Stayed at The Lobster in Sheringham and cannot give enough praise for the staff. We were here under difficult circumstances and the team showed us such kindness and compassion we were blown away. We had an evening meal, overnight stay and breakfast which again, was above average. Amazing 😌

Should not have had good expectations from walking in. When ask behind the bar if they had a table free we were told I expect so. We actually found a table and ordered two Sunday roasts. I can honestly say I was not expecting such poor quality frozen produce on my plate. The beef was just sliced meat heated in gravy. I don’t know what was supposed to pass as mash potatoes. It was just a cold hard lump with a strange skin on. As it was cold I spoke to a waitress who said she would change it. The next one was no better. I can see why you have to pay in advance as I am sure a lot of customers would not be happy to pay for such a poor meal. Save your money and visit a restaurant who serve fresh meat and veg. When the Yorkshire puddings tasted frozen. Not the lobster wh used to know.

We visited the lobster on Sunday for dinner and it was rubbish, we have been to the lobster many times over get the last 12 years and this was the worst. The service was appalling, two staff in scruffy hoodies who looked like they couldn’t be bothered, we were sat down and left, they didn’t think to explain we had to order at the bar because they didn’t have anything to take our order on. The food arrived (we both had pie) and it was dry and hardly any meat in, the mash was tasteless and hard too. £30 for a cheap bottle of red wine is a P take. Safe to say after all these years we’ve had our last visit to the lobster.

Tastefully decorated clean bedroom , quiet at night despite overlooking the road . Surprising that no towel rail in the otherwise ample sized bathroom . What to do with damp towels ? The biscuits on my tray were placed in a glass and immersed in an inch of water . £25 dog tax was outrageous on top of an over priced room. The dog didn’t even receive a breakfast sausage. Logging in to the WiFi and you are asked for; name , date of birth , gender, address and email . Why is this and what are you going to do with my data? Dinner was the biggest disappointment. The pie was more air than meat and the accompanying mash was of the instant variety- a very unpleasant texture. Stingy portion of vegetables and again a very odd texture. For a self proclaimed pie champion this is quite sad. The crumble could potentially have been homemade but the fruit was , I suspect , from a can . The grubby looking table menus should have set off the alarm bells. Penny pinching never ends well , customers don’t like it. Staff very friendly but could benefit from introduction of a uniform to smarten them up . Breakfast sausage was anaemic and flavourless. Bacon rasher so small i needed my glasses to find it on the plate. Milk would have been a useful accompaniment to my cereal. Out of the six hotels on my nine night itinerary , this was the most expensive and the most disappointing. No, I would not stay or eat here again.

We were looking for a bit of last minute lunch in Sheringham. We’re not too familiar with the town and stumbled across The Lobster Inn, which I deeply regret. The fact it was empty on a Sunday afternoon says it all really, but we were all starving and losing the will. On both the menu and online they offer Sunday roasts with unlimited Yorkshire puddings and gravy. When we asked about this the waitress looked confused and said they don’t have any roasts. Regrettably I went for the closest option which was the lamb shank and “buttery chive mash”. Vile just doesn’t do it justice. The mash was like a chewy clump of playdough, except playdough would have actually had some taste to it. The portion of lamb was a joke, it was tiny but lethal and ended up giving me food poisoning. Two days later I was still struggling, my mother who had the same dish was also in the same state I was in. The children got a chocolate brownie as part of a kids meal deal. It was the size of a 50 pence coin and came complete with marshmallows and ice cream. They had one mouthful and refused to eat anymore which is categorically the first time my kids have ever turned down anything with chocolate in it. At that point I was too terrified to try any myself as I knew it must be god awful. My partner had the beef rib and said it was inedible. Wasn’t even sure it was actually beef… The worst part is that the bill came to over £150 with no starters or desserts for the adults (thank the lord) so it’s not like you could even say the food was reasonably priced. If ever in Sheringham - SAVE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR BOWELS AND EAT ELSEWHERE. You’d have a better experience at one of the (many) kebab shops.

The staff were friendly and knowledgable, the food was excellent and the Inn had a welcoming atmosphere. We ordered the beef and vension pie and the slow roasted beef rib. I highly recommend both of these dishes. The portion size was excellent and the flavours were excellent. We will be going back soon as there are several other dishes we would like to try.

