Kings Head in North Norfolk

Beautiful setting with a lovely beer garden area but unfortunately the food was not to standard. Quite small portions and the roast dinner was quite undercooked with very fatty beef, not fresh at all. The prices are very high but not reflected in the food or service. Glasses were dirty, cutlery was dirty and the ice cream sundae glass was so bad we actually thought it was frosted glass 🤮. So disappointed

For £180 I would stay well clear as double room and service only worth maximum £100. Went to breakfast and no staff around to serve and got seated at dirty table when the rest of tables were empty, made no sense. Anyway it was poor value for money, a few tweaks could make it a lot better

Visited this pub with my fiancé and father for a nice drink in the sun . The beer garden was well kept and this Was a lovely location to sit and have a drink whilst watching the boats go by…. However, very poor service at the bar I’m quite astonished to be paying almost £7 A PINT….. at prices like that it’s a miracle that any of the local populous can afford to go out at all…. I’m very surprised at the price of drinks, especially with this being part of a pub, chain and green king, supposedly looking after the end consumer……. To cut a long story short the drinks are round about the same price as those at a top city centre restaurant or night, venue …not a family orientated pub restaurant….. not what I expected at all from a green king…. And judging by the comments and statements on local Facebook groups it wasn’t what anyone else was expecting either! A very lovely setting, but be warned, you must have very deep pockets to have more than a couple of drinks here …. A shame as I have a property in the area..

Popped in here for lunch while in Wroxham. Food took about twenty minutes and looked delicious when it was delivered by a very cheerful waiter. There were two of us and we had the pulled pork and chicken pie and the gammon steak with pineapple. The pie was full of meat and, I am told, absolutely delicious. My gammon steak was one of the best and most tender ones I have ever had and the pineapple ring was seared on one side, a nice touch. Both meals were delicious and very good value for money. We were asked more than once if our meal was satisfactory and if everything was to our liking. The plates were cleared away very efficiently when we had finished. We will call again when next in the area.

On our first visit the food took nearly 2 hours and was passable at best but we decided to give the place another chance as the outside area is big and close to the water. However, our second visit was diabolical. Upon arrival, a board said food would be 30 mins and there were specials on the board. We ordered some drinks and sat down. They rinsed a dirty wine glass with cold water and poured wine in with water still in the glass. I watched in bemusement. When we started ordering food, they said they had none of the specials - so we re-read the menu and chose something else. Two of those items were also not on the menu. Finally after changing the order a 3rd time… they didn’t have that either. When we eventually found food they did have, they told us it would be a 90 minute wait. We walked out. Nice pub in nice location, awful management and customer service.

food took a really long time to come and wasnt that busy. when it came it was average and small. zero customer service. We ordered the kids meal deal 4.99 for my daughter for dinner drink and dessert which we clearly pointed to on the kids menu but because we didnt say what dessert she wanted up front as literally every place we to say we can tell them the dessert after the main comes, they put just a drink and main through for the same price which we didnt know until after. I explained and would have paid the extra for the dessert but they were really really rude about it and were a bunch of young silly teenagers who havent got a clue in customer service, very argumentative and just clueless in anything- they need to be trained better and need life experience! why not say up front about the kids meal deal, and why argue about a kids dessert! my child was in tears because of silly rude teens. also a massive rat was lurking near lurking near our table- when i told them they just starred at me in silence. lol. there are nicer places on the broads- what a shame this isnt better as the location is great. will not return.

The food was alright BUT the Service or lack of it was appalling. We were there as a table of ten who pre-booked our meals. We were there for a 50th wedding anniversary. The bar staff would not bring our drinks to the table and the waitresses need to know how to smile. When I asked if we could order desserts I was told, by a waitress who didn't even look in my direction, that it was NOT waitress service. Really spoiled our night and none of us would go back there. If you want to know what BAD SERVICE is then you could pay them a visit but I wouldn't.

Although we're local it's been a while since we've visited the Kings Head, very unlikely we'll be back. They've obviously spent a lot of money on the place, and the setting is lovely, but unfortunately very few people were choosing to sit on the benches near the river as a family had decided to turn the area into a football pitch and bmx/scooter race track. The staff obviously couldn't care less that the whole place was overrun by out of control children. Why would anyone want to spend their money here when there are better places in the area where you're much less likely to get hit in the head with a football?

Never again 1.5 hours to wait for food - small table. No communication to advise such a long wait and staff full of attitude when asked.

After trying to book online and failing and after several times to call , the phone was answered . Friendly staff . When we arrived there was plenty of spaces . We were sat in the restaurant which was dark grey and gloomy , and desperate for some tlc. Was like eating in a workhouse . However all the staff went above and beyond and the food was ok

Arranged to meet friends for steak night Thursday, had emailed ahead to check steak night was on as it was a week before Christmas- they confirmed it was & we booked for 5 people. Arrived and could sit anywhere we liked, not at all busy, a little worrying! Asked for the steak menu but we were told that although it was steak night they had absolutely no steaks at all. Also no pies and limited fish items. We ordered 2 starters both of which were unavailable, then chose an alternative main meal which was also "sold out"! At that point we paid for drinks and went elsewhere for a meal. Felt sorry for the staff but what on earth was going on?! Restaurant open, definitely steak night but virtually no food available!

Bang average pub grub. Disappointed with nuked mac & cheese, warm rocket on the side & a chunk of oily focaccia. Partner had hunters chicken, again nuked to oblivion - the sauce was molten lava, the chicken tough as anything. What has happened? This used to be a good choice in Wroxham but now needs a good tidy up, the tables are wonky & worn & it was really cold inside. We wont rush back

Welcoming pub, good food, better than expected for a chain. Staff incredibly helpful and friendly. Dog was welcomed indoors, even doggie treats available to purchase. We were only on holiday for a weekend but came here twice, and will be back next year. Thank you.

