Had a fantastic meal at the pub restaurant this evening.
Guy the Duty Manager assisted us with the perfect table (we had not booked a reservation) at the window. His service was fantastic...the meal just spot on
Thankyou
we had been recommended this restaurant, so was looking forward to it.
sorry but very disappointed had a toasted turkey sandwich and chips with gravy, the turkey was a piece of very chewy cardboard (couldnt call it meat). the sandwich itself was very dry. when the young lady collected my plate she asked if all was well i said no it was dry she said there was gravy to dip it in. never dipped a sandwich in gravy before. not very helpful, shant be going again

Lovely visit to Costa in Sheringham. Served by Shauna who was fantastic. Very friendly and pleasant and very welcoming. Lovely tea, coffee and cake, thank you.
Sadly food was awful. Took our father in law for his 60th and the food was very poor. Steak pie was like rubber, pizzas smothered in cheese like rubber as cold when served. The sea bass was served with what I can only describe as a potato hockey puck. As a table of ten we had to preorder and they brought the courses out one after the other with no time in between. Luckily it was so bad it was laughable so we had fun. Just was waiting for basil fawlty to walk in.
Unfortunately today this cafe was poor. Lack of staff and food availability hindered the whole experience. Lots of people just turning away due to que and lack of service. Coffee was just about warm. Had a bacon sandwich which came out on white bread and sent back as granary was asked for. 1 slice of overcooked bacon in the sandwich. So poor. Normally this is a place of good nature that I go to 5-6 times a year. Poor today.
Be if a sunny but cold February or a sweltering summer, the hotel is perfect with its modern touches to the olde worlde charms.
The restaurant staff are polite, informed and attentive without the overbearing ‘is everything alright?’ intrusion.
We have had very good meals, but also the occasional hiccup with the food falling a little short. During our last visit the fish pie lacked the essential ingredient of fish and as the waiter noted on clearing the table, that looks ‘crispy’ around the edge as indeed it was.
This wonderful location, and smart restaurant does itself a dis service by serving Cod and chips not on a simple plate but adding a piece of grease proof paper(?) al la fish and chips shop style.
My pet hate is a plate of food served in mini pots with the expectation that one assembles the food themselves. This time was no exception, peas, tartar sauce, chips all came in little pots and the fish on the aforementioned grease paper. I simply don’t understand why such a good restaurant would want to compete with the local chippy or indeed invite comparison.
Put the food on the plate and left the chef and ingredients do the talking.
I was visiting today and was rather disappointed by the judgemental response I received. I was paying for a tea whilst watching my family on the beach playing football. Initially I enjoyed a conversation with the person, paying for my tea. Then on waiting for my tea he said "oh your not one of them are you", I paused and said no I am on my own. He then said oh you know you brought a tea and then sit there with a family. I believe just buying a tea wasn't enough. It was not even full and the tables were empty. It was extremely judgemental and I will not be returning. I appreciate it's business but I felt if I was on my own and this was my only interaction with someone for the day I felt unwelcome.
Hot & Sour Soup (5) was excellent. Decent Sweet & Sour Pork HK (4) and Thai Satay Chicken Skewers (5) were fab. Lovely Prawn Crackers (5). Mushroom chow mein (3) was more steamed than fried, maybe due to time in the container getting it home.
Decided to try one of their set dinners for two and eat in the restaurant on 26th April. They served us our starters but never did get the mains!
We patiently waited approx. 40 minutes after finishing starters before asking why our mains had not arrived, a further 20 minutes then passed of us asking repeatedly, watching multiple takeaways go out the door and being told our mains were on the way before we gave up and realised we were being lied to.
‘Manager’ eventually emerged from the kitchen, was completely unapologetic, admitted our order had been lost between restaurant and kitchen but attempted to blame other members of staff rather than admit he was the failure. Feel sorry for the young girl working there who was trying her hardest but clearly being let down by poor management.
I paid for the starters and drinks which we had consumed before leaving, on reflection not sure why as they deserved zero payment. Even making the payment the manager was extremely awkward demanding cash payment, then handing me a scrap of paper with account number and sort code on before eventually agreeing to use their card machine!
Will never visit again and adding this review to help others not make the same mistake of trying to dine here!
EDIT: Owners response to this review which he seems to have now hidden only reinforces how unapologetic and rude they are here.
Response from the owner:
"What a beautiful novel! With your talent, you definitely achieved a very high score on your university essays. However, there are some areas where you could improve your writing. I recommend you watch a TV program called Makka Pakka. It might inspire you to write an even better novel next time, perhaps you will write a prefect novel story in another food restaurant or takeaway when you visit them!
Again Thank you for your story!”
We called the Scunthorpe Mill for a last minute booking which they were able to help us with, managing an upgrade to the restaurant due to a cancellation. Dogs are allowed in the restaurant which is fantastic. The food was a great variety and excellently cooked. It was such a delight to find a pub/restaurant that doesn’t sell the bog standard food of so many other pubs. Beautiful setting next to the river, great decor and very welcoming. A must visit for any meal of the day.