We ate at The Lobster one Friday evening. We were an adult family of 8, two of which were in their 80s. We sat at an outside table and went to the bar to order drinks. Whilst we were sitting outside, there were 2 children around 6 years old running around, in and out of the tables and screaming. It's not a very courtyard. As I stood up, one of the children kicked my chair, nalmost toppling it over. We politely asked the women with the children if there could calm them down a bit. Which they did. But only for The Manager to cone over a few minutes later and tell us that it was a family pub and we should expect children to be running around and occasionally bumping into furniture. We were staggered. Had that been a waitress carrying hot food, it could have been a lot worse. Or a pensioner falling over because a child had knocked their chair over. He acknowledged that this could happen. While I'm not complaining about the children, I didn't feel there was a need to come and have a word with us either. Bear this in mind, also bear in mind it's a dog friendly pub so expect dogs off lead running around too. Food was nice but we wouldn't eat here again

It was the first time staying at this establishment, we found the location to be it's sole redeeming feature. It's located in the high street just a few yards from the coast line which was excellent for walking to Cromer or Weybourne. While the room's decor was visually appealing some areas needed touching up. There were stains on the bed throw and hair in the shower. The room was very hot and despite keeping the window ajar, the room's temperature remained uncomfortably high. There was a fan in the room which was covered in dust, leaving our hands coated in dust bunnies. Due to the heat we had no choice but to utilize the fan. Unfortunately, our sleep was severely compromised by the stiff firmness of the mattress causing back pain the next morning. The breakfast service was equally underwhelming. Our continental breakfast was not provided and only materialized after we inquired about it while receiving our cooked meal. This left us feeling somewhat let down as the customer service wasn't provided. The cooked meal was average and the scrambled eggs were over cooked, the toast was hard and partly burnt however the poached egg was spot on. Given our experience, we would recommend this accommodation only for it's location.

My wife and I have been eating here for years, it’s our usual port of call whenever we visit Sheringham. The recent refurbishment was probably overdue, but I think that’s the only improvement if our most recent visit is anything to go by. I was surprised how quiet the place was when we walked in, we hadn’t booked, and my expectation was we would have to eat outside, but no there were spare tables inside. Whilst waiting at the bar to be served a person in front of me asked for a Coke, only to be told they only had Diet Coke. Next a family who were staying the night asked if they could open a tab, but were told no, that’s against our policy. We both ordered fish and chips and waited for the food to arrive... The chips were quite nice, but that’s the only good thing I have to say about the meal. My wife’s portion of fish was very small, mine was only a little larger, both were overcooked and tasteless. No member of staff came over to ask us if the food was OK, so my guess is having taken our money they don’t care either way. We ate our meal and rather than order a second drink, decided to leave. Maybe just an off night? Apparently not, reading other’s reviews. What I cannot understand is why would you spend so much money refurbishing an establishment and then ignore what your customer’s are telling you. Wake up! I might give the place one more chance but I’ll check the reviews before I do – suggest you do the same.

This is a Stonegate pub, one of two main pubs taken over in the small town of Sheringham. The Lobster Inn was, up until recently, an average priced pub, and now it is over priced, with a pint just under £7.00 and a large wine around £12.00! How can they justify this rip off, in a small, local town? They do it, because the have a near monopoly with two full-on Stonegate owned pubs, and one leased out; thus fixed prices for two, and a little lower (not much) for The Robin Hood. The only local (locals' pub) is the Wyndham Arms, where their lagers are £5.00, and wine around half this con! Yet, Oliver, he manager and Stonegate CLAIM that they are comparable to other pubs in the area, and that was a false claim to a review on Trip Advisor! He (they) also claim that, quote, ''There are many other wonderful pubs in Sheringham, I hope you find one you like'', as he, sarcastically, replies to another negative review, and as one can see, there is just ONE! This is what happens when a chain (the own 3,500 pubs in the UK) take over a small town, buy up its pubs, out price the locals. It's also interesting to read that the competitor to Google Reviews (Trip Advisor) has been criticised many times for allowing false reviews and review tampering, and when reviews, that are negative, appear on that site for this pub, they mysteriously seem to vanish! Then there are the equally mysterious reviews only praising Stonegate Pubs! This pub is far too expensive, far too touristy, and not at all local, and the answer with lies.

One roast parsnip cut in half and a thin stem of broccoli , 2 thin slices of meat and about 4 roast potatoes is definitely not what u call a roast especially for that price. Yeah you can stock up on unlimited roast potatoes but you wouldn’t have to if you actually have a plate worth the £17 . Didn’t even receive the stuffin , for the price of £17 you can easily fill up 4 plates for a family filled with a lot more on each plate than what I got on mine.

