The Village Chippy in North Norfolk

Worst fish I have ever eaten The batter tasted dreadful it was not cooked enough. Inside still raw batter. The fish was bland and watery had no taste at all. Defo was not cod. Waited ages, my fish was cooked 20mins before it was served to me and was just warm. Need another member of staff to serve. Most of the food ready and cooked just sitting in warming area until this one chap was able to serve.

Fish was pretty poor quality...watery and tasteless. Chips were ok.....won't be using again.... for the price they were very underwhelming. Expected them to be better as by the seaside...

I've just had a cod special here, you get a lovely size piece of cod, chips and mushy peas or curry sauce for £6.60/70 I think it was. It was the most delicious piece of fish I've had for a long time, the batter was light and crispy, the fish skinless and so tasty, the chips were delicious too, curry sauce great too. Everything piping hot and presented in a box so easy to eat in the car. The service was fast and very friendly people. I'll be back for more. 😊

Ordered Fish and chips. All cooked fresh. Unfortunately the battery was not cooked sll the way through and was raw on inside. Did arrive 30 minutes before closing and they were busy so that may have not helped. Its the first time in Mundesley and would try again.

The staff were friendly, and there was lovely commarardy between the staff. Amazingly they also provided Gluten Free fish and chips, understandably there was a wait, as they cooked it from fresh, and it was worth waiting for.

Freshly cooked fish & chips served in a really good box (easy to carry & didn’t collapse) We both had the special meal deal under £7 per head. The wait was longer than expected (about 15/20 mins outside but on a sunny evening this wasn’t a problem, would have been different if raining!) The fish was cooked in a lovely crispy batter & good chips. Don’t understand the negative reviews as our experience was good, all I can think is different staff or a change of cooking method.

Really such a shame, great looking chippy but run by inexperienced youngsters. Waited ages even though we deliberately picked easy options. Battered sausage and a pie and chips. Got an ear full of the server screaming a food ready number in my ear hole and, chips were really greasy, pie had next to no meat in, sausage wasn't fresh and tasted like it had sat there all day and the sausage meat looked a bit wrong. Families in tears waiting for late food.

We were impressed with our experience here, although the shop is very small the service was fast, food was delicious and the prices were very reasonable!! The staff were very friendly and helpful.

After trying to call for 40 minutes with no answer, Turned up waited 10 to be served with no one in front of me, then ask how long two battered sausage & chips would be? The 2 lady’s were very rude in their answer and would not to give me a time also said they don’t answer the phone because it’s the summer holidays, in that case they should not have a phone number on their websites to call or simply put a message to say that they would not answer calls, would never return because of the way I was spoken to

Freshly cooked large Cod with large chips and curry sauce. Friendly efficient and polite service. Fish served in a separate box to the chips, which I like. Fish was well drained and had nice crispy batter. Chips were from new potato's, which aren't generally my favourite, but these were actually very nicely cooked with a good mixture of chunky and smaller crispy chips. Curry sauce was similar to Katsu in flavour, and a good consistency. Overall, very good. Nothing was wasted!

Amazing. The chicken and mushroom pie was cooked perfectly, the fish and chips were amazing. Walked away full and satisfied. Would gladly come again and recommend it to anyone.

Really popular and probably the best local chippy in town. Only downside was that there were no vegetarian options other than chips or a pickled egg 😆.

The wait was 1 hour, we ordered at 18:30. Outside tables to wait so no real issue. Buildings either side fenced off & under construction. When ready we went to the nearby park overlooking the sea. The chips were greasy / oily with an unpleasant aftertaste and left your mouth coated. The potatoes were mottled. The batter on the fish and battered sausage was compact and oily. Like biting into an oil slick. Any other time you would appreciate such a large chip portion. Really not good ! Only positive was the boxes the food came in.

Only giving one star because there isn’t a lower option. They advertise on the wall that they serve vegetarian sausage, burgers and pies so we went in and ordered vegetarian sausage and chips only to be told that the chips are cooked in beef dripping so all I could have was sausage. What is the point in advertising vegetarian food if you can’t have chips. Luckily there is a lovely chippy attached to the pub further down the road that have much better options

Absolutely the worst chip shop I've ever been to. They take your money. Don't tell you how long the wait. Mine was 45 minutes!! God knows what they were doing. When it finally came it was inedible. Chips were chewy and covered in grease the batter was like nothing on earth. Chewy, greasy and inedible. The fish inside was so tiny and again really chewy. I was charged £20 for cod and chips twice. I may as well have thrown my money away. I have no idea how they have kept this business running.

Would not go to this chip shop again was told about 5 in front of us will be about 20 minutes well 55 minutes later they shouted our number They take your order and money and give you a number what a way to operate make sure your not hungry The fish was ok batter bit too hard and chips all bitty We are visitors on holiday and would never go there again or anywhere else with this system

Always a friendly atmosphere whilst you wait for freshly cooked food at good prices, the best chippy in the village.

Pretty poor quality, the battered sausage was reheated and stale. Chips were only average. I won’t be visiting here again.

Had food from here 1 night of our holiday. Seemed quite popular, does take card but it wasn't working when we went there. Good choice of food, reasonable prices and friendly staff. Our food was ok, chips could be better, battered sausage was a bit iffy, tasted odd, good cheeseburger.