Fabulous location right on the broads and the food was 5 star. Highly recommend a lamb Sunday roast which was all cooked to perfection.

Not often I leave reviews but was rea impressed with everything here tonight. Very busy but lady behind bar and also the manager were courteous and nothing was too much trouble fir them. Food was lovely and very good value.. expected to wait quite a while but was pleasantly surprised at how quickly it arrived. Everything nuked! Puts Oppenheimer into insignificance! Should come with a warning to bring ur own oven gloves. Sauce came in a nuked side pot and has a skin on Burger bun hot too!!?? Needed a quick food fix and gave it a chance! Oops

From all we'd read, this pub should be an ideal spot to eat dinner on a summer evening by the river. When we went there, it certainly looked ideal which is why we stopped and went to the bar to order food. For some bizarre reason, when the pub was far from busy, we were told there would be an hour's wait for food. This was at 8pm and they stopped serving food at 9pm so we weren't sure how that was going to work. An hour? When there was hardly anyone there? I guess that's why it was quiet... and also why people were sitting in their riverside beer garden eating fish & chips from the chippy across the road. Which is where we went instead.

Called in for evening meal and a drink. Food was excellent as was the beer. No wonder the Chicken and Pulled Ham Pie won a National Pie Award! All staff were friendly and attentive. Special mention for Julie who went above and beyond. Will definitely return.

Monday lunch time, not busy but a 45 minute wait for food so we opted for a drink and sit in the large beer garden by the river, a lovely location on a beautiful day. Whilst queuing for drinks the interior was a bit shabby and had cringey inspirational quotes written on the walls. The barmaid had an awful attitude, rude abrupt and no interest to the point she seemed bored and ill- mannered. I found the prices expensive and the beer substandard. A lovely location in need of better recruitment. No return trade from us.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! THE STAFF HERE ARE DISCRIMINATORY BIGOTS! Myself and my adult son who has severe learning disabilities visited here for a drink. I ordered my drink then asked for an alcohol free lager for my 22 year old, 6ft 3, 15stone son. All the while the barmaid was serving my drink she was looking at my son as though he were an alien! She then proceeded to ask for his ID ( no doubt totally aware he would not have a driving license due to the severity of his disability) non of his other forms of ID which I carry with me for his disability and complex needs show his date of birth so she refused to serve me the alcohol free lager! I asked to speak with the manager who quite obviously didn’t want people like my son in his pub and also insisted I needed ID for alcohol free lager! If you know ANYONE with learning disabilities avoid this pub at all costs they clearly are intolerant verging on hate crime criteria! I shall never visit this pub or any of the green king pubs as this must be their company policy. Sadly the intolerance of those who are challenged every day of their lives continues

Not the best place to stay. Rooms dated and beat up. The room we stayed in had a very small double bed, broken toilet seat, missing bit on the shower tap, so hard to turn it off. Bathroom door would not shut properly, no room for bedside tables, table in the room was really small, nowhere to put things, open wardrobe was not a wardrobe and not wide enough to hang clothes, no draws to put clothes in, shower tray with curtain just let water flood the floor. The view from window was horrible.

What a wonderful place to stay, Staff were all amazing could'nt do enough for us. The food was really great breakfast and evening meals. The out side garden is amazing, you sit by the river. This pub was recommended to us by one of the staff in the boat cruise nearby. Very lovely location - beside the river, where children were feeding ducks and swans. We dined outside since the weather was lovely. Ordering and paying was easy - using the Greene King app on your phone. Each one of us ordered individually through the app, and did not have to worry about splitting the bill. We had the Sunday roast and I had the best lamb shank I ever tasted! Desserts are lovely as well. It was a bank holiday and it was busy. So, despite telling the server about it, one of us waited for their pudding for almost an hour but did not receive it so we just left.

Visited last month as a family and liked it so much we returned for another night this month. We found the rooms had been repainted and changed made to curtains etc. Food and service was amazing, I recommend the peach tarte.

There seems little point in writing a review as the restaurant is closing today, for ever! So sad but the team are retiring or moving on to other projects and the building has been sold. I have visited this place many times over the years and always had a fabulous experience. I had my wedding reception here so it also provides many good memories of that day. Sad that it's now gone!

Very sad to see this much loved restaurant close. This final visit did not disappoint - the food was exceptional (for anyone that did not get to experience the Aylesbury Duckling you really missed out on a treat!) and the staff were very attentive. The whole fine dining experience at The Kings Head was to their usual high standard. The impending closure is a real loss as there is no equivalent in the surrounding area that matches quality with affordability. After 40 years of patronage it feels like the end of another era. I would just like to say thank you to the staff for all their service, particularly George de maison who epitomised the role of front-of-house. I wish them all well for the future.

I know the King's Head is closing soon, and unfortunately it seemed to show during our lunch experience. Although the food itself (the duck main) was excellent, the serving staff seemed miserable, the wine was forgotten by the restaurant manager (we had to remind him that we had ordered some, which eventually came halfway through our starters), and our desert, tarte tartin, sat in front of us for at least 10 minutes before someone remembered to come and flambee it. We also kept having to ask for water, it wasn't routinely topped up. So it's not somewhere I'd recommend to be honest, not at the prices charged.

We have been going to the King's Head for 40 years and particularly on important family occasions. Our children love it, as now do our grandchildren. Food, setting and warm welcome make it feel like "coming home". Devastated that it is closing very soon and thank Georges, Annie , Jonathan and staff past and present for helping us create so many happy memories and for giving us so many memorable lunches and evenings.
