sound menu with lots of choice awaits. The pea soup was deemed to be excellent as were my oysters however the flesh had been damaged a little when opening. The ham hock was definitely on the crispier side of crispy. My silver bream was cooked well but would have benefited with a little more love. It came to the table quite dry looking , devoid of salt and no crisp skin. The lemon posset was nice and tart. Service was charming if a little hap hazard. Our wine, then bread and then starters were all given first to another table. We drank an excellent red from Georgia which I wholeheartedly recommend. A nice evening all in all.

A chic/cool pub restaurant with rooms. Attention to detail was first rate as was the food. Staff really friendly and efficient. The setting is perfect. Have already recommended you to friends!

We visited here on a rainy Saturday evening for diner. The restaurant is set in a beautiful location, with a lovely garden overlooking the river. Inside is very cosy with different areas to eat, all dog friendly. We were sat upstairs at a table overlooking the garden which was a lovely touch, as I had requested an outside table if the weather had been nice. Despite being very busy, the service was excellent. We all ordered different starters and main courses and they were all outstanding. Well cooked and presented. We will definitely return in the future.

Had a recent evening meal with friends. The four of us had an amazing experience. Food, service, atmosphere, and the location itself were all absolutely perfect!

Stop on the way home from Lincolnshire. Great setting and lovely place. The house cured sea trout, seaweed toast an pickled white radish was divine. My wife had the crispy lamb belly with will garlic and pea hummus. Also fabulous. I recommend this place whole heartedly.

Only came for a drink. Was served by a young man who was courteous and advised of seating arrangements either inside or out. Beautiful rear garden, ample seating, well maintained. Looked at the menu out of curiosity, didn't seem overly expensive.

Outdoor dining was within tranquil, picturesque gardens next to a stream which is what really makes this place. Good food, and service. Very accommodating to our toddler.

Decided to go here for dinner with a friend and my other half.. Truly deserving of the Michelin Bib Gourmand! Amazing tasting food and reasonably priced! Great value for money! Came here a second time and was better than the first!!! One of the best restaurants in norfolk!!

I go in for lunch, generally on a Monday/Tuesday, as few good pubs are open those days at this time of year. Lovely setting, friendly staff, huge chunk of sausage roll ideal to soak up a couple of pints. Even my era music! Donovan?! Get over there....

Lovely old mill down a virtually dead end road. They served 2 good local beers Barsham Oaks and Moongazer Pintail. Prefer the former Visited many times but never eaten there, so really looking forward to dining. We were shown to the upstairs dining area. Excellent for an intimate meal. The biggest disappointment was the menu choices. Lacking variety and inspiration. From memory there was a cod option, 2 steaks and 2 burgers. One a vegetarian portobello mushroom and white bean. 2 of us had the latter, which turned out to be a minced mushroom and bean version. Had gherkin and mayo plus a basket if French fries. It wasn't attractive on the plate and was dry. I left half. Friend chose a winter salad starter sized up as a main. Underwhelmed! Sorry to say the meal was uninspiring. Service was a little slow but the serving staff were friendly and helpful.

We sat on the terrace in the Mill's very pretty garden and enjoyed a wonderful meal. The food was delicious and nicely presented and the staff were friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. The best meal of our stay in Norfolk and highly recommended!