Had coffee here a couple of times over the last week and the staff seemed very friendly, the coffee is very good too. So today we went for a meal. There's no free parking apart from the 45 minute road side, so had to pay for the nearest car park ... not their fault, but it's a little annoying nonetheless. Anyway, ordering the food is also a little annoying as you have to go to the bar to order everything and pay there and then, so we ended up doing two transactions ... It's a little strange to say the least. I had fish and chips - apart from the peas (which was the worst portion of peas I've ever been served, dried and shriveled up ... almost inedible) the fish was really good and of a decent size and I could say the same for the chips. A nice mini-bowl of tartare came along for the ride, no thrills but enjoyed my meal, apart from the peas of course 😤. I certainly would not return for a meal here, mainly because of the lack of table service.

We were put in what seemed to be the drinking area along with 2 families who had bought along dogs which barked continually for about 20 minutes completely ruining the atmosphere of the place. The food was good & the staff were very friendly. So far so good until my wife was charged 11.35 pounds for a large glass of Sauvignon. When questioned, the staff advised the cost was fixed by the brewery. Are you serious? Never again.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Not all items on the menu were available but food we had was great, as were the rooms.

I would like to start off this review by saying my partner and I are not ones to make fuss, yell or be hostile when issues arise. As we know mistakes and mishaps happen. But I do believe that with those issues must come a level of organisation and resolve from the business dealing with their grand mistake. Apart from the very new girl Maya who had to deal with this (only there for two weeks and tried what she could) the business fell short and was shocking. Let me explain. We made a reservation three weeks ago for a night at the Lobster on the Saturday night, 30th March. For a family members' 60th birthday, and we are very much not locals, my first time here in Sheringham actually. We entered the pub shortly after available check in, and made to wait 15 minutes just to be seen, understandable. It was busy. But with glasses staked high and only way of check in handling the bar, it was a messy ordeal. Then a gentleman told us his manager could only be the one to check us in. So we had to sit and wait even longer, again, this was fine for now. Once we are finally seen in this busy space, the manager goes on to quite firmly scold us and say that we made our book for the night before (Friday) and they are fully booked. My partner very calmly showed his email confirmation that had the dates for Saturday as clear as day and that the error was indeed on their end. That's when the headless chicken back and fourth began. We were told to wait whilst they kept trying to get a hold of the booking team, whilst bystanders gazed and looked at us, even another couple giving their sympathies due to the embarrassment and how we were originally treated. Then finally we were told, basically tough, all seven rooms were booked and all they could do was place us in a hotel so horrendously far away as recompense due to everywhere else being booked up and we would still have to pay. We were shocked, we don't drive, I myself am disabled. It had already been so much time past since we had sat down and we were waiting for resolution. As anyone would, we said this wouldn't do. We were then told basically if we found our own hotel, we would pay the amount we originally were meant to pay the Lobster. I found a replacement at Dale's Country House (who will now ALWAYS receive our custom and are magnificent, highly recommend), and got the manager to begrudgingly confirm this was acceptable. They said they would cover our taxi, but bear in mind our purpose for our visit was to be as local as possible, as it was for my partners mothers birthday and she has limited mobility. And no one drives. After many hours we were told a cab would be even longer wait. Two hours minimum. We ended up having to wait outside the premises, as it was clear they didn't want us showing other customers one of the many messes they had made. It was clear we were an eyesore and the owner had told the manager to just get rid of us. We understand the hotel side of the business had only been open two weeks, but the women in charge of our situation was new, the booking team were awol according to her, and the owner was nowhere to be found, she had to privately call them. I truly hope that NO ONE takes on this business for a stay. Apart from Maya trying to fix what they could, It's unorganised, relentless and if we hadn't been lucky enough to be housed by another hotel, we would have been out of a warm place to be last night. And from what we are hearing from locals and others, this is not what the Lobster used to be, and they have proven to have so many more issues since. It's tarnished our trip for an occasion, and I am still not over the embarrassment of being in the middle of a crowded tiny space, being scolded for a mistake they made initially then being told essentially "our bad, but your demise" Shame on the new owner of this business, you're scaring away new custom and already the people of Sheringham that have kept it's reputation already neglect your standing as a hotel.

Went for 2 pints over Easter and cost nearly £12, I don't think so. Shame as was a lovely location and the menu looked appetising.

Customer Service at it's VERY best. Came here for the first time tonight after reservation over the phone. Really busy (Easter Sat), but all staff still helpful & smiling 😃, even gave me a taster of red wine after not being able to make my mind up!!! All food was SO nice (I had Hunters Chicken, Hubby- ? Burger). Spoke to a woman (she was eating with 3 others) who manages a fish restaurant & even she said, The Lobster, was one of the best places to eat but, drinks are quite pricey!! Highly recommended

This was the last pub on our "crawl" of North Walsham and our only disappointment was that we saved the best till last. Wonderful crowd, fantastic music played by a live duo and excellent service from staff who kept us fed and hydrated - BRAVO! 👏 👏 👏
