The best restaurants in East Hertfordshire East of England

Since ownership change it’s gone down hill. Won’t be going again. Food not as good as it was & it’s lost its class. Ordered a smoked salmon pain I as bagels had finished & got a cheap hot dog roll which wasn’t even toasted to be a panini. Panini rolls are different but was told that’s what they use. I sent it back for something else. Attitude not good from guy who preps food & no apology

My relative stayed in Room 37 for 2 nights on 23/8/2024. The room is not properly prepared. There was no shower gel, no shampoo. The shower cubicle's drain was totally blocked. It's impossible to have a shower. They have to go the nearby relative's room to have a shower! They told me till they checked out! Please make sure the room is well prepared and ready for the guest for future. Thank you.

Hadn't booked so was pleased to get a table and even happier that it had air con (was a hot day). Meal was good and service had been timely. Waitress wasn't the friendliest and had a stern, hard looking face but we didn't think anything of it until we got her attention to ask for the bill. She turned, huffed at us and then went to dart off again before my Husband had been able to finish explaining that we had a discount code to use. My Husband therefore called out "excuse me" to her as we didn't want her to waste her time doing the bill only to then have to re-do it but she came over and blatantly rolled her eyes at us! We couldn't believe how rude she'd been and for what reason?? Needless to say, no tip left and would avoid going back to this branch. I don't know the waitresses name but she had a foreign accent and was wearing bright pink. Shame her personality isn't as bright as her clothing.

We have been frequenting here for approx 2 years until today! I would like to say we come here approx once/twice a monthly! Since the “makeover” it’s gone downhill drastically and we will not be returning. The last few times we have had to encourage salt/vinegar etc to our selections which is basically the same every time. On the last visit after requesting “putting” my own salt/vinegar as i like more than the average person, was nearly the last straw as he advised sit down and ill do it the lad with the mop-style hair cut didn’t bother as was to much hassle and when i asked did you do it sorta mumbled under his breath no i forgot so i pulled him up and he said your mashing up my paper. So todays visit in nutshell “repeatedly” due to last visit as in my opinion food is decent in local area “until” today asked by “mems” to dit down and he understood i wanted to do my own salt/vinegar asked sauces etc/salad. Order was 1x medium lamb donner, 1x chicken shish medium, 1x portion chips at least 4x times i advised i would salt/vingar to my taste, 2x garlic 2x chilli sauce, 2x cokes, 2x salads Got home and had 1x donner, 1x shish, 2x cokes, no sauce/no salad , phoned up and he spoke to “chef mop head” advised on next visit to say speak to “mems” for some advice. No let me ping you a little back as its right thing to do and will “mems” be there who ever he is. Advice is DONT use here down road by coop new kebab shop “saw bridge charcoal grill” Last visit today free advice get rid of chef with no hearing or understanding of customer service i.e mop head guessing family member or shop will diminish . Way back 40 years ago I was a regular Saturday night customer along with my then husband and step-daughter. Jon and his parents ran it and it was excellent. I moved away 19 years ago and came back to try it but the menu was poor and no different to a pub. I have not been back for years. However I returned this week and was not disappointed. My friend had the lamb tagine as she wanted a main meal and I had a jacket potato as I eat a main meal in the evening. Both excellent as was my decaff latte and my friend's G and T. We will return.

Have been here 3 times now and love it every time. Food is great value and size and always good. Drinks are also great, we always get a smoothie. But most of all the family running it are so nice and really friendly.

I purchased 1 x medium cod , 1 portion chicken nuggets and 1 x sausage in batter. Only 1 large chips to share and curry sauce and mushy peas . £29 later ….OMG what a rip off!!

I ordered black coffee and got it with caramel on the bottom. Staff said a must said Carmel on the end that is way came with caramel. Very disappointed with the bagel's taste as well. Not fresh as you expect. Spend £9 for both, what a waste of money!!!!!

My brother hired the cellar bar for his 50th birthday. He brought his own decks to DJ. At 10.55pm the female manager suddenly appeared and smashed her hand across his decks and demanded they were turned down. Bear in mind they paid for the cellar bar to 11pm, and the volume had not changed since 9pm. Suddenly rounds of shots appeared as an apology, but far too late. My brothers birthday was ruined. I’m can’t express how much this utterly ruined his birthday. It entirely changed the vibe. Appalling management. Never seen anything like it. I would add the bar staff were lovely. His help then working for her.

My partner and I visited the restaurant for the first time on New Years Eve, the restaurant is decorated amazingly and the bar staff were very friendly welcoming us. We were showed to our table and after 5 minutes or so our order was taken, within not even 10 minutes our drinks and starters came out. Our starters were amazing and shortly followed our mains, I am vegetarian and when I ordered my main I asked for the dish without chicken, the waitress said she would make sure with the kitchen if that’s ok, she never came back so we assumed it was fine, when my main came out it had chicken in, a different waiter kindly took the food back to the kitchen and a few minutes later it was replaced. The waitress that originally took my order came to see where my food was and I explained it came with chicken she said ‘Oh’ and walked away - that was the first rude encounter. The whole time during our meal there was 4 screaming young children running through the restaurant they knocked into my partner three times and were disturbing the other diners too, the children were family to the waitress and there was a table with a few adults on again family of hers so they were getting her full attention and the rest of us were left waiting, there was many other things that happened during our visit and we were absolutely appalled. The service was shocking but from that one waitress in particular she was so rude to us and the other diners, a group of 8 were sitting next to us and when they tried to ask her a question she simply said ‘HANG ON’ and walked away they all looked shocked. We were never offered more drinks and wasn’t even offered a dessert menu. When we eventually got someone’s attention to ask for the bill we then waited over 20 minutes to receive it. As we were leaving the someone on a different table asked for the dish I had but without mushrooms, the waitress started laughing and said ‘I’m only laughing as someone just ordered it with no chicken’ and started joking about my order very loudly next to us.

I booked afternoon tea here to celebrate my birthday with my family. There were 13 of us in total. I only booked a fortnight before, and had never in fact visited previously. I was pleasantly surprised, we were seated in the conservatory, with lovely views of the grounds. The staff, service, and food were all excellent. We all had a wonderful time. Thank you so much!

lovely food, fast delivery, the ribs are to die for, lovely service would 100% recommend to anyone around bishops stortford!!

Never will order from them again it disgusting a waste of £36.. the beef friend rices tasted funcky and the beef was chewy. The chips had been cooked again and the pancake roll I orderd came as mini spring rolls and beef curry was disgusting and chicken ball was dry n chewy

What a gem of a place!! one of the best carvery and value for money. plenty of food and choices, great service and laid back location. Definitely will be returning with all the family :)

Actually disappointed that you get barred for the most pettiest of reasons that doesn’t warrant 6 months. Now one of our friends from the whole group can not join and we have events and Xmas parties coming up.