We love The Village Chippy - we visit every time we come to Norfolk. We buy fish and chips and sit on the beach with dogs. It’s like a family ritual. We have never been disappointed all the times we have been here and this time was no different. Great food, great price and great staff.

Absolutely disgraceful actually cannot believe it got cod and chips twice chips where nice and in the past was decent gone down completely but there literally was zero fish just batter I pretty much paid £19 pound for some chips crazy clown world we live in now the fact you have the audacity to give me just batter with zero fish WTF scam

Despite the popularity of this place with Queuing outside my wife and I found this not such a great experience food wise. The chips looked as if we had purchased ealier made ones and had no crispiness to them at all with the fish very greasy. We actually received two small pieces of fish rather than the large cod on offer which was odd. We have had much worse but this did not cut it for us.

Good customer service and great fish and chips, good quantity, good fish and good overall quality at a reasonable cost.

My daughter had a 1/2 chicken and chips plus my granddaughter had nuggets and chips my wife had small fish and chips and i had a large fish and chips. Got worried right at the start when the chicken was taken out of the freezer and placed in the microwave. Had to wait a while but had expected it as was the same the year before when we stayed here. When we arrived home and sorted out meals my granddaughter only had 5 nuggets instead of 6 as advertised. The chicken was so dry you had to have a drink to be able to swallow it and my portion of chips which was a large portion was no bigger than my wife's portion.

Really nice food but alas long queues which I guess is going to happen if you're good. We had a regular piece of fish each and a portion of chips between us which was more than enough, also the good old chippie curry sauce to add a bit more flavour, very nice 🙂

Giving up with this place after the last two visits have been terrible. Smaller than ever portions and prices going up more and more. Sausage and chips barely enough to feed a small child for £4.60! Ridiculous. I'm a local so have always supported this place and feel very short changed when still hungry afterwards!

Took our fish and chips to eat on the sea front - very tasty chips but fish just average. Very busy and a fair wait to get our order, but at least it meant it was fresh. Would use again as these were by far the best chips we had during our stay.

Fish was mushy which I believe was frozen before cooking not fresh.also chips fatty.. One customer lost here. Never again 24.00 in the bin.. A seaside chippy and not fresh for top money should be shut down.

I wish I could rate the food, but having arrived well before closing. I was gob smacked to find four headless chickens on the verge of a meltdown. It was ten minutes later that a customer asked me if I was next. I said I was waiting to be acknowledged. Only to be told that they had stopped taking orders. Fifteen minutes wasted and left without speaking a word to a member of staff. Good job they didn't because a few choice words were on the tip of my tongue.

You’d think if you pre-order at 5.15 for 6pm collection you wouldn’t then have to wait 28 minutes for your food to be ready. The owner was incredibly rude when I was simply trying to ascertain what the delay was. Seems it takes and hour and 15 minutes to cook a simple sausage. The food was very average.

We visited this chip shop the last time we came to Norfolk and so we promised ourselves that we would return on our first night. Drove from our little cottage to the village, parked car up and got our dinner in the village chippy. We order a cod and chips and a haddock and chips - as always it is cooked to order so I agree with the review that says it is common sense you will have to wait - and it is most definitively worth waiting for! I would rather wait for a cooked to order fish and chips any day of the week rather than having fish which has been under the heater for quite some time. As I entered the shop the staff were very friendly and chatty and the first conversation was the female behind the counter asking me how I do my hair because she loved it so much. Time waiting for my order flew by as we were all chatting in the shop. We ended our evening with a walk across the beach. We would highly recommend this chip shop, if your in the area and fancy some chippy tea this is the place to go!

Good chips, but discovered on a second visit that they were cooked in beef dripping. As a vegetarian we won't be going back unless this were to change.

Soggy batter, cod yellow and tasteless, chips not as nice as we have had on previous occasions.

This was my favourite chippy now my worst, my cod wasn't fresh and tasty the batty was soggy couldn't eat it, the chips weren't great either. Very disappointing

Been in for fish and chips absolutely delicious and first time trying the BBQ chicken which was absolutely scrumptious , service first class really friendly staff who went above and beyond we will be back ty so much guys

Fish dry over cooked way below the standard expected and didn't seem that fresh batter thick could well have been a fry up not there normal standard.

As a regular customer, I was very disappointed today. Checked they were open it said close at 2pm. I arrived at 1.26pm only to be told he had just taken last orders. I was not happy

Staying at Mundesley Holiday Village, we ordered Haddock and Chips by phone and collected 15 minutes later. Excellent quality food, very generous portions and extremely good value for money. Superb Customer Service. Highly recommended.

Freshly cooked, huge portion! We were staying down the road at Trimmingham, as it was a Monday out of season many places appear to be closed. This little place cooked the food fresh to order so a little wait. My large cod and chips was really two pieces! Lovely fish, crispy batter. Chips soft and delicious just how I like them. Worth noting they do cook in beef dripping, so no good for vegetarians or vegan.

Always a great service in here which can't be matched. Mike and the crew are fantastic and the quality of the food is unmatched!! Cooked in beef dripping and a great menu to choose from. Mundesley is always my top choice for a beach destination and The Village Chippy is always my top choice for food as well.

It was ok but the batter was a bit dry, hard and crisp for our liking. The customer service was excellent and it was very good value for money, I think we just caught it at the end of the day when the oil was a bit hot. We will try again though.
